You are right to do lunch as late in the afternoon as they will serve those portions, but I think Japanese cooking is low cal by comparison to many other nationalities. There is no fat on the foods themselves whatsoever. So the oil for stir fry is a healthy kind and proportionate.
Mexican - problem, but Japanese, you can work it out.
Just eat light the day before and there should be no problem for you. That there would be soy sauce is high salt (I swell from that) but it is a short term problem.
Relax and just feel the joy. He's proud and happy and celebrating in a healthy way. I mean, this 'ain't no pizza and cokes' kind of crap.
