Red Rose - Thank you! It's been a fun adventure so far. I've got a ways to go, I've had some slip-ups, but mostly I've been pushing myself forward, and I can really feel the changes. Not see them, so much - I'm no good at noticing the differences in myself - but feel, oh yes.

PatinumZack - Oh my stars, eleven months? Congratulations! That's awesome! I am right with you on the sugar thing. I used to have a terrible sweet tooth and drink soda all the time. I haven't been drinking soda anymore, and I tried some Pepsi a few days ago, and it was undrinkable. I was a bit sad about it, because I so loved Pepsi. I remember loving it. But I don't anymore.

Oh gosh, I love cycling, though.

Congrats to both of you! 11 months tomorrow for me. I've been tracking nearly all food and all workouts although I never count calories burned. It's amazing when you cut back on sugar how sweet everything is very temporarily. I can eat 1/4 bag of Skittles and they are amazing. After that my taste buds get numb to it again and any more would be eating just for the sake of eating.

I've hit a 2 week scale stall because I joined the gym and have been weight training like crazy. I can already see and feel the difference. As a result the scale jumped up 5 pounds. I'm only 0.4 lbs away from when I started so maybe my "official" weight will start going down again soon. I tried the elliptical for the first time yesterday and actually cranked out 30 min without feeling winded. All of that cycling is paying off in more ways than I thought!

Have a great weekend!

120 days! That's fabulous, congrats!

'm on day 4 here, day 13 for my No Sugar Challenge. I'm finally over the "withdrawal flu" and my energy is starting to get back to normal. I'm still learning to cope with cravings, especially when I am stressed out, but it's getting better.

Tomorrow is 120 days! I can hardly believe it. I feel so much different than when I started. It's a slow process, but it is making such a big difference. Keep at it and don't give up!

How is everyone else? Working on tracking your work-outs? Your meals?

Sounds like a solid plan for getting work done and keeping things healthy! We've got one of the old-fashioned push lawnmowers, and have as long as I can remember. Every few years we get the blades sharpened, but it's a really basic little thing. No motor or anything. Makes me glad we only have one acre though! I can't imagine trying to mow something larger by hand. I would probably expire. It is so nice outside though! It's like summer settled into Alaska early, bringing with it green grass and clear skies and so on. I want desperately to transition to biking instead of stationary bike as the weather improves.

Lately I've been struggling with my meal plans. It's been two or three weeks since I've gotten to go shopping, so I am essentially out of healthy options. Today was PB&J (on wheat) for lunch, and a thawed (previously frozen) Costco muffin (did you know they have 650ish calories each? I had no idea!). I'm trying to just stay in my calorie range and not beat myself up about not having access to better food, because it's outside of my control right now, but it's incredibly discouraging.

I'm going to Strava my lawn mowing one day just to see how far I walk. It feels the same as three miles. Got a lousy $80 for my $2000 riding mower because the transmission is toast. The good news is that I actually enjoy it for the most part. I'm glad I've built up enough base fitness to tackle simple chores again. Plus, my trusty 100 oz Camelbak makes sure I have ice water at the ready at all times!

I went for the 40 miles but when I finished Strava said it was only 38! Doh! Oh well, close enough. Plus I don't feel like crying in the corner so it's a big win!!

Nice to see more voices join the conversation! I just hit over 100 days yesterday.

I am so shy that going to a gym would terrify me, even if I could afford it. Instead, I have weights at home and a stationary bike. I work out by myself. I don't mind getting sweaty and gross where nobody can see, and where it doesn't matter what I wear. Not that I don't dress up to work out - I love my active wear. It's one of the few things I don't mind shopping for.

My cardio tonight is going to be done late, probably after 8:30. An hour on the stationary bike. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Welcome Jean15Paul! You are on the right path for sure. I avoided exercise for the first few months so I wouldn't burn out. Still lost 50 pounds. I love it now though and look forward to every opportunity, most of the time ;) Thanks for the confirmation!

Hi everybody, I'm new here and jumping in in the middle of the conversations so I hope I didn't miss anything important.

Don't worry about it PlatinumZack. Everyone needs a break sometimes. You'll get back to it. Remember it's not about being perfect, just keep making progress.

I empathize with the ladies about buying clothes. Guys close are relatively easy in comparison.

So I've only been at this about a week. So far I've been focusing on eating healthy and tracking calories. (No workout yet.) But I see progress. I've lost a couple pounds. I just need to figure out how to fit workouts into my schedule.

