Our snow stopped at three so now it will just be very cold. It wouldn't matter if we did get a lot of snow because all we have to do here is go downstairs to the TV room. We have 42 residents here and most of them don't have a car because they are too old or infirm to drive. Or a couple are too crazy.

I made 30 tiny ham & cheese on rye sandwiches and wrapped them individually. I will put out a jug of mustard if they want it. No mayonnaise on them because some people are allergic to eggs.

Bonnie, the hamburger gravy dish sounds really yummy. That's my kind of food-one pot meals. I would have never thought to make it that way. I hope you get a good night's sleep.

I didn't make the pouch yet because I need to think about it for a while before I actually start sewing. I am really good at thinking about things. LoL Still thinking about making those gingersnap cookies. I just heard that they are good for a hangover. LoL No alcohol is allowed at our parties but there are a few who drink in their apartments. They think we don't know.

Fireworks have been for sale all over town so it will be a noisy night.

Happy New Year! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Bonnie hope you are feeling better! A 2 weekcold is a long time, isn't it? It seems it takes our bodies so long to get better as we get older. you're not going to Debbie's---do have a problem with Mexican food? I can eat it if it's not too spicey.

Well off to visit my DH's dad. Then onto the shrine, then we will go out to a big Italian buffet dinner. Buffets are no longer good for me--don't eat much.

Happy New year girls!

I also love Havarti Cheese, but not sure I have ever had the crackers. I have to admit that I don't keep cheese around the house, because, it is one of those things I can really overeat on, especially with crackers.

I eat it if I am somewhere and I want it, no forbidden foods, but I don't just have good cheese around. I buy some shredded cheese, and some processed cheese, to make grilled cheese sandwiches, or on salads or in omelets. But I know that if I keep that wonderful brick of cheese in the house, well, you all know.

Glad you are enjoying it.

Made "hamburg gravy" and mashed potatoes for Aunt Betty and me for dinner. I use a pound of ground sirloin, a chopped onion, two cans of green beans, and one can of peas. Thicken it a little and serve it over the mashed potatoes.

This way, we have our veggies right in our meal.

Sometimes, I will put in a can of diced tomatoes as well.

You can see, I am just a very basic kind of cook.

Anyway, we enjoy it.

Obviously, I am not going to Debbie's tonight for dinner, she is having Mexican food.

Last night was my 4th pretty much sleepless night in a row. I had so much anxiety after not sleeping for 3 nights, that I could not even stand to have my Cpap on my face.

Just kind of dozed a bit so that my body got some rest.

Hoping tonight will be better.

If this cold is not gone by Friday, it will be two weeks, I will be calling the dr for some drugs.

Well, this too shall pass

MACI

I guess I have not been paying too much attention because of being sick, so am not sure where to post my weight on Weds.

I am going to look on your Spark Page and see your house.

I think I have some pictures from remodeling projects a few years ago on my page, if you want to go there.

Things have been moved around and changed a bit. The purple bedroom is now a beautiful soft yellow, and my couch is back in the living room. I just can't keep things the same. Don't think there are any pics of the bed sitting room since it has been yellow.

I am feeling pretty tough, so I guess I will just end now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my great friends here. Thank you all for being my support system now for such a long time. God Bless.

Actually, I think I have been on this thread for 4 years as of December. Good things are worth keeping!

See ya on the flip side!

Hi ladies, it's not New yrs eve yet where I live. It's almost 4pm. The gkids are coming at 6pm, we are going to have shreaded beef tacos and rice, yum! I bought lil cupcakes and we have sparklers to welcome in the new yr. We celebrate it at 9pm here, (The new york new yr ball is always big news here so we do the countdown then) leave the midnight one for the youngens! We also got a kids movie for us all to have a special movie night. fun.

*Mich- yes, please send me your SW. you can send it to me anytime. I took all the ones sent so far and posted them. We ended up making shreaded bf burritos, yummy! I just put the whole roast in the crockpot w/potatoes. Beef is my favorite!

*Brenda- Hope your party isn't a whiteout. Thye meal deal sounds like a great deal, we could eat off that all week. I used to make purses w/jeans , just cut off the legs and hem the pockets and bottom. Not only is it cute, but there are pockets to put all your special things.
*Dale- "Is scott crazy?" Your lobster party sounds like so much fun! So may people don't like to be on the roads for new yrs, I am one of them, but i think I would of made an exception!

*Kathy- I am into staging my christmas things right now, everything is slowly and surely moving to the kitchen table to be put away in a couple days, this is how I don't forget to pack things. This is the first yr in a long time I haven't had a "real" tree. I used to buy one of those christmas tree bags and put in under the tree when I set it up, than poof all you have to do it roll it over the tree and carry it out, no needles, you can also do this w/a trashbag. We have been using 2 trees for a few yrs. A darling small tabletop "fake" one in the frount window that has all our fav ornaments on it, it is so cute it looks like a real pinetree, complete w/pinecones. and the 2nd "real" one, this yr we opted out of the real one, and it's was really nice and easy, i just kept pine candles burning to have the christmas smell around.

This morning, at tennis practice, I had invited 4 of our subs to join us, they were all so excited to play w/us. (I remember when I was first invited to play "up" as they call it, it was so exciting and scary) They are from the lower level team in our league. I set up a play schedule so they intermingled w/us all. i recieved thank yous from them all. It was really nice. It's hard to believe I am now on the top team, we have 4 levels. Today had a great tennis day. Won all matches.

Have a happy New Yrs eve, ladies, tomm is new yrs day, a day of rest and fun. Enjoy it!
Oh today went to Costco w/2 of my tennis friends and they were giving out sample chz and crackers, I bought the most delicious set today, the chz is called "Havarti" OMG it's delicious. and the crackers are made by Crunchmaster called Multi-seed crackers, OMGosh it's aperfect pair, the crackers are gluten free, and 100% grain. Usually I like things alittle bit less healthy. If you get a chance go get this pair of yum. I made Hubs 2 mini plates of chz & crackers and ended up eating them both, (he just wasn't fast enough) teehee. Don't forget to WI andsend me your SW in the morning!

Brenda how did your pouch turn out? Has the snow stopped? Do you drive at all in the snow? How was the party?

Kathy did you manage to get the tree cleaned up without ruining your floors? I have wood floors too. I am forever mopping & waxing trying to keep them clean.. But I prefer them over carpets.

Dale, how was your lobster dinner? Good for you for continuing your walks. I am walking today, New years day. Then we willvisit shrines, go for walks, & then a big buffet dinner at an Italian restaurant.

Happy New year all!

Dale,

Your lobster dinner sounds like great fun. Too bad Scott decided not to partake.

The snow has been falling pretty steady the last three hours on and off, now it is getting serious and sticking to the road. Very slippery out there. 31 degrees right now, 29 for tomorrow but the snow is supposed to be gone by then. We shall see.................

I'm in the process of making a pouch for my neighbors wheelchair (the pot head) out of some upholstery material, fake leather. Not sure how it will sew on the machine. If not I'll make it out of denim. Just thinking that an old pair of jeans would work using the leg. Hmmmmmm

Kathy, if you have a turkey baster you can suck the water out of the tree stand. Then wrap the bottom of the tree with an old towel and you won't get much water on your hardwood.

Happy New Year, everyone!! Be safe if you are traveling.

We are staying home, which I much prefer. I have been busy cleaning. I need to start putting away our Christmas stuff. DH had to work today (I took the day off-have been off since last Monday-whoohoo!). He will help with the tree tomorrow. I dread dealing with the pine needles and preventing the water from the tree stand dripping onto our hardwood floor.

Well, it looks like we will have a white New Years because the snow is coming down thick and fast. It is supposed to snow along Hood Canal about two hours away, not in our area according to the morning weather report. They just can't get the forecast right it seems. Good thing I went to the store yesterday afternoon to get another 'meal deal'. Ten pound boneless turkey roll, ten pound ham, five pounds of potatoes, dinner rolls, gravy mix, a can of olives, and two cans of green beans, all for $20. This is the third one I have bought but first time I kept the ham.

