Mary- I have a feeling the CM method will become an ideal for us too, much like our unit studies have. LOL But here's hoping! I like the idea of meal planning. I try to think about it, but I lack the discipline to follow through. The past couple of weeks I've done better, because I've made a few soups, and we've had bean dinners. I do feel less pressured when I have a plan, but I fail to do so all too often.

I'm sorry that you are struggling with the question of high school. I hope you two can come together on a decesion. Of course, I'm with you. Not all experiences are positive, and even the positive ones can get in the way of what is really important to you. Just out of curiosity, what is your daughter's desire? You may have already told us, but I forgot.

JsChickyBaby, I have tried to utilize the CM method in the past, but feel I implemented it wrong, or did not do something right. I keep it as my I really want to school this method ideal.

Kielisza, First of all welcome to our group. Thank you for taking part in our conversations. It is always nice to get to know new friends and discuss topics appearing in their lives.

I go shopping every week. I utilize too much fresh produce to not shop as frequently as I do as a family of 6. In addition to my weekly trips, I frequently go out during the week to get additional snacks (I encourage only fresh fruits and veggies) and more milk as I keep 2 gallons in the fridge at all times and we consume between 3.5-4 gallons a week (this is with recipes, cereal, and just having it as a beverage.. it is down from a year or 2 ago when we went through close to 6 gallons a week). Speaking of which I still need to cook, shred, and store our potatoes.

I only meal plan dinners, we have a standard variety of breakfasts that we consume, and lunches are planned as leftovers of dinners. This week on my lists of things to do I am attempting to make a meal plan board, much like the one shown here 4.bp.blogspot.com/-xoEhbi6v3Io/Tbg8Z

Ali, for next year I am unsure what exactly I am going to do. I did not make it through my purchased box curriculum past week 8. I don't feel bad because I learned a couple other friends purchased the same curriculum and found it as boring/textbook reading (I can not think of a better word for it) as my family did, which does not appeal to my living and learning nature. I know that without a doubt we will continue with Math-u-see, All About Spelling, Writing strands, add in some workbooks (to practice some basic skills for the younger children like cutting and matching), and unit studies (our current one is combining the animal kingdom and geography).

There is still much debate between hubby and I as to what to do with our oldest. He holds fast to what his high school years were like and insists that everyone needs those experiences, and I hold fast to the idea that my high school experience was nothing like his and that our child will be fine without being placed back into public school... I remember how she was treated in K and 1st grade and I do not want to watch her disappear like she did then...

Today is my only son's 7th birthday. We will be making borax slime, reading, having one of his favorite meals (meatloaf!) and of course cake and ice cream for dessert. We have only purchased 3 gifts for him, and I feel kind of guilty as his sisters birthday gifts totaled a bit more of money spent. But I have a really hard time deciding what to do for him as far as gifts because all he asks for is to live in an area where he can have friends (I wish we had a neighborhood with more children that go outside)

In addition to everything else. Our week vacation recently was the interview for the position he is applying for today. Does it mean anything that they interviewed him before they posted the job position? I can only hope that the move actually happens this time. I really want to join in with the coop that asked us to visit them while we were visiting the area.

mom to 4 beautiful children that deserve a healthy and active mother

My sister-in-law challenged us to get on a two week grocery shopping schedule. With a mid-sized family (5) weekly shopping is okay, but bi-monthly would be better if I can just get a meal schedule together...

I'm using Math-U-See next year again. I found a former home-schooling family with the first 4 or 5 levels they will let us use before selling them. Totally a God-thing. For everything else I really enjoy unit studies especially because my kids are primary grades. Tried KONOS this year, but it was so much work getting the unit studies together. I might come back to it down the road when I'm a veteran! In the meantime, I found this site that seems worth exploring http://www.squidoo.com/fun-hands-on-unit-s
tudies. They have three years worth of unit studies there. I'm still trying to get over my school brain so my kids can actually get an education!

Getting healthy is like getting through boot camp. It's a lot of hard work, and some days you want to quit. But when graduation day arrives, memories of pain and trouble pale in the light of the pride and accomplishment you feel. You made it! You didn't quit.

