Congratulations on the 16lbs. I lost 6 lbs in my first week but then since then well its gone back on and I lose a lb gain a lb week by week at the moment. That first week I managed 30mins exercise everyday and then a very stressful couple of months at work got in the way. I'm struggling to get back to the 30mins of exercise because I was walking round the block but its dark and wet and cold outside at the moment. I'm trying to do some indoor exercise but it doesn't seem to have the same impact. I guess if I'm walking outside I know i have to be back in 30 mins regardless of how i feel so I push push push, and indoor I can ease off more easily.
Ah well - I will keep trying! Have fun!

I've only been seriously working on losing weight for a little over a week now and exercise was my biggest downfall I think.
I've been good so far by working 30 minutes (doctor recommended amount) in right after the kids go to bed each night, around 8 PM. I know it's late and sometimes I want to skip it, but if I get to it right away before sitting down and catching up on the TV I've missed, I don't think to myself "I still have to exercise, I still have to exercise, I don't want to exercise," etc and just do it.
I got pretty sick right after starting this journey (stomach flu or something) and I think that had a lot to do with my success, but so far I have already lost 16 lbs since the beginning of last week! Good motivation :D
Thank you both muchly!! That recipe calculator is ace!! Not sure how I missed it. I'm about to work a 7 day stint at work so am going to try and exercise everyday and track this week. I am always better when I don't have days off to distract me! I don't have any exercise equipment as my stepper leaked its hydraulic fluid but I am going to work through some of the videos on here this week each morning!
If you go under Healthy Lifestyle (Orange Strip) at the top - click Spark Recipes, you can enter your casserole ingredients and servings (weigh before cooking) and get an accurate nutrional information for tracking
I HIGHLY recommend tracking ... its whats helping me loose - I was eating "too much"
I said in the Daily Chat room, but I'll repeat it because it has worked SO well for me...I threw the recumbant bike between the armchair and the loveseat-smack dab across from the television. I do about 30 minutes a day most days. As for tracking your food, get you some measuring cups and measuring spoons and USE them until you can accurately eyeball it. I have found since doing that (again) that one serving often REALLY is enough, especially if I am drinking plenty of water. Another thing that has helped me is Spark's "Portion Distortion" article. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti on _articles.asp?id=177 Give it a browse and refer to it often. It will help so much with accurately tracking. Start using sparkrecipes.com for ideas of what to cook. I posted a recipes thread in here somewhere, I think, with links to some of my own successful creations, but it has TONS, and it has really been a hit with my pickypicky kids and their daddy! There are really some great recipes to help you out and basically trick your family into eating healthier. Anything else I can help you with? I'm not a team leader, but I'm almost always on the computer during the day.

Hello, I tend to lurk here a bit but I have a question (well maybe two)!
I am trying to do about 15 mins of exercise a day and parking further from work etc and I do feel better. I even managed the stairs of doom (4 flights) yesterday. I struggle to stay motivated and a lot of it is done whilst my partner is asleep (he doesn't think I need to lose weight but at 276 pounds I need to!) How do you fit your exercise in?
I really should start tracking my food because I don't think I am eating the right proportions of food or anywhere near the right calorie range. But I have no idea how to do it.
If I buy ready meals they give me the calories and proportions but they aren't very good for me.
If I make my own food I don't know how to track it. I can weigh everything I put into it but say I make casserole with meat and veggies, I never eat all of it and have the rest for lunch the next day. I have no idea how I would track this. Do I weigh it all before cooking? or afterwards?
