i started on my least favorite pair and used a funky stitch that kind of looked like a serger (not straight and not a zigzag) because i dont want the knit to unravel. i just shot straight up the side by 1". i didnt try and make a new outline. then i cut off the extra material and the old seam. i didnt pick the old seams out. i didnt do the waist band "right" either. i just sewed right over it. it works and i'm the only one who's going to see it.

i have another pair that i'm going to attack a little different. i am going to do the waist band right on this pair.

These are all great suggestions. I might have a thrift store shopping spree this weekend. BTHEFLOWERGIRL: I am totally going to try your idea for alterations to exercise pants. I just started Couch to 5k a couple of weeks ago and it is no fun constantly pulling up my stretchy pants as I jog. I got a new sewing machine for my last birthday and this would be the perfect opportunity to break it out. Thanks all!

i am so with you. i thought i was nuts for being mad at my closet. i bought some nice pieces to celebrate a 50 pound weight loss and now they don't fit!!!!
i had all kinds of stuff in my closet that almost fit last year and i said"I'm gonna fit into these someday" and i passed them right by. never got to wear them.

some pieces i am giving myself a crash course in clothes altering. tank tops are easy, just a nip at the shoulders. my stretchy pants for exercise were easy, i just ran the side seams down the sewing machine and voila!

otherwise try goodwill and st vinnie's etc. it takes patience though. i wouldnt buy anything online because if you are losing weight you have no idea what size you really are. ( i swear i'm not exaggerating when i say that i tried on 50 to 60 pairs of pants and jeans last night in 4 stores and i got 1 pair of jeans and 2 pairs of yoga pants.

What about buying some transition pieces online or on thrift stores? You wouldnt pay a fortune but can get some great bargans even for very professional clothing.

Catherines and Lane Bryant are having some great sales right now with some great deals.

So I'm VERY happy that my slacks are starting to be baggy, and I'm especially happy that the once too tight pair in the back of my closet now fits. But I'm having to wear these slacks practically every day or risk looking like I'm wearing harem pants. I haven't lost enough weight that I need to go full-on wardrobe shopping, but I'm wondering how often I should be buying new clothes.

I don't love rocking the MC Hammer look every day, but I also don't want to spend a fortune buying new work clothes over and over. Any suggestions for transitional career clothes that won't break the bank? I work in a very conservative office so I have to wear full business professional every day.

Believe me, this is a problem that I'm happy to be facing. Just kicking myself for cleaning out my closet earlier this year!
