I loved Katescape's blog. Thanks for mentioning it.

I'm with you on the house cleaning, April. When I met my now husband, I made it crystal clear that I was not Suzie Homemaker and though my house is clean, it's not sterile by any means. I have piles on every flat surface I can find, and I like it that way. I liked the lived-in look. If I want sterile, I'll go visit the hospital. Now that I'm not working, hubby thinks that the house cleaning bug will bite me and we'll live in an immaculate dust-free zone. NO! I do clean, and I will go on cleaning binges, but I can go months without vacuuming (having hardwood floors helps) and not feel guilty. Shame on me.

Now that we're moving (eventually, but there is a very dim light at the end of the very long tunnel), I have cleaning binges that I call "Throwing my life away". I went through a couple storage boxes of personal papers, etc., and it was amusing in a shocking way (or shocking in an amusing way). I found my letter of recommendation from an employer, and with it was my last pay stub before I quit (I was relocating, couldn't take the job with me). The date on the stub was December 31, 1999. Wow. Not even in this century. I found old bills from when we moved up here in 2006. Really? Do I need those? I found my oldest daughter's baby teeth -- she's nineteen! I have a birth announcement that was "unable to deliver" from ten years ago. Am I expecting the person to show up so I can hand it to them? It helps to move. If I didn't, I'd be the crazy old paper lady.

And speaking of cleaning, there are two dirty pizza pans calling my name. Maybe I should change my name -- then I wouldn't have to clean them.

happy Thursday, everyone!

Never give up, never quit.

Happy Thursday 40 Somethings!

Katescape wrote a great inspiring blog! You all should check it out!

Kate and Karen - can you two come over to my place and continue your house cleaning streak please? I promise you a great feeling of accomplishment when you do! emoticon

I do not like cleaning at all and do only enough to get by! I am thankful my husband shares my philosophy and also shares responsibility so when we do clean, we clean together. We set it up kind of like a race, how quickly we can get it done and then go out and have some fun!

Yesterday was a long day. Got up at 4 am, then spent the day flying to my company's main office, meeting with team, then flying home. I did sneak in a nice walk in the city where my office is, and lunch and dinner at my fav organic vegan restaurant in town before flying home. It was quite a long busy day. Glad to be working from home today. I am trying to get caught up on all my spark mail now! I've made it well known within my team that I eat a plant based whole foods diet, so that helped with getting in my healthy meals. And I gave the impression I had an earlier flight so I could leave a little earlier to fit in my walk. Also while at the airport in the early a.m. and late evening, I walked loops around the terminal until my plane boarded.

What are your strategies for sneaking in exercise on busy days?

I hope you all have a great Thursday, taking healthy steps toward your goals.

FVUSCMOM: OMG! How unfortunate about your plumbing issues and your very long day, at least you and DD got to catch up. Good luck today getting it all resolved and with your night time activities(hate mosquitoes- be careful)

ARKAIOS: A clean house is a happy house. Which helps me to have a happy mind and relaxes me too. Good for you and all you accomplished...I bet it looks grand!

I spent my morning cleaning and scrubbing in preparation for my DGD 4th bday this Saturday. Tomorrow I will tackle the man cave/basement rooms and then get my errands done. I am heading out in a bit to catch what might be the last beach day of the year here on Cape Cod with some friends. Hope the sun is shinning on you where ever you are... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hey team. Sorry I was MIA for a couple days. My ONE vacation day turned into TWO and I was a cleaning, sorting, moving lunatic! I don't know WHY, but when I'm down or out of sorts, I feel BETTER by deep cleaning my house...and I did. Shampooed carpets and furniture, sorted through our newly "spare" bedroom due to DD moving out recently, cleaned, sorted through tons of stuff. Moved furniture in and out of the living room, moved furniture in and out of the spare room, sorted and cleaned my bathroom (this took me THREE HOURS --just to give you an idea how bad it was). It feels AWESOME to have it done!

Hope all of you are doing well..sounds like we've all had a bit of life going on for sure! Hope everyone is having a great day. Keep on keepin' on!

Hi Team,
I missed my SP login yesterday...What it takes to miss a SparkPeople Login is apparently an unfortunate slab leak. A plumbing issue came up on Monday, but I just turned off the water main and called the plumber. Then, I went paddle boarding and did my SP tracking.

Diagnostics on the plumbing took place the following day, Tuesday. That was yesterday. I was at work until 3:30 and the plumbers were at my house after that until around 7. Then, I had to go to the big box store to get some water bottles for the refrigerator because my plumbers planned to do the repair work TODAY, and I had nothing to offer them YESTERDAY in the SWELTERING heat. I felt terrible. If the water main is off, they can't get water from the tap.

At the big box store, I picked up the water and enjoyed the A/C, which I will not be able to install at my house this year because of the slab leak. The store closed at 8:30, so I had to grab Taco Bell for Dinner and unload the car around 9:00. By the time everything was done and water was chilling, it was after 10.

I was going to do my SP tracking, but DD called just at that moment and stayed on to hear about my life and to share hers for over an hour. We are both working from home today. Tonight, I have to go back to my school site for Back to School Night. It will be dusk, which is when the mosquitos are biting, and Santa Ana has the distinction of being the West Nile Virus epicenter for the county right now. I will wear my OFF fan, with fresh batteries and a new repellent disc.

