I dropped one pound in the month of September, that is good. I have been stuck since I came back from vacation, so maybe I will start on the downward path soon. I have cut back on my exercise, I am still striving for my 10,000 steps, but, I think I am just worn out so I am putting the bootcamp challenges off until a later date.
trying to stay in my calorie range, I really don't have trouble with that, as long as I stay away from this Halloween candy that I bought for the kiddies, and I seem to be the biggest kiddie of them all. emoticon
Looking forward to October, it is going to be a butt kicker.

ok, so I lost 4 lbs. in September. It doesn't look like I'll make the 10 lb. goal by 11/1. That's ok tho, I will be happy if I lose another 4 in October. I'll take whatever I can get. Good luck to everyone else.

I ended up only losing a pound in September. Not as much as I'd hoped for, but at least I went in the right direction. Seems I'm a tortoise when it comes to weight loss. I will work at picking up the pace, but also realize that even just a pound a month is 12 pounds a year. If I gain muscle and see 12 pounds of weight loss, I'm betting I'll feel pretty good about landing there.

I ended Sept with a 1.5 lb loss. 1/4" in my waist & hips. Not very impressive but I'll take it. I've decided that I must be miscalculating my calories....either that or I'm going to have to cut down to 1000-1200 instead of 1200-1500.

I'm still motivated for Oct though!

Well, it's October all ready. I don't know how to change the month on here so I'll just leave it to NJAZZ.

I didn't lose anything but stayed the same so I'm good with that. I've had a really busy month with my garage sale and frantically making my doll dress pot holder's for the sale next month. I keep selling them almost as fast as I can make them. Not complaining tho but it would be nice to have a little display to put out. Yesterday I sold eight.

Yesterday morning the preschool daycare children came to sing for us and they are just adorable. Nineteen came and were very happy with the box of cookies we sent with them. They aren't allowed to eat any here so some of the ladies bake and some buy cookies and give them to me to box up for them. The economy must be improving because last month only fourteen children came so that is a good indication. After they are finished singing, they go around the room to shake our hands or get a hug or just walk around wide eyed wondering who all these old people are. The boys are the huggers and the girls are very formal.

Summer came back for a few more days so my tomatoes are ripening nicely. Nights are much cooler so it makes for a better night's sleep.

I hope everyone stays safe who are along the East coast in the rain and floods. That is so scary.

Good morning. I have a 2 lb loss to report this week (YAY) for a grand total of 2.5 since joining in mid-Sept. Doesn't sound like a lot but it is HUGE for me. I have been so resistant to losing weight for years. I sure hope this momentum keeps rolling like a snowball! I am so happy to have found this challenge to get me started and look forward to combining it with the next one. Good luck to all of you weighing in today. emoticon

Hi everyone...Met my 4 pound goal. Weighted this morning. Lose 2 more lbs. From 180 to 176. Thanks for all of your support and determination. Determination is what I seem to be getting from the group the most. Looking forward to the October challenge. This has been fun. I have been walking the treadmill and now plan to add the Walk A Mile DVD by Leslie Sansone.

I find it helpful to use the SP Meal Plans as a starting point for entering my food. They give me ideas & I can substitute items or add items easily enough. It does save time & lets me get on with my exercise!

Hi Joan, just wanted to let you know I am on Phase 2 as well, so we can log all that eating together. It does take a while as I end up reading heaps of motivational stuff, but am slowly getting the food on to my favourites which does make it a bit quicker. I am also tracking steps and exercise. My hip is painful for walking so i gave it a rest and did the walking in the pool today and did 2500steps in 30 minutes and burned just over 300 calories so I am pleased with that. Hope it all shows on those scales though! Keep up the good work

Well, weigh in went well- I have lost the 4 lbs for September !!! Of course, the main thing now is to keep that weight off- I have gotten rid of those 4 lbs before, and then got lazy about my eating and they came right back..

