Bonnie, hope your knee & sinus infections clear up. I have allergies that send me to the ENT dr. once a month. If I don't go, I get bad headaches.

Sandi, I'm so glad to hear you are ok. I know exactly how you are feeling---we went through the exact same problems after our earthquake last year! It takes time to work out such stuff. I really needed patienence!

Fiona, it's good to hear from you.

Maryja good to hear from you, too. If you try Brenda's pizza recipe, let me know. I'd like to try it too!

Not much is going on t oday. Just resting & doing my cross stitiching since I can't move around very much. I will not be able to make the 12/12/12 goal now. Very disappointed about that!

Have a good weekend, all!

SANDI

Glad to hear from you and know you are ok. Well, as Ok as you can be under the circumstances. Glad you have the electricity back on at least. I have been watching about the gas stations. That is going to make it very hard to get things going again, I suspect.

God Bless all of you there.

FIONA
I can't get the thread to come up either. I wish I had more computer savy.

Had my injections in my knees today. Dr said that my left knee is just bone on bone. He said that if these injections don't help, that there are others that put fluid back into your joing that I would have to get from an orthopedic surgeon. I do have a good one from when I tore the miniscus in my left knee, but I am hoping that these will do the trick.

He also said that we can get me through until I have Medicare in less than two years.

Got my flu shot, and had my yearly blood work done. Gave me a prescription for a shingles shot. I guess they are quite expensive, so I am going to check with my insurance next week about getting one.

He also told me something that I found interesting. The shingles shot has to be kept frozen, that is why he does not have any in the office.

He is pleased about the weight I have lost. This morning before breakfast I was a 277, just one pound up from my weight on my tracker. Of course after eating breakfast on his scale I was up a bit, but still under 280. He said that is where I was 2 years ago. I will get there one day at a time.

Hoping that with these injections, I can exercise more without pain, and get back in the grove But, I am NOT gaining what I had lost for the 12/12/12 challenge. May not quite make 12 pounds, but am going to make a few more anyway.

My car did not come in today, so hoping it will tomorrow. We will see.

Have had a bad sinus headache since I came home this afternoon. Nothing is touching it.

Maybe when I go to sleep, it will go away for morning.

God Bless my friends. Talk to you tomorrow.

Finally got power back today. Made it through the storm with relatively little damage. Getting gas is a major problem. Many stations have run out and those who do have it have long lines.

Michelle,

I'm just going in for a check up this morning to talk to my doctor about the anxiety meds he prescribed to help me sleep. Well, I took one and got very anxious, then sleepy, went to bed, slept an hour and then was awake the rest of the night so I never took another one. I think I would rather not sleep than to go through that again. I am sleeping better on my own lately. Other than that I don't have any medical issues.

Marija,

If you send me your address via Spark Mail I will send you the pizza recipe I have that is very good and easy to make. It is one my guardian gave me many years ago. I have never had New York pizza but I bet it is really good.

It turned out to be a blessing that you moved to WA DC or you would have been right in the midst of the devastation.

One thing that is really irking me is that the Mayor has decided to go ahead with the marathon race when there are people living in the streets and no place to go because their homes are destroyed.

I have to get ready to go so have a good day.

To Westcoasters:
Hurricane Sandy was HORRIBLE. Shades of New Orleans. When we moved to Washington DC we had an ice storm, a blizzard, a hurricane and an earthquake and if we hadn't moved because of our kids we thought why did we ever leave SAFE New York. Our extended family in New York is really having a hard time. This is unimaginable devastation. Long Island was hard hit, so I know Sandi is having it tough.

Hope you are on the mend now. Illness abounds

Talk to me about pizza, since we moved from New York I haven't had a good pizza. I want to make it but it is so much work.

Hi to everyone else, not much to tell, my DH is sick, so I am mellowing and hanging around. Have a good day.

Brenda what kind of a dr appt do you have? I feel like all I do is go to drs. lately---the eye dr. for my recent cataract surgery in July (I have to go once a month now) & now the ortho dr. every week for this broken foot. My foot still hurts. I wonder if the pain is ever going to go away....

On the positive side we are having some nice sunny days! Unusual for japan! Have a great weekend, all!

We now have a thread titled "November Challenge" where people can post their goals and resolutions for the month. It isn't a sticky topic yet; I believe only a group leader can make it into a sticky topic. I'm sure that someone will also make a new November Chat thread soon.
Good luck everyone!

It doesn't really matter. We can just keep on chatting here.

I took a ride to the gas station with my friend Sam this afternoon. She heard gas prices have dropped 50 cents a gallon so borrowed some money from her sister to fill up her car. I will fill mine up tomorrow after my doctor appointment in the morning. Then go to the food bank and probably Walmart.

It didn't rain too much today. This afternoon the sun came out really bright and the clouds got very black and I expected a rain storm but it didn't happen.

Sorry Brenda, I have tried to get someone to tell me how to change it, but knowing me, I wouldn't be able to do it anyway.

Someone will come along and do it when they have the time.

Guess we will just have to use this thread until then!

Have a great Friday all!

