I'm doing a little better on tracking this week, but I'm not really staying in my calorie range. I either over or under eat each day. For now, I'm just trying to keep tracking, drinking, water and walking As long as I'm not going too crazy with the calories, I'm trying not to stress about it. That's the my compromise as I grieve.

Kay...the more the merrier!

It's actually a little chilly in Dallas today. You know it was 92 on Sunday while we walked 20 miles in the heat, but today the high is 49 lol. Got to love bipolar TX weather!

How is everyone doing with their tracking? I do well most days and not so well on other days. I need to find consistency.

Kay, please do just jump on in!!

Contrary to the weather forecast, the snow has stuck around a few days. I bought my daughter her first pair of snow boots. I tried to get her to try them out yesterday and you would have thought I was hurting her the way she cried and screamed. The fit lasted for a good half hour. This morning she was pointing outside and saying "play." I told her to go get her snow boots and to my surprise she did. I asked my husband to try putting them on her because I was getting ready to leave for work. I was sure she'd throw a fit , but nope! She was as happy as could be. My husband was less pleased because that meant he had to actually take her outside.

So, on a totally unrelated note, I made cookies tonight. I'm not sure exactly why. It was fun to let my daughter "help," but I wasn't really thinking about doing that when I started gathering the ingredients. I was thinking about how I didn't want to finish grading papers. Now I have to figure out what to do with all these cookies so I don't eat them!

We've been getting little flurries, but nothing is sticking yet. It's supposed to be bitterly cold this winter, which I believe. I had to get a coat earlier this year. While I hear it could get as low as -30 at some point this winter, we're not supposed to get as much snow as usual. It's just blustery and cold. We're getting winds around 50mph and weather in the 30s, though this past weekend was 40s/50s so it wasn't too bad.

Hi guys. I've been checking in on this chat for a while. I've always been reluctant to post because you all seem to have such a great rapport. But you're all so active! And it seems like I can never find many active people on this site. So I hope you don't mind if I join in the conversation.

They are saying no snow for us again this year and another mild winter...meaning another horrid summer where no bugs died during the winter. It's been bad the last couple of years. It was 91 here Saturday.

She complains about my weight a lot. She was like, but losing it quickly might motivate you to keep it off, etc.
1. I don't want the easy way out.
2. I can do this, I just need to keep my momentum
3. Who wants to deal with the pain, bruising and time off for lipo? Not me.

It is what it is, I've learned to try not to let her get to me. On another note, I didn't raise enough to do my 3 day walk this weekend, but I did raise enough to do the last 20 miles in honor of my mum, so I check into camp tonight and walk 20 miles for breast cancer tomorrow.

I have work and school, and this weekend an out of town friend is coming to stay with us. We usually don't allow anyone to stay with us, and would rather pay for their hotel than have guests, but we just don't have the money right now to spring for that. I hadn't thought she'd get the trip planned so didn't even think about it for awhile, but now the time has come and she's flying as I type. I have an allergist appointment next week so I am off all my meds except my anti-convulsants, so I can't even take any of my emergency anxiety pills to deal with the situation. I am trying to plan group outings over the weekend so I can at least have familiar people around me.

I know that feeling, Chrissy. When my husband and I were dating my MIL offered to buy my engagement ring and our wedding rings if we both lost 50lbs. Now that I am finally losing weight it's only made her nagging of my husband worse. I tried to stick up for him at church the other week by proudly telling her that he'd lost 15lbs, and she just replied that it should be 35lbs! She's started comparing her weight to mine, too. It's very demotivating when family members act like that.

Seriously!? I don't know what I'd do if my MIL said anything about my weight. And if she suggested lipo, I think I'd lose it. I'm sorry you hae to deal with that!

Is there anything we can do to help you with your goals?

I've had a hard time getting into the gym since the pleurisy. We will get there eventually. Also I try to clean out my fridge once a week because gross food is left in there from left overs and won't get thrown away.

Last night i took a night off from exercise. it was garbage night so since i was going through the fridge, i wiped it out as well. not sure how crumbs get in there, but i got it cleaned out and shiny. i also found a few items that i forgot was in there. so tonight it was easier to throw together a quick supper

I'm not doing great on meeting my goal to track my meals and not snack at night. But it's a new day and I'll get there. The last few days I've been trying to talk myself into going to the gym, but I haven't made it. I thought today was going to be the day, but now I have a horrible headache developing.

