Hey LIFEWRITINGS,

First, congrats for getting back on SparkPeople. Once you start taking actions that are consistent with that you want and what matters to you, it's easier and easier to take those actions. This is your first action - putting it out there to all of us on SP that you're committed to getting healthy. I really appreciate you being so honest about what it's like for you right now. We are all here supporting you and each other. Don't be afraid to eat (it doesn't sound insane that you are afraid right now). Eat what makes your body feel healthy. What are 1 or 2 things that you can do today that will forward your commitment to live a healthy lifestyle?

GOOD LUCK!

"The voice in your head that says you can't do it is a LIAR."

I'm sorry, I know I have been on in a super long time. Life has just gotten busy. With that business, all the weight I lost came back. I'm too scared to step on a scale, but my clothes are getting tighter and not wanting to fit. I don't really know what to do. I'm too afraid to eat right now. I know that sounds insane. But it really feels like food is my enemy right now.I just know I'm sick of being this way. I can't get to 400 pounds, but if I don't stop this madness, that's what my fate will be by the end of the year, if not sooner.

Actually the full feeling isn't caused by your stomach actually being full its caused by your brains reaction to chemicals released while eating that's why they say you should eat slowly because it takes your brain around 20 minutes to register these chemicals. Drinking a glass of water 10 minutes before you eat helps speed this process up. You just need to learn to start listening to your body we're so used to just scarfing down however much food is placed in front of us without stopping to listen to our bodies cues.

Sabrinia,
Remember that your stomach is suppose to be about the size of your fist. Drink one cup of water about an half hour before you eat and then eat one plate, bowl, or what ever. Wait ten minutes to see if you feel satisfied, if not then get a smaller portion of the food and wait an additional 10 minutes after eating the second helping. Also try to eat the most nutritious foods possible. Our bodies can be confusing and causing you to eat more because it is lacking the vitamins and minerals it needs therefor causing one to overeat.

To everyone: I"m starting a 30 day weight loss called small steps to taking back your temple. If anyone would like to check out here is the link. www.takebackyourtemple.com/small-steps-to-
weight-loss-tips-day-1/

Also Kimberly Taylor the author of Take Back Your Temple has some really great articles that speak to emotional eating.

Hi team,

Just got back from a uick squash game with a friend. Drinking my coffee now and hoping the kids give me a few more minutes of quiet today! Todays goal is to eat small snacks between meals and healthy meals for lunch and dinner without over doing it. Going to do my best to stay in my calorie range! Have a great day everyone emoticon

Does anyone here use a Nike+ Fuel Band? I dusted mine off last weekend and I have to say its a huge motivation to get up and moving. I set my goal to 2000 Fuel Points as I have a desk job and I'd hit it today by 5pm :-)

Ugh I need to set a routine everyday the same way no matter what is going on. I don't understand why it is so hard as an adult to create a routine, as a child I was set in a routine all the time. Maybe I just need my Grams around to keep me in check.

coffee with creamer has been my downfall as well, except I LOVE pumpkin.... the thing that has helped me is getting a good green tea. I started drinking tea with lemongrass in it, and it also has mint in it, so it is really good tasting without sugar. I drink the tea in place of my morning coffee and it helps me wake up, and gives me way more energy than my coffee did, without huring my stomach or giving me heartburn. Good luck to you, friend. That's a hard habit to kick, but you can do it! emoticon

those "healthy" snacks are ridiculous most of the time.
i Live in greece and along with the other BS at the processed snacks supermarket Department (i often check to see if there's anything novel, sugar free, vegan and sort of wholesome), I noticed some WW biscuits. WW products are not sold here- not at common supermarkets at least; so i was excited to see such novelty here. I went on checking the ingredients list and i was HEAVILY disappointed. I'm not sure what WW program is all about- but I guess that since it's diet and healthy(?) related, it should be of better nutritional quality than the other cookies. But all I read was sugar, white Flour and margerine. It made me feel sick to my stomach just reading about all the additives and plastic ingredients.
nothing beats a homemade treat, girlfriends! emoticon
my sister is visiting on friday and since she'll be flying on an empty stomach, I plan on making her some vegan, sugar and fat Free apple muffins. i'll use some Extra sweetener (i'm trying stevia) for hers, but i'll keep mine semi-sweet. i've grown into a non-sweet-tooth person (even though i've been a sugar junkie for the biggest part of my life) after all this time of whole food eating.