Everyone seems to be very busy. Hope you all are taking the time to enjoy the small moments in life. emoticon

We had to visit another homeschool mom that ended up in the hospital with many issues. She has pneumonia and 5 other infections. I think maybe she just kept going too long without taking care of herself. We then went to a funeral the next day. Not expected, but understood as he had been in declining health and we were not aware of that. Makes you think.

Would love to hear what you all are up to. Anyone already know what they are doing next year?

KIELISZA - Praying about this situation and you are so right, Satan in all in the gray direction we seem to be letting things go. We all need to stand up.

Mary - you go girl with all that fresh produce. Good for you. I do this every other week. It works great for us.

Dawn - How are you?

Praying for all,
Blessings,

We just started attending a new church with a significant % of homeschoolers. I was so excited to have the support as our last church had next to no families with children. Now our public school district is starting a charter school for "homeschool" families to increase revenue for the district. These families I was looking to for a support network are now putting the pressure on for us to join the charter school as the advisory board will have several representatives from our congregation. I fear for the future of homeschooling and, though the charter school will allow for "religious content", I fear too for the freedom to bring up my children in the way of the Lord. Satan, it seems, takes one grain of sand at a time until one day we wake up and realize the whole mountain has been moved. Poor metaphor, but I'm sure you get it.

Went grocery shopping last night and half of the cart was fresh produce. I have spent the morning chopping strawberries (2 clam shells), bell peppers(12 of them!), onions (3 lbs), carrots (about 1.5 lbs) and chicken (for our lunch). I now have a beef stew simmering on the stove.... But I know I still have about 4 lbs of carrots, 10 lbs of potatoes, and another 3 lbs of onions to prepare to be frozen. Today is one of those I feel better than I have in a while days. I wish I had a formula for what makes them happen.

Now I guess I should do some laundry and get hubby's clothes ironed for the week. Trying my best to get back in sync with my flylady daily routines.... What is everyone else doing on this wonderful day?

Ali- I'm glad yoiu had a nice weekend. I hope your daughter wasn't too discouraged. Hopefully she could see her accomplishment for what it was. And your ds...bless his heart.

Thank you for all the encouragement. I didn't take offense to it. I know we have all had our struggles, and dealings with nay-sayers. This last round bothered me a little bit, (since I shared with you), but not on the homeschooling issue. It's more of a feeling of isolation. We're 2000 miles from our family, (not that they understand hs either), and our closest friends. We talk about how the people here are supposed to be closer than fleshly family, but the reality is that they're not. Sometimes I just feel frustrated with it.

I've been re-energized about our HS-ing. I'm starting to make preparations for next year, and getting quite excited. Does anyone do the Charlotte Mason method? I've been researching it, and plan to use it next year. The history/bible plan is the most refreshing. I look forward for any advice or input.

I'm glad you had a nice family weekend. It must have been refreshing for daughter after all of her work leading up to the Lit Fair.

Prayers will continue for your grandmother and for your son. I can not imagine what he has gone through in the last year.

This week I am working at getting the kids used to doing school again. It is amazing how they want to stop all together if you give them a week off. So I am trying to be understanding by giving them "fun activities to ease them back into working. The girls are working on skirts as well as reading and math, but the boy has been given a new computer game that works on reading skills, a new colorful workbook, and is working his math like a champ. One day I may have to teach him and I am not sure I will be on level with his abilities! The youngest wants to do what everyone else is doing, but I just want her to be a little one a bit longer.

I just recently started collecting things on pinterest. If you use the site, let me know if I can follow you. I am trying to find more interactive ways to approach topics to get my son interested in having me teach him. and I seem to be gathering food ideas as well as clothing tutorials.

Anyways, I am off this morning to work on son's birthday quilt. I have it all cut out but need to get the pieces together. His birthday is only days away so I want it to be mostly done by then.

Morning Friends,

We had a nice long weekend away. The Boy Scouts had a deep sea fishing trip in Florida so we made a family trip out if it. This turned out great considering the fishing trip got cancelled due to the wind. This gave us some extra family time and a day with friends.

