LisaL- You see, you are losing! My pie chart was way over on fat today by the way! Keep tracking!

Jennifer and Vicky-The scale going down is a nice validation of our efforts. Congratulations! I need three more pounds to get to 70 LESS!

Heather-Once again, just reading your "to do" list is making me feel as exhausted as if I had done all that. Where do you get the time and the energy?

Want to Run--Nice job staying in range. Cheescake Factory? I am skipping my meal and having a dessert for dinner! Well, it is Cheesecake Factory!

I added a new exercise disguised as FUN into my arsenal--Hula Hooping! I did over a half an hour today!

emoticon emoticon I hope everyone had a good weekend. Pretty good here. Made a big pot of white chicken chili (broth based) for the week. Took my oldest daughter to a movie to celebrate the great job she did on her chemistry final - class has been a huge struggle for her, so when she got a 93%, we were so proud! She's been wanting to see Mockingjay. We always buy our tickets ahead online, but since it's been out for 2 months, I didn't think it was necessary. When we got to the theater, it was sold out. Drat. Only other theater showing it was 2 hours later. We had planned to eat dinner at home after the movie, but had to shift gears and take her out to dinner instead. Cheesecake Factory (give me strength!) Splurged and had some cheesecake, but for dinner had a very nice (and reasonable) chop salad with chicken. Not surprisingly, my fat % was too high today, but I somehow managed to keep my total calories in range! Either way, we had a great time. It's always nice to take one of the kids for some one on one time. Since she's my mini me, we always have fun.

Well Yesterday I did something wild and shave the side of my hair on one side only. I wanted a new look. I love it and so does hubby and my kids. I will post a pic of my new hair style. Anyway, I am trying to get back on track with the program after being sick with the flu for 4 days. I still have a stuff up head but I am able to walk around and try to get stuff done. Yea my hubby did his best to keep the house clean and he watch the kids and all. But I am a clean freak and very picky on how I like things lol. So I did some cleaning and laundry today. I can't wait till we get our money in either tomorrow or Tues so we can go food shopping. I want to get back to eating low carb again. I notice in the morning I am not hungry at all. I am not a breakfast person for some reason. So I am only eating lunch and dinner and to snacks.
Well it kind a warm outside today we reach the mid 60's. I hope it says all week long I hate the cold weather. My oldest son who 22 called me and he suppose to be getting snow. I was like you can keep it up there in Elmira, NY. He doing good and keeping warm. He calls me once a month to let us know he okay.
As for the rest of my kids well they all doing good and getting big. Karlton who is 13 is very smart in Math and Science and he loves sports. He is coming out of his shell and acting like a teen. I swear my daughter Jen who is 11 keep getting taller every day. Bre who is 10 is very smart and loves being a tom boy lol. Cameron who is 9 loves to joke and act chilly. He is doing very well in reading. Tiffany who is 7 is also smart and doing her best. She loves to dance and sing. Makayla who is 6 is a mommy and daddy girl she wants to go where ever we go.
Well things been going great with hubby as we talking and communicating more. He dealing with depression and a lot of pain and his diabetes. But I am glad he trying to communicate more.
He also trying to support me in my weight loss as he knows I get frustrated when I don't lose weight and right now all I seem to do is gain and lose and gain and lose lol. I really do miss exer cising but until I can get my breathing under control so I am not having wheezing attracts doctor said no exercising. Just to watch what I eat and drink and limit my sugar and carbs by just eating healthy. So that what I am trying to do. Thanks for letting me rant on and on..

I am a Beautiful Woman in side and out, I don't have a weight problem "I have a problem with my weight"

I love making new spark friends, so please feel free to drop me a line and say hello. Keep the spark going..

Sandy, hope you feel better. We had the flu got through our house over Christmas. Bad time to be cranky (and worse), but then again a good time since there's no school and lots of days off. I started it on December 11th and was actively sick for a week and still coughing for four weeks after. Both daughters got a watered-down version more like a cold. Son go it, but has such a high tolerance for pain that he did okay. Only concern was he kept spiking high fevers and that's always scary for us (he got an uncontrollable high fever as a child and that's what caused his seizure disorder). Hubby got it the worst, I think. I say I think because he is a man and illnesses turn him into a dying man, the world is over, no, don't bother taking care of me, just let me go. That kind of man. So it could have been mild, but we'll never know.

