I work out at home. I just don't have time after work to get to the gym if I want to eat with my family and put my child to bed and since I have CF/FMS I go to bed "early." We've talked about getting a rowing machine but not sure how my down stairs neighbor would appreciate that. We can hear the wheels of the upstairs neighbors desk chairs into the wee hours of the night.

I try to do 20 - 30 minutes of yoga daily. I have been trying to mix in belly dancing (w/ weights), tae bo (w/ resistance bands) and walking - 2 or 3 times a week.

MOMRITZ- I currently have a membership at Curves and it is ok. I love that it is only a 30 minutes workout, so it is very time friendly and I love that it is only women....but it doesn't seem to work me as hard as I want to be worked. I live in a small town and I hear it is different in bigger towns, but the Curves I belong to is just that. It offers the 30 minute curcuit and nothing else. I don't mean to complain but I wish it had a treadmill and/or and elliptical. I want to feel like I have completed a REAL workout when I am done and I never feel that way...but it is a great program!

I go to a gym several times a week. I use all the cardio equipment so that I don't get bored. I also took the plunge and spent the money on a personal trainer. She really pushes me harder than I ever would. For me it was so worth the investment.

I have to get in 102 days of exercising by May 27 and this bad boy is all mine!

We sort of live in the country, so a "real gym" is like 45 minutes away, not practical. My husband has started adding pieces to our home gym: we now have an elliptical, a treadmil, a stability ball, yoga mats, hand weights, and a weight bench! he even put the console tv up on a stand to make it higher...i couldn't see it over the treadmill! we don't have any excuses now!

I walk in the neighborhood near my home & lift weights at home for the moment. As I get stronger & extend my weight workouts, I fully intend to do them at the gym.

I work out at home too. But I was wondering if anyone has tried or currently use Curves. If so, what are your experiences?

One more quick note... I have found that when I'm at the gym and I starting thinking everyone is looking at me and thinking negative thoughts this helps a lot: say to yourself "At least I'm here, they have to give me credit for that."

Hi! This is the first week I've actually worked out and not just planned to do it. I have used the cardio equipment in my office's workout room, and the stairs at home. I plan on hitting the gym on the weekends for now and adding more time there very soon.

No matter where we're working out, let's keep sweating and enjoying the results!

I work out at home. Its much easier to get the kids off to school then walk on my treadmill or go for a walk around the neighborhood. I did have a membership to a gym but then it would take awhile to get on the machine you want and sometimes you still may not get to use it.

I wish the equipment in the gym room at the complex here was better, but I have to climb up on the elliptical to use it and then if I stop or slow down for more than 1/2 a sec it tells me to pedal faster and then resets everything. Hate treadmills and the strength training center is set up for skinny people.

Both, I guess. We live in a complex and there is a small gym on site. I love the treadmill because there is no excuse about weather. Also, I am beginning to like the stationary bike.
The biggest gift is that we have a pool. It opens at the end of May. I am so thrilled and excited....

I go to the gym more. There's one less than a mile from the house that's open 24 hrs. I usually go mid day, but once work starts I may go after work. I'm not a morning person and I feel too rushed as it is.

During the school year I work out at home, There is not enough time in the day as well as someone to watch the kids if I go to the gym since my husband is going to night school right now. In the summer I find some way to get to the gym. I have much more time on my hands so it is easier.

I have tried a few gyms, and always get into the mode of not wanting to go, for the reason it takes to long to get there, and then I know I have to leave to rush somewhere else. I have been working out at home for over 2 months. Doing all the workouts that I need to do everyday, using anything I have in the house as a weight;(ex: cans of food, jars of peanut butter, and I weigh them first to see what there weight is) and I always use the ball. I really thought when I was younger and much thinner that the ball was stupid, but now I can really say I cannot live without it. I really feel the gyms are a waste of money. We have a stationary bike here and one of those step treadmill machines coming, but the best time I feel great is when I walk at night around out lake and have time to myself to think about the day. Just about 1.3 miles, and cannot do without that either.

I cannot stop trying, then is when I will fail. Keep looking to the almighty for strength and one day you shall find exactly what you have been looking for. We can only love the people around us as much as we love ourselves. We must start with the person that we are looking in the mirror at every day. One day at a time was not only a show, but was a path we must follow to get to where we need to be.

DON'T FORGET TO LOVE YOURSELF FIRST.

At home I have a treadmill, weights, step, bands, ab roller and exercise tapes but itís rare for me to work out at home. I prefer to work out at the gym. I feel that having others working out around me while I work out motivates me to work out harder. I use to have a membership at Lucille Roberts hated it because it was too crowded. I joined NY Sports Club and at first felt apprehensive. I didnít know how I would feel about working out with members of the opposite sex but honestly after a while I realized that no one was looking at me (male or female) anymore than I was looking at them. 99% of people at the gym are there for one thing and one thing only, to work out.

