The holidays will come back again next year, so you don't have to eat everything this year. I give myself permission to have some special things I really like but stay away from other things. Also, it is harder to control your eating when you are in a group, so don't try to keep up. Be sure to log in every day at least once, journal all of your food, and post on at least one team every day. I am certain you can choose what is best for your. Have a great holiday

I am having a hard time with these message boards. Not real good with computer. Yeh , I met my inital goal I am down 20 pounds I am very nervous with Thankgiving and Christmas I will put it right back on. I have had to work twice as hard to get to this point. It is going to be very hard to be around all the food.
It helps me to check in with Spark People every day and to participate in several goals and challenges (who knew it was so gratifying to get to click a box?). Starting out the day with these goals in mind help me to stay on track (or gives a fresh start when I've eaten too much). I wish I had words of wisdom for someone who gains the same 20 pounds over and over (that would be me), but maybe this is the last time!

I agree with Nanago. I joined SP last month and I CANNOT BELIEVE the difference SP has made in my life! (Check out my SparkPage for details of my journey.)
Today my Dr asked for the SP info so he could start referring people !!!! He is so impressed that I've lost 13 pounds if 6 weeks! His mouth dropped and he had to go back thru his chart notes twice!!! It was funny!!!!
If you believe you can do it, and you set that as your goal, you can't help but succeed with SparkPeople!

Thanks Nanago for the inspiration. I am tracking my food and activity. I agree that portion control is where it's at. I had dinner tonight on a sandwich plate instead of a large dinner plate. I'm going to try to do this for the next week. Wish me luck!

When I started using SparkPeople in April I wanted to lose 17 pounds. I was actually quite skeptical about my ability to lose much of anything at 59 years old. I had asked a friend how she had lost her weight and she said "Portion control! Portion control! Portion control!" So, I went online looking for a place to track my eating and found SparkPeople. I'd been working at eating healthy for along time but after faithfully tracking for a bit I could see that I'd just been eating too much...and still not enough fresh vegetables and fruit. Since April I have slowly watched my weight decrease and have now lost 18 pounds. It has even given me confidence that I can lose the rest of what I thought was never going to happen...ever again...and have reset my goal. Because I was so skeptical I was actually surprised every time a pound...or some times two...would be gone. So, just do it patiently and don't watch it too closely and you too will be surprised! Welcome to the team!