I have the same addiction to Hot chocolate, especially in this dern cold weather! LOL. All the calories in Milk and the chocolate syrup, then the eventual marshmallows that MUST be put in. UGH! Here is my solution (since I, too, have intense sugar cravings):

Trimmaccino. Yes, Trimmaccino. Here is the recipe link:

http://www.thelaundrymoms.com/hot-chocolate-trimmaccino/

It's fabulous!

I don't really have an answer for you except to say that I feel for you. I think I will try to invent a pill you take in the morning that would make all food that is not good for you taste bad but I suck at science so that probably won't happen lol

I have become the weird lady who brushes her teeth everywhere I carry a toothbrush and paste in my purse and whenever I start to crave something sweet I go brush my teeth it helps me. Good luck :)

So I discovered an evil, evil, EVIL product and I can't seem to kick the habit of it.

As a "feel better" present when I got back to the States, a friend bought me...get this...a Girl Scout cookie creamer. Specifically, Thin Mint flavored.

Don't buy it. You will not be able to stop drinking it. It's way too good!

So: I need advice. How do I curb this particular craving for sweets? It's not even THAT sweet (I don't put extra sugar in it...just the creamer). But it's a semi-sweet craving for something minty. A mild biscotti won't do, and neither will replacing it with honey or Agave nectar (I already tried these, heh)!

Hey 3lbs is 3lbs! That's a big deal you should be happy! Keep working and those will be 3lbs you never have to lose again! Lose another 3 this month and your 6lbs closer! Sometimes the weight comes off slowly but each pound is a victory and you have to think of it that way. Also did you answer all the questions in the no weigh in November? Did you lose any inches? Did you see an improvement in your energy levels, are you improving in your workouts, do your pants feel any looser? Every step closer is an important step, keeping going!

Just found out they named her Elora - I like it! Apparently no visitors other than spouse or grandparents are allowed at the hospital at all, so I haven't been able to see them yet. She had a C-section so I imagine they will be keeping her a few days... I'm hoping she can be home by the weekend so that her other best friend can meet Elora before she has to go out of town for a month!!

Thank you all for the encouragement. That is one thing I often feel. That I'm not good enough. And it's not just with my weight. It's with a lot of things in my life, but I am working on it. :) I understand the road is a long one and that it will take a while for me to accomplish what I'm working at.

Eberkshire86 is soooo right!
I've been dieting since july. was i always on track? noooooo sir! emoticon
Quite a few times, I'd let myself go on a binge because "i could stop whenever i wanted to". But of course I never wanted to stop. emoticon Which means that the next day I would get so disappointed on myself that I'd binge again. I thought "I'll make up for it tomorrow". And tomorrow became the day after tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow became the day after the day after tomorrow. Anyhow, that "day" could last 1-2 weeks. Till I found the courage to weigh in, see that i had gained 2-4 kgs back (or 5-9 pounds), kick myself down for canceling my progress so shamelessly, realising that this has to be so much more than another diet (lifestyle freakin' change! it's habits i'm trying to create, not magically wish all the pounds away!) and then suck it all up and startover.
This happened 5-6 times. Every 2-4 weeks i'd go on a binge. but, since i never gave up on myself, i'm still here. I'm still trying. The weight i am in now is not the result of a gain-back (when talking about the last few months). Because as time goes by, the need to binge slowly fades away.
I'm also on a plateau right now. Yes, i got disappointed and discouraged when the scale read the same number. Did I go on a binge? Nooo sir! Why? Because now I feel I'm too good to waste me away. Because I know I worth so much more than what a scale tells me. Tells you 400 pounds? Read 400 pounds of awesomeness. Tells you 399 pounds? Read 400 pounds of awesomeness and 1 pound of divine amazingness. 401? 400 pounds of awesomeness and 1 pound of the endless ways in which you can be even more awesome!
You know what I did instead of emotional eating? I thought of my small victories one by one. Almost 4 months of effort. 4 meals a day eaten healthily (most of the time) - that's a lot of meals! A lot of non-junk-sugary-fatty-sooooo terribly bad for you-kickass meals. 24 hours a day every day resisting the inner urge to binge. Hours after hours of exercise. A few pounds gone. Woohoo! Why am I not celebrating instead of beatung myself up? Do I care I've hit a plateau now? Noooooooooo sir!
Instead of going on a binge, I tried on those new clothes that will fit me, hopefully, in a few months. I also tried on those clothes that were too tight once and now they're somewhat baggier.
That's all it took to set me free.
I urge you to do the same. You're so much better than you think. A stupid scale will never tell you how wonderful you are or how great you've done going as far as you did. You're brave. And courageous. And strong. And oh, so so so beautiful.

