I've been on call all week and weekend and they just keep calling, so my steps are not where I wanted them this week either. Today starts a new week though, so hopefully I can reach my goals this week.

That's cool, I need something insulated better most days.

My steps have fallen off since I've been sick the past week+, can't wait till I can get moving again, just feeling so sluggish.

I do now have a 30 oz ozark cup, the one from Walmart that stays cold with ice for 12-14 hours at my desk. I find with cold water I sip it more often. I have done really well with increasing my water this week. I'm not quite where I need to be yet, but I am getting closer!

Congrats on getting closer to your step goal! For the water intake, I keep a 3 cup water bottle within reach and full my coffee cup out of it. Maybe something like that would help?

morning everyone. So my steps have increased, but I haven't quite made it to the 10k steps I want. I am going to play tennis with my coworkers at lunch, so that should be fun. I'm doing a little better with water, but still lacking. I even downloaded the app to remind me, but I don't look at my phone a lot of the day at work.

The trip up to SD is a go. No real weather to speak of for the weekend. Not worried about the drive up, just about dealing with the grandparents. Here is hoping that they keep the verbal abuse to a minimum, especially to my mom. May we have a safe trip!

Those are really nice goals CHRISSYWILSON80.

I've done the "New page for a fresh start" thing too and as simple as it is it really has helped. Hope it works out that way for you too!

I also decided to go for the lifetime premium. One of the things I've always loved about SP is that it's free, but the ads were slowing the site down way too much for me to enjoy using, and I'm liking the daily routine of sparkcoach too.

welcome without a trace, happy to have you as part of the team.

Yes, I find myself a bit more inspired with the new page. I haven't blogged or finished setting up my spark page yet, but I've logged in every day for a few days. I also downloaded the water app from spark to help me try to remember to drink my water.

Some of my goals:

Drink 80 oz+ of water a day
Get back into the gym at least 3 days a week
increase my fitbit steps
make more meals at home.

Tammy, same here! I was so defeatist about it before.
But, since I've read you get the metabolism boost with at least 10 minutes, that's what I shoot for.

Yesterday I was sick, but, I did 10 minutes three times throughout the day, and managed to get the 30 I was shooting for.

10 minutes till my next meeting or till the kids get home? That's enough time to jump up and get moving.

Happy New Year everyone!

How were the holidays?! mine were ok - other than being sick for part of it. I had a cold that is now finally clearing up. My boyfriend and I spent Christmas with my parents who live 1/2 hour away from us. My brother, his wife and youngest son came from out of town. New Years was a quiet night at home.

Tammy - you are not alone in the all or nothing attitude and it can definitely be a hinderance to us! I try to think to myself instead - something is better than nothing... and often just by starting, I'll end up doing more. I don't usually have set time workouts - I usually am on the treadmill - and when I get on I set an intention of either a time or a distance. Usually 30min, 45min or 4k, or 5km...

Chrissy - Are you finding more motivation with your new page?

I've set some resolutions - but really they are on-going from last year - basically I want to: emoticon increase my daily active minutes (tracked by Fitbit)
emoticon reduce my debt by 75%
emoticon strengthen my relationships with family & friends
emoticon continue to art journal and express myself creatively

i am working on dumping the all or nothing attitude. i found a 20 minute exercise video that is 5 days long. i figure i will do it for weeks. however i play to increase weight or intensity as i do them. yes i am used to 30 minutes, but i have been getting a 30 or nothing attitude and some nights i want to get other tasks done and i struggle to find 35 uninterupted minutes to do my workouts. i want to work at increasing my intensity. so shorter bursts may help me do a routine with more power. id rather do these shorter ones instad of nothing.

Sounds like low key Christmas here! I got sick last week and thankfully was feeling well enough to celebrate Christmas with my family. We spent the weekend with my parents who live 1/2 hour drive away. My brother, his wife and their youngest of 4 (he is 2 years old) were here too. We had a nice time. I found it harder to manage my diet there as I didn't have the control of what we had, but did try to control portions...

Heather - great job on volunteering at the food pantry! I'm sure they are happy to have you there! Sorry to hear you've been sick - it makes sense that you would get sick when exposed to so many people when you're not used to it. The flu shot will only protect you from getting 'influenza' and if you still get it, it wouldn't be as bad as it would be without having had the shot. It doesn't protect against colds and other viruses or bacterias. I hope you are on the mend so that you can focus your energy on finding out what your block is around 200... I am struggling at breaking 240 but I know that this has become my new 'set point' and I need to step things up a bit more to bust this wall.

