Congrats LindaT1970 for wrapping of the 28 day bootcamp. I finished the 10 minute challenge and the January Jumpstart, but fell off this past week with the 28 day bootcamp. I'm redoing week 2 (I finished all but one day, but I am going to start there so that I get three weeks in consistently).

After the 28 day, I think I'll join the Spring Bootcamp Challenge!

I hear a lot of good things about the fitbit. I have a friend who loves hers. Sounds like a good way to get into an exercise program.
I've been getting ravenous between meals, particularly in the afternoon. So.. I'm experimenting with a bigger breakfast. I had been going low carb/low cal for breakfast, but maybe I need more ooomph in my breakfast.

Hi all! I had a challenging week, but am pulling myself back into better choices. I have gone swimming a bit more, and that's been good. I'm also back to logging and being very diligent about sticking to the range that a nutritionist set for me. I know it works bc it's worked in the past. I just need to stick to it all.

I also bought a book by Dr. Pam Peeke called, "The Hunger Fix: The Three-Stage Detox and Recovery Plan for Overeating and Food Addiction"

So far, the material is resonating. I'm also enjoying Jillian Michaels podcast. It's great to listen to in the car!

http://www.amazon.com/The-Hunger-Fix-Three
-Stage-Overeating/dp/1609614526/ref=sr
_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360639343&sr=8-1&key
words=the+Hunger+fix

My plan for this week is to swim 2-3 times, use Jillian Michael's 'Ripped in 30' DVD 2 times and do sprints on the elliptical one morning.

What resources are helping you lately?

Excited and hopeful to have started the 30 Day Shred yesterday. Day 2 and man, are my legs sore!! Hoping and praying it will help me bust through this plateau! I've heard of amazing results as far as muscle toning an inches lost. Haven't heard of as much weight loss, but would be happy with 4 lbs or so, thrilled with 7 and ECSTATIC for 10. As long as I lose a little weight and see a big difference in my body, I'd be okay with that. Here's hoping (and here's to advil)!

So no big surprises, but my few days of not sticking to the program and being consistent didn't help me on my path to where I want to be. Up 2.5 pounds. Well, you win some, you lose some. I'd just like it to be losing more!!!

I know what to do, and need to do it for longer and more consistently. I need to get down 10-15 pounds, and then if I go up and down 3 pounds one week and then another, it would be fine. But first I have to get there!

It's been a rough eating week! And I have been stuck a bit, as my weight goes up and down 2 lbs. I have been walking 3x/week on the treadmill and this is more than I have done in quite a while. However, I am going to try to increase this. I don't have much time in the day, but am going to try to get up early (ICK! I am NOT a morning person...AT ALL!) and work out to a video. I bought the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred video yesterday. 22 minutes. We'll see what happens. I wanted to lose 5 lbs by Valentine's Day, but the scale is indecisive. Back and forth, back and forth. UGH. Hoping this will kick start something. It would be awesome to lose 20 lbs by Sunday. HAHA! I have to stand in front of the church to commemorate my 5 year anniversary with my skinny wedding picture behind me on the big screen and my husband's tiny little ex-wife in the audience. Ah, man! Here's hoping this video makes a positive impact.

Funny how life gets in the way, Reli! Good luck with sticking to the plan tonight at your network gathering. Social situations really have a way of zapping your nutrition plan!

I took a night off from exercise last night. I think the cardio kickboxing on Saturday and Bootcamp workout on Sunday killed my calves. I'm still in a bit of pain but going back to kickboxing tonight since I don't want to get off track. During the week I've been able to stick to my nutrition plan but tomorrow is my annual review at work so I'm afraid that I might be looking for some comfort food tomorrow night.

Stay healthy everyone! emoticon

OK...recommitting. I spent time logging food today and revisiting the carb/fat/protein ratio a nutrition coach and I put together awhile back. It will work if I stick to it!

My foot is really bugging me this morning, and I woke up too late for a full workout. Kind of low on workouts this week. Need to get back into the swing of things.