Just an update, I didn't ride that 40 miles. In fact, I didn't feel like riding at all during the week. I got in 46 miles for the week which is the least I've done in 3 months. Sure, I pushed the lawnmower around a few hours but I think I just needed a break. Once the rain clears out it's time to start ramping up again. I'm ready to get back to it!

Yogi, $50 a month seems pretty high to me, but if you can swing it and take full advantage of it do what works. In the end that's a small price to pay IF you use it. I was paying much much more just in junk food and beer ;b

Good Luck Plat

well I have been doing a lot of thinking and I and a member of one gym I don't go to only once a wk for my personal trainer and I take my client to his gym twice a wk and know the people there and talk to them often. I can pay an extra $50 a month and get 3 season a wk vs one season a wk. The extra $50 gets me the same take measurements and that stuff but he does before and after pics plus when to school for nutrition as well. the owner/trainer is also somewhat easy on the eyes which kinda helps lol. I think I will be getting the better deal switching if u ask me. The only problem is I need to wait til Aug when my contract is up because I can't and I have tried to get out of it. What is everyone thoughts?

I've been riding my bike like a mad man all year. Last time I rode 40 miles it was a bad ending. It took me an hour before I could stand up without passing out. That was over a month ago and I'm going for it again tomorrow. Wish me luck!!

Shopping was pretty much a disaster. I didn't get any pants. I have one pair currently that fits me at all. But! I did get to run around a mall with friends for a while, so there is that. It was hours of walking, all said and done, for the day.

I'm so glad Torrid's fashion is being kind to you! I have always wanted to love them, but I've got a short torso (being all of very short) and I am exceedingly top-heavy, and that hasn't tended to mesh well. Skirts and dresses never fall at the right place, sleeves are too long, so on and so forth. I envy people who can rock their clothes, so much, because there are things that I have fallen so madly in love with there, only to have not fit. Petite girl problem, wherein petite = short as heck.

I've been getting clothes from Target lately, and they have the tiniest arm holes. I do not understand how they expect people to have arms that thin. I'm starting to see the point in investing in good active wear, the more active I am. I feel a lot more motivated when I dress up to work out in comfortable, supportive work-out clothes. It makes it more of an even than a hassle, I guess.

I'm not a huge fan of shopping for clothes either, but sometimes we just need to. I have found some amazing clothes that are more flattering on me and I like lately at Torrid though. I think I have a new favorite store.

Happy Friday! I hope this weekend is easy and calm for everyone. I'm *dun dun dun* going shopping this weekend. I need another pair of slacks. It's never going to be my favorite thing, but not having to go to a specialty store to get pants is pretty nice.

I'm starting to consider planting a garden this summer - how cool would it be to eat food that I grew? It would be easier to know that it was grown healthily, and would probably compliment the backyard chicken coop quite well. Also, the chickens would love the less than perfect (IE slug-infested, etc.) off-casts.

It feels like the school year is narrowing to an end, and summer is looming heavily even though it is just spring.

I'm trying to just focus on how I feel. I feel a lot better than I have, more active and energetic, and I think that's the important thing. I can do more, achieve more, and that is one of the best feelings in the world. I am so excited for this summer.

I'm so glad I found SparkPeople, and that I'm not in this all alone.

I'm guessing muscle then. Instead of using the scale to determine success, how about how you feel and how your clothes fit? Sometimes a scale is our worst enemy.

I am logging everything I eat and drink - I've been water-only for the past 80 days, so that's easy. Every once in a blue moon I'll get Starbucks, but I always log it when I do. I did recently move up a weight size for my arm work-outs. I was using 2-pound weights and I shifted up to 5. I've also been hardcore pushing my core work-outs. I am going to quietly hope it's just muscle build-up, and the calorie estimations they give me here aren't somehow wrong. I'm short, but they take that in to account, and I did put my activity level at low/sedentary levels, so I can't imagine they're suggesting too many to me.

Are you logging everything you eat and drink? I know for me, I was forgetting to log what I was drinking and I was drinking a lot of calories.
Also if you are working out a lot, you might not see as much change because you are building muscle but not necessarily yet losing the fat. As the muscle starts to burn more calories, the fat around it will start to go away.

emoticon My motto written on my mirror so I see it every day is "These are your first steps." I'm not sure how helpful that is to people who aren't massive Star Wars nerds, but that's mine. Do you have one, yet? A mantra/motto/whatever?