My grandmother is still in the hospital being evaluated. My dd did not place at the Lit. Fair, but everyone said she did a great job and could not understand what she didn't do. The judges only had one negative comment and that was on the font she used for her title on her tri-fold.

We have decided to take my ds back to laser therapy. Please just pray for our wisdom and direction for my ds healing. My ds severed his elbow and broke his wrist a year ago.

Hope you all are having a great week. Sorry if I seemed hard on you all with people coming at you for homeschooling. I totally support you and get it. I have endured it also.

How is everyone doing?

Blessings,
Ali

Dawn, J'sChicky, I know it can be hard. Right now I am having similar discussions with hubby as we decide on next years curriculum. He wants oldest in public school, and I still want her home. I do my best to be a good wife and allow him to follow his decisions. I just worry about the why he wants the decision, know what I mean?

Ali, do they have a hypothesis as to why the range of motion is limited? How did your dd do at the lit fair?

As for me, I'm home and we are recovering from vacation. We had a great time visiting another state. I can only ask right now that you pray again for my FIL. Hubby said he got a phone call that concerned him, and that we should return the call tonight to put our facts in order and get God's guidance as to the path ahead.

Morning Ladies,

Ephesians 3:16-20

New King James Version (NKJV)

16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and heightó 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

I know those verses may not fit exactly, but I always think about how God equips me for all that I do and He is the one that gave me this ministry and it is a ministry.

Sorry Dawn and JSCHICKYBABE you are going through this right now. It is just a season with Satan working hard on one of your ministries.

Hey if you all will pray for my ds, he had a dr appointment yesterday and they said they had done all they could for him and he still does not have full range of motion in his wrist or elbow and for dd, she has the Lit Fair today and really wants to win. This was her choice and she really worked hard.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Dawn, I'm sorry that you had that thrown at you. I'm not sure that anybody has questioned our qualifications, but I know that my husband has told people that I went to college with teaching as a goal. Our oldest was born before I graduated though, and although I finished my last semester, (the most difficult thing I ever had to do) I've never gone to work. I did get questioned about our dd though. We don't plan to send her to college, but plan to prepare her to be a wife and mother, capable of nurturing and bringing up her own godly offspring. I was asked "Doesn't she want to be able to teach her children?" Like college really has anything to do with that! I know first hand that it doesn't. Anyway, keep your head up. I agree- we're doing what God had planned from the beginning. And if people refuse to embrace it, it's on them.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know in my case, it was a lash-out due to self-guilt. But again, it's on them. They can make adjustments if they so desire. I know that I have nothing to apologize for, and I won't back down. "I homeschool my kids because I love them, and want to spend time with them."

Oh boy can I relate. Just this morning my dad and I had a convo about homeschooling. He called and my dd answered and talked to him for a few. I guess he asked, "What are yall doing today?" And my daughter answered by telling him we have a school day planned for today.

Well, then I get on the phone and here is part of our convo:

My dad: "Well, enjoy your day of schoolin'. I guess you don't really have to do much teaching. Isn't she just going to school online?"

Me: "Nope. I am teaching her this year. But, we are going to back to doing the online thing next year. She likes that better."

My dad: "She doesn't like having mom teach huh? HaHaHa" (said jokingly)

Me: "I guess not. Can't imagine why." (again...said jokingly)

Here is the part I was bothered by.....

My dad: "Maybe it is because you aren't a qualified teacher."

UGH! Are you serious!!! Do we really have to go there again!?! That is what I thought...not what I said. But I was very upset. I don't really understand why people feel like me homeschooling is even any of their business. But, I can honestly say that so far I have not had any hurtful comments from those that support homeschooling (my dad does not...obviously...LOL). But, it wouldn't surprize me. I just remind myself that I know what I am doing is what God wants me to do and it doesn't matter what others think. It can be hurtful but that is just another stripe for Christ! We can do this!

Be blessed,
Dawn

Evening Friends,

Hey pray for my dd, she is not quite done with her Lit project. She has poured her heart into it and as a mom I would love to see her win.