We are having a party in the TV room tonight so am making tiny ham and cheese on rye sandwiches. I'm sure there will be a lot of chips and gooey things to eat, as that is what these people like. I always make healthy stuff.

Have a great day everyone. This is the last chance to accomplish things this year.

Happy New Year to those in different time zones.

I don't even want to think about a stomach virus.
Hoping you don't get it either!

KATHY

Boy, if you lived in Toledo, I would buy your elliptical. With my back issues, it is much better for me than the treadmill, for my knees too I think. Couldn't use it right now, but hoping to be able to later. Oh well, if I can just get better, now that my knees are a bit better, I can go to the pool at the gym, and then work my way up to the elliptical.

I had one once before, and I really don't have a good place to put one. My basement ceilings are pretty short. House was built in 1917.

Told my friend Nancy yesterday as we were driving around looking at all of the expensive houses in the snow, that if I ever really had big money, I would want to buy a lot in an area where the neighbors were not too close, but maybe an extra lot away. Then I would have a beautiful new basement built and have my old house moved to it.

I would have to have millions, because this old house is 3 stories high. I have a full dormer attic. My Aunt Marion always wanted to live up there. She would be glad to know that Aunt Betty is living in the upstairs at least! They were and are my mom's two sisters.

I used to spend a lot of time with my Aunt Marion, and I still find myself reaching to call her sometimes. She has been gone probably at least 10 years or so.

My mom was giving her cousin my phone number a couple of weeks ago, and she gave her Aunt Marion's number instead. June called and left a message for me to call Aunt June. My cousin Ron, who still lives in the house was a bit perplexed.

It was pretty funny. As soon as June got my correct number, and called me, she told me the number mom had given her, and I told her immediately that was Aunt Marion's.

Funny how some things never leave you.

I seem to be feeling a bit better this afternoon. I have been drinking tea, and had some Lipton noodle soup.

Not coughing at all.

Hope it holds throughout the night.

DALE

Sounds like a wonderful plan for New Years. Great idea to have the lobsters already prepared. Enjoy.

BRENDA

Good idea to put the stuff for emergencies in a place that is not as easy to get to and leave your daily stuff in the easier places.

Well I've piled my pillows up in the bed, so I am going to get in it and watch "American Pickers". One of my favorite shows.

Have a great evening all.

Dale,

Walking around the lake in the strong winds, aren't you afraid of flying branches or falling trees? Around here trees fall all the time and sometimes fall on cars and many people have been killed from that this year. A week or so ago a husband and wife were killed driving down the road when a tree toppled over on top of their car. Three of their grown children were in the back seat and witnessed the whole thing. Very tragic. So please be careful!

Bonnie,

I hope you get to feeling better quickly. There is a stomach virus going around here so I hope it doesn't find me.

The sun is actually out and shining today and the days are warming up. These are crazy weather days. The snow is staying in the mountains where it belongs.

I now have an empty cupboard over the refrigerator since I gave away the Oster blender with the extra chopping bowl to Sam downstairs. Since I got the Wolfgang Puck Immersion blender with all the bells and whistles I don't need the blender anymore as I have a few small appliances that I can use that do basically the same thing. I think I will fill that cupboard with the stuff I bought 'just in case it snows and I can't get to the store'. That way I will have more room for other stuff. Seems like when we change one thing it leads to another and another. My pantry is overflowing but at least the door still closes. LoL

The Ginger Snap cookies I have been threatening to bake haven't been made. I saw some at the grocery store yesterday but they were $4 a bag so they are still there on the shelf too.

Kathy,

Good luck selling the eliptical and getting a new treadmill. I have never done either. I almost got on a treadmill at my last residence but it scared me seeing it running underneath me so I shut it off and went home. I tried to ride the bicycle but couldn't adjust it any closer to the pedals so that was a bummer. So I just walk but not as much as I should.

Life plans change and firm up.

I turned down the offer to go to D.C. this afternoon because Mom said it was okay to invite all the people who wanted to do the lobster dinner at her house (so long as she didn't have to do the work) on New Year's Eve. She has a big enough dining room table for 8 where I do not. I've just placed the lobster order with the store to steam them instead of me. The other years there were just 4 of us and I steamed the lobsters myself.

And so it'll be Me and Scott, Mom, Sharon the tenant, Michael from NY, Sara, Maria and husband Eugene. Since we'll have some nibbles out before hand I think the dogs have to stay in the other room or they'll want to steal from the plates.

Then, this afternoon, as cold as it is out there with a strong wind, I did a double Wilde Lake walk! That's an antidote for last night's pizza and cake. (The wind is howling!)

Enjoy your Sunday,
Dale

Kathy what exactly is an "ellipitcal"? I know what a treadmill is. Excuse my ignorance.
Hope you enjoyed church. I too, am going back to church this morning (Monday) for daily mass. I am catholic, and as a Catholic, we are supposed to going to mass every Sunday. I used to have to go to church when I was in elementary school. I miss it, too.

Dale, how did you enjoy D.C. ? I haven't been there since I was about 12. I really enjoyed it. My parents made us walk around (vs using the bus or subway) so we got a alot of exercise in! Too much to see in one day.

I am off to church. Then I will come home & houseclean.

I did not think about the charities not being able to take the homemade goodies. I am sure you are right. That's ok, the folks at hubby's job can just take care of them for you!

Slept a bit better last night, but still up several times with the coughing.

It is kind of funny. I have been having issues with my newer Cpap machine, it is about 2 years old, so I brought the old one to my room. Now I have both in place to use.

Last night, I used the old one for the first few hours, I had put a bunch of pillows to make a big cozy place to keep my head up. Helped, but still woke up coughing about 3 hours into the night.

Got up, used my nasal rinse a couple of times, more vicks, cough drops, etc, watched a bit of tv, and went back an hour or two later. Remake the pillow bed, and put on the old machine. It bothered me, so I moved the hose and headgear from the old to the new, and got a few more hours. Feeling more rested today, but am staying in.

Had a party to go to, but not going.

Hoping to be better tomorrow so I can go to my friend Debbie's house for dinner. She also has this crap, so everyone who will be there has already been exposed to either her or me. Just don't want to be coughing at everyone anyway. Fingers crossed.

Read of all of your posts, but mind is not working well enough to attempt to answer.

Wishing you all well, and hope you are having a good Sunday.

MACI

I guess I knew it was not going to happen for you to tell your daughter about alanon, but maybe as she sees the changes you are making in the way you are responding to her and to the situation, she might find some interest.

Worth a prayer or two!

God Bless my friends.

Dale-Small world, huh? I don't know your friend, Wednesday (a name that would be hard to forget!). Of course, I don't know very many people at Gallaudet-mostly those in the counseling dept. or the mental health center. Have fun in D.C. We went there via metro on Thursday with Scott's daughter, her boyfriend, and his 7 year old son. We went to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum and have fun. I hope to return soon. Too much to see in one museum. I want to get tickets online for the live butterfly pavilion. That would be so much fun, I think!

Enjoyed church this morning and felt like it was a good fit for me. Im sure I will return there soon.

Still trying to get back on track here and hope I get my act together soon. Will try to be more active on here.

Kathy,
I have a girlfriend named Wednesday who works at Galeudet Grad Admissions Dept. She's been there for years.

After the movie last night I totally ate over the top and killed my careful 3 day run. During the day I was fine but after 9pm I went to UNO'S and had half a wild mushroom pizza (over the calorie portion) and then hit that fudgy chocolate cake sitting on my counter that Scott had brought in, with two glasses of skim milk at home. I'm throwing away the other half of it. I must say it was good.

Today I have the option of going into D.C. with a couple friends which would include lunch out. For that I'll be very careful!