This week - spring break, for me - I've sort of sucked it up. I'm down another pound as of my weigh-in yesterday, It's taken three weeks to lose it. I've been really active, too, so I'm a bit discouraged by how little I've lost. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Probably too much building muscle. I guess that's okay, if I think about it like that. I need muscle. I didn't really have much muscle mass at the start of this adventure.

Next week will be better.

Just take each day one at a time. If you sucked yesterday, you can still rock it today. I gave myself permission to screw up, and I've had a lot more success since then. Stopped beating myself up for failures and just accepted that sometimes, you eat the jelly doughnut.

I remember feeling that way a lot when I first started the program. I'm at day... 76? 77? And I feel a lot perkier, but for the first 20 or 30 days I felt like the energy-drained remnants of a vampire snack. I suspect I wasn't actually getting enough calories.

I'm doing better on my step goals this week, but still not quite where I want to be. The lack of energy and constant sleepiness this week isn't helping.

Today I am going to make awesome choices. I hope the rest of you are, too. It's such a stunning day here - it was in the 50s, yesterday, and today is looking to be about the same. Makes me really happy to be on spring break.

I ran around yesterday playing fetch with the dogs and ambling about the yard. Somehow managed to wrench my knee at some point, and it's a bit sore today. I'm considering this a direct sign from Mother Nature: focus on your core today, BattleofEndor! It's a much needed push.

Hope your work-outs and fooding go well today! I know weekends can be hard.

OMG I love the rain too especially when I don't have to work. Its suppose to rain by me tomorrow and I hope it does. I am a morning person unless I am sick. I normally wake up between 6:30-7 even on weekends and I just go right back to bed. I do go to bed early however since I need to be at work by 7:45. Marco (hubby) on the other hand I have to wake him up at least a good 30-45 min before he really needs to get up. He hates getting out of bed but then again who doesn't.

I envy u that your bra size went down. I also have a nice size chest and although losing weight the chest area still seems to be on the larger size. My waist however has gone down a lot. I also went from an 18/20 to a 14/16 in pants. My yoga pants don't even fit well anymore but I'm not ready to replace them just yet.

What's that saying, it takes all types?

I bought a pair of new pants yesterday - size 16 - and a new bra (40F). I hadn't realized how many INCHES I'd lost until I went shopping. I'm not in regular sizing yet, and the scale isn't really tipping much, but I feel really good about the victories I've had, right now.

I'm excited to see where my future leads.

If they tried to make me wake up at 5:30 a.m., I would probably die. I don't know why, but even when I am flat-up exhausted, my body will refuse to sleep until around 11:00 p.m. at the earliest. I worked a job where I was supposed to be there at 6:30 a.m. every day, and it was the roughest three months of my life. I was exhausted all the time but sleep refused to come at night. I never napped during the day, and I don't drink caffeine. I tried every trick in the book for sleeping on time. It just didn't happen.

I love the rain - I have rain envy. We don't have any precipitation of any kind - not even snow - and it's making me feel somewhat dehydrated, just on a mental level.

I've been slacking on my core, again. It's my biggest weakness. Core, and leg flexibility. I know this, and I need to just push myself to work on those things, but running/stationary bike is just a lot more fun.

May the Force Be With You!

Tomorrow is going to be a looong, early day - not sure when I"m going to have time to sneak cardio in. Maybe late, like 8:00 p.m. late, but that's cool - I neeeed it. It's probably my favorite part of the day, right now.

I somehow ended up with back-to-back scheduling all day. I'm not sure how I'm going to find time for lunch. Breakfast, though, is going to be oatmeal - because I know it can fit in my bag and I can microwave it at work if I need to. I have natural peanut butter at work, too, so I'm covered even if lunch ends up being a few scoops of peanut butter on the run. Thinking out loud to you guys so I have some accountability - I will not skip meals because I think it's easier, and then pig out later to make up for it! That way lays madness.

Sorry to hear about the tummy issues, Safire! I hope the work-out went well!

May the Force Be With You!

Way to go on the early workout!

I don't workout in the morning either. I will stretch in the morning but not workout.

I'm doing ok today, I had some major tummy issues earlier and it wiped me out. Seems like that always happens when I first try to lose weight. But a nap was just the ticket after all that. I feel GOOD right now.

Going to do a short workout this afternoon.

I cannot imagine getting up at 6:00 a.m. to work out. Hats off to you on your awesomeness! Seriously, that's dedication.

I'm so not a morning person, but I am feeling really good with my work-outs. I'm going to be away from home during Spring Break - house sitting for a friend - and away from our home gym. My siblings will likely change allll the settings I've adjusted while I'm gone, but! the place I house sit has room for jump rope, so it's not a bad trade-off. I'm looking forward to mixing up my routine a little more, because it's a very different property, and they have a ton of work-out tapes of their own.