Bonnie & Brenda, thank youfor your encouragement.

there is trick or treating in Tokyo. We used to take our kids when they were small. Still, it wasn't the same as in the U..S.

Sun is shining & I am hobbling off to do some grocery shopping. Everything I do takes sooooo much time! I have a great appreciation for my healthy legs. Hopefully, this cast will come off by T-giving, & then I imagine it will be all of December before I am back to "normal", whatever that is! LOL

Hi there all you busy people! We need a November Goals and Resolutions thread. It's a small but very hard-working group, dedicated to achieving our monthly goals. I don't know whether I should post the thread myself or wait for one of the leaders to post a sticky topic. Last month I/we did both, and it was a bit of a mixup.
Good luck with your November goals,
Laurie

Bonnie,

Everyone was no doubt busy either celebrating Halloween or out of power. The boards have been quiet.

My friend called me last night in need of someone to talk to so we talked for a couple hours and she was in much better spirits when we hung up. She is trying to move here and hopefully she will make the cut as we have two apartments vacating soon. One lady moved out to live with family and the other one is getting married.

My friend is having abandonment issues now with the holidays approaching. It is very hard on her when family comes to visit her and then they go home and leave her behind. She told me now she knows what I have been going through these past 6+ years since my husband had his stroke and went to assisted living. It is hard but I am strong and she will be strong too. She is 85 and I am noticing she tends to forget what she told me when I have talked to her the day before and repeats but I just listen to her and reassure her as best I can. Last night was especially hard for her because 13 of her grandchildren including some greats went and visited her to trick or treat in the building. There they are allowed to go door to door (not here tho). She had a great time taking them around the building but then they all told her thank you, hugs and kisses and went home. Very hard on her but at least they visited and she told me all about them.

Our pizza dinner was horrible and I couldn't eat it. Took one bite and threw it away. At our council meeting it was voted on to buy Papa Murphy's take and bake pizza. Well, the lady down the hall cooked the hawiian pineapple and canadian bacon ones and burned them. I don't know how a pizza can have a burned crust and be soggy. Anyway, I was not a happy comper. I had a late lunch of homemade veg beef soup so I was all right. It was just the principal of the thing that they decided to save a few bucks and cook the pizza here. At least they could have asked me to bake them. Anyway, the other pizza was the Chicago style double crust cheese injected affair that really turned my stomach just looking at it.

Our trick or treaters quit coming at 7 so we locked the doors. The card players stayed to play and I came home. I never ate one piece of candy although I did bring a few chocolate bars home. I probably won't eat them either.

The sun is out this morning and our rivers stayed within their banks so it is a good day. Most of the leaves are on the ground and the walkers are out enjoying the day. My scale weighed me lighter this morning as I have really been watching my food intake and it is working. I haven't lost anything per the Christmas Challenge but am back to my beginning weight.

Glad to know you have some free time to work on your own projects.

I am with you, and everyone else, I am stunned by the devastation on the East Coast of the US.

I just keep praying and praying for everyone involved.

POLLY

Welcome back, and hope you keep feeling better. I had a nasty sinus infection for about 4 weeks earlier in the year. It is tough to feel terrible for so long. Keep on getting well.

JOANN

Welcome. We are glad to have you with us.

MICHELE
Hang in there girl. You are several days closer to having your leg be healed. Maybe that thought will help some! Relax and take it easy. Maybe you are supposed to learn to relax some. I think that there are times in our lives when it is necessary for us to slow done and "smell the roses". I know for me, those times have always happened when I was "moving as fast as I can", and I would be careless because I was trying to do too much.

Not saying that is what happened to you, because I don't know, but it is food for thought. And you have plenty of time to think now!

Heal soon.

BRENDA

Hope you party and the kids are fun for you tonight.

I give big candy bars to the kids in my area that I know, and then do not give out candy out on Halloween. I am especially glad this year because it is just too cold to answer the door!

Thanks for your concern. I am doing fine, having injections in my knees on Friday, so I know that I will get some relief and be able to exercise better after that.

Otherwise I am fine just busy.

Yesterday I received an email from the dealership where I am leasing my car. They had some great deals, so I called my salesman, this is the dealership where my nephew in law Grisson works, and Scott is his good friend. He is the one I leased my current VW Jetta from. My lease up in March.

I really did get a good deal, on a 2013 Jetta, and my payments are even a bit less than on the current lease. They forgave the last four payments on my current car as well.

I do get some better consideration because of Grisson, so there would have been some small charges, which I did not have to pay because the dealership paid them.

VW is paying my first lease payment, so I walked out without giving them ANY money at all.

I did not like the color of the car I test drove, but liked the feel and handling of the car. My current car is wonderful in the snow and rain, and I feel very secure in it.

Scott has ordered me a car with a better color that I will pick up in a day or two, once they have it delivered, detailed and filled with gas.

That was my day today, plus my niece Christy cut and colored my hair.

Kind of glad that is over and done with, the car deal, as I knew that soon I would have to make some decisions on that, and now it is done. Scott said that I really got a much better deal than he could have given me in March, due to the normal pricing that time of year.

I got the deals from Oct AND Nov by leasing on the last day of Oct. It really is nice to know that you can trust the car salesman to tell you the truth.