Good morning, everyone! Today, I am going to try out a church. I have not been attending worship services on a regular basis in years and really miss the fellowship. I have had some email communication with the pastor of one church and like how approachable she appears to be. She also mentioned that one member of the congregation is a retired professor from Gallaudet. Hopefully, that will help to have someone there that can actually sign.

Did not use the elliptical last night, but I am hoping the guy who emailed expressing an interest in it will come by today or tomorrow to see it. Then, I can get back to using a treadmill. I like knowing I can walk or run, whatever I am in the mood for.

Have a great day, everyone.

Maci, I did join the challenge a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to it!!

Oh my! Three days of not positng, & I am lost as to what everone is doing!

Welcome Mary Ann! Such a lovely name! I have a cousin named Mary Ann!

It is pouring rain today! Since DH is off from work for the new years holidays, he has been driving me (us) around in the car instead of me having to get around in the rain on a bike or by walking. I have forgotten how spoiled I lived in America---I ran from building to car, & back to car from building, not getting hardly wet at all! How wonderful it was to day! usually on a day like today, I am soaked. It takes such effort to get out the raincoat, have a dry cloth ready to wipe off my wet bike & glasses, , hang all the wet stuff around the room when I get home, dry the shoes with a futon dryer.... none of that today--hooray!

Sammi, how is your husband today?

Bonnie, how was your lunch with Nancy? Are you feeling better?

Fiona, good for you--no weight gain! Hooray!

Dale, great with the exercise! keeep going!

MaryAnn,

We lived in Scottsdale, AZ for 19 years --- I had some of my friends who live in Colorado come to visit and then on to Bullhead City for a few days to gamble. I'm am not a fan of Arizona, but I wouldn't mind a visit with old friends and favorite restaurants.

Maci, my DH and I decidedd to sell my elliptical and I have already been contacted by someone on Craigslist who is interested in it!

I know i will do much more with a treadmill and look forward to getting back into using one again. We found the ProFrom 2000 foldable treadmill on Consumer Reports and it rates well.

Hi ladies, I have just spent the last 30 min reading all your past posts, oh I love reading what you all are up to! Today woke up and went w/hubs to his jobsite, he is doing some work for one of my tennis friends. He fixed so many of her things he finished her honey do list. It was fun, her mom is 93 and we sat at the table and I listened to all her stories, she is from China. so much fun. than come home and it rained all day, my DD3 came over and hung out w/me, she is almost in labor w/her first. (she is having contractions every 3 hrs and has for 2 days now) I expect we will be meeting John Herbert Goldsworthy the 5th, soon! Hubs and I canceled our plans to go out of town for new yrs, to close for lil john to come. How exciting for our family.

I started a new thread at the bottom of the team page called "what's eating you?" post it and the solution too! It's been a good venting tool. Come join w/any lil thing that is making you go grrrrrrrrr. It's actually preety fun to do!

*Brenda- So glad you feel so safe where you live, Great idea to share your candies w/all the other friends you have.
*Sammi- I love the catamaran. Oh how awsome your sand memory, thanks for sharing it. it sure is munchie weather here too, I am doing my best! You have lived in some really wonderful places.
*Fiona- Miss your smiling face and attitude! cya in the new yr!

*Mary- Oh you have no idea how hard it is to see the trainwreck coming and not completly do all I can to get her off the tracks. truthfully, I am not very good at it, but hey what i do know is that I have to say what I see, than let go of it! (I am working on it) It made me laugh when I heard "you" were making cookies for parents??? That seems abit backwards to me. Your handles made me laugh too! Hide all the things you rarely use in the drawer you can hardly open. that's my secret.

*Dale- Guess Scott likes you just the way you are! Plus some! teehee. sounds like Oliver does a good job keeping you company. Do you think when he is barking, "what is he saying or talking to?" What a great place Ribs and Blues. How fun.
*Cheryl- No kidding! No worries girl we are gonna kick off those pds in 2013 , plus some!
*Bonnie- I always touch up my toenails inbetween pedis, I just paint over them, they look great. You made me laugh!~ (tell DD about Alanon?) yeah right, I can't tell her to buckle her seatbelt w/o a meltdown these days. teehee. What a great day we both had. woohoo.

*Kathy- Get rid of it by the end of the wkend. I got my home junkfood free today, of course it meant I had to eat an extra cookie or two when i was dumping chocolates, but hey that's ok. I also put on the fridge pics of women that looked like me the way I want to look/dress, I made a collage out of magazine pics. You are gonna be ok, i can hear it you are on fire again! If you haven't joined the challenge do it now!

*Mary ann- I love laughlin, I am from Oceanside, San Diego Cty. The colorado river is magical to me, I love it! I saw Les M in NY, on Broadway, 5th row ctr, I knew the star and she took us backstage to meet the actors it was a night to remember. It was many yrs ago.

Well ladies, my gkids are gonna be here at 8pm, hubs is having dinner w/Em and John, our kids and he will be coming home around the same time, I bowed out so I could do some sparking while they were eating dinner. Life is good today, i am enjoying the rainy weather, and hoping it clears up Mon morning for tennis team practice. Tonight watching my Timothy green movie again, Brianna (5) wants to watch it! Whatever B wants she gets from gma!

I decided to sell my elliptical and getva treadmill, which I know I will use a lot more often. I have already gotten an email from someone interested in looking at it, from Craigslist!

I want to see Les MIs myself, but I am going to have to wait until this stinking sinus infection goes away!

Sounds like you live in a nice area.

SAMMI and DALE

So fun that you have places to reminisce about having been there at different times, NOT together. I love that about this place.

Woke at 3:00an this morning, coughing my head off! Watched a bit of tv, then just relaxed in my bed until about 8:30 am or so. Did not put my cpap back on, because it is impossible to sleep with it on while coughing!

Nancy and I had plans to go to breakfast, so she came over and we did. Asked if she wanted to go to Hidden Lake Gardens, it is an aboretum for the University of Michigan, and it is just beautiful.

About an hour from my house, or maybe a bit more. Well, we started out, and ended up in Blissfield, a small town in Mich, and ended up at an antique mall, and eating dinner at a lovely local restaurant there. Came back home an drove around looking at the trees, lights, houses, etc in and around one of our great metroparks, called Wildwood.

We will have to get to Hidden Lake another time. I needed an adventure. We had a great day.

I am now exhausted as can be, so I hope I sleep well tonight.

Wishing you all a great Sunday.

PS, KATHY

Are there any homeless shelters, or pantries around your house? That might be a good place to take the things you don't want to eat. Just a thought.

God Bless my friends.

Hello everyone!
Friends & I went to see Les Miserables....wonderful I cried and cried. Three and half hours. Then we enjoyed dinner together.

I'm in Bullhead City AZ, on the Colorado River. The other side of the river is Laughlin, NV which is a mini-Las Vegas with casinos and movie theatres. Anyone in my area?

Well, my weight went up from 138 to 139.8-no surprise. :-(. I am going to freeze the cookies and have DH take them to work when our leave time is over. We have had light snow all day so far...it has been fun and pretty to watch it come down. We went to Bass Pro to get me some new boots for winter weather. The soles of my hiking boots literally disentegrated two years ago and I never got new boots. I found some nice looking and cheap boots (37 including tax!) that are waterproof and have a thinsulate lining, which can be removed to dry out.

I am going to take a short nap, then will try to push myself into using my elliptical (i wish I had purchased a new treadmilil instead of getting an elliptical when my treadmill died last year).

Funny thing about appliances. My daughter's refrigerator went out the day after christmas. Maybe they don't like the holidays.
I got a serious sinus infection in November and since then I have had one cold after an other. It has really limited my exercise time so my weight is up a few pounds and the medicine from the doctor is probably not helping. Logging into SP every day has helped me to maintain focus and not pig out. It is rainy and cold outside (southern Calif cold is mild compared to other places) so a good day to stay inside and sip hot tea.