Sarah - glad you had a good Christmas! and yes... short weeks are nice. I am lucky enough to have the week off with my boyfriend so we are getting in lots of quality time together.

Jessi - hope you had an amazing holiday with your family!!

Crimson - I did the same... I used to be bellamagoo78 back in 2008 when I first started on spark. I came back recently as bellamagoo after a long break and for a fresh start - but I deleted my old account which I now kind of wish I didn't as I would have liked to have the old numbers to compare, on the other hand... it's the past and I'm leaving it behind. I don't want to dredge it up... I know where I came from and I'm still on the journey but in a much better place these days. I hope you will find the new profile more motivating and helpful on your journey.

Tammy - hope you're feeling better and back on track!

Miss - so glad you are doing it for yourself! Sounds like you really overcame some challenges in your family to get going on your own for yourself! emoticon

I have been volunteering at a food pantry since my job is... Ahem... Non-existent. Unfortunately this means that I have A LOT of contact with people. This is a far cry from my hermit lifestyle as of late. What that means is that I am now sick. I was pretty good yesterday then night came and the cold/flu (despite having a flu shot) started in earnest.

This means two things: 1. I am not exercising (big surprise there), and 2: my eating is down. I am making sure to get enough protein during the day and not much else. I tried to have a bit of dessert earlier and I just couldn't eat it. This is going to make me lose weight, but not in a manner I am okay with.

Darn bugs!

At least Christmas was pretty low key and low stress. Here is hoping that I am feeling up to going to a friend's new year's party.

Moral: stay healthy!

hey everyone just a heads up that if you see posts start tomorrow from ChrissyWilson80, that is me, I created a new profile. I only did this to help try to motivate me again, like I'm starting all over and can be accountable again. Trying for a fresh healthy start again. I'm not getting rid of this profile, I've had it a long time. I'm just going to focus on spark more with the new profile.

I feel your pain. He's not into physical exercise at all these days. He'd rather sit and watch tv or tinker with his gadgets. I really need to just learn to do it for me and not worry about if it bothers anyone else. Only I can fix myself, I shouldn't rely on others to get me where I need to be.

It's been hard for me with my family, especially my husband since he's such a vocal critic. It's all an insult if I eat something he doesn't or don't want to eat something he does or don't want to sit down and watch tv. I mean, we never DO anything. I had made half-hearted attempts but, wasn't get anyway except a bit of grief. Finally had to just buckle down for me and do it. If we don't go hiking anymore, fine, I'm getting a used treadmill. Months of grief, but, now he's finally used to it and it's just normal for me to get on it during lunch and when our kids are playing video games next to me. Trying to make it my new normal I think has mostly stuck. It's been weird being the odd one out for everything, but, just trying to thing 'their plates' and 'my plate' are totally separate things and 'their ways to unwind' are different than 'my ways to unwind'. ~shrugs~

I've been stuck at the 230s for a year now. I did well, lost over 20 pounds and then just stopped. I've some how maintained, but can't seem to get under 230. I know I need to change eating habits again and get more exercise in again, I just get home and with a lazy family, I want to be lazy too. I too know about self sabotage.

Been at two hundred and I have run into a problem: self sabotage. For some reason my brain thinks that I should be holding on to the 200's and I can't figure out why. I used to have troubles thinking that I didn't deserve to be healthy (strange but so it goes), so I wonder if that is cropping up again. I have been eating strangely and underestimating calories for things like desserts (thanks to Christmas there are no shortage). It is time to get back to my normal eating.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) I have to be away from my house for two to three days per week. Volunteering with a food pantry that I really like up in town (90 miles away). Can I do that here? Sorta. But I like that place better. Problem is that I tend to eat out when at my parents' house. I need to take my food with me and stick to it more often or at least estimate my calories better while eating out. And no desserts. Dear Lord, no desserts. They are my weakness and I know it.

So I need to figure out a way to get past the guilt or whatever is causing this behavior. At least today, after three cups of tea, I managed to get out and go swimming in my brand new suit. It sorta fits. I need to find something with an underwire.