Today is more like a real Alaskan winter. Over the weekend we got six inches of the predicted eleven inches of snow. Right now it's 3 degrees and nice and sunny. The sled dogs are so happy! Tonight the low will be -8 degrees. A little too cold for me (like about 78 degrees too cold). Yesterday's high temperatures in the state had a 96 degree spread with the highest high at 51 degrees and the lowest high at -45 degrees. A couple of places with wind chill were -55 degrees and colder. Guess I shouldn't complain.

And speaking of dogs, time to go check on them. Happy Sunday, everyone!

Never give up, never quit.

Florida was great! Back home today and now it's time to get back to normal. Going to hit the gym in a couple of hours when I take my daughter to basketball practice. I met my goal of losing 70 lbs by my trip! And maintained it (it was only 3 days but hey I did it). On my way to work on my next 10 lb loss.

Good morning! So much to do today! Bathroom, kitchen and bedroom all need good cleanings, and of course there's laundry. I also have to squeeze some grocery shopping in!

My sister and her hubby want us to go see a movie with them today, but all I really want to do is stay home and catch up on Doctor Who on my DVR!

Sandy, I hope you feel better! There's a lot of sickness going around. I stopped at the nursing home yesterday to visit my mom, and there are big signs on the doors that they have norovirus and the flu there. You have to wear a mask when you go in, and the residents are all quarantined to their rooms. Unfortunately, my mom is one of the sick ones. Hope she doesn't get too sick!

I better get off the computer and get busy! Hope you all have a great day!

Heading to the rink to ice-skate at. 9:30 p.m. because I have to practice my lesson, and I already tracked and ate the calories for it. Otherwise, I might have been heading off to bed.

...I got back home already, and it seems the power at home was out the entire time I was skating, so it was a good use of my time. The ice rink had lights and refrigeration, so the wind only knocked out power in the area around my neighborhood.

DH says the power came on as I walked in the door to our house. He had no Internet, and no TV.

Of course, I could not paddle today because the wind was forecast to be 15 mph, and I would not risk my safety. I like the water to be glassy, smooth.

Heather--You got the JOB! emoticon

I cant wait to hear if this works for you. I also see an RD. I'm a vegetarian so fat in my diet mainly comes from nuts, avocados etc. My RD doesn't seem to be worried about fat, but does worry about protein and calories. I wonder if I should eat less fat too regardless of the source. Good luck to you!!

I had to do a search to find when I last posted! How pathetic is that? I can't answer everyone personally, but I can say "GO PATRIOTS!" Can't say it too loud because our state is a Seahawks state (Alaska -- they're the closest we can get). Made me gag yesterday when I walked into Target and they had a huge Seahawks display. But to those of you that are Seahawks fans, congratulations.

Off to my daughter's school for movie night -- it's the fundraiser for the second grade class for their field trip to the zoo. It's worth it to suffer through "Finding Nemo" and pizza. Happy weekend, everyone!

I went to a free weight loss clinic tonight. The registered nurse/dietician assured us that if we kept our total fat grams under 5 grams per serving, or 35 grams a day, that would drop pounds. She sounded like she knew what she was doing, so I am going to try this approach and see what happens. I go back to her in a month. Curious to see if this works any better than what I have been doing? Happy weekend all!

Can't believe I last checked in on Monday and it's now Friday. I am still adjusting to everything that life is throwing my way. Yesterday, I threw a party (b/c it was already scheduled before we knew DH would need surgery)...I was SUPER busy with preparations/hosting and clocked 29,108 steps, 13.78 miles and 6 plus hrs of tracked movement. I think that is a record for me, I'll have to check, but who knows when I will have time. I miss my time connecting with each of you & ability to Spark more! Of course this is my weekend to work, so off to nap. wishing you all well and to stay the course!!

Cora-check out the menu to the restaurant ahead of time and make your selection before you even walk in. You can also ask once everyone has has some bread or chips if they can just remove the rest to remove the temptation to munch. Good luck and happy planning!

