Yup the weekend is here. I am enjoying a cup of coffee, sitting in the quiet with my laptop and my cat playing on spark people :)

Anyone have fun weekend plans?

Weekend is here. That means no walking. :) Very excited to wake up to a ton of work to do and all the tools I need to do it!

Looks like the weather changes here in Dallas brought with it a cold for me. Not so happy about that.

Made it through Halloween unscathed. Still walking daily and trying to make subtle food changes where I can. Still straight out with stress but doing what I can each day and trying to take time to enjoy life a little too.

Hope everyone is doing ok. :)

Mommy_Rx, it sounds like you have quite a lot on your plate - I don't know how you juggle it all. Spark is a great community, and I hope we can encourage/motivate/support each other along this path to better health and healthier choices :) Welcome to the team!

JACQUIDIXON76- I recommend you post this query to the technical thread on the community forum. They usually answer back pretty quick.

Hi I am Mommy_Rx otherwise known as Sleep Deprived Mother of 3 Chronically Ill children (well they are teens now but still chronically ill). emoticon
When everyone is healthy and I am actually able to sleep I can't. I struggle with emotional eating and choose fast food often cause I am just too exhausted and lazy to cook. The demands of my home are zapping my resources. I drink coffee like it flows from the tap just to keep me going. Drinking water almost hurts it is so foreign to me.

I occasionally have to walk my daughter to school (1 mile) and it is physically challenging for me. I end up red in the face, short on breath and in pain (due to past back injuries).

I know changing my lifestyle has to happen in order for me to continue to provide quality care to my family. I was a successful sparker years ago but I have forgotten how to take care of myself or maybe I just chose to not take care of myself. Perhaps I am looking for pity from above. Like hello I need care too SEE!

For the last 15 years, ER visits, inpatient stays and doctors/specialist appointments have been my life. I always feel on the brink of a melt down. I always feel unprepared, stressed and just maxed out. I can't seem to get ahead of it enough to be one of those prepared for anything types of moms. Instead I am always late on refilling meds, tapping my foot at the pharmacy wondering when my last meal was anxious to get home to clean up the house, administer the meds and deal with the next crisis.

One of the stupidest decisions I ever made was choosing to help care for my mother in laws Mom. She had dementia, diabetes and was overweight. Caring for her was physically and mentally challenging on top of taking care of my 3 ER hopping maniacs. I maxed myself out so bad that I mindlessly ran out onto a wet deck and fell down a flight of wet wooden stairs. My back hasn't been the same since. Thankfully it was a wake up call that made me slow down. I chose to not care for Gramma anymore and I put all specialist and non-essential medical appointments on hold for a year. I am passive aggressive. So when I say I chose what I really meant is I ran away from home caused a huge scene made everyone hate me but got the end result I was looking for but sadly lost my support system in the process.

Sigh I need change. I need a mentor/voice of reason to guide me on my journey. I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help? I am trying to track my fruit and veg intake on the sliders on the main start page where it also has mood and sleep but if I leave this page when I next go on to it, it is reset back to nil again.

Does anyone know how I can stop this happening?

Thanks

What's the difference between an indoor track and a treadmill? I know it sounds like a stupid question emoticon
I've heard good things about Gold's Gym, but don't have one where I live. I think there might be one in Jacksonville, but I'm not driving 30-45 minutes to go to the gym LOL I know me.

Actually that is one of the ones I am looking into, the only issue is that they do not have an indoor track...and the last time I was there they did have a no contract one that you just paid a little more upfront(don't remember the price). I did enjoy the circuit training room and that is a nice draw for me.The other place I am looking at is Gold's Gym that if I go month to month it is $100 up front and $25 a month and has an indoor track and most like the other gym I was signed up with. So just trying to figure out what is most important.

It DOES require a contract, but I recently joined Planet Fitness. I was very impressed by how well maintained everything seems to be, how friendly the staff was, and how many duplicate pieces of equipment they had! PLUS there are massage chairs, and they had several fans above the workout stations, so I didn't feel like I was melting. All in all, for $20/month I felt it was very reasonable. Did I mention that for that $20 you can take a buddy with you any time you want? If you have someone you work out with regularly, you're really only paying $10/month each!

I am checking in, I have been around although busy and haven't had a chance to check in here. Between work and a few other things I feel like I am spinning my wheels although I may see a light at the end of the tunnel! Yay!! I do have to decide about what to do about exercise since I had to leave my old gym due them dropping my discount. I don't want a contract but at the same time not sure how much of it I am going to use. I have 2 in mind but not sure which way I want to go with it.

