Hi, my name is Emily.....and I live in the south east side of the U.S. I find it very hard to lose weight when I live in a big city...and also, not all the roads I travel down have sidewalk. I am a cashier for a thrift store and that keeps me on my toes. On other days, I am playing catch-up on house work. Today, I just started adding in a fitness routine before work.
The hardest part about a rotating shift during the week is that I can't exercise at the same time everyday. It's a real stumbling block but I am working on it.
My fiance suggested to me that maybe I should change some of my breakfast options to meats and soups...instead of sugary oatmeal.
I do not believe being active every day is a bad thing. I believe the only way to lose weight is to learn to make healthier meals and keep pushing your body in different ways through exercise.
By the way, I will be turning 29 in a week (yah!)....so, I am quite freaked out about how much I weigh. According to BMI, I need to lose 50 pounds. If anyone has some similar goals or just wants to team up so we can help each other, please email me because I'd love to have an accountability partner.

Here's to us losing weight!

@JAZZYISHERE I can only speak for myself on this, but I tend to have better results or weight loss momentum if I exercise every single day, on rest days I still do at least a 15 minute walk which some call an "active rest" day, even if it's just around my backyard or to a Leslie Sansone video. I think it gives the metabolism a little extra boost if I do something every day. The main reason I actually exercise every day is it helps me stay motivated, for some reason I lose motivation after a day that rest/don't exercise, because the next day when I exercise I feel fatigued.

Thanks guys, sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I got off track for a little bit all things considered. Long story short, it took me about 5-6 weeks to feel comfortable to really exercising again since the surgery, aside from 15 minute walks the first few weeks which I bumped up to 30 minutes since then. I am up to 219 pounds right now, was 10 pounds heavier from the surgery but I lost it as the gas and swelling worked itself out. I've been working out more the past couple weeks, having a little trouble finding that dedication I had last year to stay on a wholesome diet every single day but have found my will power the past few days and I stick to it best as long as I keep counting my calories, and being honest with myself. I have committed to a spin class, today was my first day, I was pouring sweat by the end of class, it was more fun than I expected, quite an endorphin rush afterwards as well, more so than when I do aerobics which is interesting.

And, well done everyone that has been staying on track and focused!

Try switching up your workouts and see if it gives you a little nudge. Might be all you need.

How tall are you? sounds like you may be eating too few calories for the exercise you're doing.

My name is Jael, and lately I've been trapped in a plateau for going on two months. I've been going back and forth between 188 and 192, and I can't seem to get any lower than that. However, I have been sticking to it and I'm just not sure what I have to do to break out of it. I work out pretty hard 4 times per week, and depending on exercise I eat 1200-1600 calories per day.

Finding my new job both great and stressful at the same time, we are a close knit group so whenever someone brings in candy or chocolate they tend to like sharing... I've been testing my will power and it's been pretty difficult, I haven't said no to everything and I hope this hasn't been causing too much a shall in my weight loss efforts. I do walk to and from work but not enough to drastically allow me to eat anything I want. I have found that eating 1,550-1,650 calories per day hasn't been decreasing my weight any considering it tells me that to maintain I'd have to consume 2,050. I put myself in a 400-500 deficit each day without much changes, being around 200 pounds has really been kicking my arse lately.

Hey new to the group, but just needing some accountability as I'm trying to lose 50 lbs by August 31st.

I'm following along to the Blogilates beginners calendar right now and trying to run 3 times a week or more if I can!
I did my pilates tonight but no run today. Although I ran yesterday!

welcome Ericka, congrats on the 3lbs

MALACHAISMAMA- your not undoing all your hard work, you might be putting a small dent in it but really it takes 3500 calories to gain a lb and thats on top of the normal calories your body needs daily to function its highly doubtful that you could ever get that much in one sitting lol if you see your weight go up its probably just from consuming high sodium foods and then retaining water maybe next time try to bring a veggie tray or other healthy snack so you have at least one healthy choice to snack on drink lots of water while your there it will help flush to the sodium and will keep you fuller so your less likely to go way overboard. Small indulgences don't really derail us and its not good to be too restrictive but there are ways to balance them out. Good luck!

Oh boy, as I'm sitting here relaxing with my two little ones I just realized that Saturday nights undo all of the work I've accomplished during the week emoticon . My husband and I host a game night every Saturday and there is only one other person on a weight loss journey, and he is out of town for a month. He also happens to be my accountability buddy and running partner.

Somebody always brings at least one dessert, somebody else always brings not so healthy munchies, we take turns making dinner, and there is always drinking involved. With all of that going on it makes real hard to stay on track and making the right food choices

I was trying some yoga for it, but it just seemed to make it worse. As did my physical therapy. I have to watch with the yoga, too. I notice most things are contraindicated for my migraine condition and for anyone taking blood pressure medications.

Hey Audrey, Aubrey here. Maybe you can do some light yoga to help work out the kinks in your back. Apple has a good yoga app that has short routines for beginners. Just suggesting because it's really helped me out.

Ugh... past 2 days I was so sick and taking care of sick kids. Today my back is killing me and I have some weird charlie horse thing going on. My grandfather and aunt are still sick, so fingers crossed it doesn't come back around.

