Yes We Can, I have spent most of the day de-cluttering, unreal the stuff I save by putting it out of sight, I do not think I am a pack rat, or a hoarder, but close, I swear, but I do better monthly,
I was good on calories yesterday, ate out at a buffet, so that is always a problem, but, no dessert, bread, potatoes, I had a big salad and vegetables as well as baked chicken. I was good. So far today, I have been real good, but the main meal is yet to come, and I want to fix something easy good and quick and that could be a problem. emoticon

oops, I messed up and see I posted in June, so I will copy this and put it in JUly

Thanks Brenda. I just had 1 1/2 days of inconvenience where there are half a million homes with no electricity for 3 days so far and mid 90 degree days. The suffering is high. I understand they don't have water either (in some cases or all, I don't know). Hotels are booming with business from those who can afford it.

For some, they may be out until Friday which is excruciating. Reminds me of the days I grew up and also when I lived in NYC when there was no A/C to be had. Miserable.

It was warmer than I thought it would be mid-day here too Mary. I had put off a walk waiting on my Dad to decide if he wanted to run some errands. He ended up not wanting too, but was to warm for my walk then. I did 35 minutes on the elliptical tonight, and covered 2.66 miles. That puts me over 20 miles of walking/elliptical for the week!

Hi it is a hot Saturday here again, but I have had a good day, got 35 minutes in on my treadmill, and went to Costco, lots of steps there too, and we always enjoy looking and shopping, I kept in my calorie range, a bit over on my cholesterol, that is my egg this morning and rottissierie chicken from Costco, it sure is good.
I plan on cantaloupe this evening, and I am sure my 10,000 steps will be no problem. when the sun geta a bit lower I will go for a walk.
Well June is gone now, and I am anxious to find out what July is going to bring us.
Have a great weekend.

We had a short but violent storm last night that knocked out my comcast so I'm in my mom's condo on her computer. Many people don't have any electricity so I'm lucky to just be out the tv and phone and computer. I'll be finishing my book today unless I continue to hang out in her condo.

Later, ladies.

Redhat I love your idea of SP sunglasses! What a great way of reminding us of our new healthy lifestyle!

I walked with a friend for 60 minutes this morning, and then felt like a workout at Curves tonight. Tomorrow is my hubby's birthday and I wasn't sure if I would make it to Curves for my normal Saturday workout. So I went tonight to get my 4th workout in for the week.

Yes we can, but unfortunately, I did not lose but 1 pound this month, but I am not giving up, there is always July, and as I have said, I feel like a young chickadee, well maybe not that good, but, I do feel great most of the time.
I have not eaten too healthy today, just not hungry, but I am working on my steps, that is my exercise on Fridays, so gotta get those in at least.
Have a wonderful weekend. and try to stay cool. and wet and rainy Washington sounds heavenly

Hi, everyone. I am having a blast in Vegas! I am walking my legs off, perspiring, and drinking lots of water (no cocktails). I did not end up signing up for the health club privileges, but have pursued a vigorous program of walking hotel hallways and stairs instead.

I am trying to limit my food indulgences & am having limited success. Had probably the best restaurant meal of my life at the Eiffel Tower restaurant. And I crossed paths with a chocolate fondue fountain. I tried to put up a fight, but the fondue won...LOL

This is the first ever vacation that I am taking SP style. I am still tracking my points and posting on SP so I can keep my SP focus. Doing SP at home is something I have gotten pretty good at. Doing it on vacation uses a whole new skill set and attitude adjustment. It feels a little scary, but I am learning how to scan buffets for fresh salad items, how to eat more slowly so I feel full with less food eaten, how to make myself get up and take a walk before breakfast, etc.

It's like looking at a vacation with a special set of SP sunglasses that show you the world in a whole different light. I like what I see!

An extra motivator is that I am with quite a few older ladies who are losing the fight to stay youthful and active. Some are using electric scooters. I don't want that to be me in 10 years!
Come July 1 and I will be back in the game at full steam.

Good morning everyone. All this talk about hot weather makes me glad that I live here in Washington state. So far we have had a lot of rain all month but is going to hit 70 by Monday, rain again on Tuesday and cloudy for 4th of July.