Sunny in Southern California PST

160.5 third day in a row, hopeful

SAMMI,
I remember before Columbia, too. When I was a girl we lived in Baltimore for several years and used to drive down the Route 29 corridor to my grandparents house in DC. There was a horse farm by the side of the road where we'd stop each time for a break because I always got carsick if we didn't. Even after Columbia was built that horse farm existed for years. Not anymore of course. And if you were around when the mall was built, that was the time I moved down from NY. So we were in the same neighborhood at that time.

KATHY,
Thanks for the credit on the walking. I know you don't want to throw out the junk food so the next best thing is to freeze them and put them in the back underneath your healthier foods.
Get rid of some of it though. Scott brought me a huge wedge of chocolate cake which sits on my counter. I'm telling myself that for every day I ignore it, it's getting more stale. That way I can put it down the disposal instead of my gullet!

I went to Bare Bones Restaurant last night and ordered a lunch portion of ribs for dinner, and included broccoli and slaw for my healthier sides. I also had one beer. That put me over my calories but still inside a healthy range. I usually wear my fitbit the second I wake up but sometimes I forget and miss all the steps walking around the house. My girlfriend Wednesday turned me on to a new app for logging food and exercise that I have downloaded for both the iPhone and computer. It will tell me, based on each days total caloric intake, what I'd weigh in 5 weeks if I ate like that every day. That's motivating.

Walking in cold weather is actually easier than in the heat of summer. Just so long as the surfaces aren't slippery or muddy, that is. I'm telling you, it really helps me out to do it. But right now I'm stalling on putting the jeans on to walk the dog. I need a shower which will have to wait. The day is open and free to read my book or do whatever.

Enjoy your Saturday,
Dale

Kathy, package up the cookies and put them in the freezer. Then in a few months you can throw them out because they will be freezer burned. That way you won't feel so bad about tossing them.

My neighbor brought me a bag of assorted candies last night. She found a huge urn at Costco that she really wanted and it was just over $40 but was filled with the candies. I will take them downstairs and put them on the counter and they won't go to waste. You know that I won't eat them.

Hi Kathy,

Just throw the junk food out --- replace with mixed nuts, healthy crackers --- I love the Crunchmaster Olive Oil and Rosemary --- and low sodium munster cheese, it's so good.
I keep finding great foods that are healthy and taste great.

I doubt that most of the small greenhouses are still there, it's been about 25 years since
I visited most of them --- my favorite was the Great Falls Greenhouse in Virginia --- it was
old and full of a little bit of everything. There were several in Laurel and two in Randallstown.

Have a good evening. Sammi

Hi everyone! I know I won't remember all the posts. It is hard to do this from my iPad.

Sammi, i live in Bowie, MD. Small world, huh? Do you recall which nurseries were your favorites for new plants?

Mary, how odd about your appliance handles! We had to replace our refrigerator, then our dishwasher a few months later. I am just waiting for our stove and microwave to die next; the new appliances are stainless steel and the old ones are white, so the kitchen does not look like a show room for sure! LOL

So many of you have been through so much and you have shown fantastic strength. You are all an inspiration to me.

DAle, you sure have a lot of motivation, getting out to walk so much, especially in the cold! I have done not done much exercising at all. My fitbit records my steps daily, but I have not pushed myself much. I am sure I gained weight this week. Tomorrow is my weigh in day.

I have so much junk food left and have absolutely NO willpower. Anyone have any ideas for me?? I don't want to throw the cookies away, but don't want to eat them, either.

Dale,

When I was a little girl, Columbia didn't exist -- it was a few large rambling meadows with
a stream running through it. I remember when they built the shopping center out there --
loved the fountain near the food court. Would buy a piece of pizza and sit on the steps
of the fountain. I was a plant nut then too and would drive to Maryland and Virginia Greenhouses in search of unusual plants. I lived on 14th & N street, a block from
Thomas Circle in a high rise. Used to walk to work on K street.

I wrote such a long post, that I see Dale and Mary wrote in between.

DALE

Have fun at your dinner and music tonight. Sounds fun.

I want to see all of those movies. My old roommate Laura and I drove to visit another friend in Florida about 10 years ago or so, and we listened to the "Life of Pi". on tape on the drive. Such an interesting book, and the reader had just the right voice and cadence to make it great.

MARY

Good news that now all of your handles match!

Way to go, Dale...I'll have to look for the movies. My teaching partner and I have gone to several movies since school began. She just went through a bad divorce and we hang onto each other a bunch!

Bonnie, Spring is almost an hour north of me...I'm on the west side of Houston. It's a huge city, that's for sure. My sister in law is on Tiki Island, right before you get to Galveston. I love it---such a peaceful and delightful place! I love the historic district. I wonder if your brother had anyone carve something of the tree that was fallen? There's a big walking tour that I took with friends last year to see all the carvings---very unique. And it WAS heartbreaking to see all the devastation from Ike. I lost power for 13 days. Thank goodness Dave was alive and well. He could have existed with a knife, some matches, a gun, and some string, lol. A true mountain man born in the wrong century!! He saw it as an adventure. Um...I did NOT!!

Well, you all sound as though you have gotten through the holidays so far doing very well. Congratulations.

I have done pretty well. I am up a bit, but am not going to claim it until the first of the year. I know that actually most of what I have found, is water weight, so it will come off with a few good days of healthy eating.

I am not really overeating, I am just eating more stuff that I usually wouldn't. It's ok.

I am feeling some better today. Headache this evening, but did pretty well for most of the day.

Took Aunt Betty to the drugstore to have her blood pressure taken, but the machine would not work, so I took her to a different one, and we got it done.

That was ok, it got both of us a bit of exercise. I walked around the store to look for a few things, so I got a bit more.

Had my gel nails redone today. It was funny, I am left handed, but the nails on my left hand never had a chip in them. The right hand had about 4 nails that the tips chipped off. I just found a polish that matched and redid the right hand when it needed it. IT was three weeks, and they were guaranteed for 2.

Liz, my manicurist said she thinks that because my nails are so very thin, that they got bent, and then broke the seal. She cut them shorter so they should last better this time. I also won't be baking and cleaning up after baking anymore until NEXT Christmas. I think I had my right hand in the water much more, so it made those nails even softer.

Anyway, I am happy with my new color

God Bless you girls who have lost your husbands. I am sure that especially at this time of year, it is so difficult and such an ache in your heart and soul.

MICHELE

I am hoping that your weather gets better so that your travels are much more comfortable.

FIONA

Good hearing you are doing fine.

CHERYL

I agree with Brenda, mysterious! Love that Brenda. We are all doing the best we can, and then we can just get on with it.

I very much remember years prior to my SP years, when I could gain 10 to 15 pounds over the holidays, and sometimes I would even begin earlier and gain more. Those were the "punish myself with food days". and my "I don't deserve to have anything good in my life days". Getting rid of those feelings, for the majority of the time at least, is even better than losing the weight. Don't misunderstand, I want more off, but the emotional baggage is so much less now.

MARY

Hope it wasn't too cold in the pool! Maybe it will warm up again for the next class. I'm not sure if I told you, but my brother and SIL moved to Houston in 1980. I have been there several times, and they have lived several places. The one I can remember is Spring I think.

Now they live on Galveston Island. They live in a home in the historic district that was built in 1895.

They have the plaque that says "survived" the hurricane of 1900. My brother thinks they will be getting one to show that they survived "Ike" as well. They had a lot of damage, and it was heartbreaking, but they are in pretty good shape now.

Houston is such a huge city. I have been there quite a few times over the years. I really enjoyed Galveston the couple of times I have been there, but know that I will be sorry to see that all of the Live Oaks will be gone when I go back.

My brother had one in his front yard, they called it "Big Al", that they lost from "Ike". The man who cut it down told him it was over 200 years old.

SAMMI

I love that you made your way to San Diego. Such a smart way to help yourself heal. You are a strong woman.

In fact, the truth is that you are all strong women, and I admire each of you in your own right.