I have to do my SP login right now, or it will be two days missed in a row due to the plumbing. The leak sort of took away my DH vacation afterglow. He said, "If only we had not gone to Maui, this plumbing issue would be no big deal."

I said, "Thankfully, we got the Maui trip in before this plumbing issue happened." I did not lose my vacation afterglow. It is times like these that I realize how grateful I am for the opportunities.

I love the taste of food, but I love the taste of life even better!

So today was my follow up appt with the MD and I have been cleared to go to occupational health to get the final approval to go back to work. Fingers crossed I can get to work later this week. Since I was ill at the time of my DGD 4th birthday, we postponed her party, but it's back on for this Saturday and I have been feverishly planning her Frozen themed birthday party all morning! Just ordered the specialty cake from the bake shop..can't wait to see her smiling face. It brings me such joy!

FVUSCMOM: So happy to be sharing in your joy! emoticon

APRIL: emoticon job!

Heading out for a walk in a bit. Meeting up with some friends since I still can't run yet!

Happy Monday 40 Somethings!

Justbea1 - way to go on pushing through and getting in that run! emoticon

The banking method really worked for me this past weekend. It is now Monday morning and I feel great about the choices I made. Technically, the calories I consumed this weekend and the calories I consumed the rest of the week probably didn't change all that much from previous weeks, but my psychology did. And I love that! I was able to reframe my choices in a healthy way and it made a big difference. No more guilt!

Here's the article SparkPeople's Dietician Becky Hand wrote about banking calories in case anyone is interested:

Hope everyone has a great week. Let's make good choices! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Cullwer (Kate)- Do not fret about the scale. It does not reflect the work you are doing to control portions, drink your water, exercise, cut the sodium, and make healthier lifestyle choices instantaneously. Keep doing it, and the scale will catch up with you. There is definitely a lag.

This is why Spark streaks are important. One of mine is simply, login. Click the little icon, and collect your login points, which starts the ticker counting that streak (246 Days). If you login, you may as well track every tiny morsel before you watch TV at the end of the day. Nutrition tracking (streak-# of days in a row tracking) doesn't mean you will always stay in calorie range, but it does show you the difference between fries, and a lovely salad (which leads to a streak--eating fruits and vegetables) . Then, you will notice that it gets easier to drink your water if you click every time you down a glass (another streak- # of days you meet the water intake). I don't leave the dinner table until eight are down. That is when I finish my nutrition tracker entries, too-- Staring down my water.

Instead of focusing on the scale, focus on your spark streaks first and foremost. Watching the scale is like watching and waiting for water to boil. Watch your streaks, and see the scale move when the streaks are sparking positive!

Justbea1---congratulations on pushing through on your workout today! Thank you. I took SUP lessons as a non-food reward for losing my first 20 pounds sparking! Then, I signed up for weekend MeetUp paddling rental with a group online. I never skipped a weekend rental MeetUp. After losing 40 pounds, I bought my own board and paddle as another non-food reward.

I was able to go out and SUP all summer at 6:30 in the morning any day I wanted, and I lost 16 more pounds up until today. On our family vacation, it was so beautiful in Maui, that I got up at 6:00 and walked the beautiful coastal trail for 1-2 hours each morning for ten days. Then, we spent very active days there SCUBA diving, treading water in the ocean, snorkeling, and SUP-ing, too, although it was harder there trying to stand up on the ocean. I do it at home on a harbor that is set back deep from the ocean, so it can get glassy smooth and calm early in the morning.

None of what I am doing would be possible if I had not been using SparkPeople to track nutrition and lose that first twenty pounds between January and March. Oh, and I am nearing menopause, so all of this makes a great distraction for the changing season of my life.

Good evening, everyone!

FVUSCMOM-- Wow! You are such an inspiration! What an amazing transformation! I've always been curious about paddleboarding. How did you learn to do it?

My update is this: I REALLY did not want to do my day 3 of week 2 run today and put it off and put it off, but I DID it. Once I was out there I was happy that I was running/walking. I'm so happy I didn't give in to my desire not to go.

Thanks, ya'll!

It is officially the end of eight months and the beginning of nine for my SP membership.

I have nutrition tracked almost all but ten days when I was on vacation. I have finished eight or more glasses of water most of 246 days. I do not use salt in my cooking or on my plate anymore, except on popcorn, rarely. I gave up bread (except toast on weekends for breakfast), pasta, rice, potatoes, candy, and fried foods.

I never used to exercise, and now I do stand-up paddle-boarding every chance I get, and every Saturday and Sunday. I did six hours this weekend.

I have lost 56 pounds (7lbs. per month average loss), and dropped from 2X and size 20 pants down to a petite large, and 14 sized pants. I left the plus sizes section of the store, and I am no longer at an obese BMI. I am at a BMI of overweight.

I belong to this team, my joining class of Jan. 12-18, 2014 team, and two others that I actively participate on daily.

SP and paddleboarding get the credit for getting me here and keeping me moving forward to my goal of 90 pounds Less...34 to go!

Keep sparking positive!

Well done Kate on the cleaning, enjoy the DGD visit.

I know what you mean JUSTBEA1 about being on the outside what you feel on the inside. Well done on the couch25k, it is a great achievement.

Hi everyone,

It is great to read everyone's posts. This is a terrific bunch of people. I'm doing okay today. Ran day 2 of week 2 in Couch25k yesterday and felt good. But, also saw a picture of me sitting down and was startled at how big I look. I feel better than I look--now I want the outside to match the inside.