Hi Shannon - congratulations on making the decision to be healthy. This is only my second week of active participation, but I have already found that as you log in daily, and participate on the message boards as well as all of the other elements of SP, it helps to keep you motivated. I wish you much success on your journey!

Hi everyone! I have committed myself to be being healthy again. I know in order to achieve this, I need to go participate and utilize SP as much as possible. I will be popping in here daily to chat, help motivate and help in anyway I can.

I have not been exercising that much this week. i am fighting a chest cold. i have been tired and i cough at least 2 times every 5 minutes, i can't even get through a 1 mile walk without several coughs. i would like this to clear so i can get back to normal.

Thanks! This does help, actually. I'm fairly used to watches and bracelets, so I thought the bracelet one would be the most comfortable (and someone also told me you could add a silent alarm that was a vibration) but I WOULD prefer one with the display. I had been thinking about ordering it online, but you're right - going to a store in person would probably give me a better idea of what I'm getting.

I'm working hard to reach my goals, so I will very likely be able to pick one up at the end of October! I want one before I start training for the Virtual Turkey Trot.

I don't have the bracelet one, so I can't tell you about it. I have the Fitbit One which has a clip that I can clip to my bra, have it in my pocket or clip it on the pants...I even think you can have in a purse, but I don't always have my purse with me. The only time it is on my wrist is for sleeping and it is wide so it doesn't bother me too much. I do know that the bracelet(Flex) doesn't have the info displayed on it, where as the One does(which is why I went with the One again).

Maybe go to a store and see if they will let you try it on. I imagine if you are use to a watch, the Flex wouldn't be too much of a problem. Although you might want to do some research because I think some people had issues with it.

I hope this helps! emoticon

LVNDRLADY - Do you really like the Fitbit you have? Is it comfortable to wear? I was thinking about getting the bracelet version as one of my weight loss rewards, but I've never worn any wearable fitness thing and have no idea what to expect.

It is a pedometer but the fitbit one also tracks sleep quality(mostly knows when you are restless and up and moving), calories burns, flights of stairs walked up. So a bit more sophisticated than just a pedometer.

Oh cool! Glad you snagged an awesome deal on it ;-) So it's like a pedometer, or is it more sophisticated than that?

Actually it is and I bought another last night which was cheaper than what I found at some of the stores I visited that were sold out. It is like the spark activity tracker but a different company.

Ate out (Taco Bell :-P). I was SUPER surprised to find out that my favorite nachos are actually less calories than some fast food burgers emoticon I could have done better calorie-wise, but I did much better than I anticipated.

I'm right there with you both! The important thing to remember is that it's not an "all or nothing" mentality. If we slip up and eat, as long as we keep plugging along and get right back on track, we are making progress!

I have to track,track,track...and then work out regularly. I struggle with it all because some days I just want to eat and not worry about it all.

Have you tried the Weight Watchers zero point soup? It might be called WW garden veg soup or something like that emoticon It makes a good snack or light lunch.

For me the only way to get my scale to move is to follow a strict low carb diet and work out at least 3 hours a week. Low carb includes fruit.. The thing with me is that I don't like to cook and most quick things have carbs. I've been making sure to keep veggies that I really like and cold cuts around for quick snacks. I also like to snac on sunflower seeds (without the shell)...

Hi IMREITE! I know what you mean...still plugging along but struggling in every sense of the word. I cannot find the right "answer" I know that there is really no answer but I just haven't found what works best for my body. I did lowfat to see if that would jump start things and it didn't. I know that lower carbs is something that a lot of people push toward however I don't eat many carbs as it is. I don't know....it's just that I love food and I just eat too many calories. I think that's what it all boils down to for me. The question is - how do I get more consistent? I do good for awhile and have willpower and then it just all goes away sometimes. emoticon

still here. i have been very active this week. unfortunatly i oversnacked, mindlessy ate junk food on mon and tues. i did well with portion controls for meals. the mindless snacking is what is my problem. so that is going to be my next healthy habit to work on. i found a fitfoods challenge. i will have to review the snacks list and be mindful of hunger vs cravings.

Don't forget to be awesome.

Hello All- still in it to win it over here emoticon

I didn't work out at all last week because I hurt my ankle dancing in my heels LOL but I am back on it this week. I still lost a couple pounds because I'm being strict with my low carb diet...