The salad sound yum ...will try it tonight. Weighed in this morning and had lost 700gm so was not totally happy but anything is good. Had a good walk yesterday but obviously need to do more. Will walk later to pick up some printer inks. It's windy and cool here today so not exactly like spring should be!

the salad I made was the spark recipe-Spinach and Tomato Pasta Salad (Chef Meg's Makeover). I used tricolor rotini, added 3 oz. of shrimp and for dressing used 2 tsp. olive oil with one clove garlic grated into it and let that set for about a half hour. then added about a tbsp. red wine vinegar to dressing. Otherwise followed recipe preparation. If you don't like as strong garlic, use half a clove. It was awesome!
Sounds like everyone is learning alot of great coping skills. Keep it up everyone. We will do it!!

Great answer to the blues, Slim!! Well done!

I've been very good at logging in every calorie this week - so, I held onto that 3 pound loss and added one more! Down to 161 this a.m. Unfortunately, no exercise for me these last 7 days. I'm hoping to feel better tonight so I can start expending a few cals as well.

Yay!!

What a weekend! Attended a karate/ kickboxing / knife defense 2 day seminar with 2 crazy fun instructors from England ( well, one is Scot ). I was the oldest lady there by decades; and among the oldest overall. Still standing at the end. Drank buckets of water, watched my eating. Did not use all the training as an excuse to pig. When I tracked; I was within my calories!
Well, I will probably take it a bit gently this week while I recover. I rarely play at that level of contact. Or roll around on the floor trying to get an advantage on someone.
Going to bed now... emoticon

A difficult day coping with the head thoughts of food. I don't feel hungry, but keep thinking about comfort food. My sister is moving back to the west coast, I am kind of down about it, but I know it is whats good for her. I will miss her. She came home to see if she wanted to move back for good. After a year, she has decided she wants to move back with her friends. So I am trying to accept something I cant change. I want to lose this weight so I keep reminding myself that is what has to be a high priority for me. Headed for the treadmill, a good slow walk will help. Raining outside.

I had the opposite day today with just us empty nesters at home and was feeling a bit down and missing the boys. Wasn't motivated to do any housework like I should have been so went for a long walk with Rex the wonder dog and than did my core work-out. After that found an awesome recipe for salad and made that. got onto my spark site and feel much better. glad I didn't try to fill emptiness with food like I do at times. today I feel like I coped much better and i'm now in a much better mood.

Had a nice Sunday dinner for my family here at my house. Its nice having them all together to laugh and enjoy each others company. We watched a 12 year old video of my sisters wedding.................. lots of changes in 12 years. For me - my hair was still all brown ( now its mostly gray) and I was still smoking so i was a whole 20 pounds lighter.
Made me think....................... why am I not working harder at trimming this fat?

Well - watching the video was extra incentive.

Well ny scale doesnt seem to be cooperating at all. Up a pound one day and down a pound the next with no real reason that I can see.
Im watching the food= and getting a good 30 mins of cardio every day with strength training every other day. I fell good - which is something to be happy about ------ but I have that thickness around the middle that I just do not like.

I dont want to look 20 ( oh yes I do but its not realistic) but I do want to look toned and trim./

working hard on it.

I weighted in this morningk I lost .02 pounds, so I guess I will hope for something good next week, that is how it is with me, very slow, and I did not measure my self, but I will first thing in the morning. I do not understand about this thread, but I am for it, and I will give it a try with help of course, I agree that group is always better than solo.

Maintaining the loss I had recently, my body shape is changing; but not the scale.Ah, well, that seems to be my pattern.

Lose the pound. Makes 2 so far. This time around I am going slow and learning from you all. I have enjoyed this challenge and look forward to seeing what you have in mind for us in October. I think the idea of being able to see my weight loss added with everyone else on the challenge would give me the incentive to lose and keep going towards my goals.

Speaking of belly sizes. That is my biggest problem. Until later, keep the faith.

so sorry for the stomach flu and absessed tooth but how funny that they caused you guys to eat less and you got a weight loss out of them..................

Now hang on to the loss and move forward............ how funny we can eat less when nature forces us to but we cant seem to gain the mind control to do it regularly.

The flu is always helpful to lose a pound or two. I had the good (?) fortune to have an abscessed tooth this week. It hit on Monday and gave me three great days to purge sugar from my system.

I'm a dental hygienist and can't expect this to happen often, so I did find something positive. Now, if I can just keep the momentum going ...

