I like to buy the 100 calorie nut packages or buy bulk and put them in zip lock bags for serving size. Baby carrots are good. Maybe some celery with peanut butter. More protein will keep you from feeling hungry.

So the new semester starts today which means late nights of grading papers are on the horizon. Unfortunately for me, I am a late night snacker. I eat well all day and then BAM! I mess it up in the evening. I'd like to eventually get to the point where I don't snack at night, but for now it's more realistic to try to change what I eat.

What ideas do you have for healthy snacks? Baby carrots are one my favorites, but I need some new ideas!

She's doing much better, thanks! I, however, now have a bladder infection which has slowed me down. I wasn't able to get in the steps today, but I'm stretching while I watch TV. I really want to be more flexible. My goal is to be able to touch my toes.

Prayers for healing for you all!

I'm dealing with an inner ear issue that is causing some serious vertigo. Today my head is spinning and I'm trying to work.

I'm ok. I've got a sick toddler and I'm a bit under the weather myself so it's been a challenge. I'm staying fairly consistent with my step goal, but not great on staying on target with my calorie goal. I am rocking the water goal though!

Good morning everyone!

I'm not technically new to the group, but I've decided I need to become a more active member, so hello! It was a chilly -31C when I woke up this morning, so I think I will be staying inside, despite the beautiful (and deceiving) sunshine. YouTube workout video in place of the gym for sure!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

My cold moved into my lungs, so my coughing comes hard when I try to do too much. I hate that every time I try to get into a workout routine, it seems I get sick.

My dogs are pretty suspicious about exercise as well. One jumps, barks, and grabs my arms with his teeth if I do anything resembling dancing. (I guess that's his way of letting me know I truly can't dance. And he's right.) The other doesn't care about that, but if I move around too fast he tries to stop me because he thinks we're playing "chase". Both are big boys and if they don't want me doing something, they can pretty easily stop me.

I'm hoping to get a work out in after my little one goes to bed. It's really snowing outside so I might to be able to get to the gym if the roads are bad.

My alternative option is to do a workout with the Kinect and XBox 360. Not a bad alternative, but not my preference. My dog seems to think that I want to play when I use the Kinect and he "attacks" me. He'll jump on me or try to shove his tug in my hand. If I lay down to do crunches or planks he tries to lick my face or wrestle. He is a very large dog so he's not easy to ignore when he's being playful like that.

STARDUSTD- I wish I enjoyed strength training more. I probably don't like it as much as you do because I don't build muscle quickly and it takes so long to see results. I'm a little envious that you can see a visible payoff so quickly!

I'm itching to finish work so I can go to the gym. It's a strength training day, which I don't enjoy like cardio, but I do build muscle relatively quickly and am looking forward to seeing visible payoff in a few weeks time.

Well, I did not make it to the gym today. I've been battling a cold that seems to have settled in my lungs. I didn't think working out would be a great plan since breathing is a bit of a chore. I'm hoping to get back at it tomorrow. I feel much better after resting today.

My goals this year are to get back on track with my health.. I want to drink 8 cups of water a day, stay within my calorie range and exercise at least 3x a week.

I'm not setting a specific weight loss goal because I'd like to get pregnant again.

What are everyone's goals for the New Year?

I'm hoping to actually lose some weight. I'm trying to do the first 6 months of the year with no sweets. And I'm hoping to keep up with the running I started before the holidays.

I was lucky enough to get a few days off in between the holidays. I live alone, so it's easy to avoid the sweets and goodies, but I did give in and buy a pumpkin pie. I've behaved though. With the exception of the pie, I've been eating fairly healthy. And I've kept up with my daily calorie burn goal even after foolishly injuring myself. The day after I did it I really considered taking the whole day off and not worrying about it. But it was the 27th and I'd had a perfect month so far. It seem inexcusable to give up that close to the finish line. Plus I kind of like the idea of ringing in the New Year with a nice streak under my belt. Fingers crossed I can keep it up for the rest of the month. The 31st will have me on a plane for 16 hours. I'll have to make the other waking hours really count!

