ps: you can search spark or youtube for upbeat music if such music is not your usual cup of tea.

on such difficult times, i got 2 saveers that work (for me):
emoticon
- put some upbeat intense music on and just do what you usually do (work, read, cook etc). if you're not up and dancing in ten- fifteen minutes i'm paying your rent for the month. emoticon
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
- find a beautiful route: be it a nice street/hike path nearby, a park, a walk by the seaside, a vintage street with vintage stores, a sight street etc. whatever you like, whatever can take your mind away for a few minutes. nature is particularly beneficial, but make do with what you have in where you live. big churches tend to have great gardens too and you don't have to be religious (i'm not) to enjoy a peaceful walk there; you just have to have a loving heart.

I agree with wildhuntress, I just made it a rule. I'm doing 30 Day Shred as well right now, so my rule is that I can't go to bed until I do both videos. I don't want to take a single day off because it always turns into 2 or 3... or a week for me. Believe me, I have some late night work outs, but I'm really proud when I finish. Plus, the streak does feel good, I'm only 4 days in but loving it!

It helps for me to turn off the workout video sound and put some upbeat Pandora station or another on. Some songs I dance more than follow the video precisely, other songs I'm all focus and form.

Hi everyone.

I just recently reached a milestone of 50 lbs lost total since I started back in Dec 2012. It's been tough but fun! Still got a lot more to go but I'm super happy with what I've accomplished so far.

I know this is a little late, but I figured I would share my thoughts any ways! My sister-in-law has a fitbit flex and she absolutely loves it! Apparently you can sink it with your phone (any smartphone) and computer so you never have to worry about transferring any of that information.
I suppose it really depends on what kind of tracker you are looking for too. I would follow the recommendations of doing research on-line and going from there!

Hey folks,

Sorry to be totally off topic here but I just thought I'd say hi and ask how you're all going on? I joined Spark about 2 weeks ago and have lost 6lbs so far (only 76 more to go ha!)! I go slightly over my calorie allowance on here most days, having about 1600 rather than 1550 but it seems to be working for me!

I want to up my activity soon but at the moment I'm having light therapy at the hospital and have to go 3 times a week - which consists of 2 buses to the hospital, 2 home - a 4 hour round trip - then straight to work for 9am - 5pm - so I'm very tired right now, but am doing lots of walking!!

Hope everyone is having a fab week! emoticon

82lbs to lose...wish me luck!

I track my own activity as it is easier for me to use pen and paper, but the fitbit is one of the better tracking tools.

I know I have not been active lately and am very happy to see that there is a great group of people here who are sharing and motivating each other. There are some new exciting changes coming to the team layouts and I am anxious to see how they help us all support each other even more :)

I had a fitbit zip it was ok I definitely don't think it was worth what I paid for it at the time but I know the flex does more so maybe that is, I think it measures your sleep as well right? that would be neat. I have not tried the jawbone or the spark one I am going to be getting a polar ft4 heart rate monitor next to help push up the intensity of my workouts. I'd look up online reviews or comparisons between them I'm sure they're out there, google has everything ;)

Hey LIFEWRITINGS,

First, congrats for getting back on SparkPeople. Once you start taking actions that are consistent with that you want and what matters to you, it's easier and easier to take those actions. This is your first action - putting it out there to all of us on SP that you're committed to getting healthy. I really appreciate you being so honest about what it's like for you right now. We are all here supporting you and each other. Don't be afraid to eat (it doesn't sound insane that you are afraid right now). Eat what makes your body feel healthy. What are 1 or 2 things that you can do today that will forward your commitment to live a healthy lifestyle?

GOOD LUCK!

I'm sorry, I know I have been on in a super long time. Life has just gotten busy. With that business, all the weight I lost came back. I'm too scared to step on a scale, but my clothes are getting tighter and not wanting to fit. I don't really know what to do. I'm too afraid to eat right now. I know that sounds insane. But it really feels like food is my enemy right now.I just know I'm sick of being this way. I can't get to 400 pounds, but if I don't stop this madness, that's what my fate will be by the end of the year, if not sooner.