I definitely feel out of place and that people stare when I go workout. Most of them are college students and are already pretty fit (and tiny), so I'm not only the fat one, but also the old one.

Give it to God.

I workout at home, have exercise bands, some workout dvds (including 2 tae bo workouts) and will be purchasing a stability ball soon. I use Tae Bo Basic workout for my cardio and then do my strength exercises that I used to do when I took martial arts. I get quite a good workout at home, though I do wish that we had an elliptical as I absolutely love those, would do that when watching my TV shows.

I have belonged to a couple of different gyms, but find that I prefer working out at home now, though I do miss the variety of equipment for targeting specific muscles.

In my experience that is much more of an issue in "health clubs" than it is in "rec centers". My water aerobics class has lots of people who are overweight. I don't feel out of place at all. And, when I walk on the indoor track there are lots of people of all ages and body types there, too.

You do have every right to be there, but it is hard to stay motivated to go if you feel like people are staring and talking about you. I have found rec centers (think community rec centers or YMCAs) to be the best choice for people who just want to get some exercise--not to see and be seen, if you know what I mean.

I have belonged to three different ones in three different cities and I have never had any problems. These kinds of places are family oriented, so there is a lot more diversity. Some of the "health clubs" I've been to seem more like a singles club. Even when I wasn't overweight, that wasn't what I was looking for.

I hope you find one that is a good match for you.

For those that go to a gym, do you feel like you are being stared at for your weight? I get totally paranoid and just want to run out of there but I stick with it as I figure I have as much right to be there as anyone. But I hear the whispering. It's really so rude, I mean are we in grade school still. Get over it.

I do a little of both, but I had to get over myself and force myself to walk into the gym because once I'm there I have to exercise. We have had this family membership to the YMCA for a while, hubby and son were using it - now I am too.

I have a stability ball, exercise bands, hand weights, jump rope, and video on demand exercises on the TV; but I wait until my son is in bed for space reasons, and then I'm usually tired. Makes it easy to quit or skip exercising.

At the Y, he likes the child watch room and the other children, so I have to just go exercise. I do the elliptical, weight machines, and the treadmill usually.

My whole family has a membership at Gold's Gym. I work out on the treadmill, bikes, weight machines, and Pilates; my kids swim, do strength and conditioning, yoga, cheerleading/gymnastics, and dance.

When I get a new TV, I will be able to work on my Walk Away the Pounds DVD. Until then, it's just the gym.

I also do both. I love to take our dog for long walks around our neighborhood when the weather is nice, but I do also have a gym membership. Our whole family has a membership at our community rec center, which is ideal for us because it is something the whole family can use. They have a pool, gym, indoor track, cardio machines, and weights and weight machines. They have classes for all ages and fitness levels. I take water aerobics and water yoga classes there in the mornings.

When the weather is nice we do a lot of hiking and trail walking on the weekends. There are many trails in our community, so we have a lot of options. I do this with my dh and youngest child. The older ones come along sometimes, too. And of course, our dog loves it.

Right now I am only using a treadmill, I just started working out after a couple of years of inactivity so I am taking it slow. I do have some resistance bands that have a dvd for exercises and I have some free weights and an exercise ball with a video, all of which I plan on using soon.

I am the type of person who doesn't like to work out in front of others so the gym will not really work for me, and I don't go outside much now since a little over a year ago I had to deal with skin cancer (malignant melanoma) so am afraid to be out in the sun much, even with sun block.

I love the treadmill the most, I hop on and watch tv while I work out, time flies by :)

I am blessed to work at a university and the rec center is right beside my building. I usually go on my lunch hour and use the elliptical and bike, but sometimes I walk the track or do laps in the pool to mix it up a little.

We have a treadmill at home and I don't use it at all...hate it..got bored quickly with it. my son runs on it so at least someone uses it. about 3 years ago i had a membership to curves but after a year of going 3 or 4 times a week didn't notice much of a difference when it expired we got a family membership to our local rec center for the same amount as a monthly curves membership. my son is on swim team and uses the pool alot and my husband and i use the fitness room. they also have free daycare for my 4 year old. my routine is usually 30 minutes of cardio..I usually ride the recumbent bike - then 15 minutes on the nautilus machines varying the muscle groups from day to day. i wasn't pushing myself to go everyday though before SP and now I find I actually look forward to it.

I have an eliptical at home that I can use for about 15 minutes a day-about 220 calories each time; I do a lot of Walk Away the Pounds videos at home-about 220 calories also for a 15 minute mile of one of those; I use a treadmill at work usually for 15 minutes during my lunch break and use hand weights while on that-about 200 calories; I also sometimes use my mom's treadmill but not often. I usually come in to my office on Saturdays though and at least double my walk if not more. I like being here totally alone so I can crank the music up as loud as I want! lol Through the week, I usually average 500 calories per day 3-4 days a week, and on the weekends, I do my best to double that.