Dawn - praying for your dd dad. Do not lose hope, all things are possible for God, my friend.

JCHICKY - I understand your frustration. I think we all get tired of the "why do you homeschool" I usually just tell me God called me and it is my ministry right now. I believe this and it is hard for people to say much about that.

Praying for all.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

I know this doesn't have anything to do with what the rest of you have shared, so I guess I'm being selfish, but I have to get this off my chest, so to speak. I don't understand how people can get so upset about homeschooling. My husband and I have talked, and I know it is often due to a sense of guilt, but that doesn't excuse getting upset with us. Yesterday, my husband made a brief comment regarding homeschooling. He said that when he's asked about why we homeschool, the easy answer is "to get away from the public schools". He then went on to explain that it's just as easy to epress that God gave us the responsibility and ability to teach our children right from wrong, and other important life lessons, that supercede ABC's and math. So we should grasp hold of the opportunity to be a witness in those situations. That was fine.

The problem was later, when I told him that I was chuckling to myself during his comment. I told him that I don't homeschool because of public schools. I homeschool for the same reason I'm a SAH Mom. I love being around my kids and don't like being away from them. That's when the trouble came. I said this to him, but in front of 3 other women. They all agree with homeschooling. One works while her husband homeschools, the other's son is working and studying for his GED, and they took him out of PS 2 years ago, and the 3rd is elder, whose kids are grown. One made the remark "Oh, I thought you homeschool because you're a control freak who wants to be in control of everything your kids are doing." I just grinned and said, "No, I'm just selfish, and want them around me." The elder woman questioned, "So does that mean I wasn't good, because I didn't homeschool? But there's no way I could have taught them." Again I smiled and tried to assure her "Absolutely not," and told her that's what teacher's books are for. Then I walked away. I guess I'm still amazed at the remarks made by people who claim to be God's people, and I just couldn't believe this response from people who support homeschooling.

Today's a new day, and I'm enjoying my children, and we're doing what we do. Hope you all have a lovely day.

Well, we are excited to try it....my dd more so than myself. She wants a program that she can do without me :( Little does she know that I will still be involved ALOT...I can't help myself...LOL. But seriously, she has friends that get up really early and get started on their work before their parents even get up...LOL! She wants to be able to do that. This BJU is supposed to be student led so she should be able to do that....though I think her early rising with only last a week or so :) We shall see....

Please keep my dd's father in your prayers guys. I am going today to pick him up at detox and drop him at a half-way house. He is an alcoholic and is trying to clean up. This is not his first time trying to get cleaned up so it is hard for me to be hopeful but I am praying about it. I would love more than anything for him to get cleaned up and get his life in order. His daughter needs him, ya know. She is getting older and the older she gets the more she realizes how he is NOT around :( So, I hope that can change for them both. Not to mention...I have selfish reasons for wanting him to get straight. I mean, I can't even imagine how great it would be to have a husband that loves me and his child more than that stinking bottle. And no...we are not married. I was not saved until after I had my daughter. But, a girl can hope! :)

Hope everyone has a super blessed day!

Evening Friends,

Thanks for the prayers for my dd. We are slowly getting this done and she is really working hard. I would truly like to see her win or place. Just being a mom.

Dawn, I so love hearing from you again. We use a good bit of BJU, but have not done online. I have friends that do and really like it. The only negative I heard was about the test. They as with the test many programs, can tend to over test. You know too many questions on irrelevant stuff. I have a friend doing the 8th grade science this year that says without the online stuff she would not be able to do it.

Praying for you Mary.

Blessings,

Ali, I will be praying that you daughter does well at the Lit fair.

Has anyone used the online program from Bob Jones? Being in school full time makes homeschooling my dd difficult at times. I was looking at using an online program next year so she can do more of her school idependantly. She will be in the 7th grade so I think she is old enough but I am still nervous about doing it.

Be blessed, Dawn

Morning Friends,

Dropped by to check in and after reading the post, I see we are all feeling the weather and having different issues.

Heidi, great job for your son.

Dawn, praying for your dd dads.