Morning all, I'm feeling a little disillusioned this morning, I've had what I consider a great week of food and exercise but the scales isn't reflecting that!!

I guess I'll just have to work harder!

Hi Team,
I thought of Heather's son and wondered if the leak is fixed at the new shop...

I hoped that Katescape is truly on the comeback trail...

Healthyme98--we all know how hard it is to do what you are doing without the MS, so know that you have a cheering squad for every joyous ounce less of you!

Eocrossfit--ugh to the bug...lots of people are out ill already, and we didn't make it two weeks into the first grading period!

April, I have not tried banking calories, but I do stay in range, either end, every day of the week...mostly. I do skip breakfast on weekends in favor of a brunch hour, but I am still counting in range through the higher end over two meals on the weekends.

My work monster reared her head today; at least, I didn't have long to wait for the weekend to get away from her.

Keep Sparking Positive!

Happy FRIDAY! So glad to finally be to the end of the week. :-)

HEALTHYFORME98-Very proud of you on your loss. Since you have MS, I know you must have to work harder to see a loss--so that's HUGE kudos to you! I still wish I could offer you some more advice on exercise. :-( Just proud of you for trying! emoticon

Sandy- sounds like you had a good day yesterday! Hope your son is able to go on his field trip! It should be NICE to have a quiet house, yes? Hope you can get things done as you wish! :-) emoticon

FVUSCMOM-Sorry you also have to deal with a rough person at work--I don't wish it on anyone! I would have thought about Jaws, too! I bet you DID paddle hard! :) emoticon

KATESCAPE- So glad you're on the mend. Thanks for the quote today, as well. Love it! emoticon

EOCROSSFIT- OH NO on stomach bug! Hope everyone is on the mend--especially your Mom. emoticon

Heather--Thinking of you today for the big day! So exciting! emoticon

Kate (CULLWER)- Sorry to hear you're still dealing with the jet lag. Hope your body can adjust quickly! It's usually harder to travel east than west--but it's still hard when your body is out of sync! emoticon

JLR080500- WOW! Not sure I could handle your schedule! Hope you're able to carve out a little time every week to take care of you! emoticon

April- I will be curious to hear how your banking calories works out for you. emoticon

I typically don't have trouble on weekends, I try to eat the same and keep it as routine as possible (I do pre-plan). I have a hard time getting enough because I sometimes delay breakfast too long and then can't seem to catch up. I don't drink much at all, so I'm not derailed in that aspect. I have been TEMPTED to drink with my new boss running the show, but really, I just don't care too much for drinks of any kind. Not a temptation for me. :-)

Since our weather has FINALLY cooled off A LOT (went from 100 degree high on Tuesday, to 60 degree high today!), I think we're going to go throw some balls at our local bowling alley emoticon tonight and then build a small fire in our fire pit when we get home. Tomorrow will be cleaning, laundry and then a football game tomorrow night (Go GRIZZLIES!) emoticon . Sunday is unplanned at this point--and then I have Monday OFF! So excited! Going to try to tackle our spare room (my 19 year old daughter moved out several months ago). It's become our catch-all room and I hate that! emoticon

Have a GREAT weekend everyone! Make it happen!

Happy Friday My fellow 40 Somethings! emoticon

Kate - love that quote! Thank you for sharing!

I am looking forward to the weekend but also a bit nervous. I've got a GNO scheduled and I'm hoping I can use my banked calories and not go overboard. There is usually wine too. And my resolve tends to dissolve into a nice glass of red.

I really want to have a Monday where I'm not disappointed with how I handled my eating and drinking choices over the weekend. It's been too long. I'm hoping this new strategy of banking calories will help.

In case you aren't reading my blogs or watching my SVLOGs, I am trying a new weekend strategy. Instead of having a "cheat" or "splurge" meal or day where I don't count the calories, I'm just using my calorie range each day, and banking calories within that range that I don't use each day for use when I go out to eat on the weekend. For example, my calorie range is 1200-1550. If I eat 1300 calories today, I can "bank" 250 calories for use on the weekend.

Just another strategy I'm trying out.

What are your weekend strategies for success?

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! emoticon

So...the craziness begins at my home once again. My son is playing fall baseball with practices on Tues & Thurs. My daughter begins fall soccer with practice 2 days a week, one of which is Mon, will find out other day on Mon. Games will be Tues, Thur and Sat. I work at a church so that ties up my Sundays. So how many chances do I get for some me time????

Morning all, I'm still in the jet lag zone, so make yet another early start. It is actually great being up in this still of the night, time to think, to focus and to plan the day ahead.

Have a great Friday and wonderful weekend, anyone got exciting plans?

Evening everyone, The kids are in bed and I can finally relaxed. Been running around today cause my son who in middle school has a weekend field trip and they need a some papers filled out by the doctor on his meds. So we drop them off the other day and we went back today to see if they were done so he could go. They claim they would fax them Fri morning to the school.. I hope so cause he really wants to go. The field trip is about leadership.
Grand parents are taking two kids for the weekend as well so that only leave us with three kids this weekend. So the house going to be quiet. I told hubby maybe we can do some cleaning and uncluttered. We just have too much stuff. Gonna say good night. Hope everyone had a great day...