I am about to join a gym though that's open 24/7 which I love because I can go whenever and not worry about the "gawkers"-I think i will do better if I have to leave the house to exercise. See, if I'm at home and I get started on a workout and then decide I just don't want to, I'll just plop back down on the bed. But if I actually get OUT of the house, I think I'll be more likely to follow through even if I can't get into it right off the bat.

I have found that changing my workout routine is key to me continuing to lose weight, and stay motivated.
The only thing I have at home are resistance bands that I use during commercials when I actually get to watch t.v. at night. I also have a ball at home, but really only use that for stretching my back.
In the morning I take my dog for a 20-30 minute walk. On my way to work I walk two miles to work, which most days takes me 30-40 minutes. Then I do the same walk back after work most days. My only time to do the gym is on the weekend, and I go to Westcoast Fitness. I alternate between the eliptical and a stairstepper. Sometimes I'll get on the bicycle, but not often. After about 30 minutes of one of those machines, I will do another 20-30 minutes of strength training with the weight machines the gym has available.
I throw in a Yoga class on Wednesday nights. It really helps stretch out my legs and hips after all those walks during the week.
Variety is definitely key for me.
Keep up the great work!!!

I currently work out at home. I used to belong to a gym and loved it but it's just not what I'm into now. It's a 30 minute drive to get there and I already commute 1 hr each way to work.

I recently purchased a Schwin SR-23 recumbent bike and I already owned a rowing machine and treadmill. I also have some dumbbells and a number of videos ranging from Yoga and Pilates to Cardio and Kickboxing.

Right now, I usually bike a 1/2 hr before work and a 1/2 hour after work. I like working out in front of the TV so the bike is convenient. If I can move some furniture around, I'm planning on starting to row again. I like that because it works the upper and lower body at the same time. The machine is long though so it's a space hog if I have it set up. As to the videos, I'm not into them so much anymore as I get bored watching it over and over.

I say that to each his own. What one person finds fun or challenging might bore another. If you love nature, try outdoor activities. If you like watching TV, find something you can do while watching TV. If you have kids, can you do activities that include them? What are your passions? I think that finding a workout that you really enjoy is the best key to having a successful program.

I do both. I have a treadmill and walk 30 minutes every morning at home. I am not one to go outside in the winter and then you don't have excuses like rain. Then I do stregnth training 20 minutes every other day at home. Lunges, squats, pushups, crunches.

I just joined a YMCA and twice a week do a class like yoga and step. It's fun to get out. Plus occasionally a friend will go with me to use the machines. I like to try out the bike, elliptical etc. I try to never say no to exercise.

Super Topic - I currently workout at home. We have a treadmill, gazelle and free weights. 5 Days a week -I try to burn 400 calories on the treadmill - 15 to 20 minutes of weight training - and 150 crunches.

I like my home routine but have been thinking about a gym. I cannot decide between two. One is at the local college with pool, track and equipment. Other is small gym but offers BodyPump classes. I hear that they are fantastic and that the results are amazing.

I so look forward to see what the rest of you are doing! And what has worked best for you! Thanks for this topic~!

I do both. I work out at home with dvds, free weights and my elliptical.

At the gym, which is at my work, I use the bike, treadmill and weigh machines.

Let's get rid of the weight! I certainly don't want to lose it and find it again!

great topic, I like to see what other people do!

I workout at home. We have a treadmill, elliptical machine, stationary bicycle and a great weight set. We were almost forced to get a home gym because the gyms around here have hours that hubby and I can't make . (Closing at 6 pm, please!!). We do have a Curves and I would be interested in that when/if I get bored at home.

I also have a step I can use and lots of videos. My next purchase will be an exercise ball.

Living in upper Michigan we have a bunch of snow so outside walking is hard unless we snowshoe, which we do sometimes, but during the summer I love to walk and bike.

I am currently working out at home. I have a stability ball, exercise bands, free weights, workout videos, mini trampoline and a treadmill that I just purchased this week. Winters and summers in Kansas are sometimes not conducive for outside walks. My condo also has sunken living room; so there is a step down. I sometimes use this for a stair-stepping routine. Eventually, I would also like to add pool exercises to my routine. My city's parks and rec department offers various water walking/aerobics classes that I want to sign up for.

I think we have had a topic like this before, but I was just curious? Who has a gym membership? What gym? What is your usual workout? How many calories do you burn? And who of you work out at home? What is your routine at home? Treadmill? Elliptical? I just want to know what is working!

I have a membership at Curves. I like that it is only a 30 minute workout, but I don't know if it is intense enough for me. I want to be challenged and feel exhausted after every workout. My contract is up in April and I am debating finding something else. My exercise of choice would be walking outside...EVERYDAY! I love the fresh air....warm or cold....not to mention that it is free! But the weather has been pretty bad here lately so I haven't been outside. I can't wait for spring!

Anyways, just wondering what everyone's exercise routine was like!