MACI

Good job letting the stuff with your daughter go, and for making a new plan. It sounds as though Alanon would be helpful to her as well, but my guess is that at this time, she is not ready,

BRENDA

Be sure to tell your friend having the surgery tomorrow, that it was very successful for me, but it does take time. Good luck and prayers for her.

When I decide to have the new knees done, I will be the new bionic woman!

My knees seem to be better lately. When this stupid cold or whatever it is is gone, I am going back to the pool myself. They are good enough now I think that it will help instead of hurt.

MARY

I do have to package the cookies, because I do want to give them as gifts, so that way I know they are "assigned".

DALE

You are doing a great job with your walking. WOO HOO!

Have a great weekend my friends, and God Bless you all.

SAMMI,
Glad to hear about your different home bases. I was born in DC too. Kathy and I both live in Columbia which is slightly closer to Baltimore than to DC. If you ever come visit your sister here we might be able to meet. As far as Georgetown living goes, you're so right that you'd have to be loaded. I have a cousin I see frequently who lives off Connecticut Avenue further out. It takes us 40 minutes door to door.

MARY,
That IS a hoot. Speaking of silver linings, there's a new movie called Silver Linings Playbook. Keep your eyes open for it. I saw 4 great movies this season (skipping the bad review ones), which include Lincoln, The Sessions, and Life of Pi -- all 4 excellent.

I did ANOTHER double walk today. The weather was good enough for it so I figured I better get going while the going's good. Tomorrow will be an inch or two of snow so no walking then.

I'm going out tonight to listen to a Blues band at a Ribs restaurant. I'll be back home by 11, I'm sure.
Stay warm,
Dale

I had a very busy day, starting off with water aerobics for an hour. Woo-hoo, I did it! I'll go at noon tomorrow and at 4:00 on Sunday. It was cool/cold and dreary all day but I'm glad I'm home for now.

I did find a silver lining to my new dishwasher handle issue----I noticed as I looked around my kitchen that my 1999 double ovens, my 2006 fridge, and my new dishwasher all have the SAME handle---so at least now all my Kenmore appliances match! What a hoot!

Have a peaceful evening, friends.

Dale,

I was born in Washington, D.C. (my favorite place of all) lived in Maryland, Virginia, Denver (second favorite) Seattle, Scottsdale, Arizona and Crystal River, Florida (third favorite). My sister is still in Maryland. I do love Maryland -- it has so many flavors from small towns to big cities and close to D.C. I think if I were wealthy I'd live in Georgetown.

Yoga was wonderful today. I have advanced past beginner!!

Have a great rest of the day, Sammi

160.5 again

I did a double walk around Wilde Lake, and I charted my food intake for the second day, so I got the satisfaction of knowing I did right. The scale told me so (wink). But my morning coffee came out too weak and I'm sipping it anyway. I can doctor up the second cup out of the pot. Last night was NOT that good for sleeping. I forgot to take my night pills.

SAMMI,
You've lived in lovely parts of the country. How does Florida stack up to all of them? Where in Florida are you? I've been in Maryland now for 40 years, when I was fresh out of NY.

MARY,
It has to be extremely irritating about the dishwasher handle. I had my whole kitchen remodeled when I moved in here and the contractor did a sloppy job on every aspect of it. It all shows to anyone with a discerning eye. I was sick about it and fired him but not until he had totally overcharged us and done the work. (My move here was a very traumatic time for me.) I've only been in this condo for 2+ years.

MACI,
They ran out of the box of candy I wanted cause Scott waited too long to go get it. So no worries, I'll just wait until Valentine's Day when they return and get it then... What he did do was buy me a box of assorted lollypops and I told him I wish he hadn't. He brought me a large slice of pumpkin pie and a big wedge of chocolate cake, both leftovers from his Christmas. He wouldn't be sabotaging me now would he? Ahem!

About Oliver barking, he's really been trained TO bark it seems. Well, in fairness, he was a high pitched yapper when I got him. He is talking to me (and everyone else). "Oh boy oh boy you've come to my home!" "Someone's outside." "I want a toy out of the basket you keep out of my reach." "Play with me." He'll even have conversations with his toys if he's quite involved in the play. So I don't think I can break him of his loud mouth status. Just add his talking to Slyboy to play with him, too. Believe me, I've tried. "Shush!" works for one second.

Today will be another big walk. I've had intermittent trouble with leg pains for awhile and try to work it out rather than short change the walks. There's a possibility that my right hip replacement is wearing out. (That one was done in 1996 I believe.) I hope I'm wrong on this but it may be inevitable.

Enjoy your FRIDAY,
Dale

A good Friday morning here frm wet, dreary Houston! If they don't close the pool, though, I'm going to water aerobics. Then again tomorrow and Sunday....those are 90 minute classes and where I get my 'best' fitness minutes of the week.

Maci, I think your plan sounds great. You're trying to give warnings AND support but I guess your dd has to deal with her ex in her own way. I'm sure it's terribly hard to stand back and see it coming and know you really can't prevent the problmes.

Bonnnie, I'm glad you're feeling better and how great to package those cookies that way! We teachers had to make cookies for the parents the last week before the holidays. I kept 6 of them at home. My son ate most, I had a couple, and no temptation left!

Mumsy, good to know you haven't gained. I need to weigh today in prep for tomorrow's WW weigh in!

Brenda, I'm glad there's security with the 'inmates'. Here's to safety for all! I hope your friend has successful surgery. I hate back pain.

Oh, Sammi, I'm sure you did have bittersweet memories. Tomorrow will be 2 years since Dave died. I can't believe it some days. It was such a short time...5 days in the hospital. You went on to marry again! Hugs to you!

Lots to do today so I'd better get going. TGIF...

Maci, I love San Diego --- when my first husband passed away from cancer I called a trip planner (lived in Seattle at the time) and asked her to find me a place to spend Thanksgiving. She made reservations for me at the Catamarran in Mission Beach -- My first time in San Diego in 1984 --- I went every year til 2004. It was really a short trip when I was in Scottsdale and one of my favorite spots in the country. I remember I wrote I love you in the sand. Bitter Sweet memories.

Bonnie, have a good day tomorrow.

Dale, Congrats on the weight loss.

I won't get on the scale for a day or two as I've had the mean munchies for a few days because of this sudden cold spell --- it already 34 here tonight and will probably go lower.
Tomorrow is supposed to reach the mid 60s. I'm good with that.

Good night Spark Friends, Sammi

No, Maci,

I am not afraid of the inmates next door. They are just there for drug and alcohol treatment and they are not allowed to roam freely and they have armed guards. I see them out playing basketball all the time. I heard they just got a new group in. Only the workers are allowed to smoke and they have to go off the property. It's really safe here. We have camera's at the outside doors and they are all locked so no one can just walk in. Code entry at the front door, side doors require a key.

Jody, who lives downstairs is going to have back surgery in the morning to have her back fused. She is in constant pain most of the time so I hope it is successful for her.

Bonnie,

I hope you feel better soon. Nothing worse than a sinus infection.

Hi ladies, had the most wonderful day. Tennis in the morning, was Queen of the Court again! wooohooo. Do you know how great that is to be able to tell you that? It would be considered bragging to tell my tennis friends w/o them asking. teehee.

Than Annie picked me up and we went to Newport Beach to hang out w/her twin 15 yr old nieces, they were great, we walked around balboa island and ate at in &out burger. yummy! It was about 1 hr away. fun.

*Sammi- I can't handle cold "or" hot weather. Where I live it is always in the high 60's to the low 80's most the time in the 70s! We melt in the heat, and freeze in the cold!!! I live at the beach in San Diego, Calif. county.

*Mary- Well bummer you lost a drawer, but you gained anew preety dishwasher and faucet. Life is full of bummers and woohoo's!