I have a work meeting tonight, so I need to prepare myself and bring food with me so I don't get hungry at the networking gathering after the meeting.

Hope everyone has a good, healthy, reasonable choices kind of day!

I too was on a good roll ( not gluten free or otherwise!) long enough to see and feel results. Yesterday and today I'm off, and not feeling good for it.

Hard to stay 'on top' and make good decisions. Have to do it longer and more consistently for continued results, though.

I did go swimming yesterday. The first time in awhile. I went to get better supplies today (goggles that don't leak, swim cap). I started a DVD this morning, but flat out quit it, which I never do. I am just 'off'.

I wish my foot didn't hurt so much. I guess I should go back to PT...

Thanks, Cockapoo! A little stumble every now and then does not equal falling flat on my face. Maybe it was a good thing, because I learned that mindless snacking just makes me feel bad. Thank goodness for the food journal, knowing the value of what I eat makes all the difference

I joined this group almost 10 months ago and I reached my initial goal. emoticon

I'm within 3-5 lbs of reaching my 2nd goal. I've been so inspired by people on SP and the website's resources. I wanted to check in with my fellow "40-somethings" since I haven't posted here since I've joined. I need the social element of this website to keep me going. I put back on about 5 lbs and was pretty frustrated about it. I don't want to jump on and off the wagon --- that's my goal --- is to be ON the wagon for life! I always hear the 80/20 principle: 80% of the time you are on and 20% you are off. I think this holds a lot of weight (pun intended ;) when it comes to how we eat and the fact that it is normal to have off days, but if we can have mostly good days, we'll succeed!!

Today marks a full month of consistant tracking. It haven't missed logging even one bite of food, even when I've gone overboard. That in itself is an accomplishment. I've kept the cals right around my BMR everyday. I lost 5 lbs. but I am conflicted. One the one hand, I'm thrilled with the progress, but on the other, I am impatient. There is still another 10 lbs to go and I'm praying that I can continue for the next 2-3 months.

Starting weight 1/23/13: 165
1/31/13: 161.5

Down 3.5 lbs

I am going to attribute this to a few things:

1. Stepping up my workouts again, consistency and intensity wise. I've primarily been using a Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 DVD which is about 25 min long. I add in elliptical time too a few times a week.
2. I went back to logging food. Yup. I don't like spending the time to track, but the reality is that it is sooo easy to over do it, and when you're trying to lose 'only' 10-20 pounds, an extra 100-300 cals can make the difference between getting to goal or not.
3. I am retraining my brain to realize that my body really doesn't need much to survive and thrive. Way less than the av. American believes (not that anyone in this group is average :). Just because I feel a hunger pang doesn't mean I'm going to DIE. I try to drink water now, or have some coffee with milk or do something else and not immediately grab for food in the heat of the hunger moment. I can see on my log what I've eaten and what I have planned for the day, and it is enough for my to sustain myself. I have to get over the 'fear' of hunger. That's what I'm training my mind to begin believing. I've also thought a lot about making sure I have a calorie deficit. I went to a BMR calculator and figured out how many cals I need to lose weight. That was helpful too.

I think those are the main three things. Sleep has been rough this week for a number of reasons, but I know I'll be that much more successful when I can get more quality sleep. I also joined a gym today that has a pool. I have been going to the same gym for close to 10 years. It's a great, bare bones gym, but I need pool access so I can do more cardio with my foot injury (plantar faciitis).

I've been listening and enjoying Jillian Michael's podcast. She's pretty entertaining, and gives good advice and has good guests. I highly recommend it. She calls the last 10-20 pounds 'vanity weight', and talks about how the approach to shedding this weight is quite different than if you have 30+ pounds to lose. I'm thinking about getting her 'Unlimited' book that she's mentioned. Anyone read it? It got some good reviews on Amazon.

Anyway, have a good day, and keep plugging away. It's not easy to get to goal, but it is possible.

Hi Peeps!