don't feel bad we all have those days where we just stop and say how the heck did I even eat all that!? Ideally we would never binge but you know what we work to improve not perfect. You had a binge but it was 1 binge out of how many days? I bet that's a lot better than where you used to be. Take it as a win I used to binge a few times a week but as I became more conscious of what I was eating and I worked out more feeling better about myself while I went that number went down to once a week then a few times a month do I still have times where I eat waaaayyyy to much, yes I'm not perfect but I don't let it get me down I just remind myself that one bad meal won't make me fat just like one healthy meal won't make me skinny and I move on. Usually I try to eat 100% clean the next day and drink lots of water and that helps remove some of the bloated feeling you get after overeating. Your one slip up doesn't erase all the hardwork you've put in so far so don't give up keep pushing forward you will do this and we will be here for you while you do!

LIFEWRITINGS,
We all have our bad days. You know how many calories you could have had instead? 6000. 8000. Even 11000. But you "only" had 4311.
Don't let that bring you down; it's not the end. it's just a bad day. So you lost a battle. So what? Next round you can AND YOU SHALL kick some serious a$$!!!! emoticon
You can get back on track anytime. You might actually be there already; Remember that each time you fall, you're only one healthy meal away or one workout away from getting back on track! emoticon
So, for today just don't think about that. If you would normally exercise, then go out and do it anyway. It'll make you feel better and it'll fix your mindset, cause you'll be proving to yourself that the fight is still on and you're not giving up, so you'll subconsciously start to stop kicking yourself up.
Plus, it's not all about the calories, it's also about they kind of food. Was there any good, nutritious stuff? Plus, how's the fat intake? you could have consumed too many calories but not too much fat. emoticon And even if you have, again, it's just a bad day. Delete it from your mind. In the long run, it'll mean nothing. It's not about how many times you fall, it's about how many times you get up. emoticon
And congratulations for getting this far with your weightloss. Every little pound lost counts, every minute of exercise counts, every second you spent trying to re-create your mindset about food is IMPORTANT and every day with a good mood and high energy is valuable. emoticon

Oh Lord have mercy. Today was not a good day when it comes to food. breakfast started out good, and lunch was okay. but then I ended up eating another three meals back to back with leftovers now in my fridge from two of them. I don't even want to log today in my meal tracker. :(

I know that can happen to a lot of people they look at the scale see no loss or even a gain and they think i'm doing everything right why aren't I losing what's the point and they give up or they binge or they just feel badly about themselves that's why I set up the no weigh in November thread because really there is so much more to it than that. I went down 3 pants sizes in a matter of just 15lbs and that 15lbs took me a year to lose so really the number didn't have anything to do with it. Even the months where I didn't lose anything according to my scale I was still slimming down and toning up changes WERE happening! But if I had ignored my non scale victories and focused solely on my weight I never would have gotten down from a size 16 to a tight 10 (yea those are my goal pants for this month lol) I mean 15lbs a year doesn't seem like much of anything that's just a little over a lb a month very easy to get discouraged and I did plenty of times but I always came back I always tried again! Point of my story is don't get discouraged and stay focused on all the good things this healthy lifestyle is doing for you!

