I retain water really bad. But a body doesn't just hold onto more and more water, it has a limit. (Unless you have a condition beyond sodium sensitivity or edema, like congestive heart failure where the heart is not able to push the water out) You aren't going to be losing fat and replacing it with water.

The more you eat while you lose, the more you get to eat when you hit your target weight for the rest of your life. If you get to your target by starvation, the only way you will stay there is to starve for life, obviously not so healthy.

If you can lose at the top of your range, even as it drops it will be a lot of calories. It will be slower, but a much healthier and long term way to lose and you will be more likely to be able to maintain that lifestyle.

I was getting discouraged too as I was eating within my calorie range and working out for at least 40mins a day at high intensity and not losing any weight. I spoke with my doctor about it recently and it turns out that I was taking in too much salt in my diet. This excess of salt was causing me to bloat from water weight. Its so easy to go overboard on the salt intake. This was especially shocking considering that I was rarely putting extra salt on my food and I was drinking plenty of water as well. Maybe you might want to check into this as well and rule it out as a possibility of why you are not losing weight? You can actually track your sodium intake if you check it off as one of your trackers in the nutrition section.

Chin up! There is usually a simple solution to most problems :) Good luck!

You aren't eating enough calories!! Problem solved. You have to eat more (of the healthy things) to weigh less. I was stuck, too, til I started eating my recommended calories. You HAVE to stay within that range. If you are overexercising & not eating enough, your body gets confused and starts to burn muscle instead of fat!

I'm aiming to get in shape enough to be able to hike to Havasu Falls, AZ by the summer of 2015! I hope to become a certified personal trainer and/or a nutrition coach someday!

good job getting your water in! that can be a challenge. as the weather cools, i find i dont drink as much as i do when it's 90 +.

are you done eating for the day? you still have over 1000 calories left to consume.
also if you go to your sparkpage and click edit, at the top there is a white dialog box and if you can select to share your fitness and nutrition trackers.

i was just there and i realized mine was not turned on, i turned it on. take a look at what i ate today and i was within range. it took me a while to get here, it didnt happen overnight.

p.s. today is a good example of my tracker. there were 3 days this week where i never finished entering my food, i am a little busy being a mother of 3 babies who turned 6 weeks on sunday, ok this is where i point out they are the furry kind that meow alot, they were orphaned and jeez they are as much work as real babies!

so sorry to hear about your mother and congratulations on 15 years of marriage! we are coming up on 6 and it seems like forever, lol.
i would love to see what you eat in a normal day.
my biggest hurdle was to take a hard look at portion sizes. it is really depressing to see what 200 calories of pasta really looks like and cheese and butter, oh how i miss you! and then you put all three of those together and bake you have a big dish of heaven!
my hubby was really shocked to see what a tablespoon of peanut butter looks like.

If you consistently do not eat enough, you will also not lose. Your body will hold onto every calorie it can and turn it to fat.

Stop skipping meals, eat more than 1,000 calories a day, shoot for at least the lower range. If that doesn't help, shoot for the upper range.

I have been very truthful on what take in and what i do to exercise. I dont know what my measurements are. because I never took them. Here is how this all came down that i needed to lose some weight. For the last 20 yrs I have been a stay at home wife and mother. We have always lived on the farm. I ride horses , feed and water our livestock. I also have a garden that I care for. I walk up and down our 1/2 mile driveway most mornings. and I care for my house . in July of last yr my mother came down with cancer and passed away 30 days later. Everyone of us kids went in and got checked to make sure we didn't have cancer or any other health problems. After My 1st doctors appt I was sent to an other doctor. That doctor told me that my BMI was 51, and then there was my weight, at 250. She had me write down all my food intake and I had to meet with other person about that intake. That person told me I needed to take in about 1800 cals per day. and stop missing meals. SO from there we got out the cups and so on. I did the same thing with all my kids at home. taking out cups and so on to measure our food. Both of my daughters lose a ton of weight and my husband gain some needed weight. I didnt lose one OZ. in fact I gained 3 lbs. I cried when I had to step on the scale after christmas . Then it was 5 days week with a personal Trainer at the gym. She worked one on one with me for 4 months. I did lose the 3 lbs, and was stronger then I thought I was. We worked out 2 more months and I didnt lose any weight. I gained again a pound and half . and I said Ok I am done paying someone for me to get fatter. So I started doing it myself. I was eating once a day taking in no more then 1000 cals and that is with my coffee and teas. once a month riding my horse for hours per the day. because I have to move cows from one field to the next. walking and working in the yard. I have been with SP for about 2 weeks and every day I track everything I do. I see their #'s and I know that I can do this just feel like its not happening as fast as I would like it too. I know today I am over on my points of what I should have been eating but today is a special day . Today his my husbands and mine 15 yr wedding anniv. So i have been doing what i do best and that is cook and bake. If I have to start over I will. just feeling like I am not getting anywhere . I have had other people ask me what tests have i had done . well i have had all then . and they come back normal . so then i ask myself am I just going to be fat all my life? Dont mind me I just have to ask that cause no matter what I do I look at food and I gain wt. If I miss a meal I gain wt. then I look at my sisters and brother and they all are normal weight people . So from here i have to ask what can I do to better my health?

Are you measuring and weighing everything?
Tracking everything?
Getting all your veggies, water, some dairy, protein?
Are you being honest with your food and exercise that you track?
Do you need to up the intensity of your exercise?
Were you realistic with the start up info with your current weight and activity level?
Do you need to switch up your diet or exercise plan?
Are you eating the calories you burn with exercise? If so, maybe cut back. If not, maybe start.
Are you aiming for the high end or the low end of your range? Maybe shoot for the opposite.
Are you actually eating enough? You have to eat to lose.

Go back to the basics and pretend you are new to the program. Sometimes that helps us see that we have been eyeballing portions, not quite getting our daily requirements in, etc.

When I started, I Googled for a calculator to see how many calories I needed to maintain my then current weight and activity level. SP wanted me to knock it down to a little over a third to half of that. That seemed too drastic of a change for me, and any diet plan that works well, is slow. So I upped my range, still well below where was to maintain. I'll reduce my calories as I reduce my weight, probably 100 calories for 20 pounds. (Almost time to reduce. I'm at 1,500-2,000 now.) I suggest you try the same thing if you have been truly diligent with your efforts so far.

Good luck!

I have had those weeks as well, so I definitely feel for you. Those weeks are tough and the only thing that keeps me going during them is telling myself that I may not have lost but I also didn't gain. Don't let rough weeks deter you from your ultimate goal. Just keep at it.

Have you done measurements to see if you have lost bulk but maybe gained muscle in the process?

Using nutrition trackers to make sure you are getting balanced meals?

Just keep your head high and keep trying. you can do it. Take it one day at a time and eventually you will figure out what works for you.
