We are into a New Year so will look for a new thread....LOL!

Just wanted to stop in and wish you all the very best year in all areas of your lives...not just our health & fitness.

Laurie, a good friend is having the same issues with people consistently commenting on her fitness routines and food intake. I told her to chalk it up to jealousy or some inadequacy that the other person is feeling when they make such snide comments. Those remarks get OLD after a while. I told her to use a "zero tolerance" with them...LOL!

I was aware of the importance of the muscles that comprise the shoulders. We do carry weight on them so they need to stay strong.

Yanks, see you in 2013 in a new thread!!

Pamela...Central Texas

I won’t complain about “aging” because we have no control over that, but, none of us should allow our bodies to decay/rot which is all voluntary. It is up to each of us to do three things: exercise, use good nutrition, and commit to something or someone that brings us joy daily for the rest of our lives. Yes, I'm pleased with my scale. I got it at the free store and only had to buy a battery for it ($5). Next month I'll weigh in once a week.
Town day today, so no formal exercise.

Goal no snacks after 9pm.-----okay.
Goal weight maintenance-----okay.
Goal to track food intake-----okay
Goal not to exceed 2100-2400 calories---okay
Goal to burn off 5000 calories weekly so far 5128.

This am I started to assist a friend who wants to run a half marathon in May. It's his first event and he chose a most difficult one. I'll school him as much as possible, then the rest will be up to him. I told him to take it easy, keep a level pace, and things will work out. So this morning we jogged for 4 miles, he did great.
Laurie , it looks as though you nailed the month of December, and your new scale is really something else. emoticon

Yanks, could the weight gain be from drinking water during the workout? Or it could be one of life's mysteries.
Pamela, I never thought the shoulders were that much of a big deal, but then I read that they constitute a major muscle mass, and therefore more shoulder muscle = higher metabolism = more weight loss. I guess it makes sense when you look at a muscle chart--so many muscles!--and when you think about all they do. So enjoy!
I'm going to do my official month-end weigh-in on the 28th, which was today. It looks like I lost 6.5 pounds, but I don't think it was really that much. This was a transition month, between getting my own scale and weighing at a different time of day. However, I know my body is getting stronger and better!

Fri - Wooosaaaah...lol...it was CLX Lean Circuit 3 this morning focusing on the shoulders, chest, back, core & glutes. I believe that Chalene Johnson loves working our shoulders...whew! Weights in use today were 5, 7.5, 10 lbs. There were also push-up moves and an army crawl in this workout. My workout week is complete!

Yanks, maybe one day I will get a gadget that keeps track of all kinds of fitness stats. I've read and heard that FitBit is an excellent tool. WoooHooo...on meeting or exceeding your goals. You have just a few more days to go before December 2012 is over.

Laurie, glad you found a way to meditate again.

Wishing each of you a great day!

Goal-----To Post all food consumption-----okay.
Goal-----Not to exceed 2100--2400 calories daily---okay
Goal-----No snacks after 9pm---okay.
Goal----Weight management---okay---This morning I weighed in at 159.8 ( after my workout)
Did you know that sometimes I actually gain weight after a workout, go figure.
Goal----To burn 5000 calories weekly---so far this week 4212.

About this calorie thing, as you folks know Spark only includes cardio with the calorie burning count, The fitbit includes everything, so for instance today Spark had me down for 1052 calories burnt. Where the fitbit has me down for 1694, however I'm only using the Spark # in my count. emoticon

The rain let up long enough for a walk up the Big Hill.
I hope to download the DVD maker this weekend, so I might meet my "make one new DVD" goal yet!
I found a new way to make myself meditate: I don't allow myself to check in here until I've done my evening sitting meditation. (Body scan in the afternoon is optional, and it's an excuse to lie down.)

Yanks, looks like you're right on schedule--as usual!