Anyway, good luck getting through the season with minds intact! Stay warm too, it is cold out there.

The ER did suggest to have my gal bladder checked. They could find nothing wrong with my heart. I have this tightness in my chest that seems to not go away, it's really uncomfortable. I guess it's good to rule out my heart, even at age 36, since heart disease runs in my family on both sides, at this point I just want to know why I don't feel right though. I need to get into the doctor again, but I already have time scheduled off in a week, so I will wait till then, unless anything gets worse.

Crimson - hope you feel better soon - and can find out the cause of the chest pain. Pain will cause your pulse to go up too... I had gallbladder attacks that felt like a vice in my chest - I actually thought I was having a heart attack the first time I had an attack. I was driving on the highway in a pretty rural area and was going to drive straight to the ER, but by the time I got to town it had pretty much gone away. It happened a few more times.. usually in the afternoons and I started doing some research and was pretty sure it was my gallbladder. I was right... doctor did an ultrasound and found the big stone and I had elective surgery in 2012 to remove my gallbladder. No issues since emoticon

Chrimson, my mom was having bad chest pains - the ER doctor ended up putting her on nitro tablets. Boy, wasn't she surprised to find out it was from really bad acid reflux and COPD. None of us knew it could do that. Her primary explained to her that if you can't get enough air, your chest is GOING to burn. That goes with the territory. Praying for you!

That is frightening! (and I wouldn't want to see the bill either)

Hmm, hope you can narrow some things down and figure out what is causing it.
I've heard gallbladder problems are common with people who lose weight, and that that can feel somewhat like heartburn. But, there are other signs, like color in the whites of your eyes and things.

I had some chest discomfort a few years back, but, they wrote it off as stress (I was doing court stuff with my ex... no denying, I was stressed out.).

I've been having this uncomfortable tightness in my chest and my pulse has been high. The urgent care made me to go the ER to rule out heart attack. My heart is fine, they did every test there is to make sure (I don't want to see the bill I get). So I left knowing my heart is fine, and they do not know why my chest feels like it does. They suggested to stop caffeine for a few days to see if that is why my pulse is high.

Glad to hear everyone's having so much fun with their treadmills! I've had mine for about a year now and have learned all it's oddities to keep it running okay. No dog here to watch me, but, the kids do... youngest scared himself on it by accidentally going too fast and not thinking to hang the safety strap to stop it, so he doesn't use it anymore.

I bounced back upward again, it's really frustrating. My lowest weight was just 1lb from Obese class I (I started at III)... really want to cross that line! Now it's 4lbs away. Like, teasing me, cruelly! lol.

We're expecting sleet on Saturday. But, I'm not worried about the winter weather, since I work from home now. It's been pretty nice so far, but, even nicer not to have that stress of watching out for bad drivers, and those ***holes who only clean the snow and ice from their windows, and leave it on the top and back of the car to fly off on the interstate, scaring the carp out of the other drivers.

Crimson - I hope you are ok?! What happened? Why/how did you end up in the ER?? and is that why you are not allowed caffiene??

How's everyone else doing?

We got a bit more snow last night emoticon hoping the roads won't be too bad. I'm up a bit on the scale but I think it's just my normal weight fluctuations... am hoping to see it go down again before my BLC weigh in on Wednesday...

Good morning everyone. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Mine was busy. And half my day yesterday was spent in the ER. We all know how fun that is.

I really want coffee, I'm sitting here sleepy at work, but not allowed to have caffeine today, where is the fun in that?

Ha Ha - Bella watches me and waits for her turn... sometimes I will turn around while I'm on the treadmill to see this...

You laugh.. but seriously!! My dog walks on the treadmill with no coaxing needed.. I tell her "up on the treadmill" and she gets up and walks to the front of the belt and waits for it to start! No leash needed!!

H, congrats on busting the plateau! We have a treadmill, but it had been having issues. Today, my Dad surprised me by cleaning it up, checking the belt, and replacing the battery for the display! I'm so excited for you! Bear has the same thoughts when it comes to me walking on the treadmill. Lol

It has been a week or so since I last checked in so it is time to say hi again!

I was having trouble waking up in the morning and having useful evenings thanks to one of my meds. My doc okayed me to drop it down by half (maybe to get off it all eventually). My body thinks that it is a bigger deal than I do.

