I don't know what I am going to do about this group, I only seem to be able to vist the group about twice a week and then can't catch up on the posts. This makes me feel out of touch, but I really like the group and find it so supportive. For now I will do the best I can.

Dale, Sunday Morning is one of our favorite shows, it is so relaxing.

Grand daughter just got dropped off - have to come back another time.

.Sorry guys...Marija

Dale,

I am just doing a double crochet making my scarf but forgot how to do it and it was starting to look like ocean waves so ripped it out, consulted my stitchery book as to how to do the stitch and now it is flat and loose. I crochet tight too. I have never made a shawl, just small afghans.

I slept through the morning news, now am watching the Karate Kid on AMC. I can't stand all the morning shows with all the cutesy Valentine gifts that they think we can't live without.

Rain and overcast today but not cold at all. Maybe we will have an early Spring. Many of the tree branches are covered with bright green moss and it's kinda pretty.

Have a good day everyone. I have no plans today other than the visiting nurse will be here this afternoon for bloodpressure checks. I'll do my walking up and down the stairs.

Good morning. My scale is still up this week due to self indulgence. Turning down having a meal out last night (the rains were really torrential at times) didn't make much difference because I ate a lot of dark chocolate almond bark. There's none left in the house now.

SAMMI,
Our cold weather will be back in place later today. Right now we're in between as the temps are falling.

BRENDA,
I never use a pattern for my crocheting. That's too hard. I'll just single stitch or double stitch a complete item. That's because all I'm willing to make are shawls. I have a very tight stitch so it's quite warm (like a tight knit actually). My enthusiasm has dwindled over the years so I don't do much of any crocheting anymore. It was a great tool to keep from smoking when I was fresh off of nicotine though.

Enjoy your Thursday,
Dale

Good Morning Sparklers, our cold front is arriving today. I know a lot of people in the Northeast are already feeling the effects of the storm crossing the country.

I remember growing up and wanting to be independent. I was very shy, but never a follower. I try to understand the kids of today who all want to be the same. They have to look like some movie star or like their friends. Whatever clothes are popular even they don't look good on you. Wow, what a different world.

I'll take my crazy generation any time. I wish you all a good day. Be healthy and eat well.

Bonnie,

What are S/I joints? In any case I am glad to see you back here with us. You will be back to your old self in no time. You have been run through the mill and all around the pond so now it is your time.

I am working on a scarf of my own design, just double crochet, in a Hot Red yarn. Am designing as I go so there is no way I can screw up the pattern because there isn't any! LoL

MICHELE

Prayers for your daughter, that she can get over this, and/or get some help. God Bless.

TOPS

Congrats

DG

Prayers that your son will learn to stand on his own, but there is not much more that you can do for him. Prayers also that you find serenity and peace of mind.

Thanks for the good thoughts that my pain is less. Actually, I went to my GP this morning and had him give me steroid injections in my S/I joints. Feels better already, still some soreness on the right side. Going to go to Dr Mike and get an adjustment on Friday, hoping that with the inflammation down, it will go well, and get better.

I really need to get physically and emotionally better so I can get back to the pool and move my body.

When I was at the Dr I ask him for a referral to a counselor. I feel it is time for me to try some therapy again. It has been awhile. The last couple of years have been kind of trying for me, and the last 6 months quite difficult. I am better, but food is still my go to for coping, and I need to work on that. I am going to call tomorrow and see about an appointment. First will have to check with my insurance to see what it will pay, so I can be prepared. hope it is affordable.

BRENDA

Hope your friend can figure out the pattern, that is just maddening.

Glad you slept well

PEG

Glad you are feeling better. Good luck getting your exercise back, be careful not to relapse.

DALE

That weight will come right back off. You really are doing great with your walking.

I slept pretty well last night. I still wake up several times a night, but if I can get back to sleep quickly it helps.

A friend from high school found me on facebook tonight, so we talked for a bit. He is living in Colorado, and was injured in an accident while he was driving truck for a living. Boy, life can just be tough sometimes. He seems in pretty good spirits, and it was nice to talk to him.

Now, I am very tired, so need to get into bed and watch some tv for a bit.

Have a great evening my friends.

God Bless.

Peg,

I am just getting over the cold and there were a few nights that I hardly slept at all. I think it was because I was taking non drowsy cold tablets during the day. I ran out of the regular ones for night time. The non drowsy must have a lot of caffeine. Now I'm hearing about a lot of residents having the same thing I did. I have been staying home away from people just so I wouldn't get anything and it didn't work.

Michele,

I think anxiety/panic attacks are the same thing. Both are scary but I don't know what the difference is other than the words. I hope your daughter feels better soon.

Peg I also welcome you! I hope you are feeing better. COlds take so long to get better as we get older!

DG I also agree with Dale & Brenda. Tough love is really hard. there is no shame in asking for help. I will keep you all in my prayers!

Brenda glad you could sleep well.

Dale, I am like you---exercise no matter what the weather. Good for you! Keep going, girl!!!

Thank you all for the input about my daughter. It seems she is having anxiety attacks. I don'T know if they are the same as panic attacks. She seems better today.

Today (thursday) is my piano lesson/tone chimeday The tone chime group members are all piano teachers with at least 40 years of music experience. I, after a 30 hiatus, have been baack to piano playing for only 3 years. I can not play the tone chimes nearly as well as they do, but it is such a challenge for me. Great brain exercise! LOL!

Thanks all for the warm welcome! I am working hard on weight loss as I had way too much fun starting the week before Thanksgiving and carried on through the New Year. Now I am facing the music and making better (smaller) choices when it comes to calorie intake. I've had a little cold that started Sunday night after work. My exercising has been non-existent this week but I am starting to feel better today.

DG - You and your son are in my prayers. Seems like asking for help is bringing up more than we can imagine emotionally for him. As Mothers, we just want to be helpful and it's hard to see someone you love struggle so. God speed in his healing process.

Brenda - I'm a little jealous of your good night sleep. With this cold it's been tough to sleep all the way through. So glad I'm on the tail end of it!

Good Morning Everyone,

I slept really well last night--never woke up until daylight so I'm feelin' good. Residents were happy to see me when I went down to do a load of laundry and sat and visited while I waited. The card players were there and the watcher's. I took the scarf I made to show them and they mostly agreed it is an odd pattern. I gave the pattern to Faith and she is going to see if she can make it correctly. I almost got it but seems to be a stitch or two off at the turn. Haven't decided if I will finish it off or rip it out and make something else. Now I'm making a hot red scarf and it was off to a rocky start because I forgot how to do the stitch and went ahead anyway and it was not laying flat. Got out the book to find the right way and now it is working.

Dale,

You are so good about your walking. Do you still have the snow and ice? We are having rain now and it will warm up to 50`F by the weekend.

Peg,

I'm glad to see you have joined us. We talk about all sorts of things so come by often. No judging here, just support and friendship.

Dalia,

I hope your son will decide to seek help or he may get very hungry. There is no reason for anyone to go hungry with all the different agencies and churches feeding people. We have a big pantry downstairs and the food bank brings us cases of canned goods every month. We all have a key and can take whatever we need day or night. So there is always something to make a meal with, not always so healthy but it fills the void. Plus the ladies love to bake and share the goodies. This is a small community and we all look out for one another. More like a group home than an apartment building.

So, is weigh in the 31st or the 1st? Someone said today is weigh in but it is only the 30th here in the US.