Nice to see other people like me returning to SP. I've found it helpful in the past in helping me stick to the plan.

For the newbies, most of what you'll need is on your start page...tracking your food and your fitness. I also found that getting spark points helped me find different resources on the site like recipes, articles and fitness videos.

Good luck to everyone! We can do it! emoticon

This is day 2 for me as well. I don't quite get how the site works either and wish it were a little more intuitive or I was 20 years younger and I am sure it would all be clear! ;-) This is my third time starting my "diet" this month. Crazy. I decided I needed a little more accountability and support this time around. I am too old to not have figured this whole weight thing out by now. Hope we can all help each other out.

welcome , I am back using the site due to needing more motivation etc. I recently joined a gym and zumba class. that has helped. I was working out at home ..which is good and I still do but I needed socialization .

Great plan, Cockapoo. Just adjust your calories to the lower end for the rest of the week, and I bet that pound goes away again.

Feeling your pain this week. My husband and I work out 5 to 6 days a week alternating cardio with sculpting (using DVDs). I had lost 7 lbs over 3.5 weeks and was feeling rather proud of myself then no movement for a week and now today added a pound. I know it's not much but it wasn't the direction I wanted to go. I've been super munchy lately and eating at the top of my suggested range. Gonna try to stick to the lower end of the range for the rest of the week and try to push my workouts a little more. emoticon

I am a total newbee. I really need this to work, so I guess I better do the work. lol I am trying to figure out the site. I still can not figure how to do weigh in or get one of those cute charts everyone has. Not to bad for day 2. First day of real tracking. I also need friends on here. I think it will be easier with a little help from our friends. As the song goes. emoticon

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling defeated but you are SOOOOO NOT defeated!! emoticon

You ate consciously and made the best out of what could have been a crazy-over the top eating day and watched Biggest Loser while you were on the treadmill!

As far as the driver license goes...well let's face it...I don't think anyone likes how they look in those mug shots but since the only people who are going to see it will be security, someone proofing you for a drink or the police you don't need to worry because it's not like you're trying to get a date!

Keep up the good work!

I had a great day today until I came home. I woke up way too early to try to get some work done, so maybe I'm just tired and sensitive? I unexpectedly had the afternoon off, so went and got my new DL and actually had a decent photo taken, although I can totally see the weight gain in my face compared to 4 years ago when I weighed 20 lbs less than I do now. Went shopping and that's always therapeautic. LOL. Got groceries, my daughter's Valentine's outfit, some Bath & Body Works stuff, and Valentine's cards. My husband texted me and was at his parents. They had ordered pizza for us. UGH! I was going to be good tonight. I limited it to 2 pieces but am still feeling fat and bloated tonight. So, I came home, turned on "The Biggest Loser" and walked on the treadmill for 2.5 miles, actually jogging for part of that. My husband came in the room as I was jogging and smirked. I am hoping it is a smile/smirk that he is proud of me, but honestly, I feel as though he was laughing at me. So, despite a great afternoon, I'm feeling defeated this evening. =(

Hi Hot40! I totally get that mentality. Knowing that I'm going to 'start' something soon, so I might as well get in my 'last licks' figuratively and literally, since I will have to write everything off!
-
I'm doing pretty well this weekend. I think I'm finally at a point (it's taken long enough!) I'm really keeping it together and keeping in mind that I need a 'calorie deficit' to lose weight. End of story. I've been doing well with that thinking for a few days (one day at a time, right?), and on Sat I over did it. I had 2 handfuls of raisins and nuts and a small bowl of granola cereal. That's all it took for me to not have a calorie deficit. It doesn't take much. Everything else was reasonable and part of my plan.
I just seem to have the type of metabolism that is very sensitive and very calorie counts! I do workout too, so that helps. I'm on track today, and plan to keep it that way!

I did horribly yesterday, and I think it's because I am going to check on the Curves Complete program on Monday afternoon, and I am confident it will work. I won't allow myself to "celebrate" today though too. Back on track. Guilt is bad though...