Chrissy, thank you for your condolences. I know that it's hard to not ask yourself, "what did I do wrong?" I still find myself asking that question even knowing that I did everything "right."

good for you and not losing your momentum. Exercise will help with the depression you feel after your loss. I am sorry again for your loss, I too have lost a child, but have never been able to conceive again since. I will always wonder if it was something I did.

After our loss I managed not to lose any momentum on my walking routine or water intake, but my sleep schedule and eating habits took a turn for the worse. This week I'm going to try to focus on getting back into the routine of recording my meals, not snacking in the evening when I'm grading, and getting to bed before midnight.

I was slacking on my water last week, so I am going to try to focus on that this week. My birthday is this week, and this should be our last week without money, so I am focusing on trying to eat healthy with the treats people are offering and within our limited means.

How exciting to have a personal trainer! I had one way back in the day when I still lived in Houston and was a regular at Balley's...well my gym now doesn't have paid trainers, they have people you can talk to get help though, but they don't work you like a personal trainer did.

My husband approved my signing a contract with the personal trainer! I get to keep seeing them and working on my weaker areas and improving my form. He says my form is pretty good and I am pretty strong, but my back is weak and I hold most of my weight in my legs.

I am so excited about the trainer. I gave up my designer clothing box for it, but I am not even a client yet and I did 5 sit-ups on my own at our last appointment. Two weeks ago I couldn't do any! I am looking forward to what happens in the next 13 weeks (the first contract period).

I decided with this new healthy life I've taken on that I needed a big change. I wanted something, other than the weight loss, to represent the new me. So I donated 2lbs of my hair to Children With Hair Loss.

I whine about it to my friends and my husband, lol. They'll usually motivate me. My friends with love and compliments, and my husband with tough love and sometimes by just picking me up and putting me where I should be. I also come here and read the community feed. Seeing other people being motivated can help perk me up a bit.

Yeah I left my last job for similar reasons as some of you said. He was very sexist and was an HR nightmare, but the company did not have a formal HR so he got away with it. There were only 2 female developers on the team, when this guy came in to be our boss, she left within 6 months, I left 3 months after her. Later I found out 4 of the guys left because they just didn't want to work for the jerk either. I loved the company and their culture, but I couldn't work for someone that was constantly sexually harassing women in the office and tell me how terrible and how much I suck all the time, yet never write me up formally or fire me. In a review I asked him straight up, If I'm so terrible, why haven't you fired me? He didn't have an answer, I put in my notice less than a month later.

Most people leave a company because of a boss or an employee, not necessarily the company. What is sad, that last company was bought out by a bigger company, half the people were let go, but that guy is still there....

At my last job there was an employee who was CONSTANTLY making racist, sexist, ableist, and other nasty remarks - not just about other employees, but about the kids! The department had lost at least 5 people because of her, and had dozens of complaints about her. They never did anything, though. They'd occasionally bring her into the boss' office and tell her to cut it out, but then she'd just come back to the department ranting about she "calls it as she sees it" and she's "not going to change because people don't like hearing the truth". Part of the reason I was hired (and this is actually true for several of my past employers) is because I come off as quiet and soothing, so they were hoping I would even out the volatile dynamic in that department.

At the office where the manage assaulted the vendor the first thing he ever said to me was "You look like you're 12!", and he was constantly surprised by the things I knew how to do (how fast I could type, that I knew military time, that I had taught myself the financial procedures to balance the books, etc.) because he thought I was so young. When I left he asked for a list of the duties I performed so he could split them with the other clerks and was completely aghast when I handed him a 4-page list. I was a little pleased with the response as he spent days trying to get me to stay after that. His motto was that we're all replaceable and we shouldn't think we're too important for him to fire. I think my list opened his eyes a bit.