I understand I'm coming in at the end of the challenge - down 3 pounds to 162 today.

I'm excited! I lost 4.1 pounds this week. Actually I weighed yesterday and was down 3.1 but then I had a bad stomach flu yesterday and lost another pound. I really didn't want to lose it like that but I guess I'll take it. this is also weight I had just gained very recently so it comes off quicker. But I have felt very in control and much more at peace with my weight and putting it in a new prospective. I will do what is right in my lifestyle and if the weight falls it does. If it doesn't, I know I am still much improving my health and mood. My goal is to always keep that in mind. good luck to everyone weighing in today and please try to keep this thought in mind. emoticon

I weighed in this morning................ the scale is hanging right at 137 pounds............... and the belly remains at 37 inches. Just thought I would throw in the belly measurement to kick off Oct's challenge.
So I didnt lose anything . My jeans are fitting better - I feel sleeker - and Im getting in some good exercise/ Things could be worse.

Giving this last week - my ALL............ if I can lose one more pound I will have lost 3 pounds for the month and I;ll take it.

Come on everyone................... weigh in and lets see how you did.

and we are all in this together.....

Ive put in a suggestion to be able to track total pounds and inches lost on a challenge thread. Wont that be fun? (UGH) to be able to collectively track our losses for the challenge? May give us additional incentive.

last thing - I took my very first ballet class last night. It was quite an experience. GRACE thy name is not NJJAzz. LOL

UGH.......I am going in the wrong direction! I gained a lb and I thought I was eating healthy. I did have trouble getting my exercise in though (I have to take that slow post surgery). Seems like everything I tried to do this week hurt. Normally I would just give up here but I will work harder towards next weeks weigh in. I am so glad I joined this challenge and that you are all here. Good luck to all of you on the weigh in and have a great day! emoticon PS You are all right about it being REALLY hard to move the scale after a certain age!!

OK, me too! I think it may be tough after a certain age, I know it is frustrating to try, and try, and try, and... nothing! Arrrrghhhhh!
But, for me, I just am not ready to just be a quitter and accept the strange shape I have become.

Wendy...please hang in there. I feel the same way, I think I have lost and gained the same 2 lbs for 10 years and I try very hard but seems like I don't get anywhere. I am not going to give up this time!! I am going to stick to the plan even if I have some bad days. Eating right 90% of the time has to turn out to be positive one of these days, right? Maybe we will acquire the answers along the journey! I am glad you are all on the same journey with me. Great job to everyone, your energy and dedication inspires me. Have a great day!

Gosh you are very motivated with the fitness an doing so well. I think I've done OK if I get to 2 Pilates classes and do a bit of walking ,but it's fairly new for me to commit to the exercise so anything is good. I'm finding that using the nutrition site to record all my food has been a great motivator and helped me to eat well and lose weight. Am on track for the challenge so am well pleased. All the best,

I did my 60 minutes of zumba tonight and ate only abt 100 calories over my self-imposed limit. I actually feel slightly better abt my ability to lose this weight again. I see signs that it's coming off, slowly but surely...New goal: To get to one weight class at my gym each wk. That's in addition to two zumba classes and walking a total of 10 miles each wk. My zumba classmates encourage me as do you. Thx, Spark People!

Tomorrow is my weigh in day and I am reluctant to get on the scale. I have not walked for the last week. I don't know where my motivation went. Perhaps it fell out of my pocket on my last walk. I guess I'll get out there this afternoon and retrace my steps to see if I can find it. See, I can talk myself into taking my walk just as easily as I can talk my self out of it.

I got on the scale this morning and this month, so far, I have lost one pound! Yippee!!

I did my aerobic mile on Sunday and today. I was too tired yesterday. I'm not able to do aerobics when I am extrremely tired from not sleeping well.

30 minutes on TM, 20 of which was Week 2 Day 3 of Couch to 5K which went well. Did a ton of lifestyle lifting yesterday and not too sore from it. (Moving decks from our old camp to our new one, each piece 4 by 8 feet of heavy heavy cedar!) Weight stable which is to be expected after a recent loss.

got to thre gym early this morning and took a weight lifting exercise class....... a real kick butt class.

