Been trying to stay strong and stay positive and it's been incredibly hard to do. Sleeping has been all over the place and having lost my brother March 12th... well I can't even explain that feeling because it's a mix of about 10 negative ones. Eating healthy has been a challenge as of lately but it won't stop me from reaching my goals even if they do take longer to obtain.

I think I'm ready to take that next step of eating healthier and exercising more, it might boost my mood slightly but I don't think I'll be my same old self for quite a while.

Hope everyone else is having a decent weekend. Sorry I've been slightly mia lately.

I SERIOUSLY need some friends my age on here. I love the connections I have made so far, but most of my friends are over 40 and are on a different path in life. I just need someone who understands my lingo :)
Any takers?

I joined a couple months ago and am doing great with tracking what I eat. I've struggled with my weight for several years and it's starting to effect how I feel. I am ready for a change. I find it hard to stay motivated and wanting to work out in the winter months. I also do not own a gym membership because I can not afford one at this time.Any work outs I do are done at home. Does any one have any advice for shedding some pounds? Or for a kickstart?

Tannerz, keep in mind that muscle is more dense that fat. You may be gaining weight and it be your gains from working out, especially if you are doing weight training. Typically people gain weight but lose inches before they lose pounds. It has a lot to do with your muscles toning up. Have you measured yourself lately? I personally have had this happen before and know how discouraging it can be, but keep on working! Try to pay attention to the way your clothes fit and the way you feel.

Only thing I drink are water, coffee and tea. I'll try the coconut water. I think I've tried it before and absolutely hated it. But it doesn't hurt to give it another chance. Thanks for the advice!

I just got my Misfit yesterday and think I'm really going to like it. It fills natural for me to wear. The other new thing that I am doing for my fitness is doing Focus T-25. I really like this work out and it fits in my schedule very well.

Tannerz, some people hold more water initially when increasing fitness. Are you drinking enough water? If so, consider adding an electrolyte enhanced option (I like coconut water instead of Gatorade and sports drinks). If your body needs more water and electrolytes than it is getting it might be retaining excess water which would cause the scale to go up more quickly.

I've been going crazy on fitness in the last few weeks... however the scale still keeps going up. Sort of wondering whats up. Been walking 8+km a day and recently got a 100km badge on my fitbit and I've only owned it for a week and a half.

10 minutes a day is definitely a good start. I can definitely relate to food being a temptation but trust me it gets easier!

Great job! Food is very social for me, so I completely understand the temptation. Just keep hitting those smalls goals and before you know it you'll be so far on your way to the big one!

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, I'm new to the team, but I wanted to share my last two days successes.

I just re-joined SparkPeople two days ago and in those two days we had 3 birthdays in my office and someone brought donuts. I did not eat any cake or donuts and stuck to my calorie amounts both days. I also have cut out sweetened coffee drinks and replaced them with black tea and coffee to cut calories.

It seems small, but I'm really proud of avoiding those temptations. Food is very social for me, and it can be a real struggle for me to pass up food with friends and co-workers. I've stuck through really well these past two days and have a work event this evening with free hours d'oeuvres and am planning on eating a small snack before so that I won't be as tempted and will keep it up.

I also have committed to not using the elevator and doing at least 10 minutes of exercise a day. Again it may not seem like much, but I'm hoping by starting with small goals I'll be able to be consistent and stick with it.

The last 3 months of last year kicked my booty. I didn't get on here, and didn't eat well at all! But here it is a new year so a fresh start! I'm back and ready to get this weight off!

Hey everyone!

I had a pretty busy weekend, filled with cleaning. I actually think I lost 2 pounds from this weekend alone. I find when I clean I lose track of time and don't snack as much. My parents and brother finally got in around 8PM last night. I'm from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada but moved to London, Ontario, Canada temporarily with my Fiance so that he can finish his degree at Fanshawe College, plus his family is here so they bought a home for us to live in until he graduates... which we couldn't pass up!