It's amazing what people can get away with sometimes. My boss at my previous job was known to make illegal comments about gender and such during job interviews. He treated the male employees so much better than the females. He harassed and talked down to all the female and non-American staff. When I left, I was so traumatized that it took me a year to complain about my treatment. (Though my husband who was in law school at the time kept trying to get me to complain right away.) When I complained, I told HR that I wasn't pursing legal action (although I could), but I wanted a record of my experiences because another employee would complain in the future. It was inevitable. I wanted the record to show that there was a pattern of behavior so that the next person was taken seriously. I also expressed my concerns that he was working in a job that supported a very vulnerable population.

It took 6 women complaining over 5 years for action to be taken. He was fired after the last woman he harassed (an attorney, no less) complained. I don't believe in karma, but if I did I would say "It's a bitch." Recently he got to the final round of interviews at a local non-profit. A board member who knows me remembered that I had worked for this man in the past. So she asked me if I'd be willing to discuss experience. It was hard not to dump everything on her, but I managed to stay professional. He didn't get the job. Good thing because it was another position leading a non-profit that supports young pregnant women.

In my current position, it's a different story. My supervisor is a good, kind person, but a terrible, disorganized leader. She can't make decisions and basically sucks at her job. In some ways, it's harder when you like the person. Sometimes it's tempting to want to cover up her incompetence, but what good does that do? It only makes your job even more difficult in the future.

I'm dreading telling my supervisor about my pregnancy. On the one had, I know she'll be happy for me. She has been very accommodating with my schedule and allows me to work at home 2 days a week . BUT she often crosses the line. I know she means well, but she's not my mom. She often says things she shouldn't such as, "Are you sure you want to teach that course? You have kid at home to take care of. Maybe you don't have the time." Or during my performance review, "You're so nurturing of your students. You're like the department mom." Umm... WHAT?! I had to ask her when she said those things, "Would you say that about my male colleagues? I would prefer if left my personal life out of the discussion." I know that as soon as I tell her about the new baby she's going to want to advise me about how it's going to be hard to continue to work fulltime and other such stuff that isn't her business.

I know that feeling. I had a job I enjoyed with fantastic coworkers, and the bosses were okay. Not amazing, but okay. Then the main boss retired and her replacement was brought in off the street. No application, no interview, no background screening - he was just a friend of the other boss. And he was AWFUL. Didn't read the union rule book, tried changing everything about our jobs (even when it violated union rules), and even changed the structure of the office so that he wouldn't have to deal with any of us asking him questions. If the clerk he promoted to office manager couldn't answer, or felt uncomfortable answering, and referred us to him he would lecture us about rules of hierarchy and how we weren't supposed to come to him. We ultimately ended up making management level decisions on our own. There were some absolutely crazy issues, but I think the last straw for me was when he assaulted one of our vendors. We had construction going on in our back lot and since he stayed in his office (or wasn't even in the building) for his shifts he didn't recognize any of the crew working on our lot. Protocol dictated that all vendors leave their ID with the clerks when working on our lots when they sign in, so the poor guy didn't have his ID. Our manager shoved him and grabbed at him, almost dragging him inside to demand his ID from the clerk who had them. While she found it all the indoor staff vouched for him as we all saw him several times a day. When she pulled out his ID he just told the guy he shouldn't be so suspicious and left. No apologies or anything.

A good boss makes all the difference. Before I started my current job, I had a job that I really loved. I loved helping the clients, I loved the people I worked with and for... but then my boss retired. And the new boss was a misogynistic,self-centered ass. I made it about a year under his "leadership." It was a miserable year that took a large toll on my health and my marriage.

When I started working at the university, I had an amazing boss. While the work was less fulfilling, I learned so much from her especially about setting healthy boundaries between work and home. When she left the department, I was so sad. I understood her reasoning, but I knew I would miss working with her.

Now I find myself once again working for an incompetent boss. It is beyond frustrating. It makes it harder to remember the things that I enjoy about the work when I'm always struggling to accomplish my job due to incompetence and disorganization.

Yeah I've been playing the new crowd funding trivia game to try and get my student loans paid off...nothing out there for me with a degree in computers either.

That's cool you get free popcorn. We only get free coffee that is not that good (buy my own) and a filtered water/ice machine. We do get to have casual Friday's though, and my boss is awesome.

