Hey, I say count your weigh in as a Victory! At least it didn't go up 10pounds right?! I take my positive notes where I can get them. I haven't eaten my wieght in chocolate cake yet so I'm counting this weekend as a sucess. Welcome to the new member, I am new too. This is a great tool because I want something good to report which keeps me on the right track!

Hey there,
I am new, too, and was glad to find a thread I could post on - just to force myself to check in and write something. So, yes, someone will see this! I just woke up, so don't have anything really to post about for today. But I can say that we went to friend's for dinner last night, typically that would be an excuse to binge. But I introduced both of them to SparkPeople, so we all calculated our calories for the day - which forced us to choose a healthy dinner. We made sure to save room for our typically brownie dessert - and we were all amazed at how SMALL the portions were! We had been eating 4-5 times that size! WOW!

On the down side, I weighed myself this morning, hoping that the scale would have gone done a little more, but it hadn't budged! I am trying not to be too dicouraged (after all I have lost almost 4 pounds this week), but kinda wish it would go down a tenth of a pound or SOMETHING! Aw well, slow and steady, right?

Hi there,
I am new here so not sure if anyone will see this post or not. I am trying to get the hang of this site.
I think it it really important for me anyway to document as fast as I can when I do something right. So I loved this idea. Today I have already logged in what I ate first thing this morning and hope to log in all day everytime I put something in my mouth.
Thanks for starting this post. For me, it is a great tool.
can't wait to get to know all of you on here.

emoticon Coreen! And there are no SMALL victories! A victory is a victory, and we need to celebrate them all! Today I went to Weight Watchers and was down 0.4. A loss is a loss, and I am thrilled with it. Have a healthy day, and keep on moving.

Aw thanks! emoticon

My small victory for today is that I didn't smoother my new and improved, low fat, high fiber pancakes in peanut butter and syrup like I normally would have. Instead I pulled out the sugar free syrup and added fresh blueberries to the top! Yeah me! emoticon

Congratulations!!! I am a firm believer in celebrating the little victories. Those are the only ones I seem to have. I am trying to keep the cut up veggies in the fridge too. Snacking is my Public Enemy #1. Have a great weekend and keep celebrating the small stuff.

Hey fellow sojourners,
Right now I am all about celebrating the small victories - so here are mine for the day!
1 - I went grocery shopping and took my favorite cookbook (The Biggest Loser Cookbook). I purchased some ingredients to try some of the yummy and healthy recipes! I also stocked up on fruits, veggies and lean meats. Since snacking is my downfall, I got some 100 calorie snack packs for those grab and go moments.
2 - After grocery shopping with two cranky kids and getting new tires put on the car, I was hungry!! But, I resisted the urge to go through the Taco Bell drive thru and came home to make a salad and warm up some soup!
3 - I washed, cut, peeled and stored all the produce I brought home so it will be easy to grab a healthy snack.
4 - I tracked my nutrition and posted on here! So far not a bad day. Unfortunately I won't be able to work out today, I had surgery on my nose yesterday and the doctor said not to do anything to get my blood pumping for the next few days. BUMMER!

There ya have it - my small victories, may not seem like much, but I am patting myself on the back anyway!
Liz

CoolSassySista, WantToLoseIt, and SlimByBDay:

You have to Work Hard to keep your body the way you want it OR surgery ... I'd rather work it, work it hard!! And by no means is it going to be fast, fun, or easy!
You know, since I joined SP, I was adjusting and changing the way I think and what I do. That was one of my hardest challenge ... changing my thinking!!!
My typical day now, Monday through Friday, goes like this...
3:30 AM wake up
3:45 AM yoga
4:15 AM shower, dress
4:45 AM get the kids' backpack and lunch together
5:10 AM leave for work
7:30 AM Breakfast
10:30 AM Snack
1:30 PM Lunch
3:45 PM Snack
4:00 PM back home
4:15 PM workout
5:30 PM shower
5:45 PM cook dinner and check homework
7:30 PM Dinner, clean up and crash

Let me tell you, it was not easy trying to figure this out...
I tried different times and activities and figured out when I was hungry and how to make the change happen.