Only using 5 lb weight but lots of reps. Will increase over time but not ready for much more yet. back is acting up a little -- guess its rebelling a little.LOL

The scale is staying right at 137 which I am happy about.

Working now on better eating. I cn stay within my calorie range but need to imrpove on eating a little cleaner and a better split between carbs and protein.
Always a challenge huh?

WEIGH IN AGAIN THIS FRIDAY... maybe this time we can add a waist/belly measurement? now thats incentive

Eating on the low side............... and the scale is staying down.
I keep reading that you have to eat a little more to lose weight ------ but Im going to stick to the low wne of my calorie range for this week.
I hurt my back a little so havent been using the weights. Makes me mad because I really want to stay up with it.

everyone is doing pretty good here and our goal is certainly realistic. We are almost thru the first month of the challenge.................
We CAN DO THIS...............

Hi all! It's Monday -- time to start a new week and put last week's trials behind us; right? Thanks, DianeJoyce for the shout-out. That was so uplifting! ... I'm feeling a little better today. I still overate, but not that much at least in the grand scheme of things. Plus I did an hour of zumba tonight and outdanced quite a few of the younger gals in the class if I do say so myself!:-) I just watched Florence Henderson on Dancing with the Stars and I agree with her -- age is just a number! And tomorrow is another day... I WILL lose 5 lbs by October 1 and 10 by November 1, come hell or high water! Best to all...

Oh my 21 year old son surprised me and made me a birthday cake with homemade icing from a recipe that he found on the internet. I convinced myself that it was okay to splurge on cake yesterday. My older son also came up to visit from out of town and we kind of had a splurge all weekend. Well the cake was so delicious I had another piece tonight! Back in the saddle (and on the scale) again tomorrow! emoticon I really want to get back to the challenge.

Struggling big-time with the scale. Clothes are fitting slightly better though, so although I'm mostly frustrated, I'm sometimes (almost) encouraged. ... I'm overeating consistently (stupidly), but exercising a lot. Lots of cardio (averaging two 60-minute zumba classes and four 60-min walk) each week, but only one day (30 min) of strength training. I know I need to change the mix... Will work on that and the "mindless eating" this week. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day.

You guys may really think Im nuts but when you have that strong urge for chips ---------------- try something a little healthier like cheerios or wheat chex. I completely got rid of my salt-chips craving by substituting cheerios when the urge hit.
Unfortunately now I eat dry cheerios like 3 times a day as a snack. At least its a healthier snack than salty-fatty chips.

Try it. takes a little while to get used to but eventually it sinks in and works............

Good for you SuzieQ. Your ability to skip the chips inspires me as well as the 149 on your ticker. I can't wait to see 149 again! I think I will skip all of the chips next time instead of 3/4 of them. Haha. Hooray to everyone for sticking with the challenge this week. emoticon

Wow - everyone is doing well - this ends my first week and next week I start exercising! This part will be a challenge with work - I much rather exercise early in the AM but a while ago joined a women's club that doesn't open in time for me to do this...I may end my contract with them and go for a new place that is 24/7!!! Watching the calories - skipped the "chips" part of the fish and chips when out last nite!!!

I lost 1 pound, I reweighed this morning, and it was still gone, so I adjusted my weight, my inches stayed the same, but I am really tackling this waist/belly with lots of ab exercises and so I have high hopes of reporting a loss of inches real soon.
I made my 10,000 steps, 11241

yesterday was a big exercise day
treadmill 30 minutes
walking 35 minutes
bootcamp challenges (2) 17 minutes
aerobics class 60 minutes

I am mostly getting back very slowly into exercise. I am trying to do 10k steps a day to start. I don't have a scale. Do you think that it's important to go by weight loss or by how clothes fit. I do have some snug clothes I would like to feel right in, so that will have to be my goal.

Well..
No movement on the scale this week, but this is the week everyone started to notice and comment on my weight loss. At the preschools, at church, at a suppliers. So, even with no movement with the weight, I know changes are happening. My clothes are fitting differently, and I got into a pair of slacks that have been waiting in the closet.