I was really disappointed, especially since I talked to the director of that department who had absolutely zero problems with my needing sponsorship and even thought I would be perfect for a specific position she had. She encouraged me to apply! I was looking forward to it, I would have learned so much and I would have loved to interact with the kids. The library was a safe haven for me as a bullied pre-teen and teen, and I wanted to give that kind of safe space to others in return. And yeah, the loan forgiveness would have been amazing. I left the school district for a law firm that primarily does corporate law, so no loan forgiveness now. But hey, they have an on-site gym, discounted classes from the YMCA, casual Fridays, and free popcorn.

wow, that sucks that they cancelled because you needed sponsorship. Oh well, their loss, right?
My sister got her student loans paid off because she worked 5 years in a low income school district, so that is at least good for her.

I moved to my current job from the public school system. I wasn't a teacher, I worked in the records library and was a liaison to the special education department. The job change more than DOUBLED my pay. I loved working for the school district, and really loved how important my job was - no direct interaction with the kiddos but it definitely had an impact on the services they received. I just wasn't making enough money, which on my outtake interview was the first thing I was asked since our boss knew we made squat for what is done in that department. I even got an interview for a teaching position since it would have been about a $10K raise and with a teaching position I could have gotten a temporary teaching license and been able to finish my teaching degree without taking all the time off from work I'd need otherwise, but as soon as they found out I'd need their sponsorship to get the license my interview was cancelled.

Great job on getting a good assessment with the trainers. You've come a long way and you should be very proud of yourself.

There is definitely a shortage of teachers. They pay sucks and the rewards in it is just hoping some kids will learn and grow from you and remember you later. My sister loves what she does, but she struggles every day financially being a single mom and a kindergarten teacher. She has been teaching for 12 years and just now before all the taxes and stuff they take out for pension is making 35k a year. I help her out by paying her internet bill for her and buying things for my niece when she needs them.

Consultation went really well! They did a body analysis thing, which they'll give me a copy of at my next appointment. I am still considered obese (which I knew), but the fat around my organs is in the normal range, and my muscle is in the normal range. I was stronger and more flexible than he expected, and both the trainers working with me were very impressed with the weight loss success I've had so far. They're willing to keep working with me and saw some good goals for me. The gym manager was working with me, and he even said they could correct my pigeon toes and overarched back. Most miraculously I did a FULL SIT-UP. It was an assisted sit-up, with the trainer helping me with a resistance band, but I was doing all the work while he just kind of guided me up. He estimates 6 weeks and I'll be doing them entirely on my own. I was in shock with that first sit-up when I was all the way up by my knees! So exhilarating!

I think there's a teacher shortage just about everywhere right now. There's not enough students going into teaching, large numbers of retirements, and teachers leaving the field (both of the cataloging librarians I work with are former teachers!). My state has the severest deprivation of Home Ec teachers though. I think math was next worst? Media Specialist was on the list, too. I see openings for media specialists all the time, but they really get no respect. I saw one that said full-time but only offered 3 hours per day! How is that full-time?!

I am meeting with a personal trainer today. I don't know how much I need one, but the consultation to see if I need their services is free and so are the first two sessions to see if I like them, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I am hoping they can work with me on tightening up my form so I am doing things correctly and working on more concentrated strength training. I've read the only real thing you can do for loose skin other than surgery is develop your muscles, so I want to get working harder on that since I already have a lot of loose skin and I still have 74lbs to go.

I was an elementary school teacher for 2 years and it was not for me. Now I work at a small liberal arts university as support staff, but I also teach a freshman course as an adjunct. I much prefer the college age kids to little ones.

We have a HUGE teaching shortage in my state and are desperate for all kinds of teachers. I work in the school of education at the university and we're hearing about how the state wants us to certify more teachers and faster. Which is not necessary a good recipe for quality teachers.