DAHLIA,
Regardless of why your son has developed his disdain, like you told him, he needs to grow up and accept responsibility for himself. It's probably the best thing that could happen to him. It'll take a bite out of this prejudice he harbors.

Peg, I know there's no shame in it. And when my husband was dying of cancer, and I was making just enough to keep the house going, my sons received free lunches at school. They hated it, but we needed the help. I wasn't ashamed of it, but I think that's the basis of Jeff's reluctance now. He remembers those dark days of dad dying and not enough food. He felt like it was charity and he doesn't want charity. I on the other hand, was so thankful for the help and the food boxes.

Today is red hat lady lunch. It is my intention to cut whatever I order in half, and box the other half up before I start eating. I go out to lunch a lot, and I can't control the carbs or the fat much, except for limiting the quantity and saving it for another meal.

Last night's dining out was bad. With the end of the month weigh in, I've definitely sabotaged myself once again. I don't know how much repair I can make inside 48 hours but I'll try.

PEG,
Glad to know you're with us, and that what you experienced only happened once. It's not from the traffic situation so much as it just gets triggered there. Whatever was going on in your life at that time was way too much responsibility to handle.

I walked around both lakes yesterday! Centennial with the dog and Wilde Lake without him. (I was able to walk a bit faster without him.) The weather was so good, I felt I had to take advantage of it. I'm in a commitment to make 150 minutes of exercise a week as a minimum with my LIFER group. With today also warmer, I can make my quota for this week easily.

Everyone, enjoy your Wednesday,
Dale

Though I'm not a regular I do drop in once in a while. Tonight's posts hit really close to home, especially the ones about panic attacks. I think mine are completely hormonal. I had never had a panic attack but my first one was driving through the tunnel that leads to the ski resorts (I live in Denver). I have driven through that tunnel thousands of times and all of a sudden half way through I felt like I was having a heart attack. I got all sweaty and my heart was racing and I felt like I couldn't breathe. It's a two lane highway with both lanes going in the same direction. I thought I was going to pass out. I really don't know what happened and why it happened then but it was scary. I started singing the Star Spangled Banner out loud to try to calm myself down. I made it out of the tunnel and felt much better after I could once again see daylight. I haven't driven through by myself since but I have ridden through with friends and I have been fine. It was a horrible feeling and I hope it never happens again. My Doc gave me Ativan and I carry it in my purse just in case. I haven't ever taken any but will have it if I need it. These things are no laughing matter. So scary and uncomfortable.

DG,
I feed the homeless every Wednesday in an alley behind St. Elizabeths Church in Denver. Please tell your son not to be embarrassed. We love providing meals for those who need a helping hand. Some are there temporarily some are not. Regardless of what their situation, we treat each person with dignity and grace they deserve as fellow human beings. There is no shame in receiving help if you need it.

Tough love is very hard to do but it is very necessary. I had to go on food stamps and the food bank when my husband had his stroke and he was the breadwinner so all I had was his last paycheck and my little social security check. In the beginning I was very intimidated about using the food card and only went to Safeway to shop because I knew how to use their machine. My friend talked me into going to other stores with her and then I learned how to use the other ones. They are basically all the same and I finally got over feeling intimidated.

So your son needs to just go to the food pantry for what they give him and get his food stamp card and go grocery shopping.. He either does that or starve. It is not a sin to be poor but he does need to get some sort of a job to get rent money.

Don't waste your time worrying about him and his situation. He is the only one who can help him.

Keep going to the gym and work out and you will be rewarded in the long run.

Bonnie, I'm glad to hear that your pain is better today. Sleeping better, in itself, makes a huge difference in the pain level next day. At least I've found it so for me. Thank you for the prayers. It's comforting to me, to know someone is praying for me.

My son and i had a long talk this afternoon. We've come to an understanding and I told him what my expectations are of him from now on. He's stressed but I guess that comes with the territory. That doesn't mean I'm not going to worry about him, but there are safety nets available to those in need, that he has never taken advantage of, because he has a poor opinion of those who use welfare resources. For instance, I told him there is a food cupboard right in his neighborhood. He said he didn't know the phone number. I said I found it so he could find it. And while he had told me he only had to have a social worker call him for him to be eligible for food stamps (he was embarrassed for his friends to see him use food stamps. I told him to shop somewhere else, and who knows the difference between a credit card and a food card anyhow?) he never followed up on it in the fall although I though he had.

I told him that he was going to have to grow up, and to play his video games AFTER he worked on his dissertation seriously, and not before. Just like he did when he was under my roof. He wasn't used to hearing me say no.

I had to work off the tension in my neck and my shoulders. So I went to the gym and pedalled very hard until the sweat dripped off. I was tired after but much calmer.

I'll see how it goes.

I have never had a real panic attack, just heightened anxiety, and that was bad enough.

Sending prayers for your daughter Michele. Dale and Brenda have spoken from knowledge and experience.

I agree that if she has another one, she should get some professional help, maybe even before. I think that the more you have, the more likely you are to have another one. Good luck to you and her.

My back, leg and knees are not nearly as bad today. A bit sore, but so much better after my treatment and massage. What a relief. I know it was from going up and down the stairs so many times a day. Just avoiding them as much as I can for now.

Was able to sleep really well last night, so will be getting into bed soon to prep for tonight.

God Bless and have a good Weds my friends.

Brenda & Dale thank you for your input

My daughter I think suffers from a lack of self-confidence, & I have done all that you both recommended. I'm glad to hear that they are quite normal.

I just got home from teaching my huband's cousnin in Tokyo. She treats me to a free Starbuck's coffee each week, so it is definitely something to look forward to!

Dale,

My last panic attack on the freeway wasn't from the traffic, it was when my husband had his stroke and was in the hospital. I had been evicted from the house because we were behind on the rent. I had sold all the big furniture and put everything else in storage. I was housesitting for two friends, dogs in one house, cats in the other. It was only supposed to be for a couple weeks and it kept extending and I had no control of anything. In the meantime I had a place to live and wanted to move to town and I couldn't leave the animals alone. I was running on about three hours of sleep plus back and forth to the hospital. I ended up at the clinic and the Dr told me to stop housesitting and move to my own place. So I called the friends and said I was leaving and they found a neighbor girl to stay with the animals. The next day I moved into my own place and haven't had a problem since. That's it in a nutshell.

You are so wise!

Michele,

I hope your daughter gets this all sorted out. Tell her if she does feel an attack coming on to sit down and relax and take deep breaths. That's what I was told to do and it does help to breathe.

Michelle,
Panic attacks can become a pattern of coping, or rather the lack thereof. With many people, therapy is often very useful because they get to learn how to recognize what creates their first signs of panicking, and the coping tools to help calm themselves down. Medicines are definitely useful in the short run, but talk therapy can make the difference in diminishing their frequencies. Learning what creates that kind of response really helps. And like one person I know who will occasionally use meds, she has learned so much about herself that her attacks are very rare now.

I didn't experience any of my own until a couple of years ago, and it was during long drives where I felt I couldn't handle navigating the road. Like Brenda, life may have presented her with an exception or two that caused her to panic, but having it happen in traffic is a common place to 'fall apart'. As far as what you can do specifically, be very understanding, encouraging and soothing. She doubts her ability to handle her life's stresses, and your showing faith in her ability to learn otherwise is always met with temporary relief. When someone calls me because of a panic attack my primary purpose is to sooth them.

Good morning. I had a rough time getting to sleep last night and probably lay in bed awake until 2:30 or 3a.m. Our weather hadn't permitted me to take a walk and other than that I have absolutely no idea why I didn't naturally fall asleep. Of course the pets leaning in on me to either side never helps.