First off I was able to wake up as soon as my alarm went off. Then the next night came--slight bout of insomnia, but nothing like I used to get. Then an unexpected thing happened: my weight started to drop. Two pounds in two days then another one three days after that. Steadily it has continued for a week. Four pounds in one week! In most instances I would say that if I lost that much weight I was getting/am sick.

So I am one pound away from thirty pounds lost--and one pound away from 200 pounds! Whatever I am doing is working, so I will keep at it.

I just bought a used treadmill and got it set up in my house today. I no longer have any excuse not to take a walk at some point every (every-ish) day. Today on my two mile walk the dog just stared at me in loathing, wishing that I was on a walk with him. Poor pup.

That pretty much sums it up! I am having a much better week than last time.

Diana, I love your attitude! My family is pretty close-knit: Mom, Dad, my sis & BIL, cousins, aunts, uncles, and family friends. I'm very blessed that they've all been supportive! My SparkFam has been great, too!

Jessi - I love your approach to your journey -that's what mine is about.. making small changes that I know I can sustain over the long run. I don't want to make drastic changes to my diet or turn into an exercise fiend to reach my goals... my goal is more about making healthIER choices along the way to becoming more fit and healthy. I mean, I do have a number I'm reaching for (180 lbs) but that's so far in the future - I need to find my way there in ways that I can sustain over the long haul - not for the next week or month or 6 months..

Do you have a family? If so, are they supportive of your changes you are making?

Diana, I am going to school to be a teacher. I'm only taking 1 class per semester, so it's not quite as overwhelming. This semester the course was about incorporating more music, art, and movement into the classroom, so a lot of the research doubled as exercise! Lol Howver, next semester I'm taking a reading class, so we'll see.

I've been focusing on making this journey about lifestyle changes, instead of just weight loss, so it's been a little more "life friendly". I make it a point to get my walk in at least MOST days, but I'm learning not to beat myself up if that 20 mins is all I get.

That's great that you're getting extra exercise in during your vacation! I used to weigh daily, but found I got too obsessed with scale #s. I still get on too often, but try to limit tracking my weight to once a week.

I actually have a terrible sweet tooth! If it's sweet + salty, even better! I'm working on moderation again. I don't have to have tons of everything - a taste or 2 should be sufficient. How about you?

Jessi - remind me what you are doing at school.... teacher training? I remember when I was in school the craziness of the end of semester with papers due, group projects (which I always hated), exam... glad you are nearing the end of the craziness and will have a nice break before going back! What helps you stay on track when it's busy??

I'm enjoying having these days off! I have made a point to get on the treadmill daily - and plan to again today and will do over the weekend. I've changed my ticker so it shows me my success so far and I'm excited to see that number grow (vs my weight ticker!). I'm hoping it will help to motivate me a bit more to keep on keeping on! I am back to weighing myself daily as I find seeing the number daily seems to help keep me on track.

How are you all doing? are you noticed any challenges with the holidays coming up? if so, how are you managing them?

Bella, that's so cool that you can take some time off during this busy season! Enjoy your visit with your family!

Miss, I bet she's really gonna love that! I'm sure she's as eager to see the boys as they are to see her!

As for me, I did great on my final project. I've already received my final grade for this class, and I don't start back until January 9th! YAY!

Great that you've got time off! :) and it's so nice your family can get together.

This weekend, we're going over to my Mom's. An early part of her present is mounting her tv on the wall for her, so she can free up some floor space taken up by her tv stand currently.

My boys will be happy, they love seeing her cats.

Good Morning all emoticon

Hope you all are doing well. I am so happy for December and holiday season to be here - only because there is something magical about the lights and the festivities that lifts my spirits a little more. I am done all my shopping so I don't have to worry about the mad crowds at the malls (it's actually the parking lots that I think are worse!). I have some vacation days I had to use up by the end of the year so am off the rest of this week and again next Thursday and Friday. I also have the week between Christmas and New Years off. We won't be going anywhere - just 20 minutes away to stay with my parents. My brother, his wife and their son will be here for the Christmas weekend so my mom is really happy to have us all together. It's been years since she has had both my brother and I home for Christmas. And we both have significant others so it's even more special now.

I'm working at my goals - working through the taming my sweet tooth challenge and started BLC today. I am wanting to jumpstart some weight loss and hoping the challenge will push me in the right direction.