I didn't do student teaching so I can't teach K-12, I can only teach college. If I were to finish my student teaching I could teach Jr./Sr. High School Sociology, K-12 Home Economics, or K-12 Library/Media. I considered going back and finishing that, but it's just so time intensive. I'd have had to quit my job because of the hours devoted to student teaching. There's a HUGE lack of Home Economics teachers in my state, though, so I'd have had my pick of jobs pretty much at any school I wanted. The enrollment advisor even had people asking if I'd choose their school, so she was pretty disappointed when I decided not to continue. Maybe something to consider if I ever want a career change? I could ride the school bus with the kiddos, lol

While there are virtual librarian ("cybrarian") positions, there's not many of them and I am still a relative newbie to the field since I only graduated in 2014. I most likely wouldn't be hired, though, since my background isn't in technology - my background is more reference and special libraries (private collections, prison libraries, and law libraries). I am qualified to teach online since I have a virtual teacher certificate, but most of those postings require a PhD so I am not quite there yet. I do have my toe in the virtual teaching world now, though, since I got a contract for the adjunct pool I interviewed for. That will look good on my resume once I do finish my PhD, and it's such a WONDERFUL program helping low-income students around the world. My current job is 100% do-able from home...now to just convince them of that, lol!

I am just over the brink into one-derland, so I need to focus on maintaining that. I tend to have a big loss then gain it back, making my next loss twice as hard. I never do it intentionally, but there is some sort of subconscious thing going on where I panic over the good news. I have tried to be good all week, my biggest splurges were some popcorn at work and a tofu and goat cheese wrap for dinner last night. Tomorrow is weigh day...we'll see if I was able to keep it off emoticon

40 is pretty darn close! Totally do-able. Keep going emoticon

I am glad that your friend understood, as much as it sucks, she knows your situation because she is in as well. Sounds like a pretty rural area to not have much options. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like an at home job is most optimal for you, but you'd have to do some searching to find one that it a good fit. I know there are data entry jobs they let you do from home, if you are not into selling.

Wow, onderland is amazing! Congrats. I haven't been there since 2006 I think. I am still about 40 pounds away though.

On a more pleasant note, I finally hit one-derland! I was hovering around 199 on Wednesday, and dropped to 198 Thursday. I kept going strong Friday and Saturday and Saturday night I weighed in at 196! I can't make 196 official until Wednesday of course, so right now I am sticking with 199 as my weight, but I am SO excited. I haven't been under 200lbs since at least 2001/2002. My pants are starting to get baggy again, which means I will have to cancel my Dia subscription soon since their smallest size is 14. I bought some cardigans at Walmart the other night ($13!!) and my husband made me stop and reflect on the fact that I COULD buy them at Walmart. I didn't used to fit into their sizes.

And as an exciting bonus my husband dropped below 300lbs! He needs a new belt and his pants are almost too saggy to keep wearing, even with a belt. He's feeling more inspired now that he's seeing some NSVs and is being very conscientious with his daily food tracking. He was feeling overwhelmed by losing only 2-3lbs per week (which I reassured him was a perfectly good amount to lose, and a very healthy amount, and even what I have averaged since I began) and that his estimate put him at meeting his goal weight in 15 months (which is fantastic, and I pointed out I've been going 11 months and won't meet my goal until about 18 months so he's doing really well). So I am glad he's feeling better about it and am so proud of him.

I talked to her this morning. I gave her a cookie and a breakfast shake to try to soften the blow. We're giving her through October before we end it so she can try to figure something else out, and I am going to talk to my husband again tonight about them switching off every two weeks so we can pay her half. He didn't really like the idea last night, but maybe when he's not so tired tonight he'll be more willing to think about it.

She cried. She says she absolutely understands and she's not angry at me, she's just angry at the situation and how it's just one more thing on top of all the other things going on right now, but that if our roles were reversed she would probably have to do the same thing. I feel awful, but kind of relieved that I am no longer "plotting" behind her back.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I guess what occurred to me while reading is that if you don't change things, you could potentially wind up financially ruined and homeless. I'm sure she doesn't want that for you any more that want that for her. Is it possible to cut back on the driving that she does for you in increments to give her time to find another source of income?

