Hi guys! Checking in for today. My goal is to only eat fruits or veggies as study snacks today (finals time here). Have a good one, and rock on!

love smoothies :) make sure your not wrecking the healthiness of it by adding in a lot of added sugars try to include a serving of veggies along with your fruit and stay away from juice!

I usually follow this pattern 1 c ice half banana 1 serving of veggies (typically spinach) 1/2 c one other fruit (usually berries of some kind or half an orange) and then I either add water or unsweeted almond milk to thin if it needs it

Oh man...I'm glad I was diligent in exercising and tracking last week, because this week is really testing my limits. Yesterday, I ended up having a slightly too large breakfast out, but at least it was a healthy (if higher calorie) omelet. I never got to workout, but I walked around the building for a bit during my lunch hour, too. Then, I didn't even check in here...I just spun the wheel on the homepage, hehe. I also ate reasonably for the rest of the day. Today, my breakfast came from Starbucks.

I went over my caffeine limit, too, from two late nights in a row. It's becoming more and more obvious that the thing that will trigger bad food choices is sudden stress regarding work. Yeesh. Well, at least summer will be here soon, and I can hire a couple interns to help out around here!

@KAW0829 - Welcome back! emoticon

@EBERKSHIRE86 - Oooh...the slow cooker thing is a REALLY good idea for me. I might have to get the hubby to haul it out (hurt shoulder still have issues moving heavy things). I really like some of the pulled pork pulled chicken recipes I've found on Sparkpeople and between that and the rice cooker/steamer I would have to do NOTHING for dinner. Just serve up. Thank you so much!

Quick daily check in while it's still Tuesday: I got exercise in despite TotM cramps. I'm REALLY proud of myself for that. I couldn't handle anything high impact, so I did an arm strength circuit with modified moves I learned from physical therapy and also a 30 minute Walk Away the Pounds video. Unfortunately, I had more coffee today than I wanted...but I blame my nieces for that.

Everyone here with kids? Seriously...I freaking admire you. I love my nieces when I'm babysitting, but I don't know how you do it.

I've actually been a part of this group for a very long time however have not been on sparkpeople in over a year. I graduated, got married, had a baby in Oct so Its definately time to get back in shape. I had been trying to work out and eat right on my own but I find I do much netter when I use the site to keep track of what I'm doing. I look forward to losing at least 20 lbs but I'd like to lose 40 even 50 if possible. I started at 194 lbs in March and am currently 188. So hello everyone and good luck to you all. We are our own worst critics and WE CAN DO IT!!

CHUBBYFENCER- great job getting fitness in :) I struggle with weekends as well I find that when I plan my meals for the weekend ahead of time I do much better otherwise I tend to graze throughout the day but if I throw something in the crockpot in the morning and know that's what we're having for dinner I do much better and I plan my lunches as well. You'll figure it out your doing great!

KIKI_LALA-welcome and great job T25 is a great program I'm sure you'll get some great results!

SIgh. And I didn't check in this weekend. Again!

Bright side? I totally kicked my workout's bottom on Friday, and worked out on Saturday for the first time in months! MONTHS! Sunday, I actually wasn't feeling well, and today was supposed to be a rest day...so I swapped my routine and rested yesterday and worked out today. I ate healthy-ish on Sunday but things were in MUCH larger portions than they should have been.

This week, I have to develop a plan for controlling myself on the weekends. This is also the week I cut back my caffeine/latte consumption. It's 3PM where I am, and so far, I have only had a small latte. I'm allowing myself 3 espressos this week (down from 8).

I'm also good on the sodium front! I got rid of my crackers and other snacks that were high in it, and will air pop all my popcorn this week (seriously...popcorn is a godsend as far as low calorie snacks go). I bought oranges for snacks in place of cheese things, too. The only thing I kept were my wraps and low sodium deli meat. I've really been enjoying mustard in place of heavy dressings and cheese!

@LILYADELYNE - Nice work cutting back on soda and getting to the gym! During my first two weeks, I followed the "Fast Start" thing like it was my religion - I didn't change much other than track calories and drink more water instead of coffee. I know it sounds empty to hear it on a website but if you stick with these small changes at a time, you'll see that months from now, you'll be really proud of yourself for laying such a good foundation of healthy habits!

@STARSLOBBER - Oh girl - you are going to be my inspiration for the weekend! I'm so sore, but I definitely could use the reminder that I can always do a brisk walk. And yes - tortillas are serious sodium fiends! I managed to make the switch to a brand of flatbread called "Flatout" - in my area, they are always right next to the deli. They're usually ~100 calories each and have less than 230mg sodium per serving. Pretty good! And thank you for the note about keeping potassium up - I use a LOT of bananas and spinach, but I think I'll try to switch to sweet potatoes next week, too, to get a bit more.