Thu - Cardio today using Leslie Sansone's Walk Fast 5 Miles DVD where I completed the first two miles (30 mins). It felt great to give my muscles a break especially after yesterday's strength training session...wooosaaah :)

Yanks & Laurie, you are such great supporters and I really appreciate the way you have shared your ideas/goals with each of us. I am going to do some deep thinking on goals for 2013.
Oh wow about the long lines to see the movie Lincoln. I will probably wait for the blu-ray disc.

Yes, I'm getting all psyched up for losing at least 2 pounds a month next year. Nice to see/read all the inspiring examples of what we can do if we really want to.
Hoping the rain-rain-snow-rain will quit soon so I can do 2 more walks up the Big Hill before the end of the month. I might just have to go out and get wet emoticon .

Hi Team! We don't have long to wait until 2013 is upon us...wow! let's make the last few days of December count in a big way towards reaching or nearing our goals.

Yanks, you already know that the things you do with regards to your health and fitness are worthwhile. If you are getting bore, it is time to change up your routines. Laurie gave some great suggestions & advice. You got a great Christmas gift, too!

Laurie, you have really put in a lot of fitness minutes so far this month even exceeding your December goal.

***

Tue - Christmas and a rest day...yay!!

Wed - CLX Lean Circuit 2 done...a 39 minute strength workout focusing on the shoulders & back including the legs. Weights used were 5, 7.5, 10, 15 lbs. This was a challenging workout because shoulders are my weaker area. I have to use the smaller weights to keep proper form and not injure myself. The heaviest weight was used while doing squats...not for the shoulders...heehee.

Thanks newagain but I did end up eating after 7 last night. I went shopping and was a little late getting back. I weight a pound less today so I guess I burned some calories while I was shopping. We went to several stores. Sounds like you are doing a great job with your workout!

Pamela, wow, starting on a different day to make up for a holiday--that's dedication. I'm a lot more free wheeling. One reason is that my work is feast or famine and very unpredictable; another is that some days I just feel low for no obvious reason. Thank you for your support. Today I went to a dinner and someone commented that something wasn't good for me. I chose to let it go. I guess it's partly about who says it--like when I feel betrayed by someone who I thought cared about me, or feel put down by someone who I thought respected me. It's all a learning experience.
Yanks, I think I can relate. I used to spend 2.5 hours a day at the gym. I got results, but I also got burnt out in about 6 months. I wonder if you're becoming "too efficient" at what you do, and not challenging enough muscles. Are you getting enough variety? Have you tried a daily, weekly, and/or monthly rotation of various kinds of exercises? If you want to stay mainly with cardio, there are still many different things you can do--everything from dancing to swimming to ... you tell me! Maybe you can put one of those big trampolines in your back yard. Walk around on it for half an hour, and you'll feel muscles you didn't know you had. I'm sure you know all this, but maybe something I've said will be helpful. I know you'll figure it out!
I try to avoid most of the Christmasy goings-on, but I did go to another dinner today. My diet is down the tubes! It's like mass hysteria: Let's all eat unhealthy stuff because, well, because everybody's doing it. In a way I'm looking forward to getting my boring humdrum life back. At least I don't have any no-nos in the house, so there is hope.
Other than that, I'm still working and will probably be up all night. This doesn't usually happen, but the dinners and so on are throwing me off schedule.
No exercise today, no meditation, didn't stick to my diet. What more can I say?

Sun - Started my week workout a day earlier than ususal because of Christmas on Tuesday. CLX Lean Circuit 1 was as challenging as I remembered. It is about 45 minutes long focusing on biceps, triceps, core, and legs. The weights that I used were 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 lbs. I did tricep push-ups with 6 on toes and 6 on knees. A great workout!

Well, well, well…today (Sunday) starts a new fitness week so here goes my plan. It will be CLX Lean Circuits to work upper and lower body simultaneously. This has always been an extra tough circuit for me because of trying to keep a proper form while doing these exercises with weights. It is quite possible that I will need to lower the size of the weights, too.