Ate very well friday. I was sick on Saturday so I ate very little on Saturday. I am feeling much better tody but my stomach is a litle unsettled still so I dont plan on having any trouble staying within my calories today. Official weigh in on Thursday, but my peak at the scale has me down a half pound.

Hello everyone! I am sort of a newbie. I joined Sparkpeople last year, never posted on the boards and didn't last long. Now that the new year is here and I want to be a better me I came back to Sparkpeople. I took a long look at what I did before and decided I need to make some adjustments to make this time the last time. SInce starting again on 1/1/13 I have added a whopping 7 sparkfriends. I need more!! I realize how important it is to have that support system. I am still a little overwhelmed with the site.

Hi all,

Felt good about the choices I made yesterday. I was able to keep the child part of my ego who gets what they want when they want it at bay and I stayed adult to make better decisions.

Today is going well today too. I've been using a plan called No S (stands for No Snacks, No Sweets and No Seconds EXCEPT on days that begin with the letter S). There are some interesting and good things about the behavior modification program, but I think that my weekend choices are negating my weekday successes. Maybe for now, until I get to or close to my goal of 10-20 pounds, I need to keep S days more clean.

Just some thinking/typing 'out loud' as I figure out how to best achieve what I want to achieve. I have to switch something up b/c what I'm doing hasn't been working. As Einstein once said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results".

Have a good one!

I did fine yesterday until I walked in the door after work. I kinda went nuts after that. I am back on track and am going to be very strict with myself this weekend and stay within my calorie range. It is goibg to be so hard because I have a social thing Fri, Sat, and Sun, which means food and drink challenges every day this weekend! I hope to report back on Monday with success. I am going to try my hardest!

OK...update on me because I'm so excited!!!

Got on the scales this morning and I had dropped 4 lbs. I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't weigh on Monday mornings anymore! LOL

Still sticking to everything I'm doing and trying to push myself on exercising seeing as though I'm not typical one that likes to do so. I feel so much better after I exercise though.

Just gotta keep on keepin' on!!! Minute by Minute and Day by Day!

I should have more willpower and this is not an excuse (but of course it is)...: my inlaws are here and we're going out to lunch and dinner almost daily. And I can't control myself in restaurants. I overeat. Just got back home and am so overstuffed. I don't over eat much when I'm home... well, maybe I do, but not in one sitting. Not to the point of feeling like my stomach is going to explode. I actually adore my inlaws but for this reason, I can't wait til they leave, so I can be selfish and focus on myself...

Too funny....after posting, I went and signed up for the spark coach for plateaus.

I am doing various exercise....from treadmill variations (elevations and speeds) during and even changing them up each time, varying videos, and I do the weight circuit in the gym at least twice a week.

One issue I feel may be contributing, is that I need a food scale. Also, I am in Korea and you can not find low fat dairy products here. I limit myself on these as much as possible.

Sandy-

I feel ya! I have struggled with a plateau for 9 months now. I lost a little bit past that plateau, gained it back over the holidays, and lost some of that. I lost back to what I was before holidays (just 2.5 under my plateu) earlier this week, but have already gained 1.5 lbs back. But I have been sick and not exercising. I feel a little better today and walked to a nearby park today with my daughter to play. It's so frustrating!
I started to use the SparkCoach yesterday, but was still pretty sick and didn't complete the information. However, there is one on there for plateaus. I can't say how good it is because I haven't used it yet, but hope to do so when I'm feeling 100% again.
I know it's frustrating. Are you doing the same exercises? Maybe switch it up and try a different exercise? I haven't been exercising, so lost again when I was and hope to get more exercse in as the week progresses.
I'm furstrated today, too, as I had been down earlier in the week, then no exercise, and gained it back to what I was last week. UGH!
Anyone else have suggestions?

Shelley

UGH! I got on the scales this morning...no movement. I am tracking all foods and staying within the calories that SP gave me. I am drinking only water, tea, and coffee (only Splenda in the tea and coffee), and exercising 5 days/wk! HELP!