Morning all. Jet lag has it's advantages...I'm up since 5am and full of beans, so much so that I biked to the pool and swam all before breakfast.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning! Dropping by for a quick emoticon

We were up late last night and up early today. Tomorrow is the day the store opens! It started raining really hard last night while we were there working, and we discovered a BIG leak. So, we have to call the landlord today. That should be an adventure - our landlord is 93 and VERY hard to understand due to a throat issue. He's also famous (notorious??) for not maintaining his buildings - something that we've found out after moving in and talking to neighbors.

We just have to keep reminding ourselves that our rent is good!

Hope you all have a great day!

Make sure not to overdo it, Kate! Been there done that too many times to count.

Well I wound up with the tummy bug my daughter had. I think I gave it to my mom and I hope my grandson didn't catch it! Thankfully it is less than 24 hrs long. But not good for mom cause she really needs to eat and take her meds.

I did it yesterday! I went for a walk of 3 miles. It felt wonderful, to be active again, part of life, moving. I could feel how out of shape I was, just walking after a 3 week hiatus. I must make sure I walk again today.

Thought and prayers with our great nation as we reflect on the greatest tragedy of our time made against us 13 years ago today. God Bless America emoticon

I hear you all...it is good that we are still here with SP while going through life's trials.
I, too, have a work place where one person that I am subordinate to creates a hostile work environment, but avoiding that one as much as possible.

Heather, praying to rid your son of his pain and inflammation.

I paddled after work like crazy to do one lap before the darkness fell. Scary, alone on the harbor...the entire time, I thought of Jaws!

Thank you Katescape and Arkaios! I love swimming!!!! We have a pool membership and I would swim laps at pool break. I have to be careful because my arms quit working. Seeing as how I have to drive home, that could be a problem.

I have a recumbent bike and use it at least 3-4 times a week. Some days I turn on music and dance. Yoga everyday. Funny thing is, I once taught yoga to people with MS before I knew I had it. So, that helps me modify my poses based on mobility level.

ON THE UP SIDE....I LOST WEIGHT!!!!! emoticon emoticon

Happy HUMPDAY Team!

Thank you to all of you for your encouragement. It means a lot to me! :-) I WILL be OK, just have to move my focus to the positive and keep reinforcing that. I AM taking a day of vacation on Monday, so hoping I can really spend that day RECHARGING. :-)

JUSTBEA1- I don't have a therapist, but am considering one as there are several things I feel I need to address in my life. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

HEATHLYME98- I wish I could offer some advice. I love the swimming suggestion from Kate. I'm hoping other team members can weigh in on this possibly.

EOCROSSFITMOM- WOW...you have a lot on your plate and more to come it sounds like! Prayers for you Mom and enjoy those babies as much as you can! We'll miss you but if you promise to come back, we will understand why you're away. :-)

KATE- Glad you're still mending. I appreciate your support as always.

ONEDOGLVR- Glad you're still on the move and making it happen! Good for you!

Sandy- Sounds like you had a productive morning! AWESOME! :)

Hope everyone has a great day and can find SOMETHING today that will make YOU smile and I challenge you to try to make someone else SMILE! :-)

ARKAOIS ~ as a sufferer of depression my only advice is to talk about it as often as you need. Even with little feedback (which can be frustrating) it is still good to talk it out. If I don't talk the depression lasts longer than if I do talk. Only if it continues to last longer than I'm comfortable with do I start my herbal remedies.

HEATHER ~ your son is my inspiration! I know it is hard to watch him suffer but sharing his attitude was a blessing. I suffer from an as-of-yet-unspecified autoimmune condition which has me in a lot of pain often in my joints with lots of inflammation. I so want to wallow in self-pity a lot of the time. I know how he feels, though, not wanting to take the pain meds. I can't take them if I want to function in *any* capacity. So I am about to start down the path of herbal pain killers with my mom.

Speaking of my mom:

1) her doctors have asked me to come on board as a part of her cancer team. Shocked is putting it lightly. They were so happy to see someone getting her started on herbs and want to learn more themselves. This practice is a combination of MD, ND, HD, DO, nutritionist, acupuncturist, and about 8 other types but no herbalist. They want an herbalist on board pretty badly. Sooooo this could also lead to a job that would fit me perfectly where I could still care for my grandson and work doing something I love!

2) Mom is saying all the right things concerning fighting this thing but her actions say she has given up. I know it is the pain that is the biggest factor. It's wearing her down. I have found one herb that is helping better than any prescription drug but it wasn't even fully aged when she started taking it. So I bought 4 bottles of already aged tincture for her to use while we also try out some others.

3) Not only is my Air Force son coming home on the 19th but my daughter in Italy is moving back permanently when she takes emergency leave. She found an earlier MAC flight and will be also coming in on the 19th!! I have to drive up to Norfolk to pick her up and head back that same day. This will be the first time in 5 years that we have all the children together in one spot! Five years ago it was for one weekend, this time for 3 whole weeks.

While son#3 is home I will likely not be online at all. I'm already dreading no down time for 3 weeks but so excited to have everyone home at the same time! Then we also have to figure out sleeping arrangements now that daughter#1 is moving back home.

Prayers for you Arkaios! I pray for you to have a peace in your heart and joy in your spirit emoticon You bless us with your leadership. We thank God for you.

I have a question....I have been sparking for 1 1/2 years and have hit a wall of sorts. I workout but if I do too much (ie. over 20 min cardio or too many sets), I lose the ability to walk because of Multiple Sclerosis. It is very frustrating! The same is true for my arms and my torso. The heat of the last few weeks has wreaked havoc on my routine because I have had to be very careful. I LOVE to workout! I LOVE to move!