Sun – CLX Lean Circuit 1 (biceps, triceps, core, legs…45 minutes)
Mon – Cardio
Tues (Christmas) – Rest Day
Wed – CLX Lean Circuit 2 (shoulders, back, legs…39 minutes)
Thu – Cardio
Fri – CLX Lean Circuit 3 (chest, shoulders, back, core, glute…39 minutes)

Laurie, I just love reading about your new "attitude" dealing with folks that make sly negative comments regarding your how you eat now and your exercising...keep standing your ground!

Wishing each of you Happy Holidays & a Merry Christmas this week!

Pamela...Central Texas

Saturday 22 December:

5/6 times Tom Holland Total Workout 2 DVD
1285/1200 home exercise minutes (including the above)
4/6 times up the Big Hill
18/28 days Atkins way of eating (allowing 3 cheat days)
300/400 minutes meditation
22/31 days zero tolerance for criticism of my weight or weight loss efforts

End of December goals:
2 pounds lost (December start 190, goal 188)
Do 2 consecutive "real" Dreya rolls
Make one new DVD of dance/exercise music

Enjoyed finding some great new music and having a long exercise session this evening. I've been neglecting my meditation though. Hmm.
Today I tried to give away some syrup because it isn't on my diet. The person said I should keep it until I recover from my madness (i.e., my diet). I said please don't ridicule my diet, because it works for me. So great to speak up about such comments instead of feeling bad for hours or days (and eating because I feel bad)!

Great goals Julena! Good luck--let us know how it goes.
Yanks, congratulations on the weight loss. 1075 is a lot of crunches. Sounds like you did other core exercises too, to balance things out.
Pamela, wow, I'm still impressed with your workouts.
I had an extra day of diet cheating today. Just a small treat, but I have to count it. This really is the season of yummy food, isn't it?
I'm still working on the Dreya rolls, but I don't think I'll ace them this month. As for the DVD, it looks like I'll have to pay money for the right DVD maker program, and it isn't in the budget right now. I believe I will make my weight goal though.

Yanks, you've done excellent with the caloric weekly burn goal, weight management, and others set for December! You did HOW many crunches??? Can you even stand up straight??? You have a STRONG core for sure.

Fri - CLX Push Circuit 3 done this morning...pure strength training using dumbbells (11.25, 12.5, 13.75, 16.25, 18.75, 20, 21.25 lbs) for the chest, back, & legs. A really great 35 minute workout!

Wed - Push Circuit 2 was SHOULDERS, arms & legs using various dumbbells (5, 7.5, 10, 12.5) for a 35 minute strength session. I hate shoulder work but mine do look nice in sleeveless or strapless tops...LOL!

Thu - CLX Burn It Off was done this morning...a high intensity interval type of cardio workout for about 28 minutes...gets your heart rate up then brings it down...athletic type of exercises...left me drenched at the half-way point..LOL

Laurie, so sorry to hear you all lost power and hope it returns soon. Rain & high winds hit our area around 4am....the gusty winds are still here. It was shaking the window screens something terrible, too. I am thankful that we had no power loss. Sounds like you did have a nice time at the dinner. WTG on that zero tolerance to the ex-bf...heehee

Yanks, sometimes I look for that endorphin to kick in, too. Today was one of those days when I searched eagerly for it...LOL!

Julena, much success on your eating nothing AFTER 7pm.

Wednesday 19 December:

4/6 times Tom Holland Total Workout 2 DVD
1065/1200 home exercise minutes (including the above)
4/6 times up the Big Hill
16/28 days Atkins way of eating (allowing 3 cheat days)
300/400 minutes meditation
19/31 days zero tolerance for criticism of my weight or weight loss efforts

End of December goals:
2 pounds lost (December start 190, goal 188)
Do 2 consecutive "real" Dreya rolls
Make one new DVD of dance/exercise music

Snow and high winds knocked out the power this morning, but I did 90 minutes of exercise during daylight hours to help stay warm. My ex-bf (one of the people who "inspired" my zero-tolerance policy) came over while I was exercising. He asked what I meant to achieve with a particular exercise (so he could show me a better way, I suppose). I thought for a second and said, "I don't need help with this." Yay me!
Power is back on now. Good luck everyone!