@ EBERKSHIRE86 Thanks! I really needed to hear that, I can already feel a difference in a lot of things, I do have more energy and I haven't had heartburn since day two. That alone is big for me because I was popping tums like candy. A bottle every two weeks. So I do see differences. I just got ahead of myself when I didn't see any report on the scale.

I wouldn't worry too much didn't you say you had a big loss last week? Not every week will be a multiple lb loss week. Everyone loses at different paces if you're eating right and getting in some exercise it will come off. Some weeks you may not lose any and others you can lose 2-3 it also can be affected by where you are in your cycle, how much sodium you ate lately how much sleep you got ect. Don't give up, starting is the hardest part you don't want to have to do that all over again! Tell yourself your going to give it at least a month and in one month reassess how you feel. Not just what the number on the scale says but how your attitude has changed how your energy levels have changed ect there is more to losing weight than just a number on the scale and changes take longer than 2 weeks to happen give it time you'll see those results your wanting.

I'm doing my very best not to deprive myself. For example I'll be going out with friends for dinner this Friday. Actually I'm choosing not to eat after 7pm because I've been told by so many people how bad it is. And it's not about the calories, because there have been several days where I've actually hit under my min. calories, not purposely, but it does happen. When it comes down to it, I'm just tired of being big. I don't ever remember a time when I was below the obesity line. So I want to do everything I can to get there.

@ LIFEWRITINGS-Sounds good you should definitely focus on one goal at a time especially when youíre first starting out so you donít get overwhelmed. It stinks when the people around us offer up temptation all the time my fiancť is the same way I just try to keep lots of healthy food on hand that I do love and make sure I always have healthy meals planned if I have a plan ahead of time Iím less likely to cave in to the easy way out of fast food. But even when I do cave on occasion I donít feel bad about it one bad meal isnít going to wreck all the progress Iíve made and while I want to get healthier and lose weight I also donít want to feel deprived itís hard finding that middle ground!

@SHADOWJELO Iíve heard good things about them and it sounds like a good program that teaches moderation but Iím too poor for any of that lol

And as far as night time goes I agree with COSMICWATCHER just save some of your calories for later in the day if you know itís going to be a problem for you. Veggies are pretty much a free food and you can snack on them whenever!

LIFEWRITINGS: you know you could try to eat only a part of your dinner when it's dinner time and save the rest for after 7pm when your cravings start.
i don't know if it's any helpful at all...
or you could have grilled (oil free though) vegetables or fruit after 7pm.
even if you eat more calories, they will come from stuff with a lot of water and no fat at all
which means you can count it as your lunch salad part 2... emoticon
i've discussed this with dieticians and they say that if it's vegetables or oil free, grain free vegetable soup, there is not problem, you can have those extra calories without any guilt at all.

Hi I'm new here too!

Have you guys thought about trying Weight Watchers? You can still pretty much eat whatever you want but it teaches you better eating habits in the long run. I don't feel like I'm on a diet anymore, I feel like I've started a life style that I can continue for the rest of my life. Sorry... I kind of sounded like an advertisment.

It feels like everyday it gets a little bit worse. I almost drank a soda today. I didn't but I was close. I think what stopped me was remembering last night when I was getting ready for church I put on a dress I haven't been able to fit into in over a year. And that's just with the first ten pounds gone. I want so badly to do this right. It's not easy when your husband and roommate are constantly eating fast food or junk food (daily). It's not going to stop me though, I have too many reasons not to give in. I plan to start exercising soon, but for the next three days I think I'll simply focus on my diet.