My dd has convergence insufficiency so reading and writing have always been hard for her. She really wanted to do the Literature Fair. I want this to be a good experience for her and not tear her down or make her feel dumb. She does not feel very bright as it is. She wanted to do this, but now she says "I'm just not very smart."
The Lit Fair is Friday February 17th. She has her book report done, she is in process of building her clock, she has a rough draft of her research paper on clocks, her log book is done and she is laying out her tri-fold today after she finishes her clock. We have a lot of lose ends, which drives me crazy. We have a goal of having it all done by Monday so she can just polish it up. Please pray for her. I would love to see her win with all the work she has put into it.

Praying for all and appreciating any prayers,

Good morning! Today is going to be a good day! I have been sick with a cold...still am really...but I feel better this morning than I did yesterday. Trying to decide if I want to work out today or just take one more day to get to feeling a little better.

It has been hard getting school work done with everything I have had going on but things seem to be slowing down, which is good. My dd's father is trying to get clean. He is in detox right now and headed to a half way house afterward. We are really praying for him. I do wish that he would put the bottle down for good so that we can be a family. I just have to remind myself that God is in control.

Well, today I am going to make a real effort to get in an entire day of school. I don't think that has happened since the beginning of last week :)

And yes, I agree....this weather we are having is crazy beautiful. The only problem is that my allergies are flaring up earlier than the usually do. But, that is okay...it is worth it to have such pretty days.

Be blessed,
Dawn

The pleasant weather is making it difficult for ME to stay indoors and do schoolwork. LOL
We do manage to get it done though, and in the afternoon, we head outdoors and ride scooters up and down the street. My dd bought one for herself with her Christmas money, and after trying it out one day, I told the kids that I wanted one for my birthday. My husband didn't believe them, and everybody else they told thought I wanted a motorized one. What fun would that be!? So I got one, then my ds bought one, and now we all ride together. It helps get me outdoors, and is more fun than walking up and down the street. And the best part?...I have found that it really works the thigh and glutes...(ouch)

Some of you have peaked my curiosity about Charlotte Mason, so I will have to research this out.

emoticon Hi everybody!

boy, our unusually good weather this winter has it's ups and downs. Ups-no winter slump and more sunshine for better moods. Downs- hard to keep son inside and doing schoolwork! LOL He turns 15 next Sunday and he just wants to be outside working on engines. And I just want to start planting stuff. LOL

My co-op class on writing is going well. I've been very proud of my son and how he is rising to the challenge, overcoming his dyslexia and dysgraphia to get his assignments done.

Blessings,
Heidi

Good morning everyone! I am about to do my Bible reading for the moring, then I am headed out to Curves! I love working out there...it is so much fun. So many nice ladies and fun music. Lots of laughs! But....I am NOT going to weigh myself. I used to weigh only once a week, till I started at Curves. I have been weighing myself every time I go in there and it has become kinda an obsession. Gotta get away from that and only weigh in at my WW meetings on Thursday night.

Be blessed,

Mary - Sounds like you have some fun things planned for the next couple weeks. ENJOY!

Jenny - That sounds like so much fun! I know the kids will love it!

I had a pretty good day today. It was very relaxing. We did a whole school day but it got done in record time and dinner what cooked and ready by 5pm. I didn't know what to do with all my extra time this evening....so I did nothing....LOL!

Have a blessed night ladies!

I'm hosting a Shakespeare Faire tonight to honor my students. It should be a lot of fun!! They get to dress up as kings and queens (because they read, watched, or listened to 17 or more Shakespeare plays) and they'll be served by the groveling peasants. I have to put together my best peasant costume because they really love getting to "boss" us around for one evening. We'll have a coronation and present all the kings and queens to the parents. Then we'll have a few students share examples of the assignments they've worked on this semester. And we'll end the night with a short play put on by our older students. They are performing a work based on Romeo & Juliet! The best part of the night is that are entire feast must be eaten without a fork. Elizabethans didn't have forks!

Mary--It sounds like you have a fabulous weekend and week ahead!! Happy Birthday to your baby!!