There is no Uber or Lyft in my area (I found that out the hard way!) and it is not a walkable or bikeable distance. Even if it were, it requires traveling on an interstate so I wouldn't be able to. We pay her about ~$25 a day to take me to work and any needed doctor appointments, a taxi equivalent would be ~$30 to get me to work. There are no community rideshare stops near me, either, and nobody at work lives near me. I am not so much concerned about getting to work since my husband can take me (it's just at stupid o'clock in the morning) as I am at financially ruining my friend. Paying her is slowly ruining us, but she absolutely relies on the income we pay her to survive. She could lose her home or her car, and in turn her job, if we stop paying her. But we've had multiple bills go into collections and I've even been refused medical care due to an unpaid bill because we just can't afford to keep up while still paying her. I know we have to stop, but I don't know how to tell my best friend of 25 years "I know this could make you homeless and jobless, but I have to fire you".

Wow, that sounds really scary. I know I'd be scared. I am sorry to hear that you are still very stressed. $600 a month is a lot to pay for someone to drive you around. Even a taxi for me I don't think would cost that much a month. I understand they are your bff, but you have to be able to pay your own bills as well. Do you have Uber or Lyft where you are? If work is not that far away, it shouldn't cost very much, you can at least do a price comparison compared to what you are paying per month. Is it close enough to ride a bicycle?

I am at kind of a loss for what to do with a personal situation that is giving me so much stress I am having cravings (thank goodness my husband doesn't let me give in). I don't drive for medical reasons, so when I got my new job and it didn't mesh with my husband's schedule we offered to pay my BFF to drive me to work and appointments. She's moved since and we've had to increase what we pay her. We're paying her about $600 per month which is hitting us really hard financially. We've wanted to fire her for awhile - she's continually late, hits hubby up for cash, vapes in the car even though she knows I have asthma and allergies, and keeps dragging us into all kinds of drama. But we're now getting even further and further behind in paying our bills. Just having that $600 per month would so quickly get us caught back up. Only I don't know how to fire her. She's my BFF and she only works part-time because she's on disability, losing the $600 would financially devastate her. I'm also not too keen on having to be at work 2 hours early if my hubby takes me, or putting up an ad to find someone new for less.

It can be, especially when it lasts all day. But I am epileptic so I know that it means I need to figure out what is triggering it since my medication has been doing a good job of keeping the seizures under control. My sleep has been cruddy lately, so that was a possibility, but I haven't been severely sleep deprived so it shouldn't be getting this bad. I am stressed from school, money, and all the social interactions I've been having to do lately, but I can't do anything about that except wait for the most part. So food was my next option. I've added weights to my routine and my cardio has gotten longer, and I weigh less than the last time I did a calorie check. It seemed like the answer so I checked in to see what the supertracker said I should be eating, especially since my husband has jumped on board I've been eating even less (averaging 1000 versus 1300) as he figures out what he should be eating and just how calories actually work, and thar it be. I need to work on bumping my calories up closer to 1500 without adding any more carbs to my diet.

I have been feeling really shaky lately, pre-seizure and tired. Blurry vision, lots of low potassium twitching. I've also been REALLY hungry lately. I decided to redo my body weight planner on the USDA super tracker since I last did it somewhere around 50lbs or more ago, and yup - there's my problem. When I last looked it said I should be eating in the high 1200s (I rounded up to 1300), and now it says I should be eating 1582 calories per day (with a goal of losing my last 80lbs by my birthday next year and sticking with my current exercise routine). I'm starting to seize again because lack of food is a trigger and with my exercise I'm not getting enough! I've already boosted my lunches and dinners, I might have to look at boosting my breakfast, too. Maybe add a daily banana or something. Bananas are carb-y, but they do have potassium.

I do have pinterest, but don't use it much. I forget about it a lot. It is a good idea though, might log on and check it later. I do have it on my phone. All social media is blocked at work, I'm sure that falls into that category or similar. I have access to low carb stuff through medi website also, since I am technically a customer there.

When Pinterest first started I got an invite but it didn't work. The site is blocked at my job, so I just never bothered signing up. I have sooo many cookbooks in my kitchen and on my kindle, anyway emoticon

Shahshyk, ooh, fritatta sounds like a good idea. Good way to get lots of veggies and protein in.

Oh and I gotta admit, I don't search sparkrecipes often anymore since I got Pinterest.
I just search for whatever dish I was with 'low carb' or 'low cal' or 'vegetarian' at the end. Or search for things like 'best protein sources', and it always turns up infographics and recipes.
Plus? tons of pictures. lol.