I use to never have this problem (& that was without the exercise), but over the past year and a half I can't seem to get the scales to move more than 3 lbs and that happens to be what I gained back over the holidays ... Now I can't even get that off.

Ideas???

Sorry, I don't know why that is happening, I just do spell ck and hit post mess, then hit the back arrow.
Lauralee, WOW, congrats on the loss, what did you do different or is all your hard work paying off.
soccorwife, Hope your feeling better now, I used to take all the cold/flu meds i could and just stick it out.....also i put the dog outside. Hang in there, it sucks.
Gracie, We all have cheat days, just get back on track. emoticon
I did treadmill on friday, and sat went to the mall, but we went out to eat and blew the calories. I did get a new dvd player, so I can get back to the exercise videos. and parked in the back of the lots. I think everybody was out shopping sat.....ha Going to be cold out today so will set up the dvd player and workout then if i can handle it, get on the treadmill.
Everybody have a wonderful Sunday.

I have spent my weekend kind of doing whatever in the eating department. Not necessarily eating horribly, just not tracking or measuring. I will track everything I eat today and I will eat on the low end of my calories today and tomorrow. Weigh in Thursday and I want to see a loss. I'm afraid to step on the scale today so I will wait until Thursday. Plenty of time for damage control.

Alright, I'm obviously doing something wrong... this is the second time I've posted a message that posts twice. Sorry about that! I'm a newbie and trying to figure out how the replies work. It looks like even though when I click reply on a specific message, it's just added to the thread like a normal message? And maybe it's when I hit the back button that my messages double post... help!

Congratulations on getting it down to 2 a day! I used to drink a LOT of diet soda and replaced it with water and iced tea and just quit cold turkey. It's not easy but I don't even crave it anymore. Good job on getting your water, eating fresh fruits and vegetables! Those are great steps in the right direction! Keep on sparking!

Just curious regarding exercise: Has anyone tried the SparkPeople DVD "Fit, Firm& Fired up in 10 minutes a Day"? I'm really considering it and wanting some reviews. Time is my biggest issue and I really want to get toned as I attempt to lose weight. Let me know! Thanks!

The scale is finally starting to move! I have started tracking calories and have been conscious of healthy eating. Staying aware is so important! I hope to meet my goal of 5 pounds this month, even though I had a late start to begin. I was dreaming of going shopping yesterday. 8.3 pounds until I can buy some new clothes!

Thanks. I've been telling myself that, too -- that I've accomplished a lot already and I can turn around the funk I've been in. I think the scale may have actually crept down a little in the last couple of weeks -- there's hope!! :)

Happy New Year!

Kort, 5 pounds a month sounds like a great goal and completely doable if you stick to your nutiritional an exercise plan.

Ilovemjh, when it comes to losing motivation, you are in good company. Holidays and overwhelming stress are usually my culprits but I remind myself that every day is a another opportunity to start living a healthy lifestyle again. I know you can do it!

Good luck!

it's time, game on! I have been playing with weight loss and changing my habits for quite some time but have not committed to accomplish anything. I am ready to start getting serious with my diet and exercise. My goal is 5 pounds a month, January, February, March, and April. That will put me at goal by spring! I have lost 20 pounds before by eating at the mid to high range of my calorie range and walking a few times a week. It was actually easy! I just had to stay constantly aware of my choices. I can do this again!

Hello, all. Haven't posted in months and wanted to say Happy New Year. Realized after I got put in this group last year that I actually had 35 to lose!! Didn't get all the way there, but ended the year down 25 (had been a little lower but put a few back on).

I definitely lost motivation and discipline, which I'm trying to find again for the new year to reach my goal. I got out of the SparkPeople habit, so I'm re-connecting now to try to push myself in the right direction.

Hope everyone is off to a good start...

What progress, you ask, have I made? I have begun to be a friend to myself.