I use the stairs instead of using the treadmill down in the computer room. When I go shopping I park at the edge of the lot. Finding things in Walmart is a real adventure because they are constantly moving things so I walk back and forth a lot, only asking for help as a last resort. Yesterday it was a search for a digital food scale. The one I decided on was only $20 and does all the same things that the $40 Biggest Loser scale does. This one converts from pounds to kg, grams and will weigh up to 10 pounds and doesn't take up much space. I have been using the big clunky number scale so that is now retired. To keep it or donate it? That is my question right now.

Tracking my calories everyday is working. Losing inches and getting back in to jeans I could not wear a month ago so life is good.

Thanks Missy. I know how sluggish I am with warm weather. And the resistance to strength building. Why is a mystery since I know how good it is for my body.

We will be over 100 degrees today and tomorrow so I'm hiding out at home. I will have to take the dogs out every 4 hours though. The first one of the day was hot so I don't want to imagine what it'll feel like for the other 3.

Tomorrow night I usher for the last Festival of the Arts performance for this season. (A dance troupe called Momex we never heard of.) Getting into the car will be pure torture by then.

Dale, many of us did not start out at the pace or level we are at now. I know for me it has been an uphill battle. You have to start somewhere and just build on that. I started walking (at a very leisurely pace) for 30 minutes 3x a week. Now I try to walk 6x a week, and do a Curves workout 4x a week. Don't forget the strength training, it is very important to weight loss and helping with bone loss. All you need is your own body weight, no additional things really required.

I did get to Curves this morning and had a great workout. Then after lunch, I did go to Avila with my daughter and both granddaughters and did the 6 mile Bob Jones trail in 90 minutes. After that we hit the beach for a bit. I have been sleepy since I got home though. Not sure if it was too much sun, or all the activity!

Yes We Can!!!

I am glad the doctor gave you a green light Yanks, just try and do take it easy, and I know how hard that is to do,
I had a good day again, went to aerobics class, and walked my 60 minutes, 30 on the treadmill and 30 outside this evening, a beautiful evening for walking. but boy it was hot today.
I would never say that I am getting on top of that sugar thing I have, but I am doing pretty darn good.
I was reading about a low glycemic diet, and may try that, the low carbs, made me too weak and I felt bad all the time, and I really did not go below 100 a day,
Now I am confused is it low glycemic or high glycemic, I know corn is not that good for you, and one of my favorite things this time of year. I am a big healthy bread eater anyway, I stay away from that over processed doughy bread.
I weigh in in the morning, so, I am still hoping.

You all are much more active than I. What wore me out was a walk in the park for many of you.
Well, I give myself credit for 'hanging out with the big guys' here. The Yes We Can attitude is just what I need in my life.

I'll post what exercise I come up with later today.

Well another month has flown bye, man where does the time go. This early morning I went out for a 5.1 mile run before the heat . I might go to the gym later on today after some appointments.

By the way the cardiologist cleared me for Sundays event, he did say to take it easy and to pace myself. That's easier said than done with my competitive nature. Everyone make it a good day!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and congrats on my accomplishment. I didn't get a chance to check in here last night because I worked yesterday, and could have either spent time online, or working out. I chose a walking DVD with Leslie Sansone.

I did Curves for an hour this morning and then a 50 minute 3.5 mile walk/jog this evening. Tomorrow my daughter and youngest granddaughter and I are going to Avila Beach to do our 6 mile walk. It usually takes us 90 minutes. I am planning on Curves first, but that depends on getting going early!

Hope you all have a great day tomorrow!

Thanks Red Hat, t is just so hard being so far away,
I was a red hatter for quite a few years, but (and I always blame the younger ones,) it seemed like the were not into the silliness that the rest of us were, I guess you have to at least hit 50 to lose your inhibitions, at least it seemed that way for me, but we had such a good time, went someplace new every month, and just had fun, but it all fell apart, so now here I am with feather boas, scarves, 5 hats 4 red and 1 purple for my birthday month, but maybe I will find another one close, Loads of fun, and wow especially ALas Vegas, hope you have lots of fun and lots of good luck.
I did my aerobics today, and walked 30 minutes not sure if I will get out there this evening or not, another hot day.
I am being good on my food,

Well, today is going extremely well, this morning I had speech therapy, then afterwards I jogged for 3.3 miles. This afternoon I have a planned visit to one of the cardiologist I usually visit. This is a follow up to monitor that I had to wear for 7 days, I'm curious as to what he has to say.