Keep on keeping on, as they say!

Today is off to a stunning start - the mountains are really visible. Makes me feel like any day now I'll be able to start running outside, instead of inside, for the year. That whole ice and snow and moose thing keeps me in most of the winter, but as soon as spring hits, I take any excuse to be outside.

Monday is the perfect day to get back to being serious about my work-out and diet. Weekends are hard. Monday to Friday, though, I know I can handle.

We've got this. Be awesome!

Hi everyone! I'm new here but hopefully will get to know you all pretty quickly. I am looking for some easy lunch ideas. That is the meal that I struggle the most with and have been eating a lot of the same things every day. Right now it usually consists of a turkey sandwich, cottage cheese and yogurt and a banana. It gets boring eating the same thing every day but I don't want to spend too much time cooking because I have an active toddler who gets into everything so he keeps me pretty busy during the day. Any suggestions? Is there a topic here where you all post what you've eaten?

Our lives can change with every breath we take.

I'm really excited - I updated my profile picture on social media because I'd lost so many inches, and people have been really surprised and kind about it. I am feeling really great, even though I have just started (62? days) this journey. I can't wait to see where I am in another two months. Keep with it. It's worth it.

Thanks Chris! It would be great if we could motivate each other. This go around I an trying to be more active on the Spark Forms, make some friends and stay committed to getting on SP which helps me make better choices.

Battleofendor We can do this! It is great that you are staying in both your calorie range and workouts. ANY day you do something for your health is a good day. I am struggling to be consistent. I workout and eat work out for two days, then I am sore and take the day off of working out, then the next thing I know I didn't eat great either! But it's a good day to start all over again!

I am back on SP! The sad part is that I had to change from trying to lose 25-50lbs I am up to 50-100. But that's alright. I joined a challenge (and did the first work out today), and of course I joined this team. I love SP because the people inspire me.
Is anyone else doing any of the challenges?

I have been slacking on veggies, myself. If you hadn't mentioned it, I probably wouldn't have realized it, either. I'm going to make an effort to step up my veggie game. And to push myself harder with my core work-out.

The good thing is, this is a long-term thing. If we slip up, we can fix it and move forward. What matters is believing you can do it and not giving up. Correcting ourselves when we slip. Sticking with it.

One day at a time, right?

I can't believe I've been at this 52 days! I feel like a lot has changed, in that time. I no longer dread working out. I drink my water gratefully. I'm more adventurous with foods - especially veggies. I hope everyone else's progress is trucking along, too. It's a slow process, and gaining a lot of weight when I first started - muscle/water/etc., I know - was discouraging, but I"m glad I stuck with it. In the long run, it's making a difference.

We're half-way through February and I'm not making as much progress as I'd like. I feel like I have gotten complacent, recently, and I need to nudge myself into motion again. I'm trying to take things one day at a time, one extra push-up, one extra lunge, one step further.

I hope everyone else is still going strong.

May the Force Be With You!

2. Is there a gym near your work you can hit before you commute home?

1. I like things like bananas. They're easy to grab and go, and it's a banana. Celery with peanut butter is an easy one to have on hand, too, and requires very little prep. It all really depends on what you like. Taste is so, so subjective. My sister buys pretzels, and those are her go-to snack, or chips and salsa, neither of which sound appealing to me at all.

0. Also, hello! I'm starting today off by filling up my reusable Star Wars waterbottle (16 oz) and hitting 30 minutes on my FitDesk stationary bike. Aiming to average above 15 mph today. Wish me luck!

hi, CAROLINES14.

snacks that taste good is dependent on what you like and it also depends on if you can eat during your commute. do you drive or ride? if your hands are not busy there are more options. i uses to use homemade egg muffins (make a batch on nonwork days, nuke for a minute in the microwave), protein bars, string cheese, i buy snack size bags. i know they cant hold more then 3/4 cup so it makes portion control of some items really easy.

as for workouts - i dont go to the gym. i do workout videos. i have some low impact ones if i am not feeling very ambitous, some 10 minute ones. basically anything that will get me to start.

Don't forget to be awesome.

Hi, I am new to SparkPeople. I am looking for some advice in two specific areas I struggle in:
1. I need some snack food ideas that are fast, and taste good (I am trying to eat 3 small meals a day + 2 smaller snacks)
2. After an hour and a half commute, how do you stay motivated to go to the gym?? When I get home, I am exhausted and starving...
Advice appreciated!