Actually the full feeling isn't caused by your stomach actually being full its caused by your brains reaction to chemicals released while eating that's why they say you should eat slowly because it takes your brain around 20 minutes to register these chemicals. Drinking a glass of water 10 minutes before you eat helps speed this process up. You just need to learn to start listening to your body we're so used to just scarfing down however much food is placed in front of us without stopping to listen to our bodies cues.

Sabrinia,
Remember that your stomach is suppose to be about the size of your fist. Drink one cup of water about an half hour before you eat and then eat one plate, bowl, or what ever. Wait ten minutes to see if you feel satisfied, if not then get a smaller portion of the food and wait an additional 10 minutes after eating the second helping. Also try to eat the most nutritious foods possible. Our bodies can be confusing and causing you to eat more because it is lacking the vitamins and minerals it needs therefor causing one to overeat.

To everyone: I"m starting a 30 day weight loss called small steps to taking back your temple. If anyone would like to check out here is the link. www.takebackyourtemple.com/small-ste

Ugh I need to set a routine everyday the same way no matter what is going on. I don't understand why it is so hard as an adult to create a routine, as a child I was set in a routine all the time. Maybe I just need my Grams around to keep me in check.

coffee with creamer has been my downfall as well, except I LOVE pumpkin.... the thing that has helped me is getting a good green tea. I started drinking tea with lemongrass in it, and it also has mint in it, so it is really good tasting without sugar. I drink the tea in place of my morning coffee and it helps me wake up, and gives me way more energy than my coffee did, without huring my stomach or giving me heartburn. Good luck to you, friend. That's a hard habit to kick, but you can do it! emoticon

those "healthy" snacks are ridiculous most of the time.
i Live in greece and along with the other BS at the processed snacks supermarket Department (i often check to see if there's anything novel, sugar free, vegan and sort of wholesome), I noticed some WW biscuits. WW products are not sold here- not at common supermarkets at least; so i was excited to see such novelty here. I went on checking the ingredients list and i was HEAVILY disappointed. I'm not sure what WW program is all about- but I guess that since it's diet and healthy(?) related, it should be of better nutritional quality than the other cookies. But all I read was sugar, white Flour and margerine. It made me feel sick to my stomach just reading about all the additives and plastic ingredients.
nothing beats a homemade treat, girlfriends! emoticon
my sister is visiting on friday and since she'll be flying on an empty stomach, I plan on making her some vegan, sugar and fat Free apple muffins. i'll use some Extra sweetener (i'm trying stevia) for hers, but i'll keep mine semi-sweet. i've grown into a non-sweet-tooth person (even though i've been a sugar junkie for the biggest part of my life) after all this time of whole food eating.

I'm doing a 21 days no binge streak. FOR ME, it's been TREMENDOUSLY helpful to be accountable to other people and to compete against myself. Please join us if you think it'll work for you too: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

I have the same addiction to Hot chocolate, especially in this dern cold weather! LOL. All the calories in Milk and the chocolate syrup, then the eventual marshmallows that MUST be put in. UGH! Here is my solution (since I, too, have intense sugar cravings):

Trimmaccino. Yes, Trimmaccino. Here is the recipe link:

It's fabulous!

I don't really have an answer for you except to say that I feel for you. I think I will try to invent a pill you take in the morning that would make all food that is not good for you taste bad but I suck at science so that probably won't happen lol

I have become the weird lady who brushes her teeth everywhere I carry a toothbrush and paste in my purse and whenever I start to crave something sweet I go brush my teeth it helps me. Good luck :)

So I discovered an evil, evil, EVIL product and I can't seem to kick the habit of it.

As a "feel better" present when I got back to the States, a friend bought me...get this...a Girl Scout cookie creamer. Specifically, Thin Mint flavored.

Don't buy it. You will not be able to stop drinking it. It's way too good!

So: I need advice. How do I curb this particular craving for sweets? It's not even THAT sweet (I don't put extra sugar in it...just the creamer). But it's a semi-sweet craving for something minty. A mild biscotti won't do, and neither will replacing it with honey or Agave nectar (I already tried these, heh)!