The foods I eat also make an impact ... I track the Calories, Fat, Protein, Carbs, Calcuim, Folic Acid (these happen to be important to me). I eat more Protein rich foods that have less Carbs. I make it a point to buy those only high in Protein content. And as for the kids - I won't deny that I would love to eat the junk they do but if I don't buy it then I won't eat it or binge on it!
And besides I want to teach my kids that sure you can have a piece of chocolate and cake but that's not the only thing to eat...We all go out to the pizzaria and have a slice of pizza. I use to eat 3 or 4 slices but now I won't eat more than 2 slices, I get vegetables on my slice and I get full.
I won't deny myself food or feel aweful for eating it ... I read the serving size and the protein and carb count and I think about how much I should have. I'll take half of what I would like. If I am not satified then I take the rest of the half but after that I am happy and content!
And increase cardio!
Hope some of this might help...

Burn the calories!

I as so glad I've found the work out videos on here. too bad it was just yesterday. I really like the 10 min cardio blast. I did it yesterday and today. The extra bonus is that I can do it while my 1 year old is awake!!!!! he laughs at me cause I'm doing what is on the screen but he isn't bothering me.

I'm also trying to figure out how to keep me from being hungry all afternoon. Having more than just a bowl of cereal and fruit for breakfast and a little later seems to be helping. It is the afternoon munchies and after dinner watching my DH and SD having something sweet that really gets to me.

Yea and I've gained a bound back. :(

NROSEBERG99,

The weight tracker is at the bottom of your post, but you need to update your weight under your goals and it will automatically update.

Yeah, I cannot figure out the secret at all. If you like food and socializing, I just don't see how it is possible to get and stay skinny. I am resigning myself slowly that I might not get back to my 20s weight (even if I work out as much as I can).

BTW, I can't figure out how to add the little weight tracker bar at the bottom of the posts. Any advice?

Hi, when I first joined SP, I was 38+. Now that I'm already 40, I will leave this group. I want to thank all who have posted motivational and inspirational suggestions and advise. I enjoyed reading each one of them. I may pop in to see what's new here and if I can apply it to my goals. Thank you all

Yes, weight comes with age - but what is your key to keeping it off? It's hard for me after 2 kids (15 and 10) that love pizza - oh and work, and traveling on the road - I guess I could bring my dumbells with me, or just starve to death - but we can't do that.....what is truly the secret?

I guess the true motto is no pain - no gain!!! or if you are hungry - DON'T EAT!

Yup, weight comes with age. And you think age is a barrier?? If you can have children, the body goes through even more stress!
And all this combined is the triple whammy!

It's a beautiful life!

I will agree I am 35 and it's so hard to lose and keep the weight off. Since my 20's I've increased my cardio triple what I would do and I don't (heck can't) eat sweets like I use to. My boyfried brought me chocolates for V-day and he got his favorite candy because he knew I wouldn't touch it. LOL

Hi everyone. I am new to this group. I joined two weeks ago and was really excited when I lost 4 pounds the first week. Now I weighed myself and I am back to my original weight. I am eating healthier (although still not perfectly) and exercising more than my target. In my 20s, I would've easily dropped 5 pounds by now. Its really frustrating how difficult it is to lose the weight at this stage. I literally feel like I have to fight for every pound. Welcome to the 30s!

Good Morning Team,
Glad to hear we are all staying active! I got in a 30 min walk this AM, and will walk for lunch. Have PT after work, so not sure what I will get done after that. Have a healthy day, and keep moving.

I can't run anymore because of bad knees, but when I was in track in middle school I learned to eat a high potassium/protein snack after I ran to keep my body from crashing out after all the exercise. Helps you absorb the water after any strenuous exercise and gets rid of the ache and pains for the next day. Good luck with all the running!