If you check the vegetarian section there's some pretty good recipes here on Spark. You can check the vegetarian option then set it to meet calories/carbs/etc and the recipes that meet that parameter will pop up. I just looked for vegetarian, under 500 calories, under 50 carbs (the lowest setting), and over 30g protein and got a TON of recipes. I made the Low Carb Egg and Cottage Cheese Salad for my picnic on Saturday and it was a hit. Tasted great! I found one for Indian Okra, actually, that I think I might have to try...

I need some of these low carb, high protein (non animal) recipes you guys have. I'd love to change it up and get protein from somewhere other than meat and cheese, I'm so bored with it. Are there any good recipes here on spark?

Man this sinus infection is kicking my butt. I just want to feel better.

That taco filling sounds pretty darn good. I do love a good taco. I bet it would be great in a bowl with a little cheese and vegan sour cream (seriously, it tastes better than the real stuff - lasts longer, too).

Sorry I've been absent for a while. Fall term started up again so it has been crazy busy at work. Thanks to everyone for such great ideas to get protein!

I'm trying something new this week that I hope will work to help me get more veggies in my diet without forgetting the protein. I've adjusted one of Chef Meg's frittata recipes that I found on the recipe database. I heat up a frittata and eat it alone or with an English muffin.

Still struggling with getting in enough calcium, but I'm improving.

Yeah, there are plenty of ways to get protein without meat... beans and quinoa being some of my favorites. I make veggie taco filling for the freezer sometimes... mixed beans, quinoa, riced cauliflower, peppers, onions. Chili is a good bean food, too. I literally put half a dozen different types of beans into my chili. It's a little bit of a pain to calculate calories, and I don't always use the Recipe Calculator for chili the way I do for lasagna or meatballs, I just pick a vegetarian chili in the database and use measurements from that. lol.

I use whey protein for my shakes at home, but, usually end up getting pea protein when I'm traveling, because a lot of the proteins have soy in them (bad for my thyroid so I avoid it).

I also have PCOS and do low cal, but I stick to plant proteins mostly. My nutritionist told me getting 80-100g protein per day was definitely possible without meat and she was right! I pretty easily hit that or more. Ooh, I could do bean salad or facon cheese (veggie)burger soup.

Low carb works best for me because of PCOS. So I rely a lot on animal protein. I'm currently doing no sugar or any fruit but berries to start, but I gradually bring them back into my diet as I get back on track.

I've made A LOT of adjustments to my routine over the past 18 months, trial and error.

So, don't plan meals out per se, but, I do have plenty of things already prepped and measured in the freezer for easy logging. Dark meat chicken, turkey/quinoa meatballs, choripollo (pork chorizo cut with ground turkey and riced cauliflower). I didn't eat a ton of meat before, but, have been relying mainly on animal proteins since I've been increasing that macro. Having a variety there is key, I can pick one of the things I have prepped and add it to whatever is in the fridge... leftover veggies, low cal tortillas (Ole Xtreme wellness or Mama Lupes), bagged salads, pastas, etc.

I can't really handle animal proteins so I try to avoid them as much as possible. I'm going to try to add nuts and cheese back to the rotation, too. And maybe baked potatoes - my potassium is REALLY low.

It sounds like you are a master at meal planning. I am working on it. I am planning meals for the week tonight and will go to the store and prepare things tomorrow. I really need to get into a healthier routine with my eating. Got any other great suggestions?

For my lunches, I do a lot of chicken now (I was doing smoothies with protein powder, frozen bananas and almond milk for awhile). Like whenever the local grocer has chicken leg quarters on special, I'll roast up two sheet pans full of chicken, then pull the meat off into 6oz portions and drop them into bags in the freezer. So, I just heat them up at lunch. Sometimes I'll put them in a salad or sandwich or something or serve with steamed veggies, other times I'll just put in two tbs of sour cream and some seasoning and mix it up with the chicken.

I've also got meatballs made with ground turkey and beans and mushrooms and quinoa. 1oz meatballs are about 45 calories apiece. Reheating them from the freezer... I can put them in things, too, or just eat them plain or with a little dab of bbq sauce.