Daily check in: Woohoo! I'm getting through the week staying strong! Active rest day was a welcome relief yesterday, but now it's back to work. I might have to check in twice today, though, because I won't have time to exercise until the evening...that's usually one of the best ways for me to justify NOT working out. But if I have to confess my sins to you all later, I'm hoping it will be the push I need in the right direction.

On the coffee/protein smoothie experimentation front: mixing strong coffee with chocolate protein smoothie does NOT a mocha make. UGH.

@CHUBBYFENCER Thanks. I actually strained my inner thigh from the squats I've been doing the past couple days, until it heals I'm doing what I can with just brisk walking, but as soon as that heals I'm going to try jogging more often, it seemed to really boost my weight loss this week and it didn't make me as sore as I thought it would.

I can definitely relate to sodium issues, it is in EVERYTHING, I've been trying to avoid most foods that have more than a couple hundred milligrams of sodium per serving, hardest ones for me to avoid is deli meat and tortillas, I've had trouble finding either with low sodium options, what I've found online isn't available in my area, I try to buy the meat and bake/cook them myself which allows me to add as little to no sodium as I want, but its definitely not as convenient as using deli meat. I discovered recently that the recommended daily amount of potassium is 4700 milligrams, potassium flushes salt from the body and ever since I cut salt and increased potassium I noticed how differently I feel, I don't feel groggy very often anymore unless I eat something with a lot of salt. The main potassium foods I like are potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, beets, beet greens, nonfat yogurt, bananas, tomato paste, tomato puree, various beans, fish, clams, squash, carrot juice, molasses, prunes, papaya, edamame, and cooked spinach.

Hey everyone.. first check in:

So I just recently started going back to the gym and am TOTALLY feeling it. I am pretty sure I over did it but it also feels rewarding to be sore from doing something good to my body. I don't know when I can get back to the gym this week so if anything I won't be able to get back there until Monday since I work all day tomorrow. I may get to borrow the car and go on Sunday since its my day off.

I haven't really adjusted my diet yet, it's just so hard to convince myself that these tasty carbs aren't my friend. I think I'm going to start drinking water at work next week but I've been weening myself off soda while at work (drinking 12 oz of soda instead of 24).

@STARSLOBBER - Good job on the jogging you've done so far! I waited until I was down to 225 lbs before I started jogging and I credit that addition of aerobic exercise of getting me to 215. Obviously, I gained some of that weight back when I stopped, but I intend to take it up again in June! I say if you are mentally ready for it, don't be afraid to try it! If your joints and shins hurt afterwards, substitute other aerobic exercise until they are feeling better and try again. emoticon

Daily check in: I ended up going my calories yesterday. I've been trying to take a realistic look at where to make changes in my diet and what "treats" I want to keep having...in moderation. The biggest culprits causing problems in my diet are lattes and sodium! Since my injury, I've relied on easy to prepare food...which meant wraps, cereals, and sandwiches. Bread and deli meat has SO much sodium!

So next week, my goals will be to cut latte-intake by half. It is also to ditch the cereals and sandwiches, but keep the whole wheat wraps. I'll also switch the deli meat to some low sodium options I've seen before. I'm hoping I can build strength back in my shoulder so that by May, I can go back to preparing all my own meat on the grill!

I've been trying to figure out when the right time to start jogging is, even though I've lost 33 pounds I'm still 77 pounds overweight, I have the energy to jog a little bit but am worried of that hurting my joints. Even though I haven't officially started jogging as a routine yet I was stuck at the same weight for about 6 days and tried jogging a little during a walk, I ended up jogged about 20 minutes total in the span of a 1 hour walk, the next day I was down a pound, then another pound two days later. My usual daily routine is low to moderate aerobics and every other day I do light weight lifting and squats. I am tempted to jog again but not sure if I should. I was less sore from jogging than I am from doing squats.

Congratulations @STARSLOBBER! That was, and still mostly is, one of my biggest failings: I'm still building up self control.

I am doing well this week! Everything is being tracked and I'm staying close to, but under, my calorie limit. I'm staying on top of my daily activity, too! My muscles are starting to ache something fierce and I can't wait for tomorrow's day of "active rest" (long walk and relaxed stretching afterwards). I can't believe how much light strength training, even after all my PT, still hurts!

It certainly makes me more determined to get back to where I was, though.