I don't hate shopping, but I certainly don't like the big impatient crowds closer to Christmas day. I've found the shopping and Christmas season overall to be much more enjoyable the earlier I get my shopping done.. and yes, online shopping is fantastic!

No real travel plans. We'll probably drive about two hours to spend Christmas day with family.

I'm with you, I can't go anywhere near a store for the weeks around Christmas. ~shudders~ All online if I do have to shop.

No traveling. My Mom, Sister and BIL come to us for Christmas (since i've got the kids and do all the cooking). We might drive over to Illinois to do some handy work for my Mom as an early present (she's recently widowed and been making lots of changes around her house).

Congrats on not gaining weight while traveling! Great victory!

Holiday shopping for me is not much fun because I do not like large crowds or people pushing and shoving to get things. I buy most of my gifts online nowadays.

Anyone traveling for the holidays?

I hate Christmas shopping, but I guess that it is time to start that whole "fun."

Now that I am home I stepped on the scale. The same as when I left! I didn't gain weight while traveling! That was an amazing discovery as I was eating completely on food that was rich and expected to indulge.

While I was out I barely moved at all, no exercise and barely any walking during the day. I haven't been exercising at all for a while. I have to get up the gumption to either get out and go swimming or get outside. Soon I will have no excuse at all not to exercise thanks to getting a new-to-me treadmill. Now I just have to find a good place for it!

I hope all your holidays are well and that holiday stress is not overwhelming.

Haha, yeah, he resisted the urge to buy electronics, but, this is now his mental green light to start buying christmas presents. ZOMG... I keep seeing the transactions popping up and I'm just trying to ignore them. lol.

... it's a necessary evil, though, I hate shopping and it is nice to have someone to do it on my behalf. He's just not as cheap as I am. lol.

Good Morning!

Heather - glad to hear that hunting was a success and you have food for the freezer! It sounds like good quality time with family too! How's the pooch doing?

Ima - I see you are a member of the tangerine tigers?? I'm a member of the golden phoenix!! I'm looking forward to the BLC starting up. I've not been involved with the BLC for 4 years or so.

Miss - Sounds like your hubby got some good deals and glad he was able to avoid the trap of buying tvs that he doesn't need!! lol

Sarah - great deal on the tree!!

Crimson - what did you do for your week off work?

honeybees - how are you feeling? hopefully recovered from that cold..

As for Black Friday shopping - I've never participated until this year - although I wouldn't say I went crazy or anything. I had my cart on amazon ready and figured if the item were on sale great, if not, I'm still buying them. They were all Christmas gifts. I didn't have the money nor the time to stalk for sales. I'm just about done my shopping - hoping to have it done this weekend. And will start wrapping gifts. I also need to get my Christmas cards ready for mailing out ... will do that this weekend.

Same boat! Work on the computer all day, so I'm not online much in the evenings. Luckily I have a job, that I can "take a break" and hop on here a few times a day.

I went to two stores on Black Friday. I went to Target just before 6 am and it was dead. LOL They had a 5 ft Christmas tree on sale for $30, so I got it for my office area at work. Second store that was a bit more busy was Bath & Body Works. I got some great gifts and their VIP bag. emoticon

Chrimson, I understand that! I'm on the computer a lot, and sometimes the eyes just need a little break. Glad you got what you needed on sale!

Sounds like a great trip, HMATTAX! :)

I don't go shopping on Black Friday. I think my husband hit up Amazon Prime deals a few times. Then yesterday, went to a department store and got loads of clothes for our sons for 50% off.
He was drooling over the tv deals, too, though... lol. We'd waited so long to upgrade our old tv, but, both of our tv's are less than 3 years old, I don't care if bigger ones are now available for less than we paid for them, they're still great tvs.

Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. Sorry I've been quiet all week, I had the week off work so I was spending time not being on a computer. I work on a computer all day for my job, so it's nice to take a break from it now and then.

Did anyone get anything on black Friday? I avoided shopping honestly, but I did go to Target yesterday and we got ourselves a new 55" 4k tv for only $299. It was left over from black Friday.

Want to help me walk 60 miles in November in honor of my mum?

Was up in South Dakota with my grandparents and my dad. Dad and I went hunting (crossbow since I can't pulla regular now) for deer. I could only walk a little because of joint problems, but I finally got a really nice mule deer. Now dad and I are driving back to New Mexico with meat in tow. It should keep both my dad's and my freezer full through next year. Only about 650 miles to go on the road home.