Any suggestions? emoticon

Sorry to hear about your boss, Arkaios. It is really hard for people to understand how much a negative person at work can affect your whole life (I had a boss (and his wife) with whom it was like I was in an emotionally abusive relationship and my friend got so fed up with me talking about it!). I totally understand about depression and how scary it is when you are trying to fight off going deep into one. Be kind to yourself. Do you have a therapist? It might help to have someone to talk all your options out with. Know I am sending good thoughts your way.

Happy Tuesday, team! Hope everyone is still hanging in there. I'm trying to! Had a pretty good weekend, and then yesterday got to spend $900 on fixing the AC in my house. It was in the 90's yesterday, so while they were working on it, AC was off, so our house got up to 87, and we inherited about 1000 flies while the door was open. UGH. We did manage to kill about 3/4 of them, but there are still a few buzzing around this morning.

I have really been fighting depression these past few weeks, so would appreciate thoughts and prayers. There are many factors, some of which I won't go into so as not to depress everyone else, but one of the majors is that I have a new boss after 14 years with my last one. Just having a hard time adjusting and staying motivated. Funny how your job affects so many other aspects of your life--wish I was better at leaving work at work. I guess all the change has just started me questioning whether to stay or not--and yet I've put 14 years of blood, sweat and tears into this job (that I have always loved), and would hate to start at zero--so also feeling a little "stuck". Just hoping to find my way and have a clear outlook on what to do. Thanks, all. :)

Have a terrific Tuesday and let's make it happen today!

ScarletHeather... I'm sorry your son is hurting so bad and dealing with an awful illness. I do want to let you know that he was an inspiration to me just now, when i read your post and you said he doesn't let anyone wallow in pity for him. That really made me get out of my own wallowing tonight. Tell him thanks for helping a stranger.

Well been on the go all week and finally got to relax on the weekend. It been very warm here like in the 90's. I be glad when it start to cool down some. We did have rain the past couple of days but it really didn't cool down any.
As for my birthday yes it was nice and I had a good time. The kids made me stuff and my mother in law gave me a new purse. Hubby gave me a new fridge and tennis bracelet and nice plant. I had a great time and I did enjoy my day it was special. I can't believe I'm 47 boy how time fly.
Just stopping by to say hello and hope everything is fine with everyone....

I'm out of sorts today. Our youngest DS has JIA, but it's been pretty well under control for awhile. In fact, he has an appointment with his Rheumatologist tomorrow, and I was going to talk to her about starting to scale back some of the meds.

But when he woke up this morning, he kind of hobbled out, and rated his pain 8 out of 10 (it's usually about a 3 - he will never be pain free due to joint damage). I know it was bad because when I asked if he needed a pain pill, he said yes. He almost always says no because he doesn't like they way they make him feel. He did try to make it through the day, but ended up having to come home from school at lunch time. More pain meds and he's camping on the couch with a heating pad. I really just want to cry or have some sort of tantrum about how unfair it is. But, DS doesn't allow himself or anyone else to wallow, so I'll suck it up.

It's just so frustrating because there is absolutely no reason he should be flaring. He's on double the recommended dose of Humira, and big whopping daily doses of anti-inflammatories. I guess it's a good thing that we're going to the doc tomorrow, but the timing really sucks for us if she wants to change meds around, with DH quitting his job this week. I guess we'll have to COBRA until we get get our new health insurance set up.

Sorry for the rant.

Other things are going well. DH is staying busy getting the inventory entered for the shop, and is up there now putting together display cases. I'll go up when I get off work and help him finish up. I think I'm starting to feel better - at least my throat doesn't feel like it's on fire anymore. I'm still needing to do breathing treatments, but I did manage to sleep through the night without coughing my head off last night, so that's a step in the right direction!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was hectic. I did get to exercise a little. Not much new to report. Going to be a crazy week....starting with a vet appt today after work. Just a check up - nothing wrong but makes for a crazy evening.

Talk to you soon,

Debbie

Good Monday morning! Had a great day yesterday. Walked 3.5 miles in the morning with my mom (well she did 2.2 then Dad picked her up). Already had the carpets shampooed by 9 am this morning. emoticon

Hello Monday and team mates~

JUSTBEA: emoticon . Impressed with your hike yesterday~ emoticon

HOOSIER: Thanks for shout out. I want you to hang in there. be proud that even though your not really feeling it, you still got your activity in...so I count that as a big win for you. emoticon your mind set with catch up with your body. emoticon

WANT TO RUN: emoticon Keep up the good work!

As for me, I'm struggling to get back to normal still. My meals are off and I am not back to my normal 8-10 glasses of water a day. I am happy to report yesterday was the 1st day in more than 2 weeks that I reached 5 glasses of h2o, so that did feel good. I think in my mind I gave myself a week to get back on track after the hospital and I am still not there. I want to exercise so bad, but know my strength and energy levels are not where they need to be. So I wait impatiently. emoticon

Speaking of weight, I braved the scale today. emoticon Still feeling bloated and knowing my food choices have been off, I was prepared to see some weight gain, give or take a few pounds. I was surprised to learn I had lost another 2 lbs. I feel ambivalent about this data. I feel like I haven't earned it. ( I mean I earned it kinda through intense suffering from being so incredibly sick), but not by making healthy food choices and daily activity. If I felt like I earned the weight loss I would be proud and wearing it like a badge of honor, but that is not the case. It then makes me question, maybe I had lost more and then I put weight back on since coming home, so I have a feeling of possible disappointment. Gosh, this journey is still surprising me...I never thought I would feel ambivalent about weight loss.