As I ramble on again, you can tell I am tired.

Hope this finds you all well, and God Bless and keep you my friends.

Boo!! Sorry, couldn't resist.

how is everyone doing now that the worst of Sandy is over? Up here in Montreal, we saw the images of devastation. I know NYC well enough to be able to identify certain areas, so it's so sad to see such ruin.

I know the people who live in those areas are strong, but a soul can only take so much. Hopefully everyone will get the help that they need to get back on their feet.

Everything is pretty good here. I've got some spare work time on my hands so I'm working on two completely different books. one is on fibromyalgia and the other is on the games we used to play as children.

What games did you play when you were a child? I'm collecting stories, if you want to share. I have a website, www.GamesWeUsedToPlay.ca (remember to use the .ca if you pass it on to anyone) and there's also a Facebook page, When I Was a Kid I Played. https://www.facebook.com/pages/When-
I-
was-a-kid-I-played/
.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to contribute. Plus, a discussion here of games would be fun.

I've been watching Sandy since it started and it is very frightening, the power of water, you can't fight it. My heart goes out to everyone who lost so much. The devastation is amazing.

Our rains have started and along with it some areas are under flood alerts. Not our area so far but North of Seattle they seem to get the floods first. Seattle streets are water logged and traffic is very slow going for commuters. Last winter we lucked out and had no flooding here.

Bonnie, I have been worried about you so am glad you stopped by to let us know you are all right. Now we have to wait for Sandi to check in. I have a spark friend in NJ who lives a half mile from the shore and she blogs everyday but haven't heard anything from her since Sunday. I think she was right there by the boardwalk that is now floating away and the whole area is flooded from what I can see on the weather channel. I'm sure she evacuated with her husband, Thank God she didn't have her little grandson with them. He lives with her off and on but his mother has him. But then I don't know where she lives either. So many people to worry about!

We are having pizza at 4 down in the community room and will get ready for the trick or treaters. They are not allowed to go door to door here so they just come in and go table to table to get their treats. Very cute to watch them. They have to say 'trick or treat' at each table.

Michelle, keep on keepin' on and you will succeed. I'm not losing anything either but not trying very hard, just making healthy choices. I didn't even buy any candy this year. I still have a few bars in my candy dish from last year. There's lots of candy downstairs to give to the children. My neighbor bought her granddaughter a bag of apples instead of candy for her treat.

POLLYTIP,

Welcome back. I hope you keep on feeling good.

Prayers to all who are in harms way.

I am just stopping to see if I can get any news from those of us in the heart of the storm.

Prayers that you all are safe and with power and heat. God Bless all of the country affected by this storm.

Have been a bit busy, but I am ok. Not crazy about this wind and cold here, but in perspective, we are lucky.

Have to get ready to go get the kids off the bus, so will talk to you all tomorrow.

God Bless my friends

Welcome, this is a great group.

Michelle
What storm are you coping with? Put the weight in perspective, it is a bump in the road, don't let it get you down or your weight will go up! Advice I need because what I recently lost was not due to watching what I ate, so I have to be careful to watch my appetite.

Mareyka
Good that your son is dating again.

MaryLou & Sandi
Did the Frankenstorm effect you at all? We remembered the Durecho in July and it was horrible, no power for 3 days and unreal heat so we really prepared, physically and mentally. We were resigned to getting hit and pleasantly surprised today. Just dreary and there were high winds and rain, but we have POWER!
We are hearing dire things from NYC and Long Island and some of our relatives must have lost power.
My brother in Freeport, Long Island basement was flooded, he has such bad luck, there is no floor insurance because it was so expensive.

I found some really good videos with chair exercises online at Collage Video - you can preview it, but then I got a better deal on Amazon.

Thanks all for your good wishes and advice.I don't post every day, but make sure I read all the posts, I need to be better because by the time I post to people it's history.
I am feeling better, started swimming again twice last week - it felt wonderful.

Good morning from the West Coast!

Watching the news and weather channel is totally unbelievable. I hardly have time to sleep but did manage to get about five hours last night. We will have hard rain today and tomorrow and our rivers are on flood watches. I took my new neighbor to Walmart yesterday to pick up a few things. She doesn't have a car so us with cars invite her to go with us. We all look after one another. I think I should go fill my car with gas today. I didn't think about it yesterday when we were out. Prices have dropped some lately. I have a doctors appointment Friday morning for a check up but I may not go, depending on what the rivers do. So far they are watching the rivers north of Seattle. We are in the Chehalis Valley, south of Seattle, an hour from Portland. We have a few rivers here that flood regularly but didn't get any last winter.

I hope everyone stays as safe as they can with all this crazy weather and outages.

A fireman died yesterday, NJ, I think, when he was responding to an emergency call and a tree fell on his truck. He died of cardiac arrest. So sad..............

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum but not to SparkPeople. I just bought the book The Spark and I am feeling very motivated.

The storm has been downgraded to a tropical storm but not before doing a ton of damage and it is continuing to rain..

It is so nice to have this place to come to.