Anyway, my family is down for a week which is awesome but a bit cramped in a fairly small 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom "starter" home as I'd like to call it. My brother is stuck sleeping on the couch in the living room... but he says he doesn't mind! When I left for work this morning my siberian husky Yoshi was curled up beside him... it was so cute! I wanted to take a picture but that would have seemed uber creepy.

So... I'm stuck at work from 9-5 Mon-Wed which sucks! I want to be spending time with all the sleepy heads but I can't since I'm on contract and don't really want to get bad reviews by taking time off before the end of my contract (Dec 31st, yikes... pretty close!) My mom says she'll be baking all day... I just have to remind myself not to touch it.. but she makes amazing pies.. wish me luck this week! lol.

I will listen to Dubstep and work out on the treadmill, even play games on my phone while I'm brisk walking, etc, not saying I haven't almost flown off a few times. :P

on such difficult times, i got 2 saveers that work (for me):
emoticon
- put some upbeat intense music on and just do what you usually do (work, read, cook etc). if you're not up and dancing in ten- fifteen minutes i'm paying your rent for the month. emoticon

- find a beautiful route: be it a nice street/hike path nearby, a park, a walk by the seaside, a vintage street with vintage stores, a sight street etc. whatever you like, whatever can take your mind away for a few minutes. nature is particularly beneficial, but make do with what you have in where you live. big churches tend to have great gardens too and you don't have to be religious (i'm not) to enjoy a peaceful walk there; you just have to have a loving heart.

I agree with wildhuntress, I just made it a rule. I'm doing 30 Day Shred as well right now, so my rule is that I can't go to bed until I do both videos. I don't want to take a single day off because it always turns into 2 or 3... or a week for me. Believe me, I have some late night work outs, but I'm really proud when I finish. Plus, the streak does feel good, I'm only 4 days in but loving it!

It helps for me to turn off the workout video sound and put some upbeat Pandora station or another on. Some songs I dance more than follow the video precisely, other songs I'm all focus and form.

Hi everyone.

I just recently reached a milestone of 50 lbs lost total since I started back in Dec 2012. It's been tough but fun! Still got a lot more to go but I'm super happy with what I've accomplished so far.

Just joined today for the first time! Looking forward to all the support to chat with! I see you ordered the activity tracker! How's it working? I'm thinking I'll wait a few weeks to get comfortable with this program and see how people are liking it. Keep up the good work!

I know this is a little late, but I figured I would share my thoughts any ways! My sister-in-law has a fitbit flex and she absolutely loves it! Apparently you can sink it with your phone (any smartphone) and computer so you never have to worry about transferring any of that information.
I suppose it really depends on what kind of tracker you are looking for too. I would follow the recommendations of doing research on-line and going from there!

Hey folks,

Sorry to be totally off topic here but I just thought I'd say hi and ask how you're all going on? I joined Spark about 2 weeks ago and have lost 6lbs so far (only 76 more to go ha!)! I go slightly over my calorie allowance on here most days, having about 1600 rather than 1550 but it seems to be working for me!

I want to up my activity soon but at the moment I'm having light therapy at the hospital and have to go 3 times a week - which consists of 2 buses to the hospital, 2 home - a 4 hour round trip - then straight to work for 9am - 5pm - so I'm very tired right now, but am doing lots of walking!!

Hope everyone is having a fab week! emoticon

82lbs to lose...wish me luck!

I track my own activity as it is easier for me to use pen and paper, but the fitbit is one of the better tracking tools.

I know I have not been active lately and am very happy to see that there is a great group of people here who are sharing and motivating each other. There are some new exciting changes coming to the team layouts and I am anxious to see how they help us all support each other even more :)

I had a fitbit zip it was ok I definitely don't think it was worth what I paid for it at the time but I know the flex does more so maybe that is, I think it measures your sleep as well right? that would be neat. I have not tried the jawbone or the spark one I am going to be getting a polar ft4 heart rate monitor next to help push up the intensity of my workouts. I'd look up online reviews or comparisons between them I'm sure they're out there, google has everything ;)