One of the main questions for him is , will it be alright to participate in an event this Sunday, It's not until 5pm that's a hot part of the day, well we'll see what he has to say.

Tomorrow is a planned st day.

Mary, So sorry to hear about all the grieving you have been going through. Please accept my deepest sympathy. I hope your remaining brother can stay stabilized at least until you get to visit in Oct. You should be commended for trying to do things to improve your health amidst everything going on.

I got in a short 20 min. walk today. My packing took most of the day (including a few last minute errands). You would think I was packing for a month instead of just a few days. But packing for a Red Hat Society convention is kind of like packing for 3 or 4 costume parties.
Then some exercise clothes, walking shoes, dress shoes, hats, etc., etc. But it will be a blast!
I am going to sign up for the gym and work out every morning. I may not post while I am gone, but I will be back July 1 and ready for next month's challenge.
Yes we can!

I am going to only weigh myself on Friday mornings, it is such a downer every morning, so what ever will be on Friday will be,
I ate good yesterday, and 120 minutes of aerobics and walking, that is about my norm 3 days a week, and I plan on some weight lifting later today, and crunches on my stability ball. as well as my walking. gotta get in my 10,000 steps, just not sure why.
My last remaining brother is not doing as well as he should be, and I hope he can stay pretty healthy until October, when I plan on a trip back home, I lost 2 brothers to cancer this year, one in February and one on April 1, so was really hoping for a fun trip in October, so we will see what happens, But I am determined that I will keep myself as healthy as I can.

BFERRELL-----That's the way to go, keeping an eye on exactly how much you apply each workout is a terrific way to motivate yourself and others!!

This morning was a strictly cardio day for me, I ran/jogged for 6.20 miles--then the elliptical for 30 minutes, while on the elliptical I had some great conversation with one of my gym partners. It made the time pass so quickly. Then I cooled off on a bike for 30 minutes.

Very busy day. Lots of misc. to get done so I can spend tomorrow packing for Vegas. I did not find time to work out. In the past when I had a busy day I would have fast food or order a pizza.
Now I see the need to eat healthy, especially before any vacation time. That takes time, so I didn't get my workout in. I am committed to not eating whole hog while away. I will treat myself some, but I don't want to gain 4 or 5 lbs. It's not worth it!

Finally finished The 28 Day Bootcamp Challenge last night! It was a huge accomplishment for me. Now to keep up with the ST that I have been doing all month with the bootcamp. I get in plenty of cardio every week, at least 380 minutes of walking and Curves, but the ST is important for the weight loss to be successful.

A good wet morning to all, earlier I managed to get in a 4.3 mile run before the deluge. Then I hit the gym where I biked for 40 minutes, completed 40 minutes of st and then I hit the elliptical for 30 minutes. I feel okay as I'm posting, lets see how I feel around 3.

Yesterday, we stopped in a pace called California Pizza, I scoffed down A whole pie about 12" in diameter. Whats cool about this place is it has the calories listed underneath each item. The type of pizza that I had was 1200 calories, not bad . You have to enjoy yourself , I made sure that the pie I consumed had the good stuff for toppings.

Good morning. Thanks for your thoughts on who decides to participate in challenges. It is important for me to get through any drawbacks or slumps a lot quicker so I love being a member.

Today I'll do that WATP dvd. If it isn't humid, I can walk, too.

good point marilyn............... I like your thinking

Got a very long bike ride in yesterday. It was close to 20 miles. I wasnt really even sore which was surprising to me. Guess my muscles are getting used to it.

Cleaned my bedroom and today its rainy outside so going to do some cleaning out my drawers. Somehow Im always cleaning out -------- and still have more crap I dont need. Not sure why that is.

everyone enjoy the day and make good food choices. There is actually none of my favorite junk food in the house which is a good thing.

Had a pretty good weekend in that I completed a 2 hr. hike today. My eating was good on Fri.
On Sat. sound food choices fell to the wayside when we ended up unexpectedly at a dinner party with lots of BBQ and almost no low cal choices. Today I did somewhat better with food choices. I am not obsessing over it, as I know some days I will not have as much control over what my meals will be.