Dawn--I've checked out www.simplycharlottemason.com before, but I didn't know that Sonya Shafer had also written books. I'll have to check them out! Thanks!

Friday before my youngest turns 4.... this weekend and next will be interesting. This sunday we celebrate our 4 yo. Next weekend I drive several hours away to a friends house to celebrate her 4 yo, then Sunday we are hosting friends at our house for the superbowl. On top of all of this I get to go to a seminar by Kirk Martin releasing new content from his celebrate calm parenting series on Tues day night ~ a night out with some other adults without my kids.... I love the way this upcoming week looks. Today the plan is to finish up school then work on having the house in order for the Superbowl :) with final touch ups happening next Friday

Whew...another LONG day. But, a great day it was. I weighed in tonight at weight watchers and lost another 1.4lbs. YAY! Super excited about it. I am really enjoying Weight Watchers. I was going to quit the meetings because it costs so much but I think will stick wtih it. I do much better when am accountable at the meetings.

Be blessed,

Mary--You don't have to do everything for this team by yourself. Even just posting regularly is helpful!! Maybe you could ask for ideas for a new challenge when this current one ends.

Dawn--Welcome back!! I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandmother. But I think it's wonderful that you have been so helpful with your family during this time even if your grades suffered! I'll pray that you can get your financial aid back. I really like the Charlotte Mason philosophy too. I'm so glad it's working well for you!

Ali--Hope everything works out for your church finding a new location!

Dawn & Ali--Best wishes with WW!! I have never tried it, but I have heard great things about it from others.

Heidi--I'm spark mailing you about your son! I'm not sure that anything I have to say will help, but having 3 dyslexic kids, we do struggle with things too! So just know you are not alone in those struggles!!

I'm sorry I am not being a good leader or friend on here currently. I'm feeling out of ideas to keep people coming back and posting. Keeping the team looking alive. I do read on here but feel like I am trying to trim time while paying attention to my kids.

Heidi I saw your blog and have been praying for you. I sent you a message in regards to your struggles and I hope it helps. I am having similar struggles with my 13 yo (dyslexic) daughter as she starts going thru the changes that come with teenage times.

Dawn & Ali, I wish you luck with weight watchers. I personally don't think I can do it... but it is not something I can rule out yet.

Hi everybody!
I could really use some prayer.
Our son is just about to turn 15 and he and I are really struggling to have a pleasant homeschool day together. We've always been close since we've worked as a team on his schoolwork because of his dyslexia. I can see he's pulling away (which I totally understand as he goes through the teen years) but it's all the emotional swings, attitudes, high frustration levels and quick anger and my needing to change from team leader to hard-nosed mom of a 15yo teen boy.

Anybody else in the same boat or recently gone through this?

Blessings,
Heidi

Thanks for asking! Our school year is going great. We have been using the Charlotte Mason method and we love it! It took us a long time to really find something that fit for us and this is it.

Now, that is my daughter's school year. Mine not so good. My financial aid has been suspended because of grades. My grandmother passed last semester and I spent alot of time with her in her last days and was with her when she died. Then have been there alot helping out with cleaning out her house and things like that. None of it left time for school. Soooooooo, I got some F's for the first time in my entire school career :( I put in an appeal for my financial aid so I am hoping I can get it back. If I can't I will have to go to work :( How will I homeschool if I have to work...UGH! So, please keep the situation in your prayers. I know that God is in control.

How has your school year been going?

Be blessed,
Dawn

Evening,

Hope everyone has had a blessed weekend with family and friends. Our little church had it's last service for a while in the building we have been going to. We will be leasing a building from another church soon. Pray for us and that my family is where it is suppose to be.

Dawn - you are right WW is easier. I had been trying to keep points and do this before and not doing a great job. I am a long time fan of WW. How is your school year going?

Blessings,
Ali

I used SP totally for some time but then learned about WW and it is way easier to me to do WW. Now that I have all the information I am using a three month paper trakcer to count my points. You can get all you need to do WW on Amazon.com. That is where I will be getting my trackers and stuff now that I am not going to be online or going to meetings. I love WW so I am going to continue that way. I did SP for awhile but it was to hard for me. Points are way easier.

