I can't use my broiler here. The pan disappeared before I moved in and the management won't replace it. Besides, the toaster oven will save me a lot of energy baking small things like sausage or a piece of chicken.

I love my grill pan and got it from Wal-Mart, but they have it almost anywhere. It is great. I didn't know about the toaster oven. I don't own a toaster so I toast bread under my broiler. It works great, but you have to be careful not to burn it.

I got a grill pan from my local cooking store. I happened to wander in one day and was able ot pick up a Le Cruset pan for 45% off. I HAD to get it! My only negative comment about it is that my house gets really smokey when I use it. But it doesn't stop me. I'm grilling catfish tonight! Just google them and you'll get all sorts of hits. Mine is cast iron and I totally love it.

Two healthy changes I've made in my kitchen are Pam and 1% milk.

It has high sides that contain the fat. The meat sits on the ridges and the fat drains below.

It cooks on the stovetop like any other skillet but the ridges "grill" the food. It also allows a lot more fat to drain off of meat.

Where do you buy the ridge grill skillet? Does that just sit on top of your stove? Would it work on gas?

WOW! I didn't know that about the toaster... I've been wanting a toasted oven and I think this a good reason to get one.

I have a ridge grill skillet and love it! It's probably one of my fav kitchen purchases. I almost never grill anymore. It's great for veggies, burgers, grilled meats, whatever. You don't get that smokey flavor but it's pretty darn close. I actually prefer it.

When my tax refund gets here, I'm adding a couple of things to my kitchen to help make my cooking healthier. I'm getting rid of the regular toaster and getting a toaster oven. It will save me tons in energy (did you know the regular oven wastes 95% of the energy it consumes?), and since I have no broiler, I'll be able to broil again. Also, I'll be able to toast larger items like bagels or Kaiser rolls. I'm also getting a ridged grill skillet. I've wanted one for years. Now I'll be able to make grilled and veggies without lighting charcoal!