I just got off a med that was making me hungry all the time so I intend to do better starting today. I am going to the gym and yesterday I did Zumba. Now that I know how to use the wts at the gym I will get started on them tomorrow.

Thank you all for the encouragement.

Good morning.. I'm up early but off today. Slept terribly, wind howling kept me up,but oh my watching the news of hurricane and conditions up east, this is nothing! I hope you are ok Sandi, it is truly a mess and millions without power. Truly frightening to see.

Michele, my green smoothies vary from time to time, but basically they are fruit based with either orange juice, coconut milk to start, frozen fruit and always add spinach. The spinach you can't taste but it looks interesting and adds lots of extra nutrition! Don't be too discouraged about your goal, after a week or two you might be able to do some upper body exercise. When I had my bunion surgery in July it really derailed my workouts and weight loss. I had been on a roll! Was off work for 5 weeks and had orthotic boot for 6 weeks.. It took a couple weeks after that to even walk right and I was in gym shoes for another month, and dr. Told me no long waks our any pounding on the foot. I really just got back to workouts and walking about 3 weeks ago.
And day after Thanksgiving I will have bunion removed on my right foot.

Sandi so glad your mom is with you! I agree with Marylou---please keep us updated about the storm!

Marylou, what is in a "green smoothie" & how do I even make one? Just talking about it sounds good.

Maci, thank you for your encouragement. I feel so defeated right now--will not be able to make that 12/12 goal. And I was getting close!!

Tuesday & cloudy here. It is in the 50's today, so not too bad. Much better after the hot, hot summer we had!

Keep sparking,everyone!

Mom's area just got evacuated because of flooding so it's a good thing I went and got her last night. Winds are very high and the storm still isn't even here.

Good morning ladies, Sandi, so glad you have your mom with you! I hope you all do not lose power, good thing you have generator! there was even talk about us losing ower possibly tomorrow, our winds will be very strong. I am taking day off work, have Dr. appointment in morning and since it looks to be rainy, windy and cold I figured it would be good day to stay home!

I cooked a lot on Saturday and think I ate well, yesterday, not so great.
Making up for it today. I did not get my usual green smoothie made this morning but will be certain to do so tomorrow!

Parts of West Va. are due to get a LOT of snow from this weird storm, isn't there someone on here from W. Va? I love snow and winter (especially after our horrid hot summer) but October is too early for snow!

Michelle,

Don't stress about your weight gain, it is probably just water. Keep making healthy choices and you will be fine.

Our weather here on the West Coast is just wet. No repercussions for the earthquake in Canada the other night. They thought there might be a tsunami down our coast to California but nothing happened. I am two hours from the ocean beaches so nothing to worry about here. (Knock on wood) On the other hand we will get heavy rain tomorrow and Wednesday so there may be some river's flooding. That usually happens three or four hours north of us so we will be fine here in the valley.

I'm watching the storm on TV and the waves are amazing. Southern New Jersey (Atlantic City) is flooding at the moment. The boardwalk in Altantic City is floating away. The brunt of the storm is still 90 miles away from NJ and NY so this is getting intense.

I will keep you posted.

Hi ladies, wow the storm is really effecting alot of you. HOpe there is only good outcomes for all,. The weather you are all talking about sounds scary too, i hope we only get good conditions driving to Oregon tomm. It will take us about 14 hrs, we usually drive strait through but this time I asked hubs if we could stay in a hotel 1/2 way and he said "yes" woohoo. Last time we did it this way and it was really fun and we were actually alive and awake when we actually got to visit the family. Better idea!

*Brenda, Sandi, "+" hope it all goes well for you with the storm.
*Golf- Hawaii will be a nice change for you. Enjoy it. I love the vegitation and clear blue water there. I am gonna try to get Hubs to ok us to go on another cruise Jan 30th to Hawaii, Some of our friends are going and asked us to join them. He really wants to go on an Alaskan cruise next.

*Bonnie- It is always hard to commit to things but when we do they are the things that add memories to our lives, good for you for saying Yes! You said Yes to live! woohoo. I like to stick hot dogs in my crock pot chili and keep hotdog buns for those who like to dig out a chili dog, everyone in my fam loves it!

*BJ- Yes, another place to visit, I am not sure where, her hubs just joined the army and it's at a base in Kentucky. I won my tennis tournament 6/1, 6/4. tomm I have another one. Wish me luck! I am playing this one w/my doubles partner and with all my absences she has been put w/subs and losing, she has faith we can pull out a win, ohhhh I hope she is right, pressure! I have only lived in So.Calif on the coast so I know nothing about diff weather except when we visit oregon and it's raining or snowing, it scares me to death to be in a car.

*Marylou- I answered most your Q's above, but I want to add, tonight I did bake! I pulled out of the freezer Pepperidge puff pasty turnovers and cut them in 1/2 and took them to a dinner party, if you havent' tried them, they are yummy. Your soupd sound so yummy. My hubs would be in heaven.

*Mich- no worries girl we will get back into the low 150's again, I am the same as you. I am not giving up yet though, I have been on vacation, plus my disc took me out too, but the yr isn't over yet, we can still do it, don't give up, lets just change our focus to the low 150's again instead. We don't have to be perfect, just working towards being better.

