This post is just my experience after 5 successful, healthy pregnancies (three of which I had diabetes, and four of which I was obese). The placenta causes more and more insulin resistance the further into the pregnancy you get. Even if you aren't technically diabetic when they do the test mid-pregnancy, that doesn't mean it won't happen in the last month or that you aren't packing on weight from your body's lessened function. A "diabetic diet" is really how most of us should be eating anyways! If you are gaining lots of weight, try that diet. It is very common for women who are over 250 to lose about 15-20 pounds while they are pregnant instead of gaining so I wouldn't be distressed about any limited loss. If you keep calories around 2000 and cut back on simple carbs (sugar, processed grains, white food) I'm sure you'll feel a lot better physically and emotionally, slow that weight gain to where it should be, and have a much healthier pregnancy! Again, this is just what worked for me. Congrats on the baby on board :)

You should ask your dr for a referral for a nutritionist or dietician so that you can see what changes you can make to stay where your dr wants you and still keep baby healthy. The old saying that when you're pregnant you are eating for 2 is only partially accurate, technically you are eating for 2, but that second person only needs a few hundred calories a day.
My last pregnancy I actually was losing weight as the baby was growing, I wasn't dieting, I was eating non stop. I happened to be eating the right things, I guess. Lots of water, whole grains, fruits and veggies and lean proteins. My dr was happy, my baby was big enough to break a collar bone during delivery.
I have learned that if I want to be full all the time I need to stick with whole foods as much as possible. Good luck with both of your journeys!
Wow, I was right where you were last year so I know exactly what you're going through. It is tough to just watch myself gain weight as that little life was growing inside of me, but a great friend told me that it was okay because I was creating a little miracle.
My little miracle is now 9 months old and will be a year on November 9th. She was worth the torment and has been an even greater inspiration to getting back to where I was before I was pregnant and pushing on further.
I won't bore you with my pregnancy details, because everyone is different. What I did find for me was that I had to do was drink a whole heck of a lot more water. 8 glasses just weren't enough some days. It didn't help with the swelling, but it did help with the hunger. I also ate a lot of water based fruit and veggies. Snacks became celery and watermelon. You can eat a lot of it and not suffer the huge calorie intake. I had to cut back on sodium and that did help with some of the swelling.
Ultimately, everything you are going through now should pass once you have the baby. I know that can be rough to hear, but not everyone is so fortunate enough to be able to create a life inside them. Take a nice calming breath and try to enjoy the good parts of what you are going through. I wish you the best of luck!!
for the first couple of months i was ALWAYS hungry. it will pass as your stomach shrinks. i learned slowly to balance my budget. a piece of chocolate (mmmm chocolate) is very expensive at 100 calories for a tiny piece but i can have a big piece of fruit for 120 calories or even an ounce of baked cheetos for 140 calories. wheigh and measure everything. sizes and weights are very deceptive. keep using the nutrition tracker and think of how you are being healthier for your babies. and you will learn the skills to teach them to eat healthier too!

I am due November 11. I became pregnant and my weight was 288 pounds. I had been trying to lose my weight from my previous children. I am now 315 and need to try and at least maintain or lose. My DR says that I need to stay in 2000 calorie range. Thats great but I am hungry all of the time! I gained over 100 lbs with my first and 60 with my second. My last DR appointment I had gained 10lbs in just 4 weeks. I need help inspiration anything anyone can give me. I am so emotional right now. I am swelled, it is hot as hell and I am constantly feeling to tired to work out. I have stepped up this week but am feeling like a losing battle. To make things worse my HS 20th reunion is in a couple of weeks and that is giving me additional anxiety.