My kids all get along too, we all see eachother almost everyday, we all watch eachothers kids, we have never had fights between us, This situation w/my DD is about her Ex and her. I have made the mistake of telling her to stick up for her court given rights and do not trust him, this holiday he choose to lie to her and had her exchange her christmas vacation time w/the kids in exchange for his, hers was first, she did it than he told her he would not honor his agreement. So he is taking the whole christmas vacation time till they go to school, she had planned to give them their santa presents the day after christmas all set up at her home, etc. she will now not see or be able to contact them until Jan 9th.

The reason she was so angry w/me is that I told her this was gonna happen, to make sure she celebrated christmas before they went to his home christmas eve, and don't trust him, she didn't listen. Now she is a hot mess and she told her kids she would see them the day after christmas. It's a hot mess, I got the brunt of her anger this time. Now, that being said "I understand her hurt, anger and frustration" but noone is gonna take it out on me! Thats the sad story. The moral of this story, Next time i say "honey call the cops or the lawyer, I am sorry this happened to you, I love you." I have not seen this kind of angry behavior from her towards me or anyone else since she was 16.

*Eliza- Good for you waiting till bkfst, Just remember You won't die between Dinner and Bkfst, even though it feels like it sometimes!
*Maryann- Welcome, please jump right in!
*Sunny- Thank you sunny!
*Brendy- I love peeps! and all those things you can have around. Do the inmates ever scare you? i hope not.

*Dale- Suggestion: Have Scott bring you a see's candy or two everyday as a daily present, then you won't be tempted to eat the whole box, like I would! What a fun treat that would be. The scale gods will keep smiling on you! I used to clap loud whenever Teddy barked when he was a pup and he was trained not to bark, some say to use a squirt bottle but the clapping startles them to stop immed. good luck w/that. My hubs was raised inOregon, and he completely agrees w/you about snow. One day is bliss, 2 days yuck! everything turns dirty, and lots of work.

Well off to snuggle w/hubs, although he may already be asleep in frount of the TV is so, a hot bath sounds fabulous!

I am doing ok. Feeling like I might be a better tomorrow.

I baked the cookies I had mixed up in the refrigerator, and my friend Amy came over to help me frost them, and then take some home. I ate a few, but the rest are in little bags on the enclosed front porch waiting for me to take them to a couple of friends, and for Aunt Betty to take the the people who pick her up for church and bring her home. I want them to know that I appreciate that.

Fixed us some dinner, and then just hanging out now.

I think that infection in my head is getting less, so that is a good sign.

Have a good day tomorrow all.

Well, 'best laid plans' aside, I do have my new dishwasher installed. Bad thing is that it has a handle sticking out across the front where my old 1985 one was flat and flush to the countertop. One of my kitchen drawers with big utensils won't open all the way now---that handle is in the way! My solution will be to move things from one drawer to another and hope that I'll be able to use the drawer for the most part. The plumber is here to put in a new faucet. He'd planned on fixing the old one to save me money. All the inside parts had corroded or broken. He said it wasn't well made and to find parts for it (made in China and bought from the old Great Indoors around 2003) he'd have to wait weeks. So I said to go ahead and put in a new one. Of course, he had to go BUY one!! Nothing's ever easy, is it? So Merry Christmas to me. I have a dishwasher and almost a faucet, lol!

emoticon Dale. Good to see the scale reducing instead of the other way around. See's candy is the best but I am glad I don't really care for it that much. I just keep a few chocolate bars just in case I want some. Still candy from last year's Halloween and Christmas. On Easter I usually buy pack of Peep's, keep them a few months and then toss them. I just think they are cute to look at.

Just rain and cold here but no icy streets.

It's very interesting looking out my window to the street behind our building. Next door is the old hospital which is now for drug and alcohol abuse programs. Men and women but they are kept apart. About every four hours most of the staff are back there standing around smoking their cigarettes. No smoking is allowed on their property. Five male cooks come out wearing their hats and aprons, then the nurses and whoever else. Guards wear red shirts so we can tell them apart. The 'inmates' don't cause us any problems but they did in the past. That problem is solved now. Many in the neighborhood put their houses up for sale. Our manager calls over there occasionally when we need gardening help or someone needs furniture moved and the guys will come over with a guard and do whatever we need. They like to volunteer here because the residents are nice to them. Sometimes the women come to work in the gardens.

160.5 (ahhhh, better)

MICHELE,
Yes there are Outback restaurants in the states. Glad you got a salad since their food is rich.

Yesterday's snow was pretty but melted already. That's the best way to have it. Enjoy the view then disappear so there's no consequences.

Yesterday I downloaded a fitness app with my girlfriend where it will remember the foods I've put in so I don't have to keep adding them. I have it on the computer and iPhone both. So since I stopped using the sparks food log, I'll see if the myfitnesspal will be more user friendly.
And since I DID record everything yesterday, the scale god smiled at me this morning.

All is well between Oliver and Slyboy except for Oliver's barking at him. He's so vocal about everything, I'm not sure how I'll train him NOT to bark at the cat. They are comfortable together so that is a real blessing. Of course my son misses him a ton.

Yesterday my girlfriend Wednesday and I visited in the house and then went to the NicA (nicotine-anonymous.org) meeting together. Afterwards we joined up with Scott for a bite at our regular hangout, the Tomato Palace. By nine o'clock I was home on my own and able to watch the Kennedy Center Honors program, which I enjoyed.

It's really windy out there today but I think I'll make it a point to walk anyway. I have a scrip to pick up at Target and I can do my emissions test any time now. I wonder if I have over two months in which to get it done, that if I do it sooner rather than later, would the renewal come to me sooner rather than later, too? Regardless, I think I'll get it done now.

Scott didn't come by during the day yesterday so I still don't know what he has for me, other than my requested box of SEES dark chocolate with nuts box. I don't expect anything else.

Enjoy your Thursday today,
Dale

There are so many highs and lows of being a parent and a sibling and the holidays really increase the drama. My sister has issues and I have watched my Mom not deal with the issues through the years. It is hard being the sister and not being able to help at all. I have a lot of respect for you Maci because it is not ever easy.

Good morning, friends. It didn't get below freezing in Houston like they predicted...at least on my side of town, but it's 40 and I'm cold! Sears is supposed to come this morning to put in my new dishwasher...and the plumber should come in the afternoon to put in a new faucet for the kitchen sink. I'm planning on a quiet day at home, then water aerobics tonight, even if I'm freezing! I'm wearing my Fitbit and got over 5,000 steps while shopping with my daughter yesterday. I'm sure it will pick up once I get back to school.

Maci, I'm so sorry for the continued family drama. I've been so lucky in that my kids, all over 30, get along with each other and with me. We enjoy each other's company and I know I'm lucky. I have lots of friends with your kind of 'issues' and it hurts a mother's heart. I hope things straighten out in HER life---that will bring peace to YOU, too! Your day with your tennis buddies sounds like fun. I'm glad you had a chnace to do that.

Bonnie, i hope you get to the doctor for the sinus infection. Try to get that 'fixed' soon! If you find that Body Store, let us know. We'll join you at the front door, lol!

Sammi, our weather was just like yours....going from mid 70's to almost freezing in a few hours. Stay warm!

Wow, Michele, biking 40 minutes is a lot for anyone but to do it in bad weather and because you HAVE to is really something!

I'm so glad you had gifts to open one way or another, Brenda. I do remember how you make your dishcloths that are so well received. I know you do so much for the people in your building, too. That's a special gift and I hope it's reciprocated at least once in a while!

Okay...I need to get going in case Sears decides to grace me with their presence early on!!

Mary

Maci, I loved that little movie, the odd life of Timothy Green -- sweet. My trigger for snacking is cold weather -- makes me want to munch --- hot weather, don't care if I eat anything.

Bonnie, hope your feeling better today.

Michele, it made me cold just thinking about riding a bike in cold weather. I didn't mind the cold when I was younger. I think it was the 19 years in Scottsdale that ruined me for being able to handle cold weather.

Brenda, good for you for buying things you really want. I did that a few Christmas' when I was single.