Pamela, I'm glad you enjoyed your walking workout. Sounds like you had fun planning your exercise for the week too.
I had my seasonal pig-out on Sunday (and take-homes on Monday). It was tasty but probably not worth it, and after a couple of days without exercise I could feel various parts of my body seizing up. At the dinner a couple of people commented on how good I looked, as in physically. Exercise really does pay off--slowly but surely.

Yanks, ohhh the delicious smell of piping hot chocolate chip cookies....yummmmm! You have a strong constitution only eating "ONE".....that's almost like eating ONE potato chip....tough. Proud of you! Looks like you are doing good moving towards those goals.

Tue - Completed Leslie Sansone's 4 Fast Miles Walk for cardio (52 mins). Once you hit that 30 min threshold it feels like the endorphins kick in making one feel absolutely marvelous...LOL!

Hi Team!

Laurie, yep...I do have to use lighter weights when working the shoulders. How was that dinner? Hope you slept better, too.

Yanks, sounds like a soothing kind of run/walk for you....those kind of workouts make me feel better when something is weighing heavily on my mind & soul, too. (((hugs)))

JSTETSER, wishing you great success in the job search and you have great goals.

*****

I spent Saturday & Sunday working outdoors in our west & north fields. No less than 2-3hrs was spent lifting fencing poles (metal, wood) and walking them at least 200-400 feet multiple times!! I got a good upper and lower body workout doing this. I am definitely going to call this a total body workout (strength, cardio).**

I sat here for a few minutes this morning working on this week’s exercise routine and came up with the plan shown below.

Sun – official rest day
Mon – CLX Push Circuit 1 (arms, legs)…33 mins
Tue – Cardio…30+ mins
Wed – CLX Push Circuit 2 (shoulders, arms, legs)…35 mins
Thu – Cardio…30+ mins
Fri – CLX Push Circuit 3 (chest, back, legs)…35 mins
Sat – Cardio…30+ mins

Mon - Push Circuit 1 was tough this morning. I hadn't done this routine since back in October? It's focus was arms & glutes/legs with the use of various dumbbells (10, 11.25, 12.5, 13.75, 18.75, 20) and slow slow push-ups. Definitely got a cardio effect with using the heavier weights, too.

Yanks, congratulations on burning off the calories for this week. It looks like you're doing well with your other goals as well.
I had an insomnia attack last night so was not feeling energetic today; I'm relaxing with a couple of movies this evening. Tomorrow is the big feast day, but I might get some exercise in. Looking forward to eating some XXX at the dinner.

Thanks Pamela. Do you need to use lighter weights for the shoulder exercises?
I thought I had updated my tracker and weight to both say 190, but the weight still said 180; I hope it's all sorted out now.

Laurie - the day is coming when you will conquer the Dreya Roll!!

Friday - CLX Burn Circuit 3 (glutes/legs, shoulders & arms) was challenging because of the combination type of exercises (working upper & lower body simultaneously). The shoulders are one of my weaker areas especially using dumbbells overhead. This was a 45 minute session in which I used 5, 7.5, 10, and 11.25 sized dumbbells.

Thank you, Yanks. I'm ahead now, but maybe not later. I exercise more on the days I don't have any work, because other days I'm either "too busy" or just not feeling like it. I don't know whether the meditation helps or not. I do find that I'm becoming tougher regarding all abuse, not just weight remarks. I've been too wimpy in my life sometimes.
Hi BFerrell! You can do it!
Pamela, that looks like some workout. Turns out the dinner is Sunday, not Friday. I'll let you know how it goes.
If I'm going to lose 30 pounds in a year I need to make some more changes. I've resolved to cut back on my coffee cream. Also, I used wrist and ankle weights this evening for my walking workout; it raised my heart rate a little.

