I studied dentistry for two years and I just have to say that if you do try mints or whatever make sure that they are sugar free! And make sure that you drink plenty of water. When we start to get dehydrated saliva is the first thing to go and it is saliva that washes away the acids that make holes in your teeth.
Otherwise I feel your pain but it is sooooo worth it in the end :)
yes I remember having braces ..
Ok ..I don't remember them itching ..but I would carry a little bottle of scope to rince every once in a while ..that also help in maintainning your mouth clean..
just remember that the first couple of weeks are the hardest to get use to ..after that ..you will be ok ..
I remember my braces hurt, I don't remember itching. You have to be REALLY thorough in cleaning the teeth when you have braces, and get into every nook. You can buy special "interdental" brushes for this, they look like little pipe cleaners. The itching might be due to your teeth not getting as clean as usual- I get that if I have been eating sweet stuff or am late brushing my teeth. Otherwise it might be because they're new, or may be because the teeth are being moved. You could try a low dose of painkillers if it really bugs you, that might help. If it's slight, then sucking mints might be helpful- the menthol cooling sensation might mask the itching sensation.

The pain will get better and your teeth are suppose to feel loose they are moving around that's why they are loose. I have braces in high school.

Sorry to hear your braces are bugging you!! I know how you feel - I had braces TWICE in my life... You could say I have the million dollar smile (I know that's what my father says after paying all those bills!!)
Anyway, yeah, you'll notice that your teeth will shift and feel loose. Unfortunately, braces are a painful experience. If you're having trouble with them rubbing against your mouth, you can get wax from your orthodontist to put over the braces as protection. You can also use Anbesol, the goop you put on baby's gums when they're teething. Advil also works sometimes.
Good luck!! You'll have a beautiful smile in the end - just keep that in mind!! :o)
I just got new braces last Thursday, and they are driving me insane. They don't really hurt, but they make my teeth and gums sort of itch, and I keep grinding my teeth to try and make the feeling go away, but it just gets worse. The dentist had to put excess enamel or glue or something on my back molars so I can't close my jaw all the way, so that the teeth can move... but man! It's really getting bad! And its only the first week!
I have one tooth that felt fine before the braces went on, but now it feels like its loose or like I could pull it out if the braces weren't there. Is that normal when you first get braces on?