I definitely know how you feel, and I wish you the speediest of recoveries! Injuries and illnesses are hard because we have no idea why they happen, and they are rarely at any sort of convenient time. I'm in the same boat with you, my friend.

As someone else said, do what you can, as you can. Don't push too hard too soon, take it easy and allow your body to heal. Let me know if you need anything!

The important thing STARSLOBBER is that you had it taken care of. Appendicitis is nothing to fool around with. Don't over do it. Do what you can, as you can. And just just keep a positive attitude!

On New Year's Eve I developed pain in my abdomen, was very sudden and honestly felt like really bad cramps. Early morning New Year's Day it was bad enough that I went to the ER. After hours of blood, urine, and CT scan tests the doctors discovered I had appendicitis. I was able to have an appendectomy within a few hours of diagnosis and thankfully my appendix was removed before rupture. I am on a lot of medication and doctor said it would take about 6 weeks to heal, and to not lift more than 15 pounds during this time. I CAN'T CATCH A BREAK!! I was so set on exercise and building up my endurance, to get back and stay on track to start the new year off strong, only to have this happen. It's going to take me months to get my energy back to where it was just a few days ago. Trying to look on the brightside but its hard at this time, only positive I can see during this situation is that it has physically forced me to eat lightly, the surgery was laparoscopic meaning the filled my abdomen with gas etc but that gas will take a couple weeks to be fully expelled so movement and eating more than small meals is painful. Also helps to count my calories and watch what I eat as to how I feel and recover each day.

So far today I'm being pretty lazy emoticon I'm watching my daughter play Sesame Street games on the Wii. Still trying to wake up. It's been a long couple weeks and I'm pretty wiped out. Also, I'm sore from the squat challenge. I must be getting old because the squats are getting harder than they used to be.

My accomplishments today - Started the 31 day squat challenge, Started the January Jump-start Challenge, and played Just Dance for 10 minutes. I would like to have done more, but I spent about 70% of my day with a baby emoticon latched on to me. Poor teething baby.

I've had a stressful couple of months. I lost 53 pounds as of August, plateaued for a couple months, then some life events dog piled on me and I actually gained 14 pounds back in Oct/Nov/Dec...but, this past week I managed to shift gears on my focus and am getting back on track. I exercised 4 out of 7 days, working on increasing that this week.
It is frustrating how quickly muscle and stamina are lost, when I go more than a few days without exercising I find it very hard to start again, so no more excuses, I need to exercise at least 15 minutes every single day, even if its just a slow stroll.
Ideally, I would like to lose 70 more pounds, get down to 24% BMI, or fit into a size 8, whichever comes first, that is my goal for 2015

Welcome back to the program. I had done the same thing in August.. I was doing so great prior and just completely fell off the wagon and gained more than I had lost. Luckily now I seem to be back on track with exercise, food and water. I'm now almost under what I had lost before (phew lol!)

Just have to start slow and enjoy every minute, day, week and months of the process. Soon you'll see results and enjoy it even more.

I've always wanted to be that slim person, I hate that people still look me up from high school and notice that I'm still fat. Yeah well, soon I won't be anymore!

We'll all get there! :)

Hello,

Today is my first day getting back on track. I have tracked every thing I have eaten today. I went for a 30 minute walk to get my cardio exercise for today for the challange. I feel better. I have a long way to go but I will get there. Slowly.

Something that I keep to myself is myself wanting to be that slim popular person. I have always been kinda popular but I want to be that slim person everyone wants to be. Lame I know but I really want it. That stand-up person in the community, who volunteers, is slim, fights for what they believe in, is diplomatic to the core. Maybe someday I'll get there, maybe...

Skooken- There are TONS of articles here on SP that talk about what you can do. Varying your calories within your range every couple of days is a great place to start. Also mix it up with your workouts. Sometimes it can take 2-4 weeks to break through a plateau but as long as you keep doing everything right you will beat it. Be patient...your body is just freaking out because it's losing weight and it wants to stay the same...LOL!

Exercise 10 more minutes a day, or change your calories a bit, have 2 days at around the same, have another day where you up them a bit. then go back to the lower numbers.. I find this helps with plateaus. Also you have to take in account that (Lady time) you'll definitely feel like you're plateauing, during that time just try not to consume too much salty things, drink plenty of water... and mostly, don't feel down about this! It happens to almost everyone. I had a plateau for two weeks just a month ago!
Just keep pushing on :)

CLARINETGAL05 - Congrats on the 10 pound loss, I bet that feels amazing! :)

April - Wow that's a lot of inches! congrats hun!

I've been MIA for this sparkteam for awhile, getting back into the spark community again and Im loving it.
I've been doing well the past week for the exception of last night ( went out, had a few too many drinks) Today I downed some gatorade and now I'm onto water to detox my body back into normal.
Hope everyone is have a good weekend

I've been M.I.A. from sparkpeople for almost a year. I had been doing well before I left for vacation last month, but I'm seriously struggling since being back home. I remember how helpful this site was for me, and so I hope to get active here again. Today has been going pretty well so far! Wishing everyone here continued success on their weight loss emoticon emoticon

I thought I was doing well nutritionally but my grain counts are too low and I overate on Wednesday.
On the other hand, I learned first-hand that game meats are best cooked using slow wet heat methods. Man, was my rabbit tough!

