Weekends are all the same to me since I retired and am alone for the last 4+ years. The only thing that changes here in our complex is the managers have the weekends off. So I just eat healthy everyday and don't really crave junk food since I came to Spark People and learned how to change my eating habits.

You will get there!! Have a good weekend.

Good for you! How to figure it out so you can stay in your calorie range. I am just getting in the swing of things... Trying to change my habits that make me want to eat and keep busy with things so my head isnt always thinking (what can I devour next)

Yep, accountability is where it's at. You only have yourself to blame what goes into your mouth.

Sounds like a great idea! Sometimes you need to feel accountable and if I go to eat something I shouldnt (maybe) I wont since I have to tell you:)

Hi Brenda! I think you are right. Most prepared food in the stores are pack with a lots of sugar & salt. Many people like to buy prepared food because it is easiest way &fast to just warm up & eat. We have to have a plan to prepare food. I have to look at the Spark peoples recipies pages to get better ideas.Maybe for Pisch will be a good idea too. Have a nice day!

Hi Pisch! How are you ?I have the same problem like you.I like to cook the easiest way that possible.Yes we can encourage each other.Support is a first think that we need.I think the first good idea is to write what we eat every day. What do you think?

I shop the perimeter of the stores and only buy fresh fruits and vegetables, chicken breasts, turkey breasts, a limited amount of red meats, 1% milk, ff sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt. I don't fry anything, use no salt and eat very little junk foods. I drink gallons of water and coffee w/ff half and half. I never drink pop

In order to eat healthy, you do need to cook because if you just buy ready to eat foods, they are loaded with salt. You can make a healthy meal in about ten minutes--whip up a salad, grill a chicken breast and a side of fresh steamed veggies. Canned foods are also loaded with salt. But if you don't cook, then I don't know what to tell you.

I agree but maybe I just need to spend more time figuring it out but its not as user friendly as I would like. I need things to be simple so I can stick to them. I am so busy in most of my life as are most other people I just want to come up with an eating plan that I am happy with/is easy to stick to/and I dont have to think much about. I dont cook hardly at all so need things that are fast and filling so I can just eat and move on. thats why I thought WW would do it just find a couple foods figure the points and repeat daily.
Any suggestions?

I don't know why you'd go pay for a program when all the tools you need are right here for free. There is no magic pill or potion that will help you--it is all in your head. So until you make up your mind to eat healthy, you will not succeed.

Happy journey.

I am sorry you feel like you have to to @WW because it costs so much and SP is free, but you have to be accountable to yourself and sometimes people need that external accountability. I guess you have to do what works for you. Best wishes.

Hi GoodAngel

I live in Mass (Berkshire county) My friend who used to be a rep for weight watchers said they are coming out with a new program in Dec but I hate to wait though I dont want to have to lose more! Maybe we could be "buddy's and encourage each other?

I don't use the word diet anymore....since it was only a timed fix to get to goal so I could eat all my favorite foods again. Now, I say I am making better choices more of the time. No black and white on or off a diet. And it's not just about food, it's about exercise, mental health...just leading a healthier lifestyle.

I think you can do it without WW, but with SP you can do it too! It is about lifestyle change and I have seen the benefits of it. Get your food tracker going, it makes a difference.

I crochet day and night so I have to keep my hands clean so I don't eat mindlessly. I have to make myself put down my work and make a meal so this works for me. I'm holding my weight at 139 for now. Still want to lose five pounds slowly.

I follow the weight watchers plan. It is the only plan that has ever worked for me. I have tried a zillion "diets" and I like ww because I can have anything in moderation. I am not good at calorie counting but keeping track of points was easy. I underlined the foods I always ate until I had actually learned what points values were for my foods. Now its just a no brainer for me. Give it a try its worth it. AND when you hit lifetime its free!

Do any of you do weight watchers? I was thinking of rejoining. It was a great kick start for me. I think I would never (not so sure but) have put the weight back on if people did not say I was getting too thin. So I got out of the habit of watching what I ate. Now I dont have my books anymore so I would have to rejoin and its not cheap:)

I am just like that. I get it in my head to really watch what I need and then I watch myself eat everything in site. If I think the word diet it makes me hungrier. and yes I do believe menopause makes it harder.

Thanks I will try that! I used to be so good at not eating but since I put the weight back on (not all of it) I just want to eat. I need to keep busy so I am going to also look into maybe doing another quilt. That takes up my nights. Busy hands stay out of the cookier jar!!

I do walk alot! I know its my choices in foods and like everyone else in this whole country money is tight so I tend to buy bad food because it costs less. I am just going to have to make the right choices regardless of what else I have to give up!
Thanks for understanding!

Whenever I feel I am starving to death I make my self have a tall glass of water and wait 30 minutes. If I am still hungry after my thirty minute time out I have something. Usually I am not starving anymore. My head tells my stomache to knock it off. This little self imposed time out seems to help me. It also makes me more conscious of real hunger because I hate to wait thirty minutes to eat. lol
I find waiting makes me think about better food choices and I dont grab junk either. It has helped me hold my weight at goal for almost 2 years now so its worth a try if you are looking for a new trick

Good Heaven's - I have the same problem. The minute I think I will carefully count my calories I am so hungry I could eat everything in the cupboard. i think Beverly has the right idea. Improving habits helps me more than counting calories. I try to get some exercise every day. Make it part of my routine. This really helps. Plus less time to eat if I am walking or going to yoga classes :)

Menopause.. it does'nt help with weight loss It's hard to loose the gut, thats my problem. It is also hard to cut down on food cuz I love to eat and cook! For myself I cut down on all starch, sugar, and do only one helping. I love to bake and only try one bite then give it all away, that part for me is easy because I'm a bartender and I work @ a Legion and there are a lot of single men so I give them all the baked goods, Best of luck to you dear. I do that too. I think there is a mental block that says "I may need that weight, you can do this later". I have found it easier to say to myself "I'm going to improve my habits" rather than "I'm going to lose weight".

Why is it whenever I get it in my head that I am going to do it I get hungrier then I was before? I gained 2 pounds since I decided that I was done with gaining anymore weight. I know it may be an excuse but is going thru menopause the cause of this hunger???