Heather-Congrats on the new job and the extra $ it will bring, start planning that active vacation for the fall!

I have had a decent week but boy does it feel like it just dragged on and on. I took my dog on her daily walk (all but the day it was pouring down rain) but have not done any other exercise additions and I really need to. We all have the thing that keeps us on track and for me if I am working out it spurs me on to better watch and record my food so I don't undo all the good I just did with the workout. This weekend I will workout both days-which means I'm already 1/2 way to my goal for the week with cardio and I can easily complete 2/20 minute strength sessions while I watch TV

Take care all and have a wonderful weekend-a HEALTHY weekend!

So I snuck and peaked at the scale early my normal weigh in day is Monday but I wanted to see and sure enough I lost a pound. I am hoping it will read another one by Monday. That means since January 5th I have now lost 7 pounds. YAHHHHH! I am so happy. I hope they all come off this easy. I am now working out 6 days a week. Because I just started back after not working out for 6 months I am keeping my workouts simple. Walk aerobics and wii dance. I rotate days and add 10 minutes of strength training in 3 days a week. I am really hoping that the remaining 73 pounds will be this easy.

I am a little scared for the weekend because that is when I am not as structured. I know I will be doing the cooking tomorrow so that won't be too bad but on Sunday my family takes turns cooking and visiting my Grandma so I never know how to plan my day calorie wise. I plan on getting a great workout in tomorrow.

Todays food plan is :

Yogurt for breakfast
Crab salad for lunch and snack
Steak, Corn and pasta for dinner

I still have room for something else if I want so not sure what that will be yet! I need more fruit and veggies so maybe I will add some fruit in for snacks

It's Friday! Yay!

I got some great news earlier this week. I'm officially moving into the Audit department on February 2. I'm really excited about it! It happened pretty fast - I only applied last Wednesday (at the urging of the director of that department) and got my offer on Tuesday. It's a great department with more days available to work at home and a great team. Plus a $2 per hour raise! emoticon

The girls in my current department are having a carry-in in honor of my leaving. There is ALL KINDS of tempting food over there! I did cave and have a slice of breakfast pizza. I'm hoping I can stay away from there for the rest of the day!

Happy Friday to all =) I am also glad the weekend is finally here. Going out for supper with a group of friends tonight and as it is my first meal out since I started the spark meal plan, I am hoping I can make some healthy meal choices while I am at the restaurant! Wish me luck!

What a great day! I'm in Florida for a work conference. Went from a place that was 30 degrees to 80! I've seen a lot of people from our home office who haven't seen I've started my weight loss journey. I got so many compliments for my weight loss. I also had to give my id to the hotel clerk when I checked in. She noticed I lost weight from my picture! It was the greatest feeling!

Thank you for your reply. I figure one day at a time. I'm good with exercise, been going to the gym 3-4 days per week, just working on the food but like I said I am staying within range most days.

I am also finding my taste seem to be changing. I use to love, love, love sweet tea..the sweeter the better, now I am finding it too sweet at most places and need to mix with half unsweet so I am seeing changes.

Thank you again so much!!!

I had a mini-binge tonight. I'm experiencing a lot of personal stress right now, and after my phone buzzed a text for the gazillioninth time today, I ate two pieces of pizza. Inhaled I should say.

BUT...this actually turned out to be a blessing. It showed me that I'm progressing for the first time, I think. I've lost weight in the past but could never handle failure...probably why I could never stick with anything.

Today, I stopped at only two pieces (not the whole pizza like I would have in the past). I also don't feel guilty, and immediately went back to drinking my water. I recognized that it was just a couple of pieces of pizza, not an epic lifetime failure, spoiling-my-entire-diet-so-I-might-as-well
-have-two-pieces-of-cheesecake-and-a-b

LisaL,
I go over my fat "allowance" every day. I eat avocado instead of cheese, butter, or other fats. I also eat an ounce of nuts almost daily. That is fat. Make sure you are going over with good fats, like avocado, nuts, and olive oil.

I recommend you stop focusing on meeting that measure for now. I believe that staying in calorie range without going hungry all day is a great accomplishment. Work toward that. What I learned quickly is to control my portions and to choose salads, fruits, and quinoa over rice, pasta, and sugary treats.