I have definitely fallen off the wagon the last 3 weeks, it cost me 2lbs... However I am getting back up and busting my buns to hit my September goals. I keep telling myself it doesn't matter how many times I fall as long as I keep getting back up. I feel better than ever am completely motivated and ready to work!

I am also struggling getting started, I have really low will power, although today we went to the Big E (Eastern State Expo-like the state fair for New England area) and we walked all day I did not make the best food choices. I really need to get my butt to the gym and work up the sweat. It's really hard because my fiance is actually trying to gain weight (muscle mass) He's one of the lucky ones, he can eat all day and not gain a pound...we'll see how this goes. Hey team

I'm struggling a bit and figured it's better to just get it off my chest rather than keep stressing about it. I know we all have good days and not so good days but lately I cannot shake the feeling that I am never going to achieve my goals like this is some Sisyphean task I've been charged with. I try not to dwell on the past (aka when I was fit) but it's been creeping into my thoughts with more fervency than before. Anybody have any good tips for shaking this feeling?

Hey I'm Cassie a single mother of one.
I've been struggling with my weight for years and at some point during my pregnancy I felt this urge to explore this beautiful state I live in and a desire to unplug from the digital world and realized something. Unplugging isn't the normal any more. I decided I didn't want my daughter to grow up that way and I needed to teach her. I'm starting to get more and more active while eating better so I can (1) teach Hazel how to eat healthy and (2) be able to take my daughter on awesome outdoor adventures and have the energy to do it. It's been great and although it's taking hard work I keep reminding myself that each right decision is going to make it easier to do it right next time.

Hey everyone! Thanks for well wishes and sharing your goals and struggles, this is definitely a journey and I know we can help each other get to our destinations!
emoticon

I had a hard time with eating and then tracking....that is to say, tracking throughout or at the day. It's been muuuch easier for me to track [what I intend to eat] a couple days ahead of time and then just check the nutrition tracker before I leave for work. Just something new to try for those struggling with tracking :) Sometimes I don't eat what I planned, but updating the tracker is easy. I think it helps with snacking too. If I go to eat something I think, 'this isn't on my tracker, do I really want to eat it?' Generally the answer is no, and sometimes I choose something healthier.

Anyone else have tips for tracking or motivation? I'm willing to try new things!

SINGORAMA, have fun with your sister doing this! I'm sure you'll both get on track! My sister and I lost weight together a couple years ago and it was great (and successful!) -- we did a lot together and got a little competitive which really made it memorable! Good luck!

STARSLOBBER, that sounds like a tough workout!

Found the motivation to landscape my backyard this week. Gained a couple pounds of muscle so far, I'm trying to lose weight but more lean muscle means higher metabolism and the faster I'll burn off fat in the long run. Burned over 1000 calories today shoveling bark for a couple hours, talk about a workout! My arms are so sore. Feels great knowing how much stronger and fit I am, I wouldn't of lasted 20 minutes doing the same thing a year ago.

Hi, I'm not new to Spark, but I've never shared before. I recently started a weight loss "challenge" with my sister and we are both struggling to get going. She started with a month of nutrisystem, which was waaaay too restricting. I am lucky to have a bit of a health nut for a boyfriend and I feel more and more like he wants to help me lose the weight so I'm happier:)

I am really struggling this week. I'm having a hard time finding the motivation and I've been so tired lately so exercise has been a challenge too. I've been wearing my tracker and logging most of my food but I know I am going over on my daily totals. I can only hope that things will go up from here. emoticon

First time ever posting...motivation is the hardest part most days. But yesterday that all changed when my 4 year old lovely comes up to me in the kitchen and says "Mommy your belly is so big again. Am I going to have another sister?"

Reality Check.

Started Neila Rey's 30 Days of Change Exercise Program yesterday. Calorie range is easy...its balancing the good and bad carbs and such.

Here's to hope!

"To be successful, all you have to do is accomplishe the kind of things you're supposed to. Whereas when you are ambitious, you're being a bit more extraordinary!"

Awesome Lacey! I'm working to lose some baby weight and by next spring I'm hoping to be happy, healthy, and actively chasing after my daughter who should be a good walker by then.

Great job, WILDHUNTRESS!

Just wanted to check in with this team! I have 100 pounds to lose and I can't get it off quickly enough! I'm 29 and fully intend to be 115 on my 30th birthday next year. :)

I was active on sp 4 years ago, I lost 60 pounds before I fell back into terrible habits and I gained it ALL back! I can't remember being happier in my life though, so my motto is that famous Nike slogan, JUST DO IT. Whether I want to or not, no excuses. I'm the one who got myself here and I'm the one that has to get myself back!

No excuses. Just do it.

My weight is still the same according to the scale at the gym. I feel more toned though. I wish I had my body fat scale so I could check and see if I've lost fat but I'll get it back soon.