Despite the last few days being an emotional roller coaster I still managed to stay on track, not reach for junk food, and lost a pound. That's a first for me, I guess after following a routine of healthy eating and exercise habits for the last 3 months its easier to resist changing that routine even during a difficult situation.

Daily check in: still here. About to get my sweat on, but don't have much time for a workout longer than 20 minutes. Might try to take a walk with the hubby later tonight just to get some more activity in.

Whoops! I didn't end up checking in this weekend. Boo on me. Work unexpectedly took me out of town and I ended up eating out for most of my meals.

Aside from coffee, I actually did really well, though! I worked hard on maintaining portion sizes and waiting for 40 minutes after I eat to decide if I still feel like I needed a snack...which ended up being either a protein bar or fruit.

The experimentation this week continues on trying to make a decently flavored coffee protein smoothie. I'm going to try adding some strongly brewed instant to my shakes.

It feels weird to be back to what feels like the first two weeks of Sparkpeople after I've already met some progress in weight loss. I am trying not to "rush" back to the exercises I was doing before my 5-month break. Instead, I've just been focusing on being active and tracking all my foods - not worrying about the calorie count, but trying to focus on "fixing" my portion sizes and making healthy food swaps.

Right now, I'm trying to engineer a coffee protein smoothie to replace my much beloved iced lattes.

I didn't check into this board yesterday, but I DID track all my food and get my activity in! Spark Streak maintained!

I've been really sticking to my getting-ready-for-bed routine (bad insomnia issues) the last few days. If I can keep it up, my sleep schedule should normalize again! Extra incentive!

Today, I started the day off right with a stuffed omelet with brown rice, turkey, and kale (this was originally stuffing for bell peppers, but I had a lot left over). Now my activity today will be: clearing dead raspberry bushes. I can feel my back ache already, but I should get my sweat on!

Welcome back girls! Congratulations for your wedding JGRAY007 and for getting under 200. Keep the eyes on what you are eating and make some time to workout, as planning tends to be stressful and easily can put someone out of the wagon.

So I haven't checked in in quite some time either.

I got derailed the past few months and I'm quite determined to not let it happen again. My motivation now is my wedding in August. (yay!) I don't want to be that person who looks back and regrets the way they looked in their wedding photos. I don't want to be self conscious on my big day.
I have managed to lose ten more lbs recently and finally got just under 200!! Hooray! I'm pretty sure that was stress though.
So here's to a new beginning... again. Lets make this a lifestyle change this time, not just a diet!

This is my first check in since...an uncomfortably long time ago.

March was bad. A LOT of grief inducing circumstances that aren't particularly relevant happened and instead of exerting some control over myself and my surroundings, I let it derail me again.

So the plan for April is this: check in to Sparkpeople every day, do something "active" for at least 10 minutes every day, and track my food every day. The reward: a fitbit bracelet if I succeed. If not...well...a bottle of nail polish for every week I finish. Yesterday, I walked a couple miles with the hubby. Today, I did a 25-minute cardio video and a 12 minute lower body strength routine.

I thought it would be a great a idea to write down small weekly challenges that help us to reach our fitness goal. Since is small and weekly it might be easy for us to follow up and keep on track. Who's in??

I created a new topic in Motivation Forum called "Weekly Mini Goal", pass by and comment.

Monday check in emoticon

New week, new opportunity to do it right. On weekend I worked to change my strategy in order to see better results. So far I've doing great with exercises but not eating accordingly, so focus for this week is NUTRITION.

My new strategy include small daily challenges, It is easier to accomplish small goals align with long term goals.

For today, my challenge is to eat on calorie range and day 1 of squat challenge from http://www.fitsugar.com/Printable-Squat-Challenge-31141646.

Does anyone else join me?

Hi Everyone - new to sparkpeople! I've lost about 7 lbs on my own and this weekend managed to get out and be really active (at least by my previous standards). I used to do WW but I'm trying to handle this by myself....I really miss the weekly meetings though so maybe this will help :) Congrats to all of you on how well you've done so far, this is great!

Just started the group today with my friend Creaspann. We have a wedding to get ready for and are ready to start our weight loss journey. I could really use a lot of support to keep me on track so anyone who wants to add me I would really appreciate it. At my age and weight I really need to lose the weight for my confidence and health. So here is to a great start to a new start.

I just started back on sparkpeople and healthy eating and exercise today. I had a baby June 2013 and actually lost weight while pregnant (sick alllll the time) but gained it back after baby was born. First day back at it has gone good so far. Hoping I can stick with it. Hoping to make some friends for motivation.

Slowly starting to add more activity to my life...walked the dogs for 1 hour, took a walk during my lunchbreak for 30 min, and stood at work as much as possible all day!

