Hey there, my name is April and I just joined SP a few days ago. So far, so good.

I just wanted to share a couple of recipes with everyone that I've recently tried out. Both are from Allrecipes.com. I've tried a lot of "healthy" recipes, and some of these so-called delicious recipes leave a little more to be desired in the flavor department. These two are personally tested by me, and extremely yummy!

Chicken pasta: I recommend reading the reviews to see how others changed up the recipe. I personally added the orange bell peppers, 3 cloves of garlic, added more mushrooms, and used tri-color rotini: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chicken-Pasta

Hi all.

Since joining SP almost 3 years ago now, creating and revamping recipes to make them healthier has become sort of a hobby of mine. I've asked Santa for some recipe management software so I can get a bit more organized about this.

Hi all! I'm a 31 yr old American currently living in Europe. I cook for my husband and I and sometimes just for myself. I usually try to plan out the week's meals in advance to avoid "mishaps." ;) I have gotten out of that habit and hope to start back.

Hello everyone, my name is Claudette and I love to cook, nowadays it's more of the healthier stuff. I've been a member of sparkpeople for a year now, and I have loved every bit of it. I have chatted with and met in person some very special people. To date I have lost 43pounds emoticon I still have another 7lbs to go. Hi, I have been a member on SP for over 2 years. I haven't really worked the program or spent much time on the boards, but I have been using the nutrition and fitness trackers. My journey is a bit different than most using SP. I had Roux-en-y gastric bypass September 02, and am now able to begin adding in foods, and am learning to be creative in how I cook the limited foods I am allowed to eat.
Since I left the hospital September 4 I have lost over 55 pounds. If I want to continue on the weight loss journey I will have to cook healthy, that's why I thought I'd join this group.


But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

PALOMA71, I had the same problem. This is my first week here and I am still finding my way around. When you are adding foods, choose the "add a food not in your meal plan option" -- then type what you are looking for and hit search/enter. It took me two days (I am embarrassed to admit) to find a lot of the foods I use. I cook pretty much only from scratch and for some of the items I use I chose the "next best" choice. But I have been able to find most things after a little learning. For things I commonly use I try to remember to add them to my favorites so I don't have to keep hunting them down. I have also added in some things we buy that are not on the list so they are now easy to find.

For the english muffin, type that in, hit search and you will see different "flavors" to choose from.

I'm anxious to connect with those that cook from scratch, no salt, low fat, high fiber and creative ideas. I'm finding that many items I use are not available on the list of foods, ie: plain rice vinegar, wine vinegar, whole grain english muffins. Am I missing something in the search?

I just saw your team. I've gotten pretty good at making up healthier recipes or modifying old ones to be healthier. I've lost 27 lbs since January. I kind of fell into this journey. I didn't set out and plan to loose weight but once I "accidently" did I liked it so much I got on the express bus. I started by watching an exercise video I had not intention of doing. I couldn't just sit a watch it though becouse it looked too fun. I got up off the couch and started doing that. Next, I went on a 10 day diet which just didn't end after 10 days. Now, I've made all kinds of changes to my eating habits. I can truely say this has not been a depravation diet as much as just making simple changes to my life.

I've been doing Sparkpeople now for about 3 months and just saw your team and it looked interesting to me. I have lost to day 27 lbs. and all through exercise and diet improvement. I'm trying to eat cleaner but not as extreme as the clean eating team. I feel your diet has to fit into your life style and yes some life style changes are good now, others are just a bit extreme. My point is baby steps make this happen and we each need to figure out what is going to work for us. The funny thing is that in some ways I am way extreme. I make my own bread for example. I start by grinding my own wheat so it is more nutritional. But I have decided not to completely deplete my life of sweets so at the end of the day if I have calories left over I will treat myself to a sweet. My favorite is a carb smart reduced fat ice cream bar. I've gotten pretty good at altering recipes to be healthier. I am trying to stay away from sugar and sacharine, but do indulge just a tiny bit. With my baking, I've subbed in maple syrup, honey or pureed fruit. I'm looking forward to see alterations to recipes and other healthier recipes you may have.