Regardless, moving forward, this is my starting point...I apologize for my rant this morning...will try to keep it simple tomorrow....have a wonderful day!

Pretty good week. Since hitting the "reset" button last Tuesday, I have found time to exercise 4 times. I was aiming for 4 times per week and I'm hoping to do yoga again tomorrow night, so might even surpass my goal. I have put my exercise right on my calendar. I've seen that tip before and thought it was a little silly, but it seems to be working! So far no change on the scale, but I have not kept up on my water intake as much as I should, so might be a little salt retention. I will be pushing the water next week. Hope everyone has a great start to the week! emoticon

Kate--so glad you are on the mend. j

I'm still struggling to get back on track. I just seem to have lost my momentum . . . We did have beautiful weather today, so I took a walk with my daughter this evening. Hopefully this weather will last a while.

Congratulations to everyone who is sticking with their program and losing weight.

Hey everyone!

Posting so I keep myself on track. Yesterday would have been my day 3 of week 1 of Couch25k but we went for a 5.3 mile hike with a 1,200 foot elevation gain. I had planned on doing day 3 today, but I am SORE. So, I WILL do day 3 tomorrow. My week resets on Tuesday anyway. So day 1 of wk 2 on Wed!

The hike was good but the elevation gain was hard. I really notice the 15 lbs I put on since hiking last summer. Good motivation.

Good Sunday Morning...

Missed church this morning, but hoping to be healthy enough next week to go. I do feel a little stronger everyday. Now I'm focusing on game day today..Go Pats!!! emoticon

Almost forgot: A big emoticon to my DGD, Elena. To our teammate Sandy and Arkaios' daughter!!!! emoticon

APRIL: I'll be looking out for your SVLOG (not sure again what that is...lol) Good memories made with friends = priceless!

SCARLET: Your working on all cylinders...hope you feel better soon. I know it will all pay off!

WANT TO RUN: I am also inspired by others when I am out at my local park. Just all the signs of life, the babies, the elderly and everyone in between...it motivates me to keep pushing. Good luck getting back up to speed.

SHADOW: BIG emoticon I am so sorry for all the health issues this Summer, but more so over the loss of your dad. I hope the memories you two shared will somehow bring you comfort.

Hello It has been a busy summer. In June I broke my right knee cap and the little bone that comes out of it. Then in July I dislocated my left shoulder so I have been out of action for a while then when I thought things were looking up my dad died.

I am now trying to focus on me and my health because I don't want to be like my parents.

Thanks for listening

Nice to be back and "see" everyone again! ScarlettHeather, 81 pounds?! That's just amazing! emoticon So far my first week back on track is going well. I've gotten in nearly 90 minutes of activity - not a ton, but so much more than I had this summer! And although I haven't run much this summer and my pace is pretty lame, I haven't lost any ground. My girls and I are signed up for a 5K in Nov and I'd love to get my pace down to around 12 min/mile. Spent the day at my high schooler's cross country meet. So much fun! And super motivating to see all those fit people in one place!!! emoticon

So I started tracking what I ate cause I wasn't losing any despite the amount of walking I was doing. Just started thinking I was either eating to much or put on muscle. Guess my surprise when I discovered I wasn't eating enough.. Some days was barely eating 900 cal. So upping my food intake.

Wow, 91 degrees yesterday, 71 degrees today. Fall has arrived in Southern Illinois! I'd enjoy the weather more if I wasn't fighting a cold. I had to start using the nebulizer to try to break up the crud that has settled in my chest. Now is NOT a good time to be sick!

We got the carpet down, the window repaired and a cabinet and counter top purchased and the display cases arrived yesterday. It was a busy day.

I was pretty happy this morning when I got on the scale. I hit a small goal today! Woot! It took me 4 months to lose this last 15 pounds - there were over two months where my weight just would not budge at all. So, I'm pretty happy to be where I am right now, and I'm looking forward to my next goal. Nineteen pounds to go until I have a hundred pounds off!

Hello 40 Somethings! Happy Saturday! My favorite day of the week. emoticon emoticon

Want to Run - emoticon glad to see you here!

Kate - hope you're feeling better!

Today I'll be spending the day with my friends that are in town visiting. Yesterday we walked and walked and walked, and ate and drank, and walked and walked and walked! I am hoping that all the walking cancelled out all the eating and drinking but that's probably wishful thinking!

I am happy that I am down 3 sizes and shopping for clothing has become fun again. The only not fun part is spending the $$ which we really can't afford. I went to Ross yesterday to buy a new tshirt and shorts but all the tshirts and shorts are gone and all the long pants and sweaters are out. But I need more shorts and tshirts! I live somewhere that is warm year round but apparently the national Ross chain doesn't take that into account.

In other news, I've been keeping up with my daily SVLOG. I'm happy it's helping me be consistent with getting my sweat on daily. I did one last night but unfortunately I can't upload it directly from my iPhone so it'll have to wait till later when I have time to sync it with my computer. Stay tuned!