It was interesting traveling while staying on my calorie plan. I did pretty well except for Thanksgiving, which was not that bad really. I am hoping to see progress when I step on the scale at home!

Jessi - glad that your experience of being a student is a better one this time around with less anxiety.

Honeybear - hope you feel better soon. Being sick sucks.

Miss - group assignments were not one of my favourite things either. I always found them to be unequal work.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving - ttyl

Only a few group assignments, thank goodness! I'm not a huge fan of group assignments either. I guess because teachers typically work solo?

Have you had to do many group projects yet? One thing that didn't change was just how much I hated those. lol. At least with insisting my teams use Google Docs I could have actual evidence of just how much each person contributed to our projects when it came time for cross-evaluations.

IMA, I went back to finish my bachelor's in my late 20's. In some ways it was harder, because I just couldn't go all day and night on a mountain dew and chips like I could in my teens and early 20's, but, some stuff was easier because I had years of working to give me perspective I lacked as a youngster. Finished when I was 31 and finally got to make a career change.
SO glad I didn't wait until my kids were grown, like most of my classmates had.

Great that you are going into such a valuable field. I didn't appreciate teachers as much as a youngster, but, as the parent of two academically gifted children with... special challenges, I am amazed by and thankful for the teachers they've had who have worked with us to give our boys the best experience they can while preparing them for the future. They've taught me as much as they've taught my boys.

Ima - emoticon teachers are awesome!! I am happy in my career choice (nursing) and have thought of going back to school for my Masters, but I can't afford it for one and really, I'm not sure what I would want to do for my Masters. I'm not sure how it would help further me in my career at this point. I have registered for a nursing foot care course for Jan - so I'm hoping my week of vacation for that week is approved or else I will need to cancel the course and eat a $35 administration fee.

emoticon emoticon Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US!!

How's everyone doing?

I'm off to get ready for work. TTYL

emoticon I got that run/walk on the treadmill tonight!! feeling good that I got it done. We haven't really set up the schedule. I will just run when I want to run... if it's the same day as him, I'll have to wait till he's done since he usually gets home before me and is on the treadmill right away. It shouldn't be too bad. I prefer to run on the alternate day to him so I don't have to wait which means more time to talk myself out of it...

So it's my weekend and I am up at 4am! ! What the heck!! I woke up and could not sleep! I ended up getting out of bed at 5:30 with hubby who is working today. So I have a list of things I want to get done today... hem 2 pants, start my holiday napkins (sewing them for gifts), go to craft store to pick up more yarn/wool for scarves I'm making for mom & dad for their stockings, pick up material to 'try' making welding hats for hubby, get my walk/run in on treadmill, make lasagna for dinner...

Heather - I'm so happy to hear everything with Link is good news!! whew! Now you guys can go hunting and enjoy the time in the cold outdoors!! Thanks for keeping up updated on the situation!!

Tammy - rest is sometimes a good thing - sometimes it's just needed to re-set us and give us time to catch up and re-focus. Glad you're not sick. What's level 4 exercise mean for you?

Jessi - Sorry to hear your hip has been troubling you emoticon glad you are listening to your body though and giving it a rest when it calls for it. You've got some a great positive outlook and energy emoticon I appreciate reading your posts!

Crimson - glad the walk was so great for you aside from blisters and having ankle wrapped. The rain must have sucked but it was a challenge, you rose to it and you got it done! emoticon

What are you all up to this weekend?

Hello all! Didn't get my walk in today. My hip's been hurting the last few days, so I thought maybe a rest day was in order. My tracker isn't doing a very good job of logging my steps, either. Maybe I'm just treading too lightly?

IIMREITE, sometimes we just need a little rest. :) You'll do great at the next level!

CHRIMSON (please excuse any misspelling), have you tried walking intervals? Like go faster for so far, then a little slower for so far? That might break the plateau! And just look at it this way: You're practicing for when you get to maintenance!

Sorry I've been kind of quiet this week. Been busy at work and trying to get ahead before I'm off for Thanksgiving next week.

Yes I do now how to swim, I just have not been in a pool in a long time. I have a gym membership to 24 hour fitness, they have a lap pool, I just haven't used it. I also haven't been to the gym in a bit because with all the construction on the highway in front of it, it's hard to get in and out of the parking lot.