IBU, I just ran a 2 mi. race this weekend! I could use some suggestions too, but here's my 2 cents worth. Running/jogging for me is all about rhythm. It get into a rhythm and then I adjust my breathing to coincide with that rhythm...like two beats (and footsteps) in and two beats out. For whatever reason, it works for me. If I focus on the rhythm and my breathing, then the miles pass before I know it! Best of luck to you and let me know how it goes!

Hi.. I plan to enter a 3.8km run for women next month. Any suggestions as how I can keep running without stopping? Yesterday I did light jogging for about 15 mins without stopping; I don't know how far I've jogged, though. Total walking and light jogging was 120mins yeaterday. Any energy food to take before the run?

Hey there team! It's been a while so I thought I would check in. Always nice to read what others are doing to stay motivated/active. I've been working the tedious treadmill and hoping to gain the endurance to enter some runs this summer. Anyone else running at all? Any thoughts about the best in running wear? I'm hoping to use new workout wardrobe as a motivator. :)

Good Afternoon Team,
Glad you all seemed to do well for Valentine's Day! Hubby and I don't have any kids for the weekend (MIL) so we are having a lazy day today. I should go figure out what we are going to eat tonight.

Don't give up! Don't let the 150 calories get to you. Just throw in an extra workout or just decrease your calories for the next day. I know how it feels when you feel disappointed with yourself, especially when you want something so badly. Beating yourself up makes it worse. I know, I've been there. Just remember no one is perfect. Believe in yourself: you can do this!

Hi everyone,
Happy V-Day! "Holidays" have always been tempting for me in the past (any excuse to eat). Today, I did better than I did a year ago. I had 15 Hershey Kisses. I did go over my calorie count, which I'm not thrilled about, but it could have been much worse! Tomorrow is a new day.
Sounds like everyone is doing really well. Keep up the good work!

I hope you all stay strong and don't let the chocolate over come you! I went to WW this morning and was down 2.2 for the last 2 weeks emoticon I was a bit shocked I lost that much, but will take it. I hope this has given me the push I need to stay on track this week! I hope you all have a healthy day, and keep moving.

Good Morning...
YES, YES, It's me the woman who has been MIA. Basketball started in January for my 3 kiddos, which has monopolized my time. I'm struggling trying to fit in my workouts. I'm so sleepy. Only 3 more weeks left~ then my routine can get back to normal.

I hope everyone is rocking it!!

Good Morning! I am proud of myself!! Yesterday I had a calorie laden lunch, but I held back on dinner and managed to come close to my calories, I was only over by 100. Since this was my first week I'm not going to beat myself up over it, I just have to buckle down next week. I've managed to work out everyday this week so far, I have a training appointment scheduled for today :o)

A much better day today. I sacked out last night at like 10:30 and the baby didn't wake up till 6 so I am well rested. I walked to the park with my son this morning and went Ice skating this afternoon with my step-daughter. She actually got off the ice before I did. LOL

Hi everyone,
This week has been a okay week. I should call it a great week, but it's not so great. TOM is in town this week and we all know what that means. Water weight gain from hell.. Sorry Fellas if you don't know what I'm talking about. Everything is going just fine and fair. I did another HIIT program the other day, and every part of me is hurting. Didn't gain water weight madness yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I'm just doing my best. I wish you all the best of luck on your weight loss journey. Keep up the good work. I know I will.

Hi all!

Just wanted to say that I was feeling like a bum this morning and was justifying all the reasons to skip the gym today. I worked my butt off (I hope literally) this past week. I leave this afternoon for NYC. I go up once a month for this integrative therapies program I am in. It's Yoga based so last month, I did Yoga for 8 hours a day for 3 days. It was exhausting, but awesome. So that was my biggest excuse this morning for skipping the gym. However, after reading the different posts on here from you guys, I am now headed to the gym. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Ugh!! I've fallen off the wagon today. Or at least I feel that way. I feel like I've been snacking all day. I do that when I'm really tired. I just put in my food for the day (actual and planned) and I'm over by like 150 calories.