I hope everyone has a fabulous and sweaty Saturday! emoticon

Hi, everyone! It feels like it's been a year since I've been on here. This summer was so busy and completely got away from me. Now that kids are back in school, it's time for me to get back on track too! I've been released by my ortho for my shoulder issues. I don't have full range of motion back, but it's ok. It's been hurting a lot this week, somewhat stiff from 3 months of neglecting my physical therapy stretches and now starting to be active again. It's better today, so I guess it was a "good" sore. My main goal for the next couple of weeks is to add back in some exercise that I've been missing. Planning to run a 5K in Nov with my girls and I'm not quite ready for that right now! Also need to get my eating back on track. I didn't track at all this summer. I had such limited time and my computer was acting up, so it was difficult to even enter items. The frustration got to me and I gave up. I'm hoping to at least track some days, just to get my calories back where they should be. I can't wait to see how everyone has been. emoticon

Hi all
Enjoyed watching the game last night - sounds like we have a bunch of football fans - I am a NY GIANTS fan but also have an affinity for the Patriots as we lived in MA for the first couple of years of his being on the team (and he's not bad to look at :)

ARKAIOS - sorry about your Packers last night :(

Kate - hope you feel better soon

Happy Friday, team!

So glad you have no new medical issues, Kate. I bet you are going a little crazy. Continued prayers on your full recovery--and NO TWO WEEKS! No, it was NOT a good night for the Packers, I'm afraid. It was an AWFUL way to start the year, but knowing our team, they'll correct and dust themselves off and keep going. Aaron IS the real deal--I love his humbleness and obviously, he has a great sense of humor! I haven't quite gotten to the point where I watch ALL games, so I don't know too much about your Patriots, I'm afraid. :)

FVUSCMOM--You ARE such an inspiration to us all! You WILL see the scale move again, although I totally understand how frustrating it is!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Good Morning~

Thankfully no new medical issues to report...lol. I was starting to feel like I should be on the 80 Something team( no offense to the 80 yr olds out there). I am looking forward to getting my house back in some order today since I have no appts scheduled and I am basically on home confinement until cleared by MD. I was so sick I still have not been cleared to drive and due to the contagious nature of the bug, I am home bound ( I would not want to be responsible for sharing this with anyone else). No work, no food shopping, no family or friends...I'm going crazy.

So thankful for all of you guys to connect with. I still chat with my fiends and family but it's hard. Tonight I am missing an annual sunset gathering with current and previous co-workers. It is always a fun event and tomorrow I was to be hosting my DGD 4th bday party. Of course that has been postponed. Missing out on other weekend plans too. I hope this will not be the full two weeks they (MD's) are predicting. Fingers crossed.

SCARLET: Hang in there...you will get it done, both the store & your weight!

ARKAIOS: Huge football fan here too. My team is the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS...but I watch all the games. I like your quaterback, Aaron Rodgers...especially the discount double check ads...always make me chuckle. Sorry your season opener didn't go the way you wanted...the Seahawks are a beast of a team.

FVUSCMOM: You have accomplshed so much...I know you will conquer this hurdle too! You are such an inspiration to me and I know many others on the team. After my latest health scare...I am seriously contemplating taking a daily multi-vit.

Happy Weekend!

Hi Team,
No news is no news. I am stuck at 54 pounds LESS for two weeks now, but I had a three pound drop all at once two weeks ago. What I did try to get unstuck that failed was ten and a half hours of paddle boarding over the Labor Day weekend (fri.-mon.). I am nutrition tracking and calorie counting obsessed. I had a lapse in my water intake, so I am back to eight glasses a day. The sodium does cause water retention, so that may have been my problem.

This weekend I have another weigh in, so I am doing another surge of paddling. I had to skip paddling weekdays because of my work schedule. I miss it!

I have been taking my anti-cold regimen (Emergen-C, nasal rinse, the gold Listerine, and cold-eze zinc lozenges). Everyone at work is catching colds. It is a school, so...

I also take a daily multi-vitamin, which keeps my immune system fairly strong.

Keep sparking positive!
I miss Robin and Joan! Trying to remember the laughter they sparked.

Happy THURSDAY all! I was MIA yesterday, due to a big project at work. I, admittedly, do most of my posts from my computer at work and rarely get on at home. I only have a laptop or iPad at home and really dislike using either! :-) Anyway, hope everyone is having a fabulous week.

Heather--I hope you are NOT getting sick. Thoughts and prayers your way. I'm sure you're stressed to the max...which is NOT good in helping with the scale. I think that's why August was so bad for me.

Kate--You poor girl! I cannot imagine how hard this has been. Glad it's not worse than it is, but still! Prayers for you, hon!

Nessa-So glad to have you back! Congratulations to you and the family! YAY! :-)

I am so EXCITED to have football season here. I work for a local community college and our football team is the #1 NATIONALLY RANKED (overall, through the years) team. We've set more records than any other team and consistently have really good years. Go BUTLER GRIZZLIES! :-) They are CURRENTLY ranked 5th, so we have some work to do this year--but very excited to have the season underway. I am also a GREEN BAY PACKERS fan (don't hate me!). I am already biting my nails for the game tonight, though against the Seahawks. Makes my tummy nervous! Seriously, it does. :-) Silly. I hated football until I started working here at Butler 14 years ago and we were on the verge of a national championship. Started watching and trying to understand it then and have been hooked since.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have a great day all!

Ugh, I went to bed late because we were checking in inventory, and when I woke up this morning I had a killer headache and a sore throat. I do NOT have time to get sick!