My 3-day walk was awesome. The last day we did walk 10 miles in the rain. So I had wet feet and socks all afternoon. I walked all but 5 miles. I missed the first 5 miles because I had to go to a med tent and have my blisters attended to and my ankle wrapped. Overall the weather was nice, not too hot. It was really mostly the rain that made the last day long.

I think walking doesn't do as much for me any more because I walk a lot. I'm going to increase to try and hit 6-7 miles a day and see if it helps. I am also working harder on counting those calories. I'm holding at 238ish range and I need to drop more.

Want to help me walk 60 miles in November in honor of my mum?

Finally got the results back from the vet pathology.

All Clear! It was a benign sarcoma. The only treatment he will need is to take any new growing spots taken off when they crop up. My day just got a while lot better!

Well life is still interesting. Dog got his stitches out today and he is really happy to not have the itchies.

Unfortunately the results of the second pathology are still not in. I am so worried! All I can say is that I will be heartbroken if he has to take steroids for whatever he has. I have a long history of prednisone use. It sucks. It also can make anyone, or any dog, really crazy--skittish, angry, sleep troubles. Ug. No steroids please.

Just about to leave for a second hunting trip as the first was a bust. Here is hoping that I get Bambi quickly as it is supposed to incredibly cold for the season by the time I get up north.

Here's to hoping that this week is better than last week!

Catching up...

Heather - I'm so sorry to hear about the stress with Link. I read your blog and can imagine how important he is to you. I myself would be lost without my Bella. She's 9 now; I've had her since she was 2 months old... She helped me out of my shell a bit and got me out moving. She's been such an amazing companion and I'm so grateful to have her. I hope that Link has the milder of the cases and that he responds well to treatment. Now that pet insurance will really kick in an save your finances!! Totally worth it! Good thing you send the biopsy for testing otherwise you wouldn't know his diagnosis which means he wouldn't have the right treatment options offered. Keep us posted on how he's doing. As for your friend... I'm so sorry emoticon Sounds like it was unexpected. Let us know if there's anything we can do for you. Reach out if you need/want someone...we're here for you!

Ima - I no longer have my membership but last year when I had it there was one there. I'm terribly uncoordinated too! I can not participate in aerobics classes for this reason.. I can not move my legs and my arms at the same time. It's been source of entertainment for friends in the past when they've dragged me out to a class...

Crimson - how did the walk go? were you able to find out about swimming near you?

Battle - sounds like you are doing well with your plan. How are things up north?

Morning all!

Hope you all are doing ok. Sorry I've been quiet lately - I haven't been logging in on spark for the past week. Time flies... I didn't realize it had been so long. It's good to get back and catch up now.

I'm doing ok - still moving on the treadmill 3-4x/week. Had a 3 day long weekend due to Remembrance Day and got my walk/run in on Friday and again on Sunday so feeling good about that. I am pushing myself to either complete 45 minutes or 5km... I am still doing shorter (3-5 minute) run intervals and walking on incline.

I need to work on diet and portion control and water intake and... keeping it together!! It's hard to do everything all at once! It seems when I'm doing good with one area, I'm forgetting or ignoring another. I've really focused on maintaining a lifestyle that I can see myself dong longterm. To restrict my diet myself won't work - hasn't in the past and I know for me, it's not realistic which is why I'm stuck where I am now - around 240-243 lbs. I need to make small shifts and changes and then stick with them.

Have you modified your diet? If, so how? What helps you to stick with your diet goals?

Looks like there are quite a few options for treatment. He didn't have the normal skin reaction as the milder form (the skin version normally only deals with exposed skin, not under the fur), Anything from steroids (yugh. I remember me on large doses of corticosteroids) to antibiotics, to supplementing with omega 3s.

The other one can include all those fixes plus mild chemo or higher doses of steroids. Not fun for anyone involved. The second one also tends to shorten the life of the dog by quite a bit. Not something that I want to happen to my baby.

So now I sit and think about the what ifs of the dog and the sadness of my friend's passing.

My condolences on your loss. It's never easy to lose folks we hold dear.

What are the implications of Link having each type of Lupus? Is it treated with medications?

I don't blame you being fed up with this week. I hope the next one's better! emoticon

Got a double punch to the gut in the last three days.