I will be back next wkend all, will miss you all, hope the best for everyone, and send wishes for the storm to slow down and turn into a wonderful cool wind. Happy Halloween, oh and FYI those lil bags of M&Ms (halloween size) are 120 cals! good to know. ~Maci~

hi everyone. I have been having a "pity party" today; slept in until 8 30 a.m. I think I was in college the last time I slept that late!!! I had been very careful about what I ate & my wt returned to 155. Now it's up to 159. 5 again! I am not going to be able to make the x-mas challenge now that I can't exercise for a month.

I am able to walk at least. Thank heavens for that! My eyes are better now, too, & I am down to once a month drs. appts.

Hope all of you are surviving the hurricane. It sounds really scary!

Happy Monday, all!

Sandi,

The boards have been very quiet today and I am glad to hear from you. It's good that you went and got your mom to ride out the storm with you.

I have been watching the weather channel most of the day tracking the storm. It is getting very scary.

MaryLou,

No we don't get much snow, it mostly stays in the mountains and in Eastern WA. We did get a good snowstorm last year and I took some awsome pictures of the trees behind our building out my living room window. It didn't last long tho. With all the rain we get the streets can get very icy when the temps dip. I just stock up on everything I can think of and stay home. My apartment building is halfway up a steep hill. I have a Jeep with four wheel drive but I don't drive if I have to use that. My husband always drove and now that he's gone, I just plan ahead.

I was going to cook my pot roast yesterday but didn't get around to it so it is going in the slow cooker today. I decided I needed to eat the cooked food in the refrigerator first.

There was a 7 point earthquake at 7 pm in Canada last night and they had tsunami warnings out for the West Coast and Hawaii over night, now it is just alerts. The weather is going bonkers. Rain for the next week.

What is apple oatmeal? Sounds good.

I have a spark friend who lives in New Jersey just a half mile from the shore and I am worried about her and her family. Their neighborhood has flooded before but not their street. This storm is going to be viscious. She said they pumped water out of the lake at the end of her block in case it floods, the water will have somewhere to go. She is not evacuating.

Sending prayers to everyone in harms way.

Good morning!
Oh Sandi stay safe and your preparations sound good. Make sure you have drinking and cooking water stored up also. Even though we are in Midwest, my hubby wants to buy a generator. They are good to have on hand. We had a "dry" hurricane here few years ago with no rain but bad wind that took out a lot of trees and power outages all over. We lost power for a mere three days, but others not far from us for a week to two weeks or longer.

Maci, what a great busy lifer to have! You must be close enough to Oregon to drive up there. Beautiful part of the state. We want to visit Oregon sometime.. We drove the coast when we were out there, stunning scenery. We stopped in Elk California one night at an inn in Greenwood Pier, what an amazing place it was. That was trip of lifetime.. And we've not had one like it since. No time or money. Lol. Where will your daughter move in Ky? I am pretty partial to my state.. There are a lot of beautiful areas throughout. No coastline though. emoticon

Bonnie, your day sounds wonderful and enjoy being ass't stage manager. Something to look forward to!

Brenda, do you get much snow where you are? I know my niece said it is rare for them to get much snow in winter, but, the cold rain..brrrrr!

I spent all day in kitchen yesterday. Made cauliflower soup and boy was it good! Also made baked apples, assembled a baked apple oatmeal that sits in fridge overnight, and I baked this morning. Waiting for it to cool and we will have for breakfast.

In addition to that I made roasted Swiss chard that we had with soup for dinner. Worn out but we had couple of friends for dinner and had good time.

Our weather for Monday into Tuesday looks miserable, cold rain and winds. Hard to believe it will be from bands of the storm.

Aha well, have a great Sunday all and Sandi, I'll keep you in my prayers.

Bonnie,

Being assistant stage manager sounds like great fun! Gives you something to look forward to during the winter doldrums. Que Serra Serra. If it is meant to be, it will happen.

Your chili lunch party was a good idea. Do you do that very often? I think it is good for you that your AB is staying with you now so you have company. I know she is glad to be with you, too.

It rained all day and got a little windy. I had planned to go to Walmart but wimped out and decided I didn't really need to go out, which I didn't. Just want to stock up on some stuff before the snow flies.

When I first heard about Sandy they said it could go inland as far as Ohio. I hope it doesn't do that. This is really a scary storm and I hope it doesn't get as severe as predicted.

You are so blessed to have a large family. I know you just love spending time with the GC. I know you will miss you son and his family when they move to Kentucky. Maybe you and DH will get to visit them after they settle. That is a long way. I love the mountain states. I guess because I grew up in West Virginia. At the same time I love South Carolina. This is really home to us. I like the extra summer month and the short winters. Not much snow, either. How did you do on your tournament?

SANDI

Prayers for all of you in the path of this terrible storm. Sure hope she loses steam before hitting.

Glad to know that those of you in the Carolinas are not having too bad a time of it.

Yesterday was rainy, today was not terribly cold, and the sun did peck out a bit. That is always good for me.

Had a great day, and evening, just very busy.

Had some family over for lunch, at noon, and then for the afternoon, most were here until about 5:00pm or a bit later. Good party.