DH is taking the day off. He's waiting for the electrician at the shop this morning (another unexpected expense - yuk) and then he is getting a nerve study done this afternoon. We're trying to squeeze all required medical procedures in before next Friday, while we still have insurance where our deductible is met!

I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and stressed about getting the shop ready. We have to get a TON of stuff done this weekend. And to top it all off, my weight is STUCK! Not moving one little bit for the past two weeks! It's frustrating because it took me over 2 months to get past the last plateau. I'm not ready to be stuck again!

Sorry for the rant. I'm awfully grouchy this morning. emoticon

Kate, you poor thing! Glad to hear you're dealing with it with a sense of humor!

Good Morning Team 40 somethings~

Well, my medical issue continue. Although I am making strides on my G.I. recovery (actually ate a full meal at dinner time-1st time in 10 days), yesterday it was discovered I developed a blood clot in my right arm from where I had an i.v. Thankfully, it is contained so I will only need to take aspirin daily, do cool compresses and elevate until it dissolves...but seriously people! I feel like I couldn't make this stuff up. It is frustrating since this will delay me further from getting back into the swing of my workouts until I am cleared. For sure this will pass..trying to keep a light-hearted comical approach at this point! If any of you have further suggestions throw them at me...LOL!

Sandy~ sorry to hear about your girls troubles, hope it passes quickly.

My best to the group: emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello everyone! I'm back! I've been on vacation and my daughter had her wedding so I can now concentrate on me again. I'm back at work and it's been a very tough week but I'm managing. I hope everyone is doing great!

I am SO glad you're feeling better, Kate! Continued prayers until you're back at 100%!

Debbie--I'm glad you're excited about the month, too! Let's DO THIS! :)

Sandy--I've had ringworm before...it's NO fun! Itches like the dickens. Good for you on 40 minute walk! That's AWESOME.

Sadly, I didn't get my workout in yesterday. I came home made dinner and just felt really tired. My hubby got home late and asked if I'd heated the oven. I hadn't and he walked over to our thermostat and it was 85 in our house. Our AC went out. We had it fixed this morning, but it was just a Band-Aid ($160) and now we have to have coils and some other part replaced which will cost another $900. WOO HOO! We HAVE to have it. Our heat index today is 103. But, I guess my point was that my workout didn't happen more because I was TOO HOT! It WILL be happenin' tonight though!

Well I started my day with a 40 min walk and it felt good. Since then I been cleaning up the house and catching up on laundry. Been having three of my girl home due to ringworm that they got from rubbing against something the doctor said. So she gave them cream to use and they been home since Thursday and not allowed to go back till this Thursday.
Today we have a women coming to the house that grooms, clips birds feathers, trim their nails and beaks. We have an african grey who needs to be trim. She mobile and only charge 15 for everything.
It warm here as always so been trying to stay cool as much as I can. We still hitting 90's believe it or not.
Hope everyone is doing good and enjoying their Wednesday. Kate hope you're feeling better.

Hi Everyone~

Wow! I am feeling a lot better after having a couple doses of the antibiotic in me. Not back to 100% but making my way. I'd love to give a BIG shout out to Karen, ARKAIOS for putting ALL the September Challenges together while I was under the weather. I am with you Karen...I feel like September is going to be a great month ahead!

Let's make this month our best month yet as we transition into a new season, filled with new challenges... emoticon

Happy Monday...er, Tuesday, Sparkers! It sure FEELS like a Monday. Hope that means the work week will seem shorter. Often it doesn't when the holiday is thrown in there for some reason!

I kind of messed up on the Minute Challenge, so if you chose to participate in that, double check that it says MONTHLY MINUTE GOAL and not MONTHLY MILEAGE GOAL. That's what I get for using a small-screened iPad when I'm in my 40's! Eyesight failed me! Ha!

I don't know why, but I am really PUMPED for this month. I think it must be that I'm ALMOST to ONEDERLAND. I promise I'll post a picture of the scale when it happens. I am also only a few pounds from losing 50 (started at 248--weighed 200.8 yesterday)--so I'm pretty excited to know that this WILL be the month that I hit those milestones. I'll still have a long way to go, certainly, but it sure will feel good when it happens. I am thankful for all of YOU who have encouraged me and helped me along the way. My success is due in part because of YOU. Very happy that you're in my life.

Speaking of this team, I didn't realize that there are almost half a MILLION of us on this team?? I was SHOCKED when I saw that we're over 490,000. Can't remember the exact number. I really wish people would drop off when they don't participate for so long (even if it was a year). Guess that's not really the way it's set up, but scares me a little to think that my email went out to that many people! WOW.

Hope everyone has a fabulous day and a super week!

Karen

Good morning! I'm checking in to say hello!

We've been staying pretty busy getting the building ready for the shop to open. September 12 is the big day. I'm SO sore today! Climbing up and down ladders, pulling staples and nails out of floors and window washing is hard work!

We've got inventory on the way, carpet is due to be installed on Friday and the display cases should be arriving sometime this week. I'm starting to feel stressed out about this! DH is really looking forward to his last day at the factory.

The only downside right now is that he carries health insurance on our family. We can switch it to my company insurance, but it's not nearly as good as his. Which is ironic since I work for a major health insurance company! We're actually looking into buying insurance on the marketplace. With our son's health issues, we need something that has good prescription coverage. We'll figure it out.

KHUFSTETLER, I live in southern IL. Where in the state are you planning on moving?

Kate, glad to hear you're home and on the mend! Take care of yourself!

Hope you all have a great day!