Hey Hey Hey Team!!

BFerrell, you are moving forward with your goals so far this month...keep moving that body.
Yanks, you are doing well with your goals, too. I am rooting for you to be 160 by New Years!!
Laurie, have a good time at the community dinner this Friday. LOL...maybe something will not only look delicious but taste it? Let us know about that...heehee.

Until I get a digital scale, I will go with the number on MY scale versus the doc's office...LOL.

***

Tuesday - This was an official rest day but I did a LOT of back & forth walking around 3 acres most of the day.

Wednesday - This was another challenging morning with focus on arms, hamstrings & legs in the CLX Burn Circuit 2. I used various dumbbells again (11.25, 13.75, 15) and a set of "triple threat" push-ups. Another intense 38 min strength session.

This Friday is the annual community dinner, and the desserts always look so wonderful. I was planning on cheating, but I suspect that nothing will taste as good as it looks. Hmm.

Yanks, thank you for the lovely workout clothes (just my size too). Good luck with your goals this week!
Pamela, I've been weighing myself at the medical clinic for months, and that's the scale that was wrong. It wasn't the official doctor-type scale (I assume they have one of those), but an analog scale that was in the bathroom at the clinic. Or maybe that really is the one they weigh their patients on. I guess the digital scales really are better. Your schedule this week looks great.
I don't mind the wake-up call. I like to know the truth. I looked at some of my previous info, and basically I have been the same weight and had the same goals for about 4 years. Time to get moving and get some results! Thank you for your support.

Okay Laurie, you just scared me because I have an analog scale which is usually 6lbs less than the one at the doc's office (still not digital). I tend not to focus on the number on scales so much but I do understand how seeing that difference can affect one's mind. If you decide to tweak your workouts and/or diet, you already know how to do that so that is a positive.

I am going to do most of Week 1 of CLX Burn Phase schedule this week. I did the complete program back in Jan 2010 and have incorporated some of the dvds in my rotations since.

S- rest day
M- Burn Circuit 1 (chest, legs, shoulders, arms, abs…36 mins)
T- rest day
W- Burn Circuit 2 (arms, hamstrings, legs…38 mins)
Th- Burn Intervals (cardio, strength endurance…46 mins)
F- Burn Circuit 3 (glutes/legs, shoulders, arms…45 mins)
S- Burn It Off! (cardio...27 mins)

Monday - It was challenging this morning with focus on legs, chest, shoulders, arms, & obliques using various dumbbells (7.5, 10, 12.5, 13.75, 15, 17.5) plus two different types of push-ups. This was an intense 36 minute strength session.

Laurie, so it looks as though you have a true barometer, so now you are more aware of what you have in front of you. Please take this as a positive , this is a set back that you can overcome, emoticon

Sunday 9 December:

3/6 times Tom Holland Total Workout 2 DVD
500/1200 home exercise minutes (including the above)
1/6 times up the Big Hill
8/28 days Atkins way of eating (allowing 3 cheat days)

Pamela, I sure understand. I was in West Virginia with a choice between dial-up or spending hundreds of dollars a month on satellite Internet. Now I have mobile Internet (based on cell phone technology). It is kind of expensive (I'm in Canada, and I usually pay around $80 a month, and I have to be careful to keep my usage down or it goes through the roof). But I also use it to text and phone for next to nothing, so I don't need a cell phone or land line. No I'm not assuming you're within cell phone range--just sayin. Way to go on 58 minutes of kickboxing.

Well, my weight loss challenge has taken on new proportions. I'll spare you the story, but it turns out I don't weigh 180, I weigh 190! So I have to lose 30 pounds (not 20) in the next year. That will be a challenge! But I've done it before, and with all the support and good examples I get here, I know I can do it again.

I have a digital scale now. I also got 2-pound weights, which I needed.
Have a nice week everyone!

Yanks, thanks for the compliments on my profile pic...missing those grands already...lol.