The scale isn't so good sitting at 161. I need to be 159 for the end of this month for the Lose 13 in 2013 challenge, and I'm not near that again. I touch it but I don't hold it there! Sigh. It seems I like my food choices more than my desire to be trim. And just now I got a call to have lunch with a friend. I picked the coffee shop where I can get a modest sandwich (over a full restaurant where the calories are uncontrolled. You'd think that this type of choice would eventually make a difference for me but it at best keeps me from getting fatter...)

Yesterday my son drove a big U-Haul to Baltimore with his shop all loaded in it. They unloaded at the new garage he's renting and then drove right back up to Brooklyn. It was a grueling 36 hours of work. Now he has to pack up the apartment and get it down here into storage. That's another huge undertaking yet the end of the month is so very near, it boggles my mind. Ya think his world impresses my peace of mind?

Last night Scott and I went to a 6 year anniversary celebration of one of my sponsees in nicotine anonymous. She has been a shining example of working her program and paying it forward with service to the fellowship. She spoke beautifully. NicA couldn't exist without people like her who make commitments to serve the fellowship in volunteer roles. I know I certainly have.

Okay, the first cup of coffee has gotten cold. Time to get to the pot and pour a second. Enjoy your Tuesday!

Michele,

Panic attacks are quite common. I have had them a few times and they are scary. First of all, have her breathe into a brown lunch bag when she is gasping for breath until she can breathe normally.. Then she needs to go to the Dr or ER to get a valium or some other drug to help calm her down. A person thinks they are having a heart attack because your heart is pounding.. I've had them on the freeway a couple times

Bonnie,

Good to hear you are feeling good from your adjustments and massage. Now you can say 'it hurts so good' after the initial shock of the treatments.

As the day has progressed my cold is lifting. My head is clearing up and I haven't sneezed all afternoon so I am on the mend. I missed our monthly council meeting after lunch but will get the results probably tomorrow when Jill can get them finished and Janice will put them on our doors. Maybe the good smells from the chicken in the slow cooker sent my cold packing. LoL I put a lot of onions and garlic in the broth. I took the chicken legs out so now have to do the actual soup ingredients. I put celery in the broth too so I have to take all that out and will puree it and put it back in. I can use my new red immersion blender. Way cool!

Prayers.

Sending good wishes to all of you.

Had my adjustment and massage today. For the most part, I am much better. Dr Mike adjustment my knees, which I have never had done before. Hurt like hell on the right knee, but feels better for sure.

Then Laurel worked very hard on my right side from pelvis/hip area, groin area, all the way to the knee and below. That hurt a lot too. Deep tissue massage can be painful when your muscles are messed up because of what you have been doing, or not doing etc.

I am better tonight, so that is a relief. I have scheduled a couple of appointments closer together to see if that can help, and she gave me some exercises. I am swinging my right thigh out, which is causing trouble everywhere. Going to try to change that habit.

God bless my friends, and thanks for being here to add some normalcy to my life.

Have a good week.

Michele,

If I ever get this scarf finished it will be a miracle. I just had to rip out one whole side because I missed one stitch and it was puckering where it goes around the end. One stitch can wreck a whole pattern.

The rain has arrived finally. I can see the water splashing when the cars go by on the road behind out building.

My chicken soup is starting to smell pretty good. What I thought was a hind quarter turned out to be three huge legs. I got them from the food bank frozen a couple months ago so nothing is labeled.

Have a good day.

Brenda Tokyo time is at least 1/2 day ahead of your time WIsh I could buy one of your scarves!

Dale, biking the way one does here in Japan is a way of life. I too would have thought it was dangerous something I couldn'T do back when I lived in Mch. Now I have no choice. I was very spoiled living the way I did in the U.S. I had too much, depended too much on a car, central heating etc. I have learned to appreciate the smaller things livng her the way I do. I am not criticizing anyone's way of life in the U.S. I am speaking for myself only.

DG I agree with what everyone has been saying about your son. You obviously can't help him being so far away. Crying isn't doing you any good, either. We have all done menial jobs before, & there is no shame in that! Someone has to do them! What is more important is how hard we work at whatever we do in life! I would have no problem not giving my kids anymore money. I would just stop. I am no longer for their choices in their lives. I didn't raise them to makebad choices. I am not responsible for them in that way. It does hurt to watch our kids make bad choices, however.

I have a busy day teaching English. I got my 5 a.m. walk in.

Success! I lied when I said I would stop trying to make the scarf after the third try. Well, I found out the problem after I read the pattern again. I was using the wrong hook. An F instead of a G and it makes all the difference in the world so I am almost finished with number four try. My friend called and invited me to go to their Valentine's party at the Methodist Church on Feb 9th. It will be soup and bread lunch and a bake sale plus I can rent a table for $10 or 10% of sales and put out my crocheted items and see if I sell any. So weather permitting I am going and taking along two friends. The money they take in will go to their Rebecca Lodge, whatever that is. Something affiliated with the church, maybe like the Rainbow Girls? So I am going to get busy and make more scarfs to sell along with my doll dress potholders and dishcloths. I have a huge stash of them made.

Dale, you are right that this crud I have is trying to turn into a cold but I don't feel any worse or better than yesterday other than a scratchy throat and leaky nose. I took non drousy cold tablets every four hours yesterday and about all they did was keep me awake most of the night. Probably have caffeine in them. LoL I'm going to put on a pot of chicken soup. There is a chicken hind quarter in the freezer that needs to be cooked.

DG,

I agree with what Dale said. Your son doesn't need to go to work as long as you are going to keep sending him rent money. I would have no problem not sending the money. We have all worked at menial jobs at one time or another in our lives just to exist.

Maci,

Yep, the self feeder is the culprit as to why your dog has gained so much weight. They will just keep eating as long as there is food in the bowl.

Michele,

So what you are saying about the time difference is basically your time is almost a whole day ahead of us here on the West Coast. Did you get your heater fixed? I just use those tiny ceramic heaters and they work really good. We have baseboard heat here and I hate it. Haven't turned it on once.

Monday morning is gone already and I'm just on my second cup of coffee. The sidewalks are a bit icy so I think I'll offer to walk my mother's dog for her tonight! She'll have to wait for me in case I have a meeting in Baltimore I will attend. The forecast should be fine for the roads but I want to double check.

Maci,
A self feeder explains it all. Without controlled amounts of food in place your dog doesn't know any better. But you ought to. I'll say no more.

Michelle,
There are times when your needing to get around by bike just sounds so dangerous. At least for me, riding in some of the conditions you must endure would put me in jeopardy. My hat is off to you on your endurance and fortitude. I guess if I lived in a place where that was just the way it is, I'd hang in there, too. I'm sure I'm spoiled.

Brenda,
It does sound like a cold is climbing on. It happened to me. Let's hope that yours leaves as quickly as it appeared. Making that pie without crust, you sound like my mother. She was talking about doing a pumpkin custard to avoid the crust. This year she hadn't gotten around to making a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.

Bonnie,
Being spacey sounds like par for the course just about now. Just so long as you're very gentle with yourself you'll be just fine. Consider yourself hugged.

DaliaGrower,
I'm going to add something about sons and mothers who enable them. (In our case it is my own mother who has enabled my son.) How old is your son? When you tell him that this was the last month you were paying his rent and have put your foot down, he'll have to honor that boundary IF YOU DO. Good luck with that. I know that making yourself sick crying is doing neither of you any good. I find that the support in groups such as Alanon help anyone who has a codependent relationship that is unhealthy. They definitely help to untangle what your business is versus your loved one's business.