O yea big time here I started back up eating clean this week and all I can think about is cookies and cheese bread and tons of other processed goodies I can't eat right now last night I was laying in bed just reciting the list of everything I wanted to eat to my fiancť he was like what the heck is the matter with you lol I try to wait them out most of the time if I find something else to keep my mind busy it passes quickly either that or I'll go brush my teeth or chew some gum if I'm not home that usually helps too

good to know :) I just got through my first week of this whole eating right thing. 10 pounds lighter! Is anyone else dealing with cravings? I feel like all I am thinking about is food. And there are certain foods that I want but know I can't give in too. It's enough to drive a girl batty lol.

I'm the opposite, drawn to salty late night snacks :)

but hey if sweets are what you crave it's great that you've identified this! Now you can make sure you have lots of healthy sweet snack options on hand I usually get my sweet attack right after lunch so I keep hard candy in my car and tic tacks in my purse usually one or two is enough to battle the craving and I don't ruin my whole day by caving in. That or brush your teeth that always helps me at night when I can't shut my brain off sometimes I'll get up and brush them two or three times until the minty-ness seems to finally click something in my brain saying ok we are done eating for the day!

Great job with the tea as an alternative Keep up the great work! :)

I've noticed something interesting. EVERY night I eat sweet things in one form or another. Tonight has been fairly safe, with it just being homemade sweet tea. But usually it's cake, candy, or ice cream, possibly a combination of them

emoticon TATTEDZOMBIE! Glad to have you on the team! What is your current weight loss plan? The biggest thing I can suggest is to track EVERYTHING for awhile I know its a pain in the butt however it will really give you a great look at what your eating and makes you more aware of portions. The other thing is when you do track remember that its not just about calories your carb/protein ratio also affects weight loss as do other factors like fat and sodium. On the fitness end I would say make sure that you are including strength training in with your cardio because the more lean muscle you build the more calories you burn and the better metabolism you will have! And lastly don't try to make a million changes at once start with small goals and build on them or you will be in danger of burning out quickly please let us know if you have any questions or need anything else we're here to help you meet your goals!

I reached/glimpsed ONEderland today! It was quite an accomplishment, and now I can see that being out of the Obese BMI is just around the corner!

I also wrote a blog about the seasons of my life and how I've seen that affect my weight. I think it is something we should think about, especially as 20-somethings who go through a lot of life changes. Check it out! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5478387

morning is always the best time to weigh yourself since your weight fluctuates so much throughout the day depending on a lot of factors like food and fluid consumption. This will give you the most accurate picture of your weight loss as you go.

So I have a question... First off I bought a bathroom scale the other day because i want to see my progress and everything. And since I wanted to know what i weighed I wet ahead and stepped on it. According to the scale I had lost 6 pounds.Granted I had just eaten about 20 min before, drank a bottle of water, ad was fully clothed. But someone told me it was best to weigh yourself in the morning when you first wake up. So I did the following morning and it showed I had lost 16 lbs. not the 6. My question is... Is weighing yourself in the morning more accurate, or is there a better time ti weigh yourself, or.... something? Haha. =) Thanks for any info.

CMCGUIRE88 whenever you have a question like this that is not answered here you can always go to the message boards and ask there, they are broken down by category and have a spark coach that usually checks in there and can answer your questions.

Thats awesome Whitney!! keep it up girl! isn't it wonderful the things that can happen when your body gets used to a healthy routine?!

I went for a walk yesterday, just grabbed my water and left. no where in particular, just started walking. 3.25 miles and i drank 4 cups of water on that walk alone! ^_^ YAY!!! it was wonderful! over an hour of walking. i decided i want to try and walk every day. havent decided day or night, but im looking forward to my next one! hopefully the weather cooperates this week! (its supposed to be over 100 tomorrow!) its funny how having a good mood is causing me to be much much more motivated at tracking things and being healthier!

Congratulations Whitney!!! emoticon

I hope to be just as successful!! It's amazing your body can't tolerate that kind of sugar anymore! I'm so worried about my sweet tooth giving me diabetes. That's another reason why I'm changing my lifestyle.