Hey everybody, just dropping in to say Hi!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose hear

Thanks to the people who noticed i was MIA last week.
I moved last week. the movers took apart my exercise room on wednesday last week so i did not get to use it that night. my room is now set up in the new house. i started my new job on monday and i am still working on organizing my new house. it has been a very mentrally, physucallly and emotionally busy time. now stuff is starting to calm a bit for me. my dh is still stressed but it may be 6-8 weeks before he calms down

I have a chest cold and sinus infection. I can't rest and relax and our temps will be 75 plus all week.I enjoy this time of year but hate the sickness that comes along with it. emoticon I'm ready for bed and its only 10am. I have zero motivation. But on a plus side I haven't touched Pepsi in almost 2 weeks!!! emoticon

i gained weight the last few weeks. i reduiced my soda intake over the last few weeks, i was hoping it would result in a lose. but i am not going to quit. i am going to keep at it for at least 2 more weeks to see if that helps reduce the cravings,
i did update my numbers/goals on my home page, the treadmill at work is broken so i am not able to walk as much as i normally do. o i will have to be more dillignet about eating less and exercising with more intensity.

So I'm doing a C25K program (only in my 1st week), and I had a few days in between day 2 and day 3 as I hurt my back at work (day 2 was on Wed, day 3 was the next Mon). Note to self - don't let more than 2 days pass between runs. I felt like all my hard work was erased. Needless to say, I counted day 3 as a warm-up and am redoing it later tonight (in the evening hours when its not like 95 degrees outside).

On the plus side of this story, Monday I was pretty busy in my schedule, and instead of taking my hour break between activities to sit at home and play on the computer, I attempted day 3 of the program. Totally never would have made that decision before. Woot! Something good must be happening in that brain of mine :)

Well. I totally got off my workout train. Again. However I'm back to eating better this week and I've set my re-start date to August 31st for getting back to the gym. Please help hold me accountable!

I'm so glad I'm not alone. I went to the endo doc this morning and he basically tells me that all my issues are due to weight and if I lose weight it should all go away. He also put me on a med for diabetics however I am not diabetic at least not yet. I am going down a road I don't want to. Starting Sunday since I have to work tomorrow my butt will be at the gym. I want to lose 20lbs before my next apt with the endo doc in November.

I'm just as bad as you! The gym is two blocks from where I drop my youngest off to school; literally like 6 blocks from my house. I just need to get in there. I have been exercising though but just cardio at home. While you haven't made it this week, I haven't made it ummm at all and I've been paying for it for like almost two years! Ridiculous. Ok, that's it. I'm GOING to go next week! You are too :) We have the same amount to lose also, love it.

Great job on working with a diabetic diet. That's what I'm trying to avoid personally but it can catch any of us if we don't start on a better path.

emoticon well I have not made it to the gym this week. I have no reason not to go. it is across the street up the block from me. Im just being lazy. I have been tracking everything I eat however which is good. baby steps. I now have my hubby on a strict diet since he is now diabetic and I am doing all the meal planing and prep. Its been very hard but I think we are both getting the swing of things.

So excited to find people that have similar goals to help keep each other motivated. That's why I always end up giving up...lack of motivation and people showing their support. It's hard to change your lifestyle, even if you know it's for the better.

Thank you, 94Transam! So, it is okay, then, to eat those calories...it won't keep me from my weight loss goals?

The initial calorie count they give is for a daily non fitness day. Your BMR (basic metabolic rate) burns calories whether your moving or not. Your body needs more fuel if you're working out, so its normal that the calories will adjust according to your activity.

Hi, everyone. Just a question. When I exercise, I notice that calories are added to my daily calories for what I can eat. Isn't it counterproductive to eat back the calories I burned exercising?

Hi folks, I am new to SparkPeople and finding it helpful. Spending a lot of time thinking about food! Not all bad, but it is a little tiring.

I have a chronic pain condition and my weight was starting to seriously threaten my ability to manage my health, such as it is. So my arthritic dog and I are losing weight and adding more activity.

Also means I can't use food as a way to cheer myself up. Playing with dogs and singing still work though. And knitting keeps me on an even keel.

I may pop in and out of team so if I miss something and look clueless, please be kind and let me know:) With CRPS, some days are better than others so I try to join in while I can.

I am currently exploring loving-kindness meditation and trying to shift my existence towards one of well-wishing towards every person. It sounded pretty goofy when I first heard of it, but it is starting to feel more like a worthwhile challenge. Anyone else working on that?