Fiona and Michelle have their different time zones from us, but EACH DAY, still I say, ENJOY!

Hello everyone.
Again, I have neglected to see how everyone has been doing for so long that it would take me forever to catch up. So I"ll only say that i have missed reading your posts, and will try to be better at it from now on.

Maci, the no eating after 8 PM is a good rule. I was trying to find something small but concrete to focus on this week, and that will be it for me. I thought knitting those frilly scarves out of Sashay yarns, would keep me from snacking at night, but that has not been the case. now i will concentrate on limiting anything but water after 8. If i do that for a while, I may even lower that to 7:30.

Have had some setbacks lately. Gained 4 pounds back over Christmas and they have been harder to lose this time around. I had reset my ticker to 0 on new year's but maybe i should have left the old one running so that it would look better than 2 pounds. At least i have moved off zero like it was the first week or two.

I had lost of tests after noticing spotting on new years'. Had biopsies, and two kinds of ultrasounds; one was very invasive and painful, but now the doctor said let's jhust watch for a while. And if I see anything else, she'd do a D&C. Something else to worry about.

My son in north carolina is lost and depressed and cannot finish revising his dissertation even after it was finished more than a year ago and all he had to do was edit some parts. He asks for rent money all the time. I told him to stop playng video games (he is world known as a speed player whatever that is) and get a job. He said in a grocery store? Like that was beneath him with all his education. We've all had jobs that put food on the table. When my husband was dying of cancer 14 years ago, I washed dishes in a lab, before working my way up the ladder. I was in my 40's and almost as educated as he, but it wasn't beneath me. We had to eat. We needed not ot lose our house. I've cried and cried. And i can't do anything from 650 miles away.

Ok ! I messed up instead of losing 10 more lbs I put on 10. I admit I have been pretty lax in watching what I eat But now I have to get serious . My jeans are almost too tight and my husband has found a new interest in buying me lingerie! So my rear needs to get in gear and get back on track to where I was a few months ago. emoticon

Brenda, I think that you are 3 hours behind Detroit time, if I am correct? Tokyo time is 14 hours ahead of Detroit time when off of Daylights savings, 13 hours ahead when on it. I have learned to memorize this schedule since I have had to call my parents in Detroit so often!

Bonnie, I hope you are feeling better! My emotions were also crazy after Tad's mom died on christmas eve day back in'09, I only can remember driving back in the funeral car from the hosp to her house (one is laid out in a house here) & the rest was blank. How was your massage with laurel?

Maci, I still say I couldn't keep that many cookies in the house---I would know where I had hid them & go looking for them! How wonnderful that you found a headboard for B! Other people's junk can be our treasures, can't they!

Itis supposedly 40 out today, but the wind is soooooo cold! that itmust be closer to 32! And my house is cold too. no central heat. for us over here. Can't wait for Spring!

Read the posts, but am still tired, and fighting a sinus headache. This weather damp and cold is about to make my head crazy.

Now we are supposed to have freezing rain tonight, 40 degree temps tomorrow, and 60, by Tuesday.

Looking forward to the warmer temps, just hoping my sinuses do better.

Finding myself very distracted, kind of spacey if that makes sense to anyone. It is so unbelievable how your emotions, not enough sleep, and stress can really affect you physically, mentally and emotionally all at once.

Hard to explain, but know that we have all been where I am right now.

I forgot who thought Laurel was a place, but Laurel is the name of my friend and massage therapist. Got a laugh out of that.

She had to cancel my appointment on Friday because she had to have a new furnace installed. So, she is going to to my massage tomorrow at 1:00pm. I will go to Dr Mike for an adjustment before going to her, and they will both work on my sinuses. I am sure I am over the actual sinus infection, but still so much drainage.

I guess this post is kind of showing you all how I am feeling, not following the action very well.

Going to just say goodnight now. Seems as though I am sleeping pretty well about every other night, so tonight should be my good night's sleep, fingers crossed.

God Bless my friends. I miss you all, but am just not back into fighting form yet.

Hi ladies, it's already been a fun filled day. Hubs and I overslept. (it's been forever since that happened) mom called at 9am, good thing because 2 of our couple friends went to church because we invited them to join us, at 9am. opps. We were there by 9:20. Talk about jumping up and moving fast. After church we all went to bkfst. fun!

Than hubs and I were driving down the street yesterday and in the rain we saw the cutest bedframe headboard by the side of the road, white wood, darling, we picked it up, cleaned it up and took it to my DD;s new home for our gdaughter Brianna, we set it up as a surprise. Than stopped off at one of our other couples friends home and visited, so much fun, we ended up talking about taking another cruise with them, we did a mexican riviara cruise with them for our 19th anniv, it was their 25th. We share the same anniv date. This yr we are celebrating our 26th.

*Teddybear- We have always had a self feeder, it has never been a problem, we changed his food to be healthier about 6 mos ago. and I guess he 'really' likes it, we might need to rethink the self feeding method??? (ya think?) teehee. There are some who dress up their dogs here in cute lil clothes but it's preety rare. Most people keep their dogs at home here. A friend of ours actually does bows, toenail polish, and she has more clothes than her baby does, what's funny is her dog is one of those really ugly hairless lil dogs. It is full of worts, crooked teeth, etc. It was even in her wedding. And their vows included "lilly". She takes her everywhere.

*BJ- The rule of only F&Vs after 8 is genious! I came up w/it when I stumbled on a 'no eating after 8pm' challenge. I saw so many stuggles so i thought "humm how can I make this doable?, if I forget to eat, if I stay up late, if I am pms'ing, if others are eating around me, if i feel an insatiable need to snack etc...., I came up with only F&Vs believe me they are not my downfall, I usually never have any but nights like last night they were my savior. I believe this is the single most important commitment I make, it's stops a binge from starting, midrange at times, and I always get to start everymorning as a success, even if it was only from 8pm on. Try it, I swear it works.

*Tops- Excellent peptalk! Do you prefer Tops or Leslie? I so celebrate my small success's everyday when I do my jems. (journal, exercise, meals and success's)
*Dale- Waking up to 90 minutes sounds like a great way to start a sunday. How fun to have movie night w/Scott, hubs and I do it all the time, I love it. Don't forget to fasten that seatbelt!

*Brenda- I went and looked up the cals per cookie 75! That made me hide them as you suggested, Hopefully they will be all sold and gone by the wkend. Brianna comes on Weds and I will get her on it. Great idea to be proactive w/your health, I never think that far ahead.
*Mich- Idea: Invite the couple over special for dinner, fix his favorite. It's a subtle form of bribe! teehee. Sugar/Cocaine interesting! Never had a big cocaine problem but oh can I relate w/cupcakes. I always say it's the Cs that get me in trouble everytime, Cakes, cookies, chocolate, chips, ice Cream, Candy doesn't cocaine start w/C too? Coinsidence????

Most of you maybe over sunday by now, it's only 5:23 pm, and I am full from a whole bowl of salad for late lunch, so my plan is to just eat abit of roast when I feed hubs. I will be done and ready to relax by 8pm. Life is good, we just have to slow down and enjoy it! My turn!

Michele,

I have sugar here but seldom use it. I bought a bag of Stevia my last shopping trip but haven't used ant yet. It can be used for baking, cup for cup so am thinking about making an apple pie or maybe just the filling. Stevia is a natural sweetener.