However, I slept until 10:00am, like you Brenda, guess I needed it.

Was glad that I had made chili in the crock pot and it had cooked all night. Was pretty much ready for the luncheon, but did not get my sit down and drink my coffee and relax morning. My brother called, from Texas, and we had a good talk.

So, I was running a bit late. Of course everyone else was early, but it worked out fine. It was family after all.

Aunt Betty was thrilled that they came to our house, so she could show everyone her upstairs "Apartment".

Tonight, went to a play at the Toledo Rep, that my friend Kate had directed. It was the stage play of the radio production of the "War of the Worlds" from the thirties.

Very well done. Quite tense, even though I knew it was a play, and that it was a fake radio broadcast, but I still got sucked right in. They did a great job. Could like of see how people where taking in by the original broadcast back in the thirties.

Visited after with some friends in the cast, and Kate. Also saw quite a few old friends before the show and after and had a great visit.

One of the girls has asked me to assistant stage manager with her for "Death of a Salesman" in March. Not crazy about that time frame, as rehearsal period is Jan and Feb. But, she said she just needs a little help, and I have been wanting to do something, so I said yes. Really kind of excited about it. This way I can do as little or as much as I am comfortable with.

One of my friends Zack was there, and I had been his first stage manager years ago. He told everyone that I was the best stage manager he had ever worked with, so that was great for my ego as well!

Hope this will work out, and that we do not have a lot of snow, because I am getting a bit excited about it. Guess it is the right time for it. If it doesn't work out, then guess it wasn't!

Have a great Sunday my friends.

God Bless you all

Good Morning Everyone,

I slept until 10 this morning after a restless night. I don't often sleep so long but my body must have needed it. I'm watching the weather channel about Sandy. Now they are saying people should be prepared for the power to be out maybe 10 days. This is going to be very scary, especially for those on the coast with the expected flooding.

We will have rain for the next week at least but that is normal here for the West Coast. Today I'm going to Walmart for toiletries and more food staples. I am pretty well stocked now but I want more in case of inclement weather. I always had my husband to depend on and now it is just me and I don't like/want to drive in snow and ice so I just prepare for the worst.

Maci, you would love Gig Harbor. It is a little fishing town right down steep hills in the harbor. It is beautiful to see all the boats tied up. Quaint shops and restaurants. The Shoreliner Restaurant is very fancy but down the road from there is Three Fingered Jacks that is a lot of fun. People from all over go there in their boats and tie up at the dock for the good food and atmosphere and you don't have to dress up.

MaryLou, I need to go through my closet and donate some things to the Visiting Nurses store. There are clothes that I don't wear so why do I keep them? I think I'm a hoarder. LoL I bought a pot roast yesterday so will put that in the slow cooker with a lot of fresh veggies and have myself a feast. Then freeze some for another day.

Have a good day, everyone.

Hi ladies haven't had a chance to ck out the upcoming storm but it sounds abit scary. Yes gear up,, fill those water bottles. The closest thing we have ever experienced like that is high wave warnings, those are kind of exciting, (if you don't live on the beach.) I think with katrina we all learned to gear up for the worst, hopefully this will pass on with out to much damage.

*Shesmith- I like thinking in the decades too. You will reach that goal, it's fine when we don't reach our goals, it's good to just always be trying to and on the path towards them. For many yrs I only weighed more from Jan - Jan, this yr I will weigh less that is something to celebrate!

*Marylou- yes my life is fast, thank god I dont' work! literally. I just wouldn't have time, I do have to say though I do have alot of couch time in the early afternoon. I love to veg on the couch, My life is filled w/gkids, daughters, and a really fun loving hubs. The part that seems to be neglected is my cooking. I hardly ever cook, your homemade soups cooking and warming the house sound dreamy.

*BJ- Big hellos to you today!

Well this morning Hubs and I woke up and decided to drive to Oregon on Monday. After my league tennis match, & after his match we are taking our gdaughter Brianna to the drs for her ckup on her leg. We are hoping she will be able to jump in the jumpie we rented for our youngest daughters homewarming/babyshower party Nov 4th.

Our #4 daughter and her family (our youngest gson 4) are moving to Kentucky on Nov 4th, they live in Oregon now by the rest of Jim's (hubs)family. So we are gonna go do Halloween with Tyler before they leave and visit the rest of the clan too. So off we go again, We havent' even unpacked completely yet. I guess you have to take things as they come, Jim starts a big project (building fences) when we get back. So it looks like the christmas challenge posts are gonna be on the 5th! A few more days to change your #. woohoo. Have a great halloween! Make a plan for your holiday candy or it will plan to take over, My plan is 10 mini candy bars total, so I will be on the look out for my favs. Happy wkend all!

Hi Maci,
It is good to see you are back. You will nail you goal to be in the 140's by New Year's Eve. Now just ease on back into your daily weight lose goals and run with it.
For everyone that is bracing for Sandy. You are in my prayers. I live in SC so I know what you are expecting. Just make sure you are prepared. It may not be as bad as they first predicted. But still be prepared for things like flooding. You'll all be in my prayers.