Hoping for a better day today. It's starting out so cold --- it was 72 yesterday morning when I went for my walk --- temp dropped all day --- this morning it's 34. BRRRRR

Have a wonderful day Spark Friends, Sammi

HI ladies it's almost 1am, i made it! I got through the munchie maddness, I can't believe it. woohoo. I started a thread in views and news (below) just for these kinds of moments. called "What's eating you, post it and your solution" So I don't hit the team greetings with so much drama. We all have drama, some worse than others, sometimes life is running smoothly, than Bam! we are head first in something that just urks us.

I added the solution part because if you write what you are gonna do to combat it, I think that it's easier to commit to it. Plus you can reflect and see how you want to handle it next time. Please feel free to use it with me! I am determined to be thinner in 2013, and one of my eating issues is that I am an emotional eater.

They say "What makes you eat, is what is eating you! " that holds true for me. I read a book about overeating, and it said that we overeaters are prone to be people pleasers, we keep the negative stuff we think and feel inside and take the feelings we don't like and stuff them down w/food. "Say it don't stuff it!" is my new motto! Even if it's only to the new thread.

*Brenda- You rock, listening so good to your son! You are my hero.
*Mich- 40 min in the freezing weather on a bike! I feel like such a wimp! Today was cold prob about 60 and I just hung out in warmies in the house. You rock too!

Both you today have shown me a better way to think, hopefully I will learn from you and do things differently next time! All you sparksisters really help me in more ways than you will ever know, in the past i would of just ate myself into next yr! Happy Holidays all!

Brenda, good for you for being such a good listener. We need more people to listen to each other rather than talk. Your son probably felt he could really talk to mom. Hope he is feeling better. I will keep both of you in my prayers.

Maci, sometimes I am like you---eating when I am stressed, & sometimes like Brenda, I can't eat at other times. When my kids or DH make me upset, yes, I eat. When it is other kinds of stress I can't eat.

Mary I'm so glad you are around here. Love to hear what goes on in your life! You may be older than me, but you are also LUCKIER than me! I hope I am blessed with as many years as you have been given. what a wonderful gift!

Bonne, how are you feeling today? better?

Today was my piano lesson & a tone chime performance at a nursing home near my pianoteacher's house. It was only 38 outside & I was freezing the whole time i was playing. . As soon as the peformance was over, I took off on my bike ( I must bike ride 40 minutes ) for home. At least the bike ride home was downhill--going to my teacher's house, it's 40 minutes uphill!

MACI,

I'm just the opposite of you. When I get upset I don't eat. Do you remember the song that goes 'You always hurt the one you love, the one you shouldn't hurt at all" I can't remember how the rest goes but I could maybe find it on UTube. Anyway that is why your daughter lashes out at you because she knows you can take it and she is in a situation she has no control over. She is crying out for help.

Now that Christmas day is over I am in a much better frame of mind. My oldest son called me last night and he was really depressed and he told me a lot of things that I never knew he did. He was rambling but I just listened to him.

There was just a 3.9 earthquake on Orcas Island, 39 feet deep, no damage. Can only get there by boat or ferry out of Seattle.

Bonnie,

I hope you feel better soon. Sounds like you need some chicken soup. Dr. Oz said today that is a sure way to cure a cold.

Bedtime for me so TTYL

Hi ladies having some trouble tonight with the hungries! had the worse eating day for the whole holiday season today, basically, I have lived off pie, cookies, and spanish rice today, + a tamale. I kept my promise not to eat after 8, but it's tough tonight.

Had an argument w/my DD tonight, about AJ of course, she got blindsided my his cruelness again and I basically told her to make sure he does not have the power to do it again to her, which ended up w/me being the brunt of the hurt/angry feelings. So I just sucked it up after hanging up on her for cursing me out and sent her a text saying "I am so sorry about the way the night went for you, I love you so much" she sent back a big apology msg. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This AJ drama is to much for anyone, and unfortunately it makes me feel really hungry. Does neg drama put you all running for the fridge too? so tonight nomatter how I choose to cope w/these feelings its time to not react by eating to calm my nerves. I can do it.

I wrote here to stop the cycle of giving myself everyexcuse to not live up to my commitment. I am going to go start a bath, write in a journal, and make sure the kitchen lights stay off! Life is to good to let the neg feelings run my life. I love my life, I love my home, I love my friends and I love my family, even this lil one who has always been abit of a challenge. When she was younger, she was the toughest lil girl you had ever seen. There was a nursery ryhmn that went "There was a lil girl with a great big curl right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good she was so,so good, and when she was bad she was horrid!" That has always fit my DD KC. She has always excelled in sports, accedemics, theatre, etc. but she is also my DD who sent me to Tough love as a teen, was sent to a bootcamp at 15. and always bucked the system, and the system has always been me. She loves me so much, but also feels the need to be defensive w/me over every subject. Oh well, this is life. She is my oldest!

Tomm i want to write that I did it!!!

I had something to say to each of you as I was catching up on the posts. However, this headache is not letting me think well enough.

Had a good Christmas Eve at my mom's with the family, and then good Christmas Day at my friend Amy's with her family. Her two children do not have much family, at least that they spend any time with, so I have always been the surrogate aunt to them both.

Had to admit today that I am sick with a sinus infection. To get through the holidays, I just kept taking the drugs to keep me going, and now today I am feeling not so good. Headache and coughing is the worst part, but have done some sneezing too.

We had snow today, so just stayed in. Planning on the doing the same tomorrow. I was supposed to sit with Ellee and Gracee tomorrow, but Angie is home, so she is going to take them. Called Chris and told her I was just not feeling up to it.

My brother called me last Sat and told me I just need to go to the new body store, and get a new body. One with a good back and knees, and sinuses that don't act crazy all of the time.
Told him, I wish.

Anyway, KATHY I am glad to see you more often. MARY, glad you have been here more too. Happy Birthday a bit late.

BRENDA Glad you bought yourself stuff. Good job.

MACI

Good for you with the alanon and holding it together.

DALE

Sounds like you are having some excitement in your life! Enjoy.

Sorry, my brain is just turning off, but please know that as I read all of the posts, I was sending prayers for each of you.

God Bless my friends.

Oh it sounds like the christmas holiday has it's good and not so good stuff added to it, My mom and I went to an Alanon mtg and it was packed. Most where feeling so lucky to be there and thanking their alanon friends for coming, most had abit of a heartbrk going on w/someone they love. It made me sad to hear about all the kid who just forget or actually choose to ignore their moms, shame on them! Some of these ladies are the kindest women I have ever met. It's scary that it is out of your control if someone decides to 86 you out of their life.

*Sammi- Hope you and hubs are feeling better today. Enjoy the storms, i love listening to the rain and wind blowing. We don't get many.
*Brenda- How fun to get things in the mail! People love their new phones, that one should be fun, they do so many things now. That is fun to find someone to give things too, i bet she loved the ham, I know I would. That's one of my fav things to eat. Good choice about the cookies/cinn rolls thing, for many reasons.

*Dale- Wow that is a surprise! Just clip slyboys nails off at the ends if he'll let you, it will help him not things caught w/them . Hope you get in a good nap today, I have been drowsing off and on all day. I say "take the great moments and enjoy them" Inc your fun friends plans!

*Mary- Happy bday to you!!! Your fitbit sounds fun, your teacher friends will help you if you can't figure it out, they are used to teaching people to do things, don't ask anyone young, they prob. won't have the patience. How fun you got to do the wedding lunch thing, I loved when I was doing things like that for my DD;s weddings. Are you still having to pay for them? Oh can it get expensive, We married off 5 kids. 5 of them girls.
2 babies at once. OMG I couldn't do it. My girls were 16 mos apart and I spent lots of days crying in the backyard. (my mom taught me to do that when I got overwelmed) she said put them in their cribs and go cry in the backyard when things get tough. What a grt mom you are.
When hubs drinks to much (which isn't often, thank god) he actually gets really loud, mushy, and lovey. He wants to hug and kiss me, it doesn't matter who is around. ugg! I just hate the smell. Luckily christmas eve he just leaned against the backwall and smiled!