My head is getting plugged up and I keep sneezing and blowing my nose. The non-drowsy cold tablet isn't working very well so far. I have been staying away from people so I don't catch anything. Washing my hands all the time and using paper towels. I don't feel sick or anything so I hope this doesn't develop into anything worse.

I hope everyone stays well.

Brenda I like your determination about your scarf! i am like that too about things---my piano, tone chimes, exercise... I agree with the crochet---I cross stitch a lot & I forget to eat when I do. But I must keep clean fingers, & that keeps me out of trouble.

I also DO NOT keep sugar in my house! I was told by a Dr. that sugar has the same effects as cocaine on the brain--it's very additive & makes one overall feel awful. I went cold turkey on sugar at the beg. of this year. I feel betternow, b ut it has taken the better part of this month!

We are having heavy snow flurries right now. Everything is sticking. Tomorrow will be rather slippery, I think outside, so I may have to forgo my walk & do a Richard Simmons workout tape.

have a good Monday all

Leslie,

You are doing great! Keep it up. The scale WILL go down by making healthy choices.

Last night I ripped out the scarf again and started over. This is the fourth time. I will not give this up as I am determined to conquer this scarf. When I crochet I tend not to eat much and that is not good either. Luckily I don't have any frozen yogurt or ice cream because that is what I wanted. Instead I ate the last bit of mashed potatoes and three beef hot dogs (no buns) with mustard. That was dinner. Not very healthy but it filled the void. You can't snack while crocheting because fingers must stay clean. I drink water instead.

Maci,

It's no wonder you felt bloated after eating a half a box of cookies. You need to purge the sugar because it makes you crave more. I am wondering how many calories and sugar are in one cookie. That's what keeps me from eating junk food--reading ingredient labels. Get the cookies out of the kitchen and hide them in a closet or at someone else's house.

Bonnie,

I'm glad you went out with your friends and are coming back to us. Remember the happy times and take deep breaths. You gave your all and now it is time for you to take care of yourself. emoticon

The big rain storm passed over us so today will just be cloudy and in the 40's.

Michele,

Too bad you didn't get to meet the girlfriend but I'm sure there will be another opportunity. Maybe you could invite her over for tea? Do you still have snow? I don't remember that you would get a lot of snow there.

Sammi,

Sending good wishes and prayers to you and your hubby. I'm glad you are doing your yoga and other exercises and keeping busy.

I've forgotten what else I was going to say so will just say goodbye for now.

Ah, Sunday Morning! What a nice time to wake up and catch 90 minutes of the TV show bearing that same name. Over coffee and breakfast, it's a treat. I learn a lot of interesting things when I watch and it's very relaxing. Love the show.

Yesterday I got a walk in AND got to read some of DOC. It was a relaxing day overall that went by fairly quickly. I ate at home even for dinner last night but am up a pound today. That's because I ate a whole container of Chobi black cherry yogurt. I love the stuff but take in too many calories if I eat the large container. Sprinkling my chopped walnuts on top won't cut the sugar content. Ha! Scott came over to watch one of the two movies that took up my evening. Although I had already seen The Debt (with Helen Miran) I didn't remember a lot of the details and really enjoyed watching it again. That's unusual for me.

It's nice enough again today for me to walk around Wilde Lake. This is good. Letting Oliver stay at home for yesterday's walk was smart I think. I saw big dogs out there but no little ones. Maybe I'll let him come with me today, but I might continue to play it conservatively.

Fiona,
We could use a little of your weather right about now. If only we could customize such a phenomenon. Japan and Washington state could get a little more balanced, too.

Bonnie,
What a good idea to get a washer that has dings somewhere. Very smart move. Those hundreds of dollars are needed in so many places.

Michelle,
I'd like to know what the boots are that stay on the dogs' feet, because here they seem to step out of them when they walk in snow. I haven't tried to buy any for Oliver yet. It's a big enough adjustment that he allows me to put the coat on him. (He'd rather not wear it.) Some of the clothes I have for him may be too small and therefore uncomfortable..

Maci,
I know you adore your pets. So my first reaction was "Oh my." I read the weight difference you said your sweet little dog has gained. Your dog has gotten fat because you are overfeeding her, not because she's 7 years old. Please cut back and measure the amount you serve.

If my little dog gains a half pound I look to see where I have gotten lax. I discovered I had started to allow the measuring cup to be rounded on top. That's all it took! So now I make sure there's not one piece sticking out from the rim. Their health is strictly in our hands. ( I measure a flat topped quarter cup twice a day for Oliver and no snacks. He is a 9.8 to 10 lb dog and the one time he got to 11 pounds I paid attention and cut back. ) They don't get fat because they are older. Don't you want your pet to remain healthy? I'm alarmed for her. What you said she weighs definitely translates to mean she is obese.

My tenant has asked me to take her out to practice driving again. I said only on smaller streets and for parking. She wants to rely on me to get her hours in and I don't want that responsibility. Sigh! Here we go again. I'm trying to find a compromise.

Enjoy your Sunday,
Dale

Home scale up so that means serious work. I did get on Wii yesterday. I will work on making it consistent. I hope everyone is doing well. Congratulations to all the losers and to all the turtles well done it is awesome it wasn’t a gain. To the gainers I know you can turn that into a loss. Look back over the week and tweak up your eating or exercise. I been there and know where I went wrong to make my gain happen. Now the scale says up so to get it to say down I need to make changes. Make the best of the week and let's see those changes. Remember if you gain look for the positive you did this week. Did you exercise awesome. Did you measurements change. Awesome. Did you give up a treat. Awesome. So look for those non scale victories too.

Maci - If you can ignore 30 boxes of cookies you can ignore anything. Good for you. Turn off the light and spark. I'll remember that when it hits me (it did last night but I hit the chips - so mad at myself but today is another day).
Have a great day, All.

I am tired bored and hungry right now, have had a banana and cutie and I just want to munch on something that will fill my tum. I have a commitment I 'always' keep. I only eat F & V's after 8, no matter what. Most the time it's preety easy, tonight is not so easy, prob because I had cookies for lunch today. And there are 30 boxes in my kitchen left to sell. Luckily I am not craving cookies.

Gonna go turn off the kitchen light and make it off limits, that is what i do when the fridge is calling for me. Good night sparklers. This is what i do now instead of munch, I spark, if I can't figure out how to ease my mind i have actually hit the msg boards. Have a grt sunday all!

maci, dogs not only have booties here, they have coats & ribbons in their hair, as well.

Sammi how is your husband today?

Bonnie, II love sears!

tad & I were planning a bbq today to meet my son Ben's new girlfriend. Now, Tad has sent Ben to work a job (they are both plumbers working in the family business) so there will be no bbq afterall. I will not get to meet Ben's new girlfriend today. Oh well, such is life!

Hi ladies, I just started laughing , snow booties for pups, I just can't imagine it. How cute, do they look like lil rubber boots? Teddy was really naughty for the groomer today. He is always nice and sweet well today when they were cutting his under arms and feets he snapped, and squirmed and growled, they had to nuzzle him. (first time) The groomer was so taken by surprise she cut herself w/her sissors. He did come out cute though. poor girl.

He has went from 8 pds to 14.5 pds in 6 mos. He is a little sausage now. I guess he is getting lazy, old and grumpy, who knew? He is 7 yrs old now.