Good morning ladies!
Maci, I'm worn out reading your post! Gig Harbor is in Washington state. Across Narrows bridge from Tacoma. It is amazing little town situated around a harbor. Just beautiful place with a view of Mt. Rainier off in the distance. I love the Pacific Northwest. I also have family in California in Bay Area. Don't get to see them often enough.

We have cold wet day here in Cincinnati so my plan today is put summer clothes away and get winter ones out, get rid of some things and then spend time cooking. Want to make a cauliflower soup and some roasted Swiss chard. Hoping to get the cooking mojo back!

Have good day and those in path of Sandy, please be safe. Prayers coming your way.

Good morning, all! Our beautiful autumn days in piedmont NC are drawing to an end with wind and drizzle from the outer bands of Sandy. She diminished from a hurricane to a tropical storm overnight. Hopefully, she will continue to diminish and not be the hazard to the Northeast that was predicted earlier.
It is looking as though I will not meet the 12 by 12/12/12 challenge. The pounds just don't want to fall off. However, my newly projected goal is to at least "cross decades" by then (ie, go from the 140s into the 130s).
I wish you all a wonderful weekend! Stay safe and healthy~

Hi ladies, I have only had one other chance to catch up on my computer stuff and that is when I wrote last. It's tough catching up on your life when you have been gone, esp since we have so much family around jumping in the mix. (gotta bless that) while gone my oldest DD who has been living w/us bought a home and will be moving in Nov so things should slow down abit then, when she moves out so do the gkids (will miss them but they are only gonna be about 3 mi down the road) My goal is to be back to my dailys by the 1st! (vitamins, exercise, sparks, jems, and only F&V;s after 8pm) those have been my daily dos for along time before i left on vacation, they keep me focused.

My wt right now is 159.8. I need to share this so it doesn't grow more. I ate to much on my cruise but hey I definately wasn't the first to do that!!! teehee.

So where is Gig Harbor??? i have a cute harbor right down at the end of my street called Oceanside Harbor, in Oceanside, Calif, google it, it's darling. We have a walking path to it.

*Christmas challenge, ladies who are on it, I will be posting your new wts on the 1st, so send them in. No worries if you arn't going to get to goal, the avg gain from now to New yrs is 7pds, if we can just stop that insanity we are on top of it! If you lose one pd that is one pd gone this yr instead of one pd gained. Anyone who gets to goal is really a "superstar".

Hi Brenda,Sandi, Sunny, PJ, plus all my other sparksisters I missed.
*Mare- thanks for the water reminder! welcome back too!
*Marylou- Hi! Yes,we need to count it all! sounds like you are working it great!
*Mich- Are you kidding me?Broken foot. Wow girl we are really getting challenged this yr!
*Bonnie- I will never carry a big purse again after my neck injury this yr. enjoy your weather.
*Mari- It's really hard to get back. It always helps me to pick a date, babysteps.
*Fiona- woohoo a new car! What a treat.

This yr my plan is to be one of the winners of wt loss, If I end this yr less than I started I am on top of things! So far so good. There is still plenty of time for us to achieve this plan if you want to. I want to be in the 140's by the new yr. Even if it's 149.999999 where do you want to be? Join me in making it happen!

All is well here in South Carolina. Beautiful days and cool nights and early mornings. Cold weather is suppose to move in with possible hard freezes. Getting my flower pot garden protected. I have to save my collard, squash, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, and herbs.

Good morning everyone. Not much to report here. We are having an absolutely gorgeous, unseasonable warm autumn day here in Montreal. I will definitely get out a little later. I already went out to the gym, but I have to chain myself to my computer to finish writing a lengthy, not-very-interesting article (to me) on infection surveillance systems. Yesterday, I distracted myself from that by writing a shorter piece for another client - on hemorrhoids in pregnancy. Sometimes being a health writer isn't very glamorous!

I am going to speak to one of the personal trainers at the gym about something I want to do in May. We have an annual Tour de l'Ile, which is a bike cycle circuit around the island of Montreal. My oldest son has done it and I asked him if he would do it with me in May if I'm ready. It's not a race, just a long, challenging ride. He said he would, so now I have to make sure I can do this. I finish my work outs with 10 minutes of fairly vigorous cycling on the stationary bike, so I know I can to flat lands. Now I have to start adding hills, etc.

Ok, I have to get some work done if I want to get outside. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning! Hello Mumsey, I wondered where you were. I believe you are inNew Zealand? My good friend's daughter is there, she is there on an adventure all by herself for a whole year! Cannot remember what city she is in right now, but she is hoping to find work and stay there for a while. She is amazing young woman!

Well Bonnie, I really like your advice! I sure do not want to think about yesterday and all the junk I ate! YIKES!

Making up for that today. Bad thing, a co-worker has birthday tomorrow and he brought in a big home made apple cake (looks amazing) and two tins of spritz cookies.. OMG those are my favorites. If I make them at Christmas I cannot stop eating. not good at all. Luckily they are not sitting in front of my cubicle (like the big old sheet cake was yesterday). I can and will avoid going down that way. I had my smoothie this morning, going to get the hard boiled egg I also brought in.