Yikes. On call is killer. My first 8 years at my job were all on call 24/7 for 18 days out of each month. There was a time when I jokingly accused my supervisor of bugging my house. No matter what time I went to sleep, it could be 9pm or 3am, the phone would ring an hour later. It can be hell on your body trying to adjust. Hope it gets better and those call come at decent hours!

I've been doing physical therapy for my should and upper back. I haven't been yet this week though since I am on call and that dang phone likes to ring at the dumbest times. Last night they woke me up at 11:30 PM and 01:30 AM. So I'm dragging butt this morning.

I've actually followed through with adding cardio this week. It's been good. I thought I would die trying to run on the treadmill, but it hasn't been so bad. It's even been easy enough that I'm going to have to bump it up next week.

In other news, I injured my shoulder on Monday during my small group workout class. Our trainer (a guy) got totally stressed out that I was crying. I was like, "Dude, you're gonna have to get used to this. People get hurt sometimes when working out. And sometimes, they cry. And it doesn't mean it's your fault." I see a shoulder specialist at a local orthopedic office Monday to find out what I did.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

I'm trying to kick up my cardio too. I had a really heavy work month and I really skimped on the exercise. The past few days I've been putting in a conscious effort to walk more and I plan to start jogging again soon. (I'd say tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain all day.) And I know what you mean about stairs. 4 years ago I bought my own home. I was so excited and I love having my own place. But what I didn't realize was that, for the first time in my life, I was living somewhere with no stairs. Very few occasions requiring stairs at work. It didn't even occur to me that that would mean anything until I visited at my mother's house a few months later. She asked me to run to the basement for something and I did. Literally. I ran back up those stairs just like I had my whole life. And found myself gasping for breath. I really hate knowing that a single flight gets my heart rate up and two or more get me out of breath even when walking. But with no steps in my life most of the time, I guess those muscles are really out of shape. One more thing to work on.

That's adorable. My 3 year old niece was helping momma decorate tonight, I love that wonder in their eyes.

I need to be more consistent with cardio. I get to the gym here and there. I try to walk my dog every day, but lately it's been raining a lot. I've got plenty of excuses, but I need to just push past them and get it done.

Christmas decorating in minimal this year. The almost two year old gets into everything so all the decorations have to be toddler safe or placed high out of reach. I love decorations, but I'm ok with the minimalist approach this year. Every morning when she wakes up she runs to the tree and wants me to turn on the lights. It's so fun to see her face light up when the tree does.

Oh I definitely need to work on cardio these days. I get winded just going up two floors of stairs. I'd work on taking stairs at work (18th floor), but you cannot access floors from the stair well.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I got all our Christmas decorations up already! I'm thinking of adding some sprints and some runs for distance to my workouts. I'm terrible at running and need to up my cardio. I hope everyone has a great week!

I'm ready! I bought all the food stuff last week. We don't have anyone joining us for Thanksgiving. We are relatively new to the area we live in and don't really know a lot of people yet. And the people we do know have family nearby coming in for Thanksgiving.

I'm mostly ready. We celebrate twice. Thursday with my in-laws and Friday with my family. It works since everyone is in the same city, but it's tiring. So much better than the alternatives though! We could have no family. Or we could celebrate all together... we tried that once and it did NOT go well.

I'm lucky that this year several other family members are trying to eat healthy. We'll have lots of healthy options at both of our Thanksgiving meals.

How about everyone else? Ready?

I'm doing a little better on tracking this week, but I'm not really staying in my calorie range. I either over or under eat each day. For now, I'm just trying to keep tracking, drinking, water and walking As long as I'm not going too crazy with the calories, I'm trying not to stress about it. That's the my compromise as I grieve.

Kay...the more the merrier!

It's actually a little chilly in Dallas today. You know it was 92 on Sunday while we walked 20 miles in the heat, but today the high is 49 lol. Got to love bipolar TX weather!

How is everyone doing with their tracking? I do well most days and not so well on other days. I need to find consistency.

Kay, please do just jump on in!!