I do have to say, I am just like the other ladies around me too, I want to call the city, go to Turko etc but won't because popular demand doesn't want it. I guess i give up too. I just don't think it's my place. But then you have to ask??? Whos place is it then? I am with Turko, "It's just not right" I have learned to not fight battles for others who will not stick up for themselves unless they are unable to. I tend to only stick up for myself now. i actully have a saying about it.

"I only take crap from one person in life, that is jim (my hubs), and he only has 5 minutes" I have said that sentance to my past boss, my family, etc. I stick by it.

today I am feeling abit chubby and slow, tomm going to church in the morning , meeting friends there, than bkfst out w/them. Have league matches all next wk and having friends over from Florida visiting (staying w/us inour lil granny flat) on Weds, picking them up in LA. So we have a busy wk ahead. I really need to keep focused to keep on my wt loss goals. Today I shared a box of gscout cookies w/hubs. We have 40 boxesin the house for Brianna to sell. We decided one to start the sale with , and one at the end. That is my plan, now to stick to it! Life is good, time to get movin!

Enjoy your new convection oven they sound like a great invention.

Actually, I was not actually doing laundry, my cousin Mary, Aunt Betty's daughter, was. But, she had just gone back up to the second floor to be with AB, and I noticed the smoke before I left the house. I know we were being taken care of.

I do like my new washer. It was not terribly expensive, I went to the Sears scratch and dent store. Saved about $300 I think it was because it was damaged. I still haven't look hard enough to see the dents, etc. My basement is just an old basement, so scratch and dent works fine.

Went to the theater to see several friends in a show tonight. It was a good show, and I enjoyed my time. Sat with other friends, so it was a good social night.

Actually, I guess I should say yesterday, since the clock has turned onto Sunday. But since I have not gone to bed yet...

Anyway, have a wonderful rest of the weekend my friends. As for me, I am taking it one day at a time.

God Bless

Bonnie

Brenda,
I have the impression that those boots don't stay on most of the dogs who try them, but you have a point. I think I'll just walk without him today and he can wait for the next opportunity. He does love to play in the house so I can throw the ball for him when I'm at the TV.

Time to use the new convection toaster oven for the first time. The box has to be broken down for the recycling bin but I'll let Scott do that. (He LIKES to.) I can make some soup with a piece of toast for brunch. Eat light since I'll probably go out with Scott tonight.

Dale,

If Oliver had some snow booties you could take him for walks with you. Otherwise he could get frostbite on his little feet.

Our big rainstorm has not arrived so I think it has stayed in the northern part past Seattle. They can have it. Our streets are dry and it is in the mid-40's.

Sammi,
Whiskey Bottom Road is still intact. As is Scaggsville. The amount of housing that has built up in this area is daunting. I bet your first job was cool. Gated and all that?

Maci,
How do the men get away with playing for free and you all pay whatever it costs? That says something about being too 'good'. But as far as stereotyping that all men are one way and women another, the tendency is there to divide up like that but in reality it's a personality thing. I'd be more likely to do what the guys are doing.

I opted to stay in last night and read then watch tv. I had abandoned a book called DOC that I've now picked back up. The author is going to speak here next month so, when I read about that, it sort of spurred me into returning to the book. Thomas Jefferson will follow the completion of this one.

It's cold but lovely outside. Nice sun. Clean snow, not too much. I just took Oliver out and it appears to be nice enough to go for a walk this afternoon. Yay! Enjoy your Saturday,
Dale

Maci, Yes you should contact Turko and state your case. You need to get a lot of publicity and the news media is the place to get it for free. Go for it!

We have Jessie and no one messes with him. People contact him for all sorts of problems. It's called 'Get Jessie' and he is on King 5 TV News.

My mantra is 'what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong' and I think raising your fees so much is totally wrong. Good luck!

Good morning ladies, Woke up early and am brewing some coffee for hubs. Yesterday was abit messy for me. We had a board mtg for my tennis club. They raised our city court fees from $10 a court to $17 a court , 70% mark up. They raised them 3 yrs ago 30%. My response was lets contact a city council member who is pro seniors/people, we are the city team and got free courts for 20 yrs. Plus won awards from the mayor for bringing good positive sports activitys to our city. i stated my case, and noone wanted to go political, so I had to just accept the consiousness of the group. It was amazing though, I noticed everything everyone said inc.me everyone rallied around it. Pros and cons. So basically whoever spoke last one. And our president was the one who fought my idea.

When I got home Hubs said Hummmm..... Wasn't it 4 yrs ago she took over as treasurer, and did the dealings w/the city, and this yr she was voted the President and did the dealings again. 100% markup. Maybe there is something going on there, it doesn't make sense. I think he might be right. Oh well, what are you going to do? When the last raise happened the men quit paying all together for the men's team and they kept up their sign and they still use the courts 4 days a wk. If anyone comes to play they just say: It's the mens club day!

I find women are so afraid of things they won't challenge things to much. It's like they are afraid of sticking up for themselves. They are afraid of things being taken from them. I think it's sad. Do any of you find this kind of thing to be true around you? or are you one who accepts the things that are "just not right"?

We have this guy on our news, he is awesome. He is called Turko! If there is anything that the city or anyone does to you that just isn't right he takes it on. You just write the "Turko Files" and he makes sure and fixes the messes. Things like city leaks, potholes, unfair billing, etc. His catch phrase is "That's just not right" He is fun to watch. I should call him! teehee.

Good Morning Sparklers --- we have a warmer day in store --- low 70s --- nights will stay chilly. Another cold front coming in later in the week.

Michele, I know you meant liquid sunshine --- do stay warm ---

Dale, my family lived just a couple miles outside of Laurel when I was 8 --- it's called Scaggsville. My mom was raised on a farm there. My first job was at NSA. I remember my Aunt telling me that the people moving in from the D.C. area wanted to change the name of Whiskey Bottom Road. I thought it was stupid --- the name had a historic meaning.

Brenda, hope three's the charm.

Stay warm everyone, Blessings, Sammi

Maci, I also used the word "mother" as a curse word! And I remember mini skirts & gogo boots. I used to wear my school uniform as short as I could

Bonnie, I agree with all the others---scary about the wm I had a problem with our toilet pipe bursting 2 years ago. Water everywhere. My husband (a plumber) said leaky water is a plumber's worst nightmare!

It is very cold outside---30 right now, so I'm wearing my mom's fur coat in the house.
Tomorrow is more of the same.

Sammi, I remember your "liquid rain" comment. I always think of it as I walk in the rain. And I like to sing (to myself, b/c I sound like a crow!) so I think I will do that in the future!

Marija, you sound better. Hope you are.

Have a good weekend, all!

Hey Brenda at least your ripping out scarfs instead of ripping open snack packs! We should all take up knitting! Sorry mam died so young. I wasn't ever allowed to call my mom "mother" she said I used it like a curse word! (only when I was mad at her)

I am just gonna throw my two cents into the discussions today!
*Skirt lengths: my mom was young and hip, (she had me when she was 16) so she wore gogo boots and mini skirts/mini pants. and so did I! My bluebird uniform was hemmed so short my leader made my mom buy a new one! At that pt we quit! Have you ever seen how short the girls dresses were hemmed on the Brady Bunch reruns? Well that was my life!

*Yes of all the vegas buffets my fav was Paris too! Yes it is across from the Bellagio. Our room looked out at the water show. I loved the ambiance of the Paris buffet. I also liked the one at the Flamingo, it overlooked the live flamingos and beautiful gardens.