You are making changes, but you don't have to do them all at once. It is enough to notice that if you have a ginormous grilled chicken salad, you feel fuller than if you eat a kid's meal at McDonalds with those barbie-doll-sized order of fries.

You wil notice a tiny piece of chocolate is the same calorie count as a whole entire apple. You start to make those transitional choices as you figure out that you will still be hungry after the nibble of chocolate vs not hungry after the apple. Sometimes I have calories enough to do both.

I have had one or two kid's meals at Mc Donalds in an entire year vs a whole bunch of grilled chicken salads for lunch. This gradual change will take care of the fat situation if that is your focus after you get to be consistent with the calorie range and losing from it steadily.

I lost three pounds this year already between Jan. 1- Jan. 21, which I did while still going over on my fat every day.

I get really excellent blood work results at my annual physical, too!

Those nutritional limits are not absolutes. They are guides. I just look at that pie chart and try for equal parts protein, carbs, and fats. The Zone is 30-30-40, so it is almost that the way I do it.

To add to my naughtiness, I lost my first twenty pounds at SP with tracking calories and staying in my recommended range and nothing else. I ate my own food choices, and I did not exercise. I remember when Sparkers were schooling me on adding in exercise before I hit a plateau, but twenty with tracking alone is quite awesome.

After twenty pounds, I celebrated with Stand up Paddle boarding, and fell in love with exercise disguised as FUN. I paddle a lot now! It is my thing!

Hello everyone and Happy Hump Day emoticon

I had planned on checking in once a week on Saturdays (that's the day my journey began on) but in looking at my nutrition tracking I am getting discouraged and need some advice/opinions/thoughts of others please.

I keep going over my fat allowance every day. I think I have stayed in range two times. I have stayed within my calorie range almost every single day, but the fat allowance is been off every day.

It's obvious the foods I eat have too high of a fat content. I assume the consensus will be to stop eating such fatty foods emoticon

It's a daily struggle for me.

How much will that being off effect my weight loss?

I'm trying to make changes I can live with. I don't believe I can adhere to a strict diet forever so I am trying to make changes that last. Obviously fat is an issue for me. It scares me to think how much I must have been consuming before I was aware and tracking it.

Thank you in advance for any input. I appreciate it greatly.

I think "feeling up" an Asian gentlemen's backside is absolutely hysterical! You go girl!

Today, I got my dentures. I haven't had teeth in my mouth in seventeen years. No one could tell though. Now, however, gravity is starting to pull down on my mouth and it makes me look like I am frowning all the time. My husband paid for me to have them so I stopped fighting him and did it. They are doing ok. I was a little afraid they might pop out of my mouth while doing Jazzercise but they didn't. Talking is quite weird. Doubt that I can recite the Sally Sitting by the Seashore tongue twister, but maybe eventually.

Welp, getting ready for work. Take care SP!

Happy to report 6lb weight loss since January 4. Not so happy that it won't show on my ticker as I made a mistake converting stones to pounds. Went swimming today using a swimtag to track my swim, unfortunately the pool was so busy the swimtag suffered a bit of interference. It took me forty minutes on-line to sort out the unknown laps.
PEACELOVEJOY2 I think your funny moment outweighs mine. The biggest risk when doing backstroke in a busy pool is feeling someone's backside as you catch them up. In my case it was an elderly Asian gentleman. I think in future I will do backstroke in the fast lane, even if I have to duck back into a slower lane for breast stroke.

Robyn, making wiser choices.

Sparkzy2002 that is great!!!!!!! Keep it up.

I'm off to Florida in the morning for 3 days for work training. It is a pretty nice resort and I can't wait to see what their fitness room looks like. Got plans to hit it tomorrow afternoon and Saturday afternoon. Just gotta figure out how to fit it in on Friday!

Sandy1380 - congrats on the not smoking. I quit 3 years ago. You can do it! My secret is I hide from all of my smoking friends for bout 3 months. I did not want to be tempted to fail so i avoided them. But now I am fine around them. Every once in a while I want one but not often.