Again, congratulations and keep it up! emoticon

Hi everyone!!

I have noticed that my body has definitely made a change for the best! I have allowed myself for one day during the week, which is Sunday, which i can let myself enjoy some sweets, not a lot but some. So am going to be honest of what I ate but you will be shocked on what happened afterwards! Ok, so i went to Sheetz in the morning because I had to be a work at 6am so I was like im going to get something quick. So i got a doughnut, almonds, and a thing of grapes from there. Well when i ate only 1 bite of my doughnut and then i had to throw it away because it was just too sweet for me. So my breakfast was the almonds and the grapes! And then when i got home I was so tired from work 11 hrs the day before and then another 9 that day, i changed and went on a 2 mile walk with one of my friends! So i was thinking that since i haven't really eaten all day that i was going to eat a lot for dinner because i was starving. Nope my body was just like hey just have one bowl of dinner from the other night. So yeah. My body doesn't like sugary things anymore, like doughnuts, and it only wants a certain amount of food for a meal. Can you say big change from before?!

Also I am happy to report, even though my little tracker at the end of my post is in single digits of my weight lost, that i have hit DOUBLE digits in my weight lost!!! i have lost a total of 10 lbs!!! Yay!

Hope everyone has a great day! Just remember, if you lose one pound or 10 pounds, it is a pound that will be off forever! =)

hey guys!

So this week was okay, I think I probably maintained which is okay by me! I need to keep remembering to check in here! haha. Teams and message boards are always so encouraging!

@cmcguire88- I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you! But I have wondered the same thing sometimes. I wish I had a body bugg or something similar that was more accurate in how many calories I burn! I am starting up exercise again next week, i'll try to keep track when I am on machines. :)

I have an exercise question... How accurate is the fitness tracker? I did 1 hour on the recumbent bike yesterday, and logged 21.36 miles. I chose the vigorous recumbent bike on the tracker since I went over 15mph, but that said I burned over 800 calories! Now, as much as I would love to have burned that much, I just don't know if it is true. The bike said I burned 274, BUT it didn't take into account my age or weight. I also don't know how to add those to get a better gauge on the bike. There isn't a button for entering weight like on their treadmills.

Any insight on this would be very much appreciated!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. This was my first week back on SP in months, and I lost 3 lbs! I'm sure it was all/mostly water weight, and due to the fact that 2 weekends ago I was plagued with food poisoning from Panda Express. This weekend my appetite was back with a vengeance! I went over my calorie range Saturday and Sunday, but I'm back on track today and will make sure I continue to stay within my range this week.

emoticon Have a great week!

@KAITLYN993 - I agree with CMCGUIRE88! Changing up food in addition to workouts helped me break through a little plateau I had that lasted a month (super frustrating). You mentioned doing extra workouts, but are you also changing up your "go to" workouts?

@BYEBYEFAT and ACLAPP21 - count me in the same boat as you two! You've just described my own goals for the year. I think you'll find a lot of motivation on the boards and with group participation. It's certainly helped me with the small successes I've had so far!

My main goal right now is to get under 200lbs by the end of the year. I can't even remember the last time i was under 200! I am currently 225 and down 15 pounds.
I am in need of all the extra motivation I can get so I am excited to be a part of this team!

Hey folks. I've been following this thread for a few days now and am happy to join. I need to lose about 70 lbs and my husband is no help when it comes to eating healthier, lol. I gained all this weight when I became pregnant 4 years ago and have been trying to get rid of it since. Looking forward to keeping up with you folks. Hopefully you can give me the motivation I need :)

Hey Kaitlyn! Have you tried changing up your foods? I've heard that can help. Also, don't weigh on a daily basis. I used to do that and it would just frustrate me to no end when I didn't see a change or, heaven forbid, a gain. My fiancť starts getting on to me if he sees me doing that haha! You'll get past your mini plateau! Stay positive emoticon