I went to an information session about medical assisted weight loss, 600 calories per day! HOLY Snickies! Very Low Calorie Diet is extremely scary for someone who used anorexia to loose weight before. Needles to say I will not be using medical assisted weight loss to meet my goals..

This sounds dumb, but for me KNOWING i am a stress eater helps a lot. I read a book that said something to the effect of 'true hunger is gradual; impulse eating isn't'. I think about that often. I am a stress and a boredom eater-- if I feel like I need popcorn I have to stop and think "do i really want that? Or do i THINK i want that?"

So happy to have lost two pounds last week! I have noticed that I stress eat though. I had to take my car into the shop, and came out with a hefty bill... all I wanted to do was eat potato chips.

Any advice from fellow stress eaters?

Monday check in. I'm in day 6 of my Lent challenge: Not sweets for 40-days. Feeling awesome and committed to avoid sweets today (one day at a time). I can do this.
Other thing I have to keep an eyes on is white bread and crackers, I ate them a few times last week and it reflected in the balance. This week is keep on track, my goal is to lose 2 Lbs by Sunday and I'll do it by keep my calories intake in range and working out 45 minutes from Monday to Saturday.

I know I am a little late to post on this, but today is my first day joining a team. I am excited and ready to lose this weight! It has been a struggle for me since I had my miscarriage and no matter what I do I cannot lose this weight. I eat healthy and walk often, but maybe my body needs more of a boost. We will see and hope!

Honestly Ya'll

I'm not doing too well. No matter how I try to watch what I eat the scale continues to go up, up, and up. It's quite disheartening. School work is starting to pile up, around me and all I want to do is stay in bed. But everyday I get up, get dressed and go out and go to school, work, or try to maintain some friendships. I'm exhausted when I wake and even more when I go to bed. I have no energy and have gone back to drinking at times three cups of coffee a day. This all sounds depressing but as I type it rings true in my hear. If ya'll are praying people say a prayer for me and pray for spring to start soon.

yeah it's like Zumba world tour. I like it, and that's saying something because I don't particularly like to dance. lol ( moving your body in a different way feels embarrassing to me). However, I do enjoy it with the shades down and the boyfriend at work. Also the program will give you stars for your progress and it really does help to keep you going. So far I've only been able to do the 20 minute zumba lessons. however if you have a wii I do suggest it emoticon

I didn't know wii had zumba! That's really neat, I've always wanted to try a Zumba class but have been scared away by the intensity of them. This is the third time I'm coming back to Sparkpeople, and this time I really have to slowly ramp up the exercise, because before I just launched into high intensity (for me) and wound up too tired and too unmotivated to continue.

But being here again has made me want to get back into a healthy lifestyle, one that works for me for where I am right now :) slow steps is right!

Small steps is key. When I started I focused just on my food tracking for the first two weeks. Then I slowly incorporated work outs a couple times a week. Now, I go almost every day. It's my favorite part of my day even lol. And now I also push myself a little more every day so I keep challenging myself. There is always rooms for more!

Little steps at a time, after all every step counts. Every pound loss counts. It doesn't happen over night. I'm going to try small steps maybe hit the gym at least once this week, then twice, then three times a week.

I am still learning how to manage this site. I got out of habit using the trackers and stuff but still working out and eating as healthy as I can. Trying to stay motivated but it is so hard to find time for myself! I will get it. I am still on track with my goals and taking it slow. Need to be a little bit better on the steady part. I totally agree. Weight loss is such a mental thing. There are times where I just want to eat everything. Then when I sit back and really think about why I want to eat, I realize that there are times when it's boredom, times when I'm upset, and other times where I'm super stressed at work. When you realize what the reason is behind the wanting to binge out that always helps.

As fat as getting motivated for workouts, I find that setting some goals for the week helps. Like I want to walk X amount of miles this week, or I want to be able to do X amount of time total working out this week. Then every week I re-evaluate what I want to accomplish that week. I also like to make a schedule of what I want to do. That way every week I have to check it off my schedule.

Hope that helps you a little!

trying to infiltrate my binge-ing moments with reason, it really is amazing how much psychology plays into ones weight.

I revamped my goals the other day, just to be honest with myself, and nearly had a heart attack when I couldn't find my friends in the daily check in lol. I've been trying to break some recent bad habits but with school starting back up again it's been quite difficult. I worked out with a friend today and now we're discussing making our once weekly meetings more of a twice weekly meeting just so we can get motivated and hold each other accountable. Working out with another person is just so much more enjoyable----do any of you have tips for either finding a good workout partner or working out at the gym by yourself more enjoyable?