Laurie, I guess it was a "taste test" with those two small off-diet treats..heehee. I would love to check out that video but my ISP is backwoods (dial-up) right now...LOL! I had to adjust to losing DSL to no DSL when we moved to this rural area back in 2010. They do offer satellite internet with a premium price...uggggh.

Saturday - Done with my workout week ending with Kenpo X (kickboxing...approximately 58 minutes)!

My brother gave me 2 small off-diet treats today, and I'm happy to say that (a) I was able to stop at 2 small treats, and (b) they weren't that great, so I know I'm not missing much by sticking to my diet.
I happened upon this video today:

Friday - Completed CLX Lower Body Extreme Zone working every muscle below the belly button. Used a 10lb weight whenever weights were required. Approximately 41 mins.

BFerrel, I am glad to hear that Pay Flex issue was resolved in your favor.

Everyone, have a great day and keep moving those bodies and remember to rest, too.

Another rest day for me. No aches or pains, just tired. Now that I've added the posture exercises (20 minutes), I think I need to tweak my exercise plan a bit so I don't wear myself out. 80 minutes of exercise seems to be my daily limit.
Way to go, everyone!

Hi team!

Laurie - thanks for the compliments on my family pic. Our soninlaw took that pic right before me and the hubby were heading back home from visiting with the grand boys and parents last weekend.

BFerrel - I bet you get things figured out with that Pay Flex system...I'm not familiar with it. Just think of them while you do some intense kickboxing.

Yanks - rest is good! You work out so hard.

*****

Thursday - This morning was another cardio day with power-walking again outdoors for 42 minutes. I was able to shave off 6 minutes of time while walking the exact same path and laps as done on Tuesday morning! I must have been zooming...LOL...but enjoyed listening to Whitney Houston's Christmas music through my Zune.

Hi Team! Everyone is doing it well so far this week.

Maci - like your goals and love the one of showing gratitude. You are off to a great way of ending the year and kick starting 2013!

Laurie - yeah, getting some outdoor air does my mind gooood...lol.

Well it looks as though we are off to a good start, Maci to share an attitude of gratitude is a remarkable goal, I'm going to keep that in mind as I approach and end each day.

my goal for Dec, is to stay connected to sparks! Plus start 2013 in the 150's instead of the 160's. (like last yr)
I will do this by doing my dailys, sparks, jems, vitamins, exercise, and only F&V;s after 8pm.
I will do my best not to binge eat anything during this time, and not get into the sugar like yrs past.
I will trust that if I slip I can get right back up and be at least 90%. That is still an A!
I vow to be a wife, mom, daughter filled w/gratitude for the family around me this season.

Laurie - finding the extra minutes to add to fitness each day is great!

Tuesday - Cardio was a 50 minute power-walk outdoors around the inner 2 acres of the yard. I made 10 laps followed by a cool down & stretch.

Hi P_Queen! That's a lovely well-rounded group of goals. Good luck getting off your plateau (maybe changing your name would help?).

Nice challenges Pamela and BFerrell. Good luck!
I found some posture exercises--that should add about 10 or 15 minutes to my exercise routine every day. Health maintenance has become a part-time job in itself. At least I never have to say I have nothing to do!

Hi Team! I made it over here and went back to finish updating my final workouts of November, too. Wishing each of you much success with those goals!

December Goals:
1. 1000 exercise minutes
2. 6 days/wk workout sessions
3. No weight gain or lose pounds
4. Design weekly workout rotation

Fitness routine for Dec 3 to Dec 8:

M - CLX Push Circuit 3 (Chest,Back & Legs...35 mins)
T - Cardio
W - P90X Shoulder & Arms (30 mins of 60 mins DVD)
Th - Cardio
F - CLX Lower Body Extreme Zone (40 mins)
S - Cardio

Completed CLX Push 3 this morning working the chest, back & legs for 35 minutes using different sized dumbbells. It felt great to lift 10, 12.5, 15, 20lbs

(excerpt from Next Year Younger For Women book). My new motto!