It is good to be back on here though with the forums and stuff. I also love love love all the info on SP. It is sooooo great to be back!

Afternoon,

How are you all? I really do not know much or understand much about the facebook stuff. I am not a team leader either though. Are the powers that be at SP aware of concerns?

Dawn - Welcome back. I have missed you. I am using sp more and more. I did not use the nutrition pages much before, but I am now. It counts calories and kinda helps the same way as WW. I know WW is easier with the points, but this is much more economical.
Have you looked at these?

Hello everyone! I know I know...I went MIA again. I was cheating on sparkpeople with the weight watchers website...LOL! But..I decided there is something that I really like better about sparkpeople....it is free.....LOL!

So, how is everyone? What is the facebook thing I am hearing about? I haven't been on sparkpeople in a long time. I think I missed something. I don't even have a facebook though so it really shouldn't affect me I wouldn't think. I had a facebook for some time but I deleted it due to some security issues. I just don't like the way facebook is handled. To many changes so I got rid of it. My daughter still uses it but I keep a VERY close eye on her account.

So, how is the New Year going with everyone? My dd and I have really been enjoying it. It is good to be back in school full force. We had co op last week for the first time this semester and it was nice.

Well, I look forward to catching up with everyone!

Be blessed,

Mary this makes me feel so sad! I have really appreciated the leadership you have been bringing to this team! I don't think you should worry about being seen as standoffish at all. People can request to be your friend and if they have been active and you know them, then you can choose to accept their request.

I totally support whatever decision you make because I know being a team leader takes time and commitment. But I just wanted you to know how grateful I've been for your leadership. It really did help me over the holidays especially!

They have, for now, removed the feature. My page is now set to friends only, which I feel impedes my ability to be a leader for the team. It makes me feel as tho I am standoffish. I realize that previously people could have just linked back to my page, but I just felt the button to share it imposed on my privacy on a completely different level. It was encouraging people to share my journey...

At any rate I feel inclined to step down from the leadership position. I had only stepped up originally so that we could get rid of the "inactive team leader" message. I think Kim occasionally checks in now....

Hey Drawnthisway,

You can make your sparkpage private and ask your friends not to re-post your entries. I haven't heard about this new thing with FB. Guess you could make sure that your fb account is not connected to your Spark people account.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with all things Spark. I won't be posting here real often. Was gone all this past week and working hard to get ready to get my boys started on their second semester of school work.

Take care!

Anyone else annoyed with the fact that sparkpeople now can allow your blogs to be shared on Facebook without your permission. If I make a blog publicly here it is publicly here for my weight journey friends... There is a reason why my friends form facebook and my friends here are not necessarily the same people. Some of the people on facebook are the type to undermine efforts in this realm and I just don't need it spread all over there.

I think there is a way to limit the damage to this www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=4678615#cR>omments
BUT that still does not stop people from grabbing your post link and posting it on other forums.... It kind of ruins the level of support I once felt here....

I'm going to try. I need to run to the fabric store to get some more fabric to attempt it. Most of my fabric stash is girl... so this is a different challenge to endure....I already cut some pieces and have decided I didn't like how some of it cut up (lots of pieces without any spiderman on them at all because the fabric has a larger print on it.

I'm not much of a morning person, but I do feel like I can accomplish so much more when I do have an earlier start. Weird...I should change that. LOL

Once I do get started, we enjoy getting our work done in the morning. If we have to finish in the afternoon, then I start felling rushed with cleaning and dinner...

I tell my kids that my favorite time of day is their bedtime. emoticon

Mary- I think you should try that quilt. Even if your son sees it, he will be interested and excited to see the completed work. Plus, that you made it for him...he will treasure it.

I'm thinking of attempting a quilt for my son's birthday. I have a bunch of spider-man fabric and I could easily pick up some solids to intermix with it. I've never attempted a bed size quilt before. He would definitely see it when I work on it... so it may ruin the surprise... but I'm curious as to what you all think of the idea... Should I attempt such a thing?