So I am happy to report that I have lost 6 pounds since January 5th and I am hoping for another 2 pounds by this Monday. Though I am not sure if it will happen since the long weekend combined with my kids birthday party sleepover. UGHHH! But I have been doing really well for the past 3 days so hopefully I can undo those chips I ate this weekend.

I have been doing really well with both excercise and diet. My weekends are the hardest for me because I do well with structure and there is none on the weekends. So this weekend my husband is taking my son to several different events so i think I am going to take my daughter to the pool at the rec center for exercise and fun.

Just saying hi today and wanting to share that I have lost 8 lbs in my first week and a half here! It seems like a lot considering I was going to be happy with just 2 lbs a week =) I will take it. I am following the meal plan so far until I get more comfortable with making healthier choices for myself. Still struggling a little with adding the exercise part to my day but working on that by taking a short walk during my lunch break at work.
Have a great day everyone!

WOW...has it REALLY been a week since I last checked in here? What's my deal? I guess I need a good kick in the booty! But don't do it too hard, I am SORE from lunges and squats! LOL! :)

Since it's been so long since I checked in, I won't try to reply to all of you individually (or I'd be here all day), but know that I did read through ALL of the posts since my last! It was quite a week! Lots of good things and lots of challenging things! Thanks for making this place such an awesome place to chat...you all are so awesome!

I DO have to reply to PEACELOVEJOY2 and say WOW on the blowout on the pants! That WOULD make for an interesting morning for sure! :)

Hope you all have a great week, keep on going on the progress--so many of you are doing GREAT and I'm so proud of you! WOO HOO!

Happy Terrific Tuesday! Want to know what happened to me at Jazzercise this morning? Well, I am going to tell you. She (the instructor) told us to lunge to the left. I did and my crotch on my exercise pants lunged right open! I finished Jazzercise with my rear hanging out! Boy O Boy what a morning!

Hope all is well in SP world.......

Good morning! What a busy, fun weekend!

Gave DH his birthday gift. He was SO excited and surprised. Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Jenna Coleman (Clara from Doctor Who) will be there signing autographs, and there are several voice actors and comic artists that he's excited about.

I KNOW! I totally AM the best wife ever! emoticon

In other news, my oldest DS told me this weekend that he's planning on asking his GF to marry him. I'm ecstatic! He's still planning on the "when." I mentioned that Valentines day is coming up, but he is considering waiting until this summer so he can do it a Busch Stadium. They're both big Cardinals fans. (It will totally kill me if he waits that long!)

Took my youngest DS to the Children's Hospital yesterday. Keeping everything the same for awhile, although there is a shortage on couple of his meds. (methotrexate, which is a type of chemo, and Tomletin, which is an anti-inflammatory). I really don't understand medication shortages. One theory I've heard is that pharmaceutical companies allow shortages to happen to drive prices up. Being on the buying end of this, I think that's a valid theory!

Well, that catches me up. Hope you all have a great day!

Why or Why did I let those of you on this forum go? I used to LOVE coming onto here and seeing how everyone was doing! The encouragement found within this group is beyond measure. Thanks everyone, truly.

I am an all or nothing type of gal. I either go gun ho, or go gun NO. That is one of the things I am going to work on this time. A couple of setbacks should not derail your attempts at a healthier life style. I was walking the track this morning but it is still too icy and I bout busted my behind. It was rather funny watching my dog, Bear attempt to run on it. He wiped out several times. Due to this, I am now going to the gym instead.

Happy Monday ALL!

Good Morning Team 40 Something~ Happy Monday. Wow what a week I have had. DH is home, surgery went well, thank goodness! I so appreciate all the prayers, comments to my page and goodies! I love the spark support! emoticon

So it's the Seahawks vs. The Patriots!!! Go Patriots! emoticon

My exercise took a hit, but I still manage 15,000 steps each day or more except for yesterday only 10,000...but I was/am exhausted. Food choices took a hit here & there, but the worry provided a loss of 2 lbs... emoticon

Let's start the week off right! emoticon

I'm going to Florida on Thursday for work training. My goal was to have lost 70 lbs by the time I leave. I'm so close! May have to step up my game this week!

Well, we did have a one man team, so it was a miracle we held off Seattle for as long as we did. Silver lining...I get to root for Pete Carroll now. He was coach at USC when my daughter attended. He is GORGEOUS!