*sparkpeople- I tell lots of people about sparkpeople and most just nod, I have found the best way is to bring up your sparkpage when you are around them. It's more interesting that way. I had 2 relatives who joined me for awhile.

*Washer- When I lived on base I had a dryer that caught on fire, we had 3 huge firetrucks show up. It was really scary, I am glad your washer didn't burst into flames.

*i guess i just want to say, lets enjoy the cold weather and try to encourage eachother to rethink how to move in the mess outside. I tend to stay on the couch when it's chilly outside and that isn't gonna get me to my goals anytime soon. today was one of those days so my last ditch goal is to do 100 crunches while watching TV tonight! Hopefully tomm I will get in my 30 min of movement! It's gonna be a rainy wk if the weather man is correct.

*Words, My mom always used everything (grammer, good table manners, etc) as a way to tell us that we could be anything w/anyone if we knew the correct way to act. My DD;s she always practiced manners with them for when they would go eat lunch at the "Beverly Hill's Hotel", she took them all there for lunch when they were 13.

Life is good. I can do better everyday. So can you! Keep sparkin ladies, till tomm!

The sun was out today but a storm is moving in over night with rain, thunder and lightning. I will be staying home crocheting. So far I have made the scarf twice and ripped it out twice. Third time is supposed to be a charm, or so I've heard. If I can't get it right this time I will abandon it and give the pattern to someone and let them try it.

There's a stomach virus going around but don't know if it has reached our state yet. They say that hand sanitizer won't kill the germs so that is another reason to stay out of crowds.

Bonnie, we have a Laurel, Maryland near me. When you wrote that you're getting the massage in Laurel I did a double take. And Bonnie got a new washing machine! I just got a new convection toaster oven delivered today. To learn how to work it takes time for me, 'cause I'm slow absorbing unfamiliar instructions. I turn the temperature dial and it just moves around like it's not hooked up to anything, not changing anything. I don't understand that. Yet.

It's snowing again here. I don't know what amount we're expecting but I doubt it's that much. On that note I'll leave all of you. I stayed up late last night finishing my novel LOVE BOMB. I feel housebound for no real reason right now. It's an empty weekend for me, so that must be it.

Bonnie the washer incident sounds scary. Somehow the appliance demons always know when you least need them to fail. Glad your new one is there.

I generally walk the dog each morning and he hates the rain. Just goes to show you that it didn't occur to me that I could walk WITHOUT him. He really hates the rain and smells so bad if he gets too wet.

You are so right about the little steps. It has been a busy week but one of the little steps I take is to log in even if I don't have time to post. This morning is quiet. Everyone have a great day.

Marija,

First of all, your niece has to want to lose weight. Maybe if you cooked one of Chef Meg's recipes of some dish that she loves she can see that there are alternate ways of cooking that are really good. Or buy her the Spark cookbook. Do you see her often? If so, just start talking about SP and possibly she may get interested. It is a touchy subject so I wish you good luck. Tell her about your successes.

I agree that this week has flown by! Here it is almost February but at least we are getting closer to Spring and warmer weather. It hasn't been too bad here in WA State as it stays pretty mild most of the time. I can't believe the cold temperatures across the states. Wow!

Bonnie,

How scary about your washer motor burning up. You were fortunate that you hadn't run out to the store or something. That was one thing I never did when I had a w/d, to turn them on as I went out the door.

Slow down and give your legs a chance to heal from all the stair climbing. I wonder how much it would cost to put in an elevator? But I think they are only for the rich and famous people. LoL

Welcome to our new members. Come back often so we can get to know you. This is a great place to be.

Have a good day everyone. Stay as warm as you can. Never mind the 'hat hair'.

I don't know what happened to the week - yes I do, son-in-law was out of town so my DH & I did a lot of babysitting, no days off this week, so I am trying to catch- up. I am all over the place reading and commenting as I go along:

Bonnie - I know you made your Aunt Betty's last days soothing, you are such a giving person..

Hi Leslie - Are you new since last week?

Welcome KIMMAZ1,This group is such a supportive group.

Sammi, I loved your Inaugural Ball Story. I have heard about volunteering at museums and events and keep playing with the idea.

Query: How do I I want to mention Spark People to my niece who is 36 yrs, over 200 lbs without sounding naggy and judgemental? We recently spoke of how hard it is to lose weight and the plans for new health care charging obese people extra and she said, "Do they think I really want to be this weight, do they know how hard it is?"

My goal is to learn to stay AT this weight for awhile, until I can move on. So this is a learning curve. I kind of get arrogant and think I don't have to watch, but I do, because little slips can creep up. With that in mind, I am starting to plan menus and noting what the slip-ups were.

Maci
What's the What's Eating You Column? Sounds like a place for me to visit. Speaking of visiting, when we went to Vegas, the BEST was the Paris buffet. Isn't that across the street from the Bellagio?

Well, I have to get off the computer now, going to gym and then it is babysitting duty again. We have been hit with way cold weather, I have hat hair and a down coat and long johns!

Have a good day everyone...Marija

I know I will never catch up on all of the posts, so I am not even going to try. Hope you are all well.

I pretty much have all of the arrangements made for Aunt Betty, so I should be able to destress in a few days.

Not much sleep last night, so going to chill this morning and go to Laurel for a massage this afternoon.

My knees, and everything below them are very sore and crampy. My right leg wakes me up most nights because I have to change position and it hurts. Today I was unable to go back to sleep.

The massage should help. It is from all of the climbing the stairs up and down while Aunt Betty was ill.

Not sure if I mentioned that my washer motor burned up on Sunday. Was very glad I caught it before the house filled with smoke, or heaven forbid, fire.

They delivered my new washer on Tuesday, so have been trying to catch up a bit on laundry.

BRENDA

Thanks for the Goodie and and good thoughts.

God Bless my friends. Hoping to be able to catch up from here.

Good Morning Sparklers! It's slowly warming up here --- the nights have been chilly, but nothing like what's going on in the North and Midwest.

Michele, do you ever sing walking in the rain when it's raining there --- I used to do that when I was walking to work in D.C. in the rain.

Bonnie, so sorry to hear about AB -- Bless you for giving her a warm, caring place to be.

Sunny, just remember, inch by inch, it's a cinch -- I set several small goals over a year and a half and am totally thrilled to have lost the weight I wanted to lose, eating healthier and have more energy.

A line from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Psalm of Life -- Let us then be up and doing,
with a heart for any fate, still achieving, still pursuing , learn to labor and to wait.

Have a wonderful day Sparklers, Sammi emoticon

This week has been so filled with things to do and I am still moving at a very slow pace. Some very interesting posts in the past two days. I keep checking in so it reminds me to watch what I eat.

Raining here, but stopped for a while this afternoon and got my walk in.

Just dropping in to say "hi"

I rememberwhen I had to do all those slips/knees together thing, too. You are not alone there!
We also had to wear "chapel veils" a kind of lace cap on the top of our heads when we went to daily mass during elementary school. I actually miss those things now!

I'mgoing to the dentist to have the rest of my teeth cleaned this morning. The wholemouth can not be done in one visit b/c of the way the insurance sysytem is here. Most Japansese people don't take care of their teeth, so I am toldconstantly how wonderful looking my teeth are!

Have a good weekend, all!

