Artificial sweeteners give me migraines. I can't do any of them really. And I just try to stick with moderation and just trying to avoid processed foods. Honestly the only thing I really miss is soda.

I do black coffee as well. I needed my caffeine fix and just force the issue... I need caffeine therefore I would choke it down and then developed a taste for it.

FF cheese scares me. The 2% stuff isn't really all that bad.

Thanks for the feedback so far, it's very helpful!

I'm okay with soy, so that doesn't have me too worried. But I agree, fat free cheese, etc is not something I'm a big fan of. I have noticed that in some of those products, what they remove of in fat, they make up for in other ingredients like sugar. But I can get around those ingredients easily enough.

I'm really interested in the idea that they're simple recipes including one serving meals, I'm single and always looking for quick, easy recipes to make at home that don't produce tons of leftovers! emoticon

As for splenda, I'm okay with it, I use it on occasion, but am not the biggest fan of sugar substitutes overall. I actually used splenda to cut out using sugar in my coffee, I first weened myself off sugar and on to splenda. Because I'm not the biggest fan of splenda I eventually used less and less of it until my coffee was completely sugar free! So, I have to say thank you to splenda for that. emoticon

I've heard some sugar substitutes can give people migraines, thankfully, I am not one of them!

besides the fact that it just tastes awful, i have a dozen other reasons for not using splenda.

why cant you use spenda?

I like her recipes because they are normal foods if that makes sense. Comfort foods and quick and easy one serving meals. She uses a lot of splenda in her things which I cannot use. I really enjoy her daily emails.

i went to amazon and they have the books with a look inside. seems she uses a lot of things i'd rather just skip like fat free cheese and sour cream and margarine. how did they get the food fat free? they also seem to be great for new cooks

my hubby has forbidden me to buy anymore cookbooks. i have a few hundred and a lot of them are pre WWII and just fun to read. and some of them are my own collections of cards and magazine/ newspaper recipes placed in photo albums. i am trying to go back to basics with my diet. whole foods, unprocessed and as few pronounceable ingredients as possible

I have two of the HG cookbooks, 300 under 300, and 200 under 200. The problem that I have with them is that HG uses a lot of soy. I am hypothyroid, and need to stay as far away from soy as possible. I have made lean meat/whote wheat/low-fat dairy substitutions, but these will almost always up the calories. Overall, though, not a bad start to getting into the habit of cutting the calories.

I'm always on the look out for cookbooks and especially with my new health plan, I'm looking for healthy cookbooks.

There's a series of cook books called the Hungry Girl cookbooks that I've seen around and I'm considering picking one up. But thought I'd see if anyone else out there has one (or more) and what they think of them?

Just curious if there is one book that is better than the others or if anyone has made any of the recipes and can vouch for how good/easy they are?

I have the Spark cookbook too, which I enjoy, but am still interested in picking up others for alternative recipes too.

Yes, I do enjoy buying the actual books, rather than always looking recipes up online, I enjoy flipping through recipe books to plan out my meals, I find it relaxing. emoticon

Thanks!
