Thanks for the reminder to get in strength training. I'm finally getting this moving thing down pat and doing dance and cardio. But strength just was not on my agenda.

ahhhhhh - good advice about strength training to get off that nasty plateau. i think we all are fairly comfortable getting out for a good walk ----------- or a run................ but pumping iron or getting into a good routine for strength training - not so easy.

I bought a few weight lifting DVD's at a yard sale and started using them. I think i did it about 5 times and then ----------------- just quit. I take classes at my local YMCA and they are 45 minute classes - some are step classes and some are light weights and using a bar or bands. I just signed up for a 5 week personal training session............ and Im hoping the focus will be weights since thats what I need the help in.
6 months ago I thought running was impossible and now Im doing it - and even funnier liking it. Im hoping to be saying that about strength training a few months from now. LOL

Im going to focus the April challenge on strength training................... i think we are due

Hi Eve -

I am new to this thread, but I just wanted to add that several people have told me that when they started (and continued) strength training, the weight did come off. You are so close to your goal weight I can only imagine how hard it is to get the scale to move. I am going to be more consistent with strength training to get my weight moving again.

I am hoping your DH is okay ... good luck with your weight goals.

Oh yeah....that is one way to lose weight. I have gone through stressful situations and ate very little and lost a lot of weight suddenly and people would ask how I lost the weight. I would tell them "stress" and it's not how you want to lose it~! Don't be discouraged if it comes back though. Sudden weight loss like that is usually water weight and lack of food in your digestive system that can show up on the scale. I'm glad your hubby is okay. That is really scary~

Well, I found the way to get the scale to budge.. emoticon and not in a good way...sigh..DH had a health scare yesterday. We spent half the afternoon at Doc's office & another hour or so waiting for a prescription at Walgreens. I was worried about him, but did eat lunch of home made vegetable soup, got home late, so just ate a bowl of cereal for supper & a fiber bar later. A grand total of 750 calories....I lost 1.2 pounds. I don't reccomend that method at all & I hope that when I eat normally, it will not come back...

I keep hearing again and again that women should not ever eat under 1200 calories a day. You might check on that. If so you still could be sending your body into starvation mode. And no amount of dieting or exercise will help you lose weight if you are in that mode. The body will take care of itself.

Good luck, Eve! Do let me know how it goes for you. I'm guilty of not doing enough ST, too. I did it twice last week for the first time in awhile. Gonna do it today and tomorrow, too.

Thanks, Kathy

That just might be the secret...I know that I have not been doing my weight exercise, so I am going to find the time to work it in & see if that makes a difference....stay tuned!

Eve, try shaking up your exercise routine and do something different, if you've done the same routine all this time. For example, if you walk, try walking faster for 5 min, then walk your normal pace for 5, etc. Also, try to find some hills to walk up. Add some weight training-muscles burn calories more efficiently than fat does. There are some great exercises in SP's weight/strength training section:

I hope this helps give you ideas you haven't already thought of yourself; I know you've been on SP awhile and are familiar with everything, so you may already be doing the above.

Maybe so, but most days it is around 1000 to 12000, so about right for me...and I am never feeling hungry or deprived....

I'm betting you are eating too few calories and your body is in starvation mode. Your metabolism has possibly REALLY slowed down. Been there done that! You hit a huge plateau and if you eat ANYTHING the scale goes up.

I figured the thread "I can't even seem to lose a pound" was a good place to post...
The title is very accuarte. I try to stay positve & motivated & not be negative, but I am getting to the point that I have no idea what to do...I "really" want to get rid of these last 10 pounds & more "bad fat". I am eating healthy, keeping my calories around 1000 a day, I work out at least 5 times a week. Yet, I get farther away from my goal every day! At one point, (can't remember when), I had gotten down to 115.5 & now I am back at 119.6, not a lot, but creeping up. I am at a loss as to what to do..at my age, I cannot just go out & run a marathon to burn calories...LOL. I read other people's success stories of starting out even higher than I did & reaching an even lower weight than my goal....maybe it's because I am old, I just don't know the answer anymore!