"The will to conquer is the first condition of victory."

Hey 3lbs is 3lbs! That's a big deal you should be happy! Keep working and those will be 3lbs you never have to lose again! Lose another 3 this month and your 6lbs closer! Sometimes the weight comes off slowly but each pound is a victory and you have to think of it that way. Also did you answer all the questions in the no weigh in November? Did you lose any inches? Did you see an improvement in your energy levels, are you improving in your workouts, do your pants feel any looser? Every step closer is an important step, keeping going!

i'm translating some texts in english for a site that's about to be constructed and i might as well take up some part time job, where i'll be working from home.
it's the first time in my life i work... i'm a student and i could use some extra cash, now that i'm slimming down and need to buy new stuff. emoticon
but it sucks up my time.

Just found out they named her Elora - I like it! Apparently no visitors other than spouse or grandparents are allowed at the hospital at all, so I haven't been able to see them yet. She had a C-section so I imagine they will be keeping her a few days... I'm hoping she can be home by the weekend so that her other best friend can meet Elora before she has to go out of town for a month!!

LIFEWRITINGS, I think you will find this article helpful, if you haven't already read it. I struggle with low self-esteem and this article really helped me have a better understanding of my own feelings and how they were so tied in with my success. It gave me new perspective. emoticon

Thank you all for the encouragement. That is one thing I often feel. That I'm not good enough. And it's not just with my weight. It's with a lot of things in my life, but I am working on it. :) I understand the road is a long one and that it will take a while for me to accomplish what I'm working at.

Eberkshire86 is soooo right!
I've been dieting since july. was i always on track? noooooo sir! emoticon
Quite a few times, I'd let myself go on a binge because "i could stop whenever i wanted to". But of course I never wanted to stop. emoticon Which means that the next day I would get so disappointed on myself that I'd binge again. I thought "I'll make up for it tomorrow". And tomorrow became the day after tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow became the day after the day after tomorrow. Anyhow, that "day" could last 1-2 weeks. Till I found the courage to weigh in, see that i had gained 2-4 kgs back (or 5-9 pounds), kick myself down for canceling my progress so shamelessly, realising that this has to be so much more than another diet (lifestyle freakin' change! it's habits i'm trying to create, not magically wish all the pounds away!) and then suck it all up and startover.
This happened 5-6 times. Every 2-4 weeks i'd go on a binge. but, since i never gave up on myself, i'm still here. I'm still trying. The weight i am in now is not the result of a gain-back (when talking about the last few months). Because as time goes by, the need to binge slowly fades away.
I'm also on a plateau right now. Yes, i got disappointed and discouraged when the scale read the same number. Did I go on a binge? Nooo sir! Why? Because now I feel I'm too good to waste me away. Because I know I worth so much more than what a scale tells me. Tells you 400 pounds? Read 400 pounds of awesomeness. Tells you 399 pounds? Read 400 pounds of awesomeness and 1 pound of divine amazingness. 401? 400 pounds of awesomeness and 1 pound of the endless ways in which you can be even more awesome!
You know what I did instead of emotional eating? I thought of my small victories one by one. Almost 4 months of effort. 4 meals a day eaten healthily (most of the time) - that's a lot of meals! A lot of non-junk-sugary-fatty-sooooo terribly bad for you-kickass meals. 24 hours a day every day resisting the inner urge to binge. Hours after hours of exercise. A few pounds gone. Woohoo! Why am I not celebrating instead of beatung myself up? Do I care I've hit a plateau now? Noooooooooo sir!
Instead of going on a binge, I tried on those new clothes that will fit me, hopefully, in a few months. I also tried on those clothes that were too tight once and now they're somewhat baggier.
That's all it took to set me free.
I urge you to do the same. You're so much better than you think. A stupid scale will never tell you how wonderful you are or how great you've done going as far as you did. You're brave. And courageous. And strong. And oh, so so so beautiful.