At least I managed to get some labor in today. emoticon

Good Morning All,
I am glad you are all touching base here. I did get in my walk yesterday 40 min and did 200 crunches today while watching the end of the Closer. YMYSELF I hope you feel better soon. There is nothing worse then trying to work out when you don't feel well. Keep up the good work all, and have a healthy day. Don't forget to keep moving.

Keep up the exercise!!

Hello everyone! I did not want to go to the gym today, I am still fighting off a cold but I feel better. I am really, really glad I went, I managed to do cardio intervals for 30 minutes (I've worked up to sprinting at 6.6 on the treadmill for 2 minutes, super excited about that) and trained with my trainer for 30 minutes. I'm tired but it is a good tired. I just have to keep this motivation up!!

I think this is a great idea. I need daily accountability! I'm new to SparkPeople, so this will be helpful to me.
I just got an hour walk in. I almost didn't do it - so glad that I did.
I really have to watch my eating. It's one of those days...I feel like I could mess up. So far, so good, though. Thank the Lord!
Looks like you all are doing great. You're all good encouragement!

I need all the motivation and accountability that I can get. :) This is a great topic.

Since you didn't get your cardio in and haven't been able to get it in, why don't you try to add some while you are walking? You could do walking lunges for 1/4 lap or something like that. Or maybe walk with some light weights in your hands and do bicep curls for some of the time. Since you have a walking partner, while you are using the weights she could be doing the walking lunges. Or even take a pause from walking to do some push-ups/sit-ups/squats. It'll keep your heart rate up too. Just an idea.

Good luck!!

YMYSELF,
Thank you so much for the ideas. We are going to increase our walk today, and try and increase the speed too! I am just feeling sorry for me today, and I know I wont give up. Thanks again for the encouragement.
SNAPPYG,
Thank you too for the encouragement. I have planned on doing Strength training in the AM, but have not done it yet this week. I WILL do it tomorrow! Thanks again for the encouragement.
FIREBALL1969,
Way to go for being so close to your goal. Great work out yesterday. Keep it up, and you will be at your goal in no time.

Just learning the "Spark way" I have 13 pounds to goal with weigh in tonight.

I expect to weigh in with a maintain this week.

Had a great workout last night with 4 miles of walking & 30 minutes of Boot camp interval training.

I hope to make lots of friends here that will hold me accountable and help me to "finish Strong"

Have a great day- Rhonda

Excellent idea Sandra! It's always good to toot your own horn or let others know when you need help.

YMYSELF has some excellent ideas to get yourself rocking again. Don't give up on what you've worked so hard for! Maybe try adding in some strength training too if you're not already doing that. It will make a world of difference, I promise! It does sound like your body has settled into your current routine and it needs a change-up to kick start the weight loss again.

Hi Sandra!
I think a general discussion thread is a great idea!
Thanks for creating one!

You can't slip back to those old ways! You've come too far! You've made Awesome progress!
You ONLY have a bit more to reach your goal! YOU can do it!
Instead of shortening your walk today - why don't you increase it? It'll help you re-focus on your goal and increase the calorie burn and you will continue with your goal!
I had a 3 month plateau and I finally broke out of it! Increase the speed, the resistance, the time ... re-look at your logs and focus!!!
This is only the beginning of Feb! Spring is coming!
Come on, you can do it! emoticon

Burn the calories!

Good Morning 30 somethings,
I thought we could start a new post to just check in daily and see how we were all doing. So here we go.
I am Sandra and I feel like I am slipping back into my bad ways. I have been fighting with these last 10 to 12 lbs for months and months now. I am so ready to be at goal, but have lost me steam to get me there. I will do my walk this afternoon with my walking buddy, and I asked her if we could not do a certain amount of laps, but just walk for 40 unless we were moving slow, and then do how ever long to get in 14 laps. I hope you all have a healthy day, and don't forget to keep moving!