Oh and I went paddling yesterday and today. I saw pelicans, some other sea birds which I cannot name, but they were lovely to pass on the water, and a sea lion that was doing the breath or is it breast stroke?...and could not be bothered with me. I also saw two actual seahawks yesterday and one of them again today. I took that as a sign...

LisaL--I go over my fat every single day, but I focus on calorie range. I gave up processed carbs like rice, pasta and bread, so something's gotta give. It is a learning process, and now you probably learned that portion size will be easier to change than fat, sugar, and such.

Lost 3 pounds my first week. Woo Hoo!!!

Now if I can just tackle my fat intake. I thought sugar was my culprit, but keeping track of my food intake my first week has shown me that I go over my allowed fat every single day but one day this week.

Maybe week two will be better?

Happy Sunday Everyone! Today is playoff Sunday for my team! I am up early getting everything done so I can enjoy the game! FVUSCMOM,
Thanks for your note! I am definitely in the early stages of getting back on track. My water intake had fallen off and I've been really good about getting that in every day now. I am tracking calories most days, still eating more sugar than I should, but at least the amount of calories are down and my fruits and veggies are up! Right now I have my weekly tap dance class. It probably doesn't even burn that many calories, but I really love it! And I usually do cardio 2 other days per week right now. My first week back I lost 4 pounds and now nothing this week, even up a pound, but my body fat has dropped a little. It's been a LONG time since that's happened, so I'm taking that as a good sign and will just keep plugging away, adding in new healthy habits as I go. I've now logged in 7 days in a row and I will try to keep that streak going! Thanks for the encouragement and great job with your progress! emoticon emoticon

This has been a crazy day! I went back on blood pressure pills yesterday. I hated to do it but had to choose my health over my pride. I took a pill last night then took one again this morning. Should have thought not too take 2 pills so close together. Duh! It was just normal to take this morning. Got a good work out in this morning and come home and I'm dizzy and scared I'm going to pass out. Glad my mom is a nurse and had her come over and take my blood pressure. Needless to say it was very low. Guess my butt is going to be sitting around doing nothing today!

Peacelovejoy and Want to Run,
I remember you both from last year, and it doesn't seem that long ago...I encourage you both to stick around and check in with the team, just to keep up the habit, even if work and PT get in the way of exercise. Also, try sticking to only one thing first for a while, and add in the extra stuff along the way after you get used to the first one.

I started with 8 glasses of water before I joined SP. I had to make that deal with my doctor to avoid HBP medications. By the time I joined SP, I had the no sodium and 8 glasses of water habit.

My first habit at SP was just checking in with one team and my login points wheel to keep that streak going as long as I could. My second habit at SP was to log everything I ate and drank, every day. I wasn't as focused on the calorie range as I was on just getting honest about my eating choices. Seeing it there in the tracker is what ended up being the source of my making little detours in my food choices, until I was sticking in range most of the time, or just outside of it if I missed it. I haven't had a fried vietnamese eggroll or a donut in a full year. I miss those.

After two full months, I had lost twenty pounds, without any exercise at all! I really believed I could go on that way, but I decided to celebrate the first twenty pounds with a lesson in Stand Up Paddle Boarding. I got hooked on it! I kept it up every Sat./Sun. from then until now. I am going out paddling all three days of this long weekend.

I still have my streaks with tracking food and water, no sodium. Now, I have figured out that I get to eat more if I keep in motion and track that, too. I got an extra 500 calories every Sat./Sun. from paddling. When it rained in December, I was worried about how I was going to earn those extra calories without paddling, so I dug out my roller blades and got myself an unlimited pass to the local skating rink. It is OK, but I thought, Ice Skating might be more fun to learn, so now I am in an adult beginning class on a weeknight. It doesn't interfere with my paddling, and if I want to do it, what is stopping me?

Here it is a year later, and I have 24 pounds remaining to get to my maintenance goal. I could not have gotten here without all of you, including both of you when I first came here.

I believe in you both, because we have each other to lean on, SP tools, and this team to get us to goal.

I love the taste of food, but I love the taste of life even better!
