the quicker a food hits your system and raise your blood sugar the worse it is.
my personal rule of thumb is:
the less something has been processed the better
whole grain bread vs. wonder bread
orange vs. orange juice vs. sunny d
carrots and hummus vs. doritos and dip
it may not be a perfect rule to your question but it should help weed out the good from the bad when you cant look things up.