I have no idea how to attract more people to participate in challenges. I am not sure it is possible to attract people to join and stay in the challenges. They have to want this and realize that a challenge might be a good motivator. Even if more people joined in initially, I doubt if they would stay with it unless they had an inner voice compelling them to do so. In my experience lots of folks admire what we achieve here, but only a few are willing to commit to making those lifestyle changes for themselves. So why stress about the number of people who are joining in the challenges and instead just celebrate the successes of those who do.

Last night's dinner before going out was simply cold shrimp in cocktail sauce and bing cherries! When I'm out at night I eat less. (Naturally.) The two shows I ushered at (last night and Friday night) were not my type of entertainment but they were good for what they were.

Hiding from the heat,

checking in early today, going to go out for breakfast so I will have to keep aware of exactly how many calories biscuits and gravy do have, I will be good, and have something else. we are going to one of the local airport cafes, they are always good, and fattening,
I did get my 10,000 steps in yesterday, so, today should be a breeze.

going to be a poolside day. going to brunch with friends ----- then hanging at the pool the rest of the afternoon and then will start a painting project at home............ or getting ready for one.

Also making a natural weed concoction that I saw on the internet. Its vinegar - salt and dish detergent. Supposed to be an excellent weed killer. I have some weeds to get rid of and because I have a dog I dont like using chemicals. hoping this works.

have a great day.............. eat right - its almost all about eating properly

Yes we can,

126.0 and I was sure I would be at least down to 125, but maybe Friday for sure, My DH and I ran around all day today, got a lot accomplished but my steps are not in too good of shape, I worked out this morning early and got finished weeding and got some plants in the ground, went out and bought more this afternoon. Well I do enjoy flowers, so now maybe I can get them done in the morning early.
I have eated healthy today so far, and actually about the only thing left is cantaloupe, so it will be a good day nutrition wise. I have done a few upper arm exercises with my 2 pound weights,, not heavy but I did 3 reps of 15 each.
It is still hot here too.
and I have no idea, how to entice more people to join our forum, it helps keep me aware of my food and exercise, especially my steps.

Dropping by to say it's not such a good week after all. I haven't exercised once. Worrying about a loved one which I know is like a leaky drain but their crisis can have devastating consequences.

I just got in from a gym session, prior to the session I jogged for 3.3 miles outdoors, I'm going to run in an event next Sunday, I'm not near the shape that I was prior to May 10th so I want to use this event as a sticking point as to where I am .

This will hinge on a drs. appointment I have on Wed.

Its been very hot here in NJ.......................... Ive spent some time at the pool and I am very brown.

My scale is hanging right at that 135 mark..................... its not horrible - and its not great and for now Im not obsessing about it.

I did get 6 NJ sparkers to join me and register for a Jersey tour bike event ( 32 mile ride) in Sept. Im happy about that. Ive been riding early morning to train for this.

...................
enjoy the weekend everyone......... eat properly and the rest falls into place.

June marches on. Today I spent all day housecleaning. I did have time for a 30 min walk and 10 min of Pilates. I am doing lots of cooking these days instead of eating out. This is really helping me stay on track.

I see I am posting back to back, I just came in the house, got way too hot outside for me to do anymore yard work, and that seems to be never ending also, we do have a gardener, but most all of the weeding and such is left up to me. I like to do it, but, I must have let it get away from me.
I weighed myself this morning, emoticon I am still 126, so I will work harder this week, makes me sad.
I walked on my treadmill for 30 minutes when I came in and cooled off, so, only got an afternoon walk planned, but I am sure I worked some muscles outside hoeing and pulling weeds.

me personally, I think I would take the blizzard over a heat wave, I just can not tolerate the heat any more, I do not think I ever really liked it too much, but I sure wish it would stay around 67 to 77 degrees all of the time, maybe 80 once in awhile. but it could get boring, not sure.
Thanks Dale, we really did not go all out last year, my DH and I just went away for the weekend, the October before, we went to Europe and that was our anniversary present to each other, and it was great.
I went to aerobic class today, 60 minutes there 30 minutes on my treadmill after I got home and I just got back from a 35 minute walk, so I think I have about 12000 steps already, tomorrow I plan on working in the yard mainly,, the weeds seem to grow faster than I can get them out, and I had one yellow tomato yesterday the first of the season and oh my it was good. emoticon

I am tolerating the heat pretty well, between walking early in the day and having access to a pool. Today I walked 60 min and did a 10 min. Core workout and a 10 min. Buns workout.
It feels great to look in the mirror and see my smaller waist. I have heard about so many people slipping back into their old ways. I vow not to let that happen. That's where the SP community comes in. Mutual support is the way to go!