I have picked up 5lbs over the holidays and am struggling trying to get my gym time in, did go this morning after work for 50 min of cardio, strength training, hoping I will fit this in as well tomorrow as well after I get off at 11:30am before I start the cleaning, sounds like a long day lol. BRENDA,
To Whom Do I Address This Letter? is an example.
You lost your mother very young. She didn't have the time needed to badger you about other things. Yeah, we had to wear slips and keep our knees together and all kinds of repressive female rules. My father would shame me if I didn't have a slip on. I would think, Why Are You Looking So Hard At My Legs? And, What's Wrong With Legs?

I won't do a crochet project where counting is required. In the beginning I had a stitch that required it (and it made jagged pattern lines by using it) but that dedication is long gone. I've lost my interest in crocheting and never did get into knitting. Now just reading my books is enough of a challenge, or finding the ability to take a good walk. (I'm a TV addict.)

Good Morning Everyone,

I woke up this morning with a sore crack at the corner of my mouth. What's with that? Is it a vitamin deficiency? I haven't been out in the cold. I used to get them all the time working outside all the time. I guess I should walk down to RiteAide and get some Blistex. All I have is Lip Balm. My neighbor got a bad lip infection last year and her doctor told her to throw out her old lipstick. That may be the culprit.

Now that the rain has come in the fog has cleared. Weathermen are yapping about a storm moving in but they tend to hang around the northern part of the western side of our state. I am in the southwest side.

Yesterday I worked on a new pattern to make a crocheted scarf but ended up ripping it all out as something was off. I guess I should have counted the stitches instead of assuming they were right. This pattern is working in the round so if you get one or two stitches off, it won't lay flat like it is supposed to. So I will try again today. This is supposed to be a very simple pattern using three different stitches. I counted the beginning stitches as that is the foundation but at the last round I was 20 stitches too few. Hmmmm

When I had cats they slept on the foot of out bed on their blankets but the dogs were not allowed in our bedroom. They slept in their crates on the back porch. I do miss my animals but don't want any living in an apartment. When my husband had his stroke and I had to move and didn't know where I would end up, I gave my animals away and that was worse than losing my husband for me. That's another story best forgotten.

Dale, it is quite interesting about the 'who' and 'that'. What about 'whom"? There are not too many ways to use that term. You had a very wise mother. The only thing I remember my mother telling me was to keep my skirt over my knees and I had to call her 'Mam' or I would be in trouble. She died when she was 37 and I was 16 in '58.

Have a great day everyone. TTYL

We woke to a lovely snow this morning that is no impediment to traffic but makes everything look just lovely. I have to get ready to walk Oliver out there very soon.

BONNIE, I know Aunt Betty will rest in peace. Love is a mighty gift. Ah that we all have such care and attention as she has had.

I love this English lesson my mother crammed into my head by my early 40s. I was still not getting it until her badgering won out: Did you know that the word 'who' is to be used about people and that 'that' is to be used about things? It seems everyone just says 'that' about everything these days. On TV, movies, in novels... everywhere (almost). When I hear someone use 'who' it's like a breath of fresh air. She'd go "people who, things that!" over and over. Thanks Ma. Now I can't help but hear what everyone else is doing. Who knew she was going to win out against all of pop culture? (At least for my son and me.)

I was pinned between both pets all night which made for a very uncomfortable sleep. They flanked my sides, leaning in. I toss and turn a lot trying to find that blissful state of sleep, but being pinned in made it really rough.

...Drinking a new brand of coffee from Trader Joe's and am very pleased with it (BALI). BUT! My scale is up now for two whole days from eating poorly. I DO know better.

Time to refill my cup. Enjoy your Thursday! (I bagged my commitment to go to a seminar by some department from the State on nicotine addiction today. Felt selfish, and needing to sleep in and relax.)
Dale

Hi Ladies,
*Bonnie, I wrote alot of things to say to you about Auntie B's passing , everyone said the same things I was gonna tell you. I want to thank you for sharing her life w/us all. Sorry to hear about her loss. No worries if others around you take an attitude, all people grieve differently. Some do it w/anger. You were the lucky one to be around her at the end. She was lucky to have you there too!

*Sounds like everyone is on the move, or trying to keep motivated w/their food choices, exercise, Love the idea of looking around and decluttering.

It's 5:30am, Brianna just showed up, I snuggled her up in the couch by me. My computer is in our den. I love our den, it has a fireplace, and it's preety. We use the frount room for TV. That's where the "big" couch is. I just lit the fireplace for Brianna and I. Last night was Datenight for my 2 oldest DD;s so hubs and I had the kids overnight. We all snuggled up to watch our fav shows last night w/them. Modern family and The middle. Priceless.

Last night We had briannas daisy girlscout troop here, hubs built a bonfire for the girls and they did their crafts on the outside pooltable outside by the fire. Hubs built us a wonderul outside cover w/twinkle lights it is not only beautiful but a wonderful place to be. The mtg was a success.

It was nice to show off our home, it is built in 1953 originally a 2 bdrm, 2 bath wood home, hubs has added and remodeled it all, plus built a matching granny flat. Everyone says it's darling. I love it too. There is a pic on the frount of my sparkpage. ck it out.

I don't think I shared this yet, but Hubs and I are putting on a couple valentines party this yr, Feb 9th, We invited all our tennis couples we know, well it ended up being bigger than I imagined and we moved it to my friend Annies home, She is now helping to put it on. We are having a game night. Battle of the Sexes (during cocktail hr), RLC, and Bunco to end the night. I put one on yrs ago and it created some of our best couple friends. HOpe this one is as successful. I don't know if moving the party was the best idea for us, but it sure takes the pressure off.

Off to a busy morning getting all the gkids off to school, I think I may make a big egg/waffles bkfst. They will love it and I will get bkfst over and done with. Yes. Life is good!

a very busy week. new hospice company so we get new people. they seem to be nice but the last one too only they did not have an aide for us.

i planned my food menu now to do a exercise plan. that is my hardest due to feeling guilty at leaving mom alone with dad.

friday take mom to doctor. next week it should be less stressful.

Bonnie - I'm so sorry to hear about your Aunt Betty. You did so much for her and you need to fill good that you did. Hospice is wonderful and I'm so glad you had them there. I went through this with my Mom and was so glad I was there when she passed. She will always remain alive in your heart and memories. Please know you're in my thoughts and prayers. Just stopping to let you all know that my Aunt Betty passed away yesterday at 5:20pm. I was with her and the nurse from hospice was there as she drew her last breath.

I wanted to be there, and I was glad no one else was. I don't think it would have been as comforting to the rest of the family as it was to me.

God Bless my friends, and thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Hoping to be back in a few days or so when I have all arrangements made, and have slept for a few days!

Brenda I too like to clean & declutter my house. It is very destressing.

It is raining outside today, & I have to bike ride to my piano / tone chime lesson, about40 minutes mostly uphill. I'll be glad when it warms up!

Our foggy days are finally over and now the rain is coming. We have had a dry January so far. The curtains for Jim's apartment turned out perfect so he is very happy. I am glad the job is over. Actually it would have been easier to make them from scratch than to rip out and cut and hem but the ready made are cheaper with the price of fabric these days.

I have been busy decluttering my apartment so now I don't feel so closed in. It's the little piles everywhere that bug me so I am using baskets to put things in so it is much neater now. I gave away a lot of yarn to the neighbor who likes to crochet hats to give away so now I was able to put fabric in one of the drawers. I still have a huge stash of yarn in plastic totes in the closet.

Upping fruits and veggies everyday is also working as my scale is going down instead of yo yo-ing. Next I am going to start walking more as the weather warms up. Walking down the hill and back up again is a real workout for me. I have been sleeping much better too so that in turn gives me more energy. Life is good.