don't feel bad we all have those days where we just stop and say how the heck did I even eat all that!? Ideally we would never binge but you know what we work to improve not perfect. You had a binge but it was 1 binge out of how many days? I bet that's a lot better than where you used to be. Take it as a win I used to binge a few times a week but as I became more conscious of what I was eating and I worked out more feeling better about myself while I went that number went down to once a week then a few times a month do I still have times where I eat waaaayyyy to much, yes I'm not perfect but I don't let it get me down I just remind myself that one bad meal won't make me fat just like one healthy meal won't make me skinny and I move on. Usually I try to eat 100% clean the next day and drink lots of water and that helps remove some of the bloated feeling you get after overeating. Your one slip up doesn't erase all the hardwork you've put in so far so don't give up keep pushing forward you will do this and we will be here for you while you do!

LIFEWRITINGS,
We all have our bad days. You know how many calories you could have had instead? 6000. 8000. Even 11000. But you "only" had 4311.
Don't let that bring you down; it's not the end. it's just a bad day. So you lost a battle. So what? Next round you can AND YOU SHALL kick some serious a$$!!!! emoticon
You can get back on track anytime. You might actually be there already; Remember that each time you fall, you're only one healthy meal away or one workout away from getting back on track! emoticon
So, for today just don't think about that. If you would normally exercise, then go out and do it anyway. It'll make you feel better and it'll fix your mindset, cause you'll be proving to yourself that the fight is still on and you're not giving up, so you'll subconsciously start to stop kicking yourself up.
Plus, it's not all about the calories, it's also about they kind of food. Was there any good, nutritious stuff? Plus, how's the fat intake? you could have consumed too many calories but not too much fat. emoticon And even if you have, again, it's just a bad day. Delete it from your mind. In the long run, it'll mean nothing. It's not about how many times you fall, it's about how many times you get up. emoticon
And congratulations for getting this far with your weightloss. Every little pound lost counts, every minute of exercise counts, every second you spent trying to re-create your mindset about food is IMPORTANT and every day with a good mood and high energy is valuable. emoticon

Oh Lord have mercy. Today was not a good day when it comes to food. breakfast started out good, and lunch was okay. but then I ended up eating another three meals back to back with leftovers now in my fridge from two of them. I don't even want to log today in my meal tracker. :(

I know that can happen to a lot of people they look at the scale see no loss or even a gain and they think i'm doing everything right why aren't I losing what's the point and they give up or they binge or they just feel badly about themselves that's why I set up the no weigh in November thread because really there is so much more to it than that. I went down 3 pants sizes in a matter of just 15lbs and that 15lbs took me a year to lose so really the number didn't have anything to do with it. Even the months where I didn't lose anything according to my scale I was still slimming down and toning up changes WERE happening! But if I had ignored my non scale victories and focused solely on my weight I never would have gotten down from a size 16 to a tight 10 (yea those are my goal pants for this month lol) I mean 15lbs a year doesn't seem like much of anything that's just a little over a lb a month very easy to get discouraged and I did plenty of times but I always came back I always tried again! Point of my story is don't get discouraged and stay focused on all the good things this healthy lifestyle is doing for you!

@ EBERKSHIRE86 Thanks! I really needed to hear that, I can already feel a difference in a lot of things, I do have more energy and I haven't had heartburn since day two. That alone is big for me because I was popping tums like candy. A bottle every two weeks. So I do see differences. I just got ahead of myself when I didn't see any report on the scale.

I wouldn't worry too much didn't you say you had a big loss last week? Not every week will be a multiple lb loss week. Everyone loses at different paces if you're eating right and getting in some exercise it will come off. Some weeks you may not lose any and others you can lose 2-3 it also can be affected by where you are in your cycle, how much sodium you ate lately how much sleep you got ect. Don't give up, starting is the hardest part you don't want to have to do that all over again! Tell yourself your going to give it at least a month and in one month reassess how you feel. Not just what the number on the scale says but how your attitude has changed how your energy levels have changed ect there is more to losing weight than just a number on the scale and changes take longer than 2 weeks to happen give it time you'll see those results your wanting.