*Mich- i love eating a stk at outback. yum!
*Kathy- Miss ya girl, glad you ckd in w/us, join the challenge!

Today woke up to rain, that meant "No Tennis" so I invited my tennis buddies over for lunch and movie, I made spanish rice and we had tamales left over from christmas eve, We watched one of my fav movies "the odd life of timothy Green" it was so good. Than hubs came home, he is making a turkey sand right now in the kitchen. Tonight looks like another day w/o exercise, but the plan is to wake up and play a tennis match than head to the OC (orange cty) to ride w.Annie to see the lit up boats w/her nieces. Life is good. unfortunately today was my worst junk eating day off the season, I woke up and ate the extra candy/cookies left over from christmas. OH Well I did preety good this season thanks to you spark buddies!

No, Michelle, we didn't get any snow in our area but they got some three miles away. Such hype from the weather forecasters saying we could get four inches so everyone ran to the grocery store. I always do when I hear 'snow' whether I need anything or not. I just might! Four inches isn't very much unless you live in a hilly area of town like I do. Add the temperature drop and ice forms and everyone is slipping and sliding and crashing.

Mary, I am so glad you had such a good time and a very full day. Yes, I so enjoyed buying myself what I wanted that I don't really need. It is a good feeling to be able to do that since I moved here. I got two gifts this year, both Christmas related and that is my pet peeve. I just told them 'thank you very much' and put them away to give to someone else. It really is the thought that counts that someone cared enough to give me something. I always give away crocheted cotton dish cloths that I make when I need a gift.and people love them. This year is the first time I have had a gift to open on Christmas day since my husband had his stroke in 2006. I am a giver and am constantly giving away things that people say they need if I have one on hand. Not bragging, that is just what I do.

Oh, y';all are so sweet! I had a lovely day today. My kids took me out to lunch. We tried a restaurant the younger son and his fiance were thinking about having the rehearsal dinner at (I know...a teacher shouldn't end sentences with prepositions, lol!) and we loved the Thai food so we solidified it, set the time and date and it's done!! Then my daughter and I spent the afternoon looking for a big chair for the nursery so she can nurse both babies at once. I've told her they may not adhere to HER schedule but she's super organized like her dad was and she's decided that these little girls will do as she wishes. Ha ha, does she have a thing or two coming, lol! It was so much fun today but I'm tired and ready to get back to my old schedule.

Yes, Dale, it was an unexpected gift to have Chris here. He was recently given a promotion and Houston was added to his Ausin/San Antonio territory so he'll be coming here at least once a month. I'm glad you had a chance to visit with your son. And it looks like you've gained a new cat in the bargain!

Brenda, I was grinning from ear to ear----way to go, making your own Christmas gift extravaganza be exactly what you wanted (and ordered, lol!) When I can't sleep, which is very often, I love to see what people are buying on tv...i'm afraid if I ever got started I might enjoy it too much! I'm proud of all you've 'weathered' over the years. You are strong, too!!

Thanks, Michele...yes, we['re close---but I'm much older, so you're safe! I loved your FB family picture!!

thank you, too, Sammi...I hope you stay safe and warm! Our temps dropped to 32 this morning and should be 30 tomorrow.

Hooray--Sears called and they will come early tomorrow (so they say) to put in my dishwasher! All in all, a lovely Christmas time with friends and family.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! I was alone on Christmas day as it is not a holiday here; i went to the pool. I must admit it was the very first time that I have every been alone on Christmas day DH & my oldest son, ben had to work. Middle son Christopher & daughter Annie Rose were in school.

I did get to celebrate on the 23rd with my husband's family as we were honoring his mom who died 3 years ago on Christmas Eve day. It was very nice. I had a salad at the Outback restaurant (do they still have that restaurant there?) so I felt very good about myself!

Sammi, you & your husband are in my daily prayers.

Mary, a belated happy birthday to you! My birthday is also on the 18th--so we are very close, aren't we?!

Maci, your famly celebrations sound wonderful! Until last year, we also did such things here, too.

Brenda did you ever get some snow?

Dale, I miss those snowy Christmases! I am originally from the Detroit area, & we always had snow!

Have a goodrest of the week, ladies!

Enjoy that lunch! How nice to hear you have your son there for two whole weeks. I got two hours and was grateful.

161 emoticon Our morning snow was beautiful but now is turning to slush.

I had dinner upstairs at Mom's last night so the food was really healthy and tasty. It was a pleasant enough day since my son was here for the first couple of hours. Today is non pressure too.

Scott wants to come by with gifts for me at some point, and my girlfriend Wednesday wants to get together after a doctor appointment later in the afternoon. We planned on going to NicA together and spending the evening in each others company, but I don't know if our weather will change her mind about the evening part.

Sharon has returned from her trip to Buffalo NY late morning today to work from home, so I have jazz playing in the living room to give the house ambiance.

Slyboy (my son's cat) is cool, so I don't think there will be that much of a change here in the house. I'm just curious how well Oliver will be able to play ball since the cat also wants to chase things. And now there's the meowing to add to the barking when either wants to communicate. (And the constant cleanup of cat LITTER!!!) I wonder how long it will take the animals to play together and what that will look like.

Mary, I know you had a very Happy Birthday. You have many blessings and new ones on the way. Babies are so much fun.

We didn't get any snow in our area, just a little rain. My friend lives three miles away up on the hill close to the hospital and all they got was slush.

Today I should get the Wolfgang Puck Immersion Blender pack (red) that I ordered last week. It was in Oregon yesterday. Last week I got a red Wolfgang Puck ceramic coated iron griddle with handles on each side in red. Cool. It was the deal of the day on HSN. I love pretty gadgets and it is fun to buy them for myself. Friday my new cell phone will be here. I use the pay as you go phones as I don't like to have a surprise bill. This one is a Tracfone with a camera, video recorder and sound, triple minutes for life, internet access and some other things all for $50. I have a Net 10 phone that is six years old and wearing out. I plan to cancel my land phone as I don't use it much anyway and will save $40 a month.

Mary, you have come a long way in the last year. It has taken me almost seven years to come out of my funk. Life is good! Actually, yesterday was a good day and my oldest son called me last night. Mostly I listen to him.

Watching the news this morning with all the storms across the states is very scary for those in harms' way.

Brenda, I'm so sorry your children are so hard hearted. I'm sure that's a heavy burden. I can certainly see how this is a terrible day for you. But you did as you pleased and that was right for you, having a quiet lunch in your own place. It's a shame that your friend's daughter isn't very nice. She could have been good company today, maybe!

Maci, a Fitbit is a new kind of pedometer. Several of the teachers at my school have them. They're very small and can sync up iwth the computer. Somehow you can get it synced (is that a word?!) to spark people, too. I am technologically challenged but I did get it all squared away. it measures steps, calories, and several other things. I also got a few apps put on my iPad and started playing around with it. I'm very easily intimidated, lol. I'm sorry your husband was out of control. Mine got that way once in a while and it was always scary. They turn into different people, don't they?

Dale, I hope you get your dinner with your mom. I just talked with mine. Today would have been my daddy's 91st birthday. He passed away right after Thanksgiving last year, less than a year after my husband. My mother got to go to church with one of my sisters and spent lunchtime with several sisters and my niece[---a lovely day for her. Enjoy your time with your son. One of mine has been here for 2 weeks and goes back to Austin tomorrow. It's been fun to have more that a passing time with him.

Sammi, I'm sorry your husband's condition is so serious. I'm sure it's hard on both of you.

May you each have a quiet and peaceful night!

Mary

All in good time...and with the help of my friends.

Today: I pray to shift the way I approach life, to move deliberately and consciously, to become attentive.

At some point you realize that life is just that: life. Ups, downs, good, bad, it's all just life. It all balances out, and letting every little bump in the road sideline you is no way to live.