Serious weather changes in the making, just windy here and rain for later, but I feel for those on the coast. Let's hope the bad storm does not materialize as forecasters are fearing. We have friends in Jacksonville Florida, and family in Virginia Beach.

Hi everyone. I have been busy with lots of things. We have bought me a new car.
A 2005 Nissan March and only had 3140 kms on the clock so a great bargain.
I haven't been very active but am pleased to say that keeping an eye on my food is helping and I have actually lost a few grams so hopefully I will be into it again.
With summer fast approaching hubby and I have been getting the gardens ready for plantings etc so outside a bit

Michelle,

We are the Evergreen State so we get a lot of rain and seldom get bad storms. It's unusual if we do. I live in the valley so flooding is a problem in the winter although we didn't get any last winter. My apartment building is halfway up a steep hill so if it does flood it isn't a problem. We just can't go shopping because roads would be flooded so we stock up on all kinds of foods and whatever we think we might need. I live on the West Coast and that big storm is going to be all along the East Coast beginning in Florida.

Bonnie good for you for getting your exercise in. You are such a good "mother" to your nieces!

Brenda, do you get a lot of storms like the one that is coming? We are even getting broadcasts here in Japan about it!

Had to do a bit of grocery shopping today & will now rest the rest of the afternoon. I hope the next 4 weeks pass fast!

Have a good weekend, all!

Bonnie,

All the newscasters are talking about the Monster Storm heading your way starting in Florida and up the East Coast and said it could get as far as Ohio. So hold on to your hat and be ready for whatever Mother Nature conjures up.

I hope you didn't injure your wrists. If your purse is anything like mine it probably weighs about eight pounds. I put a lot of different things in mine 'just in case' and mostly never need them. LoL Good for you walking the trails with the children. You are teaching them good habits.

Marija, I hope your stomach problems get resolved soon. Just be careful what you eat. No seeds or popcorn. You can still eat tomatoes and cucumbers as long as you seed them first. Remember that strawberries have their seeds on the outside. I used to peel them before I ate them. What a pain to peel! Also watch out for Sesame seeds on hamburger buns or in Chinese food. Just a few pointers but am sure you already know this.

Michelle,

Ditto what Bonnie and others have said about your ankle. What a bummer that is to happen to you. Try not to overdo!

That is a great record of exercise! Good on you!

MICHELE

Hope you are having less pain as the day goes on. Take it easy as you can, so you don't hurt. You have had an amazing run with your exercise, so I know it is going to be a tough 4 weeks for you. Just come here and complain whenever it is making you too crazy!

MARIJA

I know you have had a tough time on your trip, and since being home. Prayers that your stomach gets better soon.

Just post when you feel up to it, and remember we are always here for you.

MARYLOU

Good for you for exercising on your lunch break. That is dedication.

Just remember what Michele said about your eating, one day at a time. It is so very freeing to only think about one day at a time. Forget yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow, just do your best today. I hear the young people say a lot, "live in the present". Sounds good to me!

BRENDA

I don't know why we have been having such wonderful weather, but mine is not to question why, mine is to just enjoy the heck out of it. Poetic license! I think today is the end of it, looks like we are to get a storm soon too.

I am sure you are right, too much weight in the purse. Just something I tried, and may need to rethink. Usually I don't have my purse when I walk, but because I was carrying my Nook reader around with me, I just took the purse.

I have broken my left wrist quite a few years ago, and had bilateral carpel syndrome, both have been repaired. I never thought about the exercising bothering my wrist, still a bit sore tonight.

It will get better I am sure.

Had Gracee and Ellee after school today. We took care of homework, and they had a snack, and then we went to the walking trail out by their house. Had a lovely time. The trail is one mile, and the girls kept me going. I know that my back is getting stronger, but it still hurts when I walk. It doesn't hurt after, so I can stand it, because I know it will just get stronger if I use it. I am not hurting it. Having some trouble with my knees. Have an appointment with my Dr next Friday to have steroid injections in both. Haven't had those for several years. That will help me get moving better as well.

One day at a time you know!

God Bless

Bonnie

Hello all.
Sounds like everyone is doing fine.

Maryeka good for you on the exercise! Keep up the good work! I started that way, too, doing about 5-6 days a week of jogging (at the time) & it has now been 29 years this past Sept since I have been exercising faithfully. I am going to miss a whole month now with this cast, but I will be back to it soon.

Marylou Keep practicing your eating. You will get it right. Just one day at a time. We only have this moment anyhow.

Have a good weekend, all!

I say that all the time, how perverse fate is. You didn't wish for free time by breaking your foot. If its not one thing its another.

Kudos for sticking to it.

Sorry I have not posted for awhile, sincew I got back from Spain the time has flown. I haven't weighed myself either since Spain. I need to find out what I weigh, although because my stomach is so on the fritz, overeating has not been a problem - tomorrow I'll see where I stand. Good afternoon & evening, everyone.

MaryLou, there's a "map your route" function in the tracking fitness section of this site. If you don't know about it yet, it's a great tool. You just type in your starting point, map your route, enter how many minutes it took to walk and your weight. It calculates your calories and adds it to your fitness tracker.