Hello Everyone! I've been with SPP for about a year and was glad to see a member of this great site on the GMAShow now I feel more at ease since for a while there I thought this site was a HOAX. Its been great participating in several forums but now I've found my truly best site in sharing healthy recipes. I am a private chef and I love to share good healthy recipes. Hi! My name is Breana and i am a new member. I live in Cherry Hill, NJ. im not a picky eater but i live with one! He doesnt like fruits or veggies. his favorites are of course Pizza and Doritos.. I find myself eating healthy but then munching on the Doritos with him so in reality im eating even worse because i eat double. any ideas on how to get him to eat more healthy?? he eats canned peas and stringbeans and ive gotten him to try brussel sprouts so obviously he's experimental.


I will be where I want to be one day, but I'm the only one who can make it happen!

My life is a work in progress and eventually I will master the skill!

Here is a quick and easy one my 17 y/o daughter likes to make:
Dump Soup

1 can minestrone soup
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can baked beans (or steakhouse Bush's if you want it sweet)
1 cup frozen hash browns
1 can corn

Just heat it all up till the potatoes are cooked.

It's fast, easy and healthy. Serve with a nice whole grain bread.

Hi - just joined because I love to play around with recipes and make them healtier. I also cut all dairy out of my diet in the spring because it helps to alleviate some of the seasonal allergies that I suffer from. I just created a great, dairy-free choclate rice pudding and posted it on sparkrecipes. If anyone wants to try it, I'll post it here too.

Hi, Barbara from SC -living in NC now 35 yrs. Mother to 1 son 2 daughters all married. Have 3 grandsons (21,15,5) from 2 daughters and l 18 mo grandaugher Jenna Claire. Hope to have adopted grandchildren from son in future. Raised on farm, veg gardening for food supply,working in tobacco, cotton, corn. Hogs/chickens kept to fill up freezers. Love fishing, reading, crafts, enjoying our beach mobile home week/weekends since I've retired from sales in men dept of Belk department store.

Hello all you great recipes out there! I am a stay at home mom who's been handed down the family recipes for tater-tot casserole, meatloaf, goulash yuck :( , and great biscuits and gravy. So learning to cook healthy recipes for my family is a must. My healthy recipes consist of chicken and veggies. I need a little more variety. I hope this is the place. Easy is the key for me. Ok I already posted in the "Introduce yourself" thread yesterday. But I'll give a little more information about myself here. ;)
My name is Wendy. I love cooking, but I'm not used to cooking healthy. My husband and son are pretty picky eaters so it's a daily struggle to find recipes that all of us will eat. There are heart problems with our parents on both sides of the family. I want to be a healthier, stronger more vibrant person. With new recipes and support I'm well on my way to success with a loss of 28 lbs since I joined SP in January! I look forward to gaining knowledge as well as new recipes. :)

Hello everyone. I am so looking forward to this group. Cooking healthy is new to me and I need all the help I can get. My husband had a heart attack st Christmas and bypass surgery on the 2nd of January. Due to unknown reasons, they just don't know why, he has lost sight in his right eye and half in his left eye. He needs to eat a low sodium, low fat diet and I need to get healthy. I am way overweight and need to take off the pounds. So I am looking forward to new recipes.

If you like shrimp I can give you a recipe that goes great with wheat pasta. MAMA2002, I have a great recipe for my version of chicken quesadillas if you are interested. Hi I'm new both to the group and to Spark people...I love to cook and would consider my favorite styles to be those with either an asian, mexican, or mediterranean influence. I'm also product of the deep south so in addition to my drawl- I also have a penchant for all things "southern" especially cornbread! My favorite past time is taking a recipe and seeing what I can do to make it healthier WITHOUT giving up the look or taste inherent...if you look at my recipes you'll currently see a stong greek/persian influence in what I'm making. I tend to go in cycles with cooking genres. Check them out and see what you think..I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the great recipes you guys and gals are coming up with too!