The dog's pathology came back--he has lupus. Not sure how we are going to treat it until next week when we find out if he has the systemic (like humans get) or the other version that only affects the skin.

Then today I found out that a good friend died early this morning from a heart attack.

This week sucks--there are stronger words that I will leave out. I am declaring this week over and done with. I am glad that Link the dog likes pettins, which cheer me up a bit.

Ellipticals are so hit or miss for me. A lot of them have the pedals too far apart. I've never understood this. The ones with the pedal parts on the outside that don't have that problem, though, I generally don't struggle as much with. This could contribute to not being coordinated enough to use them?

REBA - I tried the elliptical, but I'm too uncoordinated LOL

I used to love the rowing machine at the gym, but haven't seen one at the gym in years... Anyone seen any in their gym? Thoughts?

IWP-I also do the elliptical or walking at an incline on the treadmill. I can't do anything that is a high impact exercise so no jumping or running.

Yesterday I took my dog in to the vet to get rid of an obviously painful small lump.

It wasn't a familiar lump for the doc so he took out a little more tissue around it to be safe. Originally I had decided that they didn't need to send it in for pathology, but the doc highly suggest that we get it tested. Now I am worried. I won't get the report until I take him back to get the stitches out. Quite the scar for a little quarter of an inch lump.

Link, the dog, is very displeased about not being allowed to lick the stitches or roam freely in and out of the house. I, on the other hand, am VERY happy that I have pet insurance, since the pathology report right around $200 and the rest of the fees were about $175. Ouch. Oh well, it is paid for (first by me, then by the insurance) so I can't really complain.

Now worry--that I can do. I have ten days to stew. I want to hear basic boring news. Nothing interesting. He is my keeper, my alarm clock, three year old pest. And I love him. Nothing interesting allowed. Life has had enough interesting for a long while.

After a dry summer and micro-monsoon it has finally decided to rain. Actual, somewhat steady, rain. All day, and forecasted to be more of the same through the weekend. I am not sure how much rain we can get before the muddy clay becomes a slippery muddy mess...if it hasn't already. We already have got 2.5 inches--impressive by our standards. More to come.

What the rain means to me is that walking outside is not going to happen, swimming can't happen because they close the pool if there is lightning nearby. I guess I have basic indoor training but I just can't get up the gumption to move from my blankets, slippers, tea, and comfy chair.

And it will be at least through tomorrow before the rain lets up. I guess we need it, but having rain all at once does nothing for keeping the water in the ground, since most of it will just run off. We shall see.

Chrimson - Maybe up the intensity of your walking might help? As far as swimming, check with the local YMCA/YWCA in your area. Mine has a pool, but I'm not sure if they all do.

Reba - Bummer! I would like to run, but I have very bad ankles and knees too, so I stumble more often than not. I might have to look into bicycling again (I have tracking issues, so it's also a struggle for me). What other forms of cardio do you do?

Bella - I'm not a really big morning person, but I've made it a point to get in bed by 10:30pm most nights, and it makes waking up earlier more bearable. Often in the morning I just dance around to music (either on the radio or in my head LOL), but I make it a point to march in place when Bear is using the facilities. LOL I've done as many as 300 steps while waiting for him to find a spot! Also, what about having the BF do his workout in the AM, while you do yours after work?

This week I am working on increasing my step count and being as active as possible throughout the day. I've stayed on track calorie-wise, but I'm looking for really good diabetic-friendly Thanksgiving dessert ideas, if y'all know any. :)

Have a great day!

Bella - I do all my work-outs at night, right before bed. Mornings are so hard for me, I just can't do it. I have never been a morning person, and I probably never will be. It's just not how my body wants to work. That's okay, though - the trick is to find what works for us, right?

Reba - That sounds really frustrating. I've been a stationary bike kind of girl since the snow arrived, but since the issue's in my foot, right now, and ankle, I haven't been able to do as much of it or as intensely as I like. I hate feeling like I'm slacking, and have tried to do extra strength training to make up for the lack. My arms weep bitterly at me over it, but in a good way. I hope you can run again in the future. I know right now I miss it terribly.

So far so good on my goals. I need to adjust them for longer plank times. I'm up over a minute now. Taking it one day a time, as always. Keep moving forward!

May the Force Be With You!