I haven't been here for 5 days! wow
Last week I logged 250 minutes of walking which included one Walking Away The Pounds (WATP) dvd. Because I have low blood pressure, I have to be extremely careful in weather like this because I get light headed when getting up from sitting. For the first time, I actually fell today, fighting not to black out. My head bounced against the kitchen counter and cabinets on the way down. So I must baby myself and keep fans circulating air in every room. That makes a difference,

MARY, belated Happy 51st Anniversary to you! What an inconceivable accomplishment. Did you have a big party last year?

Of all days I take my dog to be groomed. The heat in the car is quite extreme and I don't know if I can find a shady place to park while I wait for him to get done.

Sorry I forgot to post here. I was keeping up with my exercise though, such as it is.

Yeah Jazz, it's going to be a real hot one today, what does the group prefer, a heat wave or a nor-easter, or a bunch of snow?

It looks as though the spark folks have changed the fitness page, oh well we'll get used to it

This am a 10k run at the gym, and then a 60 minute bike ride. After the run I had to change shirts, that's the beauty of a gym/ tm run you have a locker and a bathroom available.

My preference would be the hot weather!

going to be another scorcher here on the east coast today. They say its going to feel like 110 degrees........................ i will be in the pool all day . thats about the only way to be outside and stay comfortable.

May try to ride the bike later in the day but I doubt I can do a long ride in this heat.

Still working on garage and house cleanup. I do not know why I have saved some of this stuff. Its time to get rid of what I dont use and dont need. I kept thinking my kids will use it when they move out............. no one is going anywhere anytime soon and Im tired of looking at it all so.............. time to let it go.

enjoy the day everyone.

aerobics class this morning, I really enjoy it, and walked inside on my treadmill for 30 minutes, I am waiting for it to cool off so I can get another 30 minutes in on a nice walk.
I have eaten good so far today, and actually only see cherries in my near future, so, I will come in under my 1200 about 1050, but that will be okay for the day and if I get hungry, I still have room for a snack.
weigh in Friday, and not sure what will happen, but I am doing extra little things almost daily, I saw a maneuver on my yahoo home page today, that if I can do it, may help tighten up my abs. and that would be nice, I can do it, just need the wall behind me for stability,

Yanks------------------- Im not speed racing at all on my bike. Im riding at a nice pace - and I stop along the way for water breaks. When I get off - my legs ache a little but I must be weird because I dont mind it. I can feel the muscles in my legs..................

My nutrition has been on track and sure enough............... scale is back down at 135. Im bound and determined to see 130........................ dont know if I can maintain that but I want to see what I feel like and look like.
More importantly I want to work off the fat................... and the bike does that.

everyone stay cool................... it is 99 degrees here................... Poolside all day tomorrow for me
Be carefule everyone. Do not over do -------- stay cool and stay hydrated.

way to go Marilyn, and Jazz and Marilyn thank you for the congratulations, I can not believe it myself, but I think after 6 or 7 years it got lots easier, go now to see what the next 50 brings.
I just got back from a 35 minute walk, and I did my treadmill this morning, so got in 65 minuites, I walk 2.8 miles an hour, on the treadmill, but not that fast outside about 3800 steps per 30 minutes, I really enjoy my walks, t also do it for my soul as well as my body and heart emoticon gotta smell the flowers some times
We went out for breakfast this morning, but I was good, because I did not eat but a 1/4 of my ham, just a bit of eggs, also small amount of potatoes, but I did eat my sour dough toast 2 slices, with jelly and butter, but it all came out good, we had watermelon for lunch and I am making a salad with my left over grilled chicken I fixed yesterday,
still hoping that Friday I can change my tracker. but the other news is that the dr. called and cancelled my physical, out of the office, so I have nearly a month before I have to go, maybe I can get down to 123 emoticon again

We have some real athletes on this team! I am doing what I can and would say I am in a league of my own. LOL. I don't visualize myself as ever being a super athlete type; I just try to be consistent in my workouts. Today I did a 45 min hike before it got hot, a 45 min swim, and a 10 min core workout.

I am celebrating today. Today I attained 15,000 Spark Points. Yeah!