Contrary to the weather forecast, the snow has stuck around a few days. I bought my daughter her first pair of snow boots. I tried to get her to try them out yesterday and you would have thought I was hurting her the way she cried and screamed. The fit lasted for a good half hour. This morning she was pointing outside and saying "play." I told her to go get her snow boots and to my surprise she did. I asked my husband to try putting them on her because I was getting ready to leave for work. I was sure she'd throw a fit , but nope! She was as happy as could be. My husband was less pleased because that meant he had to actually take her outside.

So, on a totally unrelated note, I made cookies tonight. I'm not sure exactly why. It was fun to let my daughter "help," but I wasn't really thinking about doing that when I started gathering the ingredients. I was thinking about how I didn't want to finish grading papers. Now I have to figure out what to do with all these cookies so I don't eat them!

We've been getting little flurries, but nothing is sticking yet. It's supposed to be bitterly cold this winter, which I believe. I had to get a coat earlier this year. While I hear it could get as low as -30 at some point this winter, we're not supposed to get as much snow as usual. It's just blustery and cold. We're getting winds around 50mph and weather in the 30s, though this past weekend was 40s/50s so it wasn't too bad.

Hi guys. I've been checking in on this chat for a while. I've always been reluctant to post because you all seem to have such a great rapport. But you're all so active! And it seems like I can never find many active people on this site. So I hope you don't mind if I join in the conversation.

They are saying no snow for us again this year and another mild winter...meaning another horrid summer where no bugs died during the winter. It's been bad the last couple of years. It was 91 here Saturday.

She complains about my weight a lot. She was like, but losing it quickly might motivate you to keep it off, etc.
1. I don't want the easy way out.
2. I can do this, I just need to keep my momentum
3. Who wants to deal with the pain, bruising and time off for lipo? Not me.

It is what it is, I've learned to try not to let her get to me. On another note, I didn't raise enough to do my 3 day walk this weekend, but I did raise enough to do the last 20 miles in honor of my mum, so I check into camp tonight and walk 20 miles for breast cancer tomorrow.

I have work and school, and this weekend an out of town friend is coming to stay with us. We usually don't allow anyone to stay with us, and would rather pay for their hotel than have guests, but we just don't have the money right now to spring for that. I hadn't thought she'd get the trip planned so didn't even think about it for awhile, but now the time has come and she's flying as I type. I have an allergist appointment next week so I am off all my meds except my anti-convulsants, so I can't even take any of my emergency anxiety pills to deal with the situation. I am trying to plan group outings over the weekend so I can at least have familiar people around me.

I know that feeling, Chrissy. When my husband and I were dating my MIL offered to buy my engagement ring and our wedding rings if we both lost 50lbs. Now that I am finally losing weight it's only made her nagging of my husband worse. I tried to stick up for him at church the other week by proudly telling her that he'd lost 15lbs, and she just replied that it should be 35lbs! She's started comparing her weight to mine, too. It's very demotivating when family members act like that.

Seriously!? I don't know what I'd do if my MIL said anything about my weight. And if she suggested lipo, I think I'd lose it. I'm sorry you hae to deal with that!

I've had a hard time getting into the gym since the pleurisy. We will get there eventually. Also I try to clean out my fridge once a week because gross food is left in there from left overs and won't get thrown away.

Last night i took a night off from exercise. it was garbage night so since i was going through the fridge, i wiped it out as well. not sure how crumbs get in there, but i got it cleaned out and shiny. i also found a few items that i forgot was in there. so tonight it was easier to throw together a quick supper

I'm not doing great on meeting my goal to track my meals and not snack at night. But it's a new day and I'll get there. The last few days I've been trying to talk myself into going to the gym, but I haven't made it. I thought today was going to be the day, but now I have a horrible headache developing.

Chrissy, thank you for your condolences. I know that it's hard to not ask yourself, "what did I do wrong?" I still find myself asking that question even knowing that I did everything "right."

good for you and not losing your momentum. Exercise will help with the depression you feel after your loss. I am sorry again for your loss, I too have lost a child, but have never been able to conceive again since. I will always wonder if it was something I did.
