Morning,

Well we have another rainy day in GA. I made it through brunch yesterday and the 1st night of my dd play. I am so looking forward to resting tomorrow.

My dd is in our local homeschool drama club and their end of year production is this weekend. They presented "You Can't Take It With You". My dd was blessed to have one of the leads. What a day yesterday was.

We are behind in school with all of this. how are you all doing?

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Morning.

Hope you all are having a blessed week. I feel like I am just running. We finally have sunshine this week so I have been able to enjoy some time outdoors. Its been great. I do understand getting back into a routine, schooling and exercising again. I do not feel like we have kept a routine this year. We have to get it together or we will school all summer.

My dd play is this weekend so that has kept me busy all week. I also invited some friends over for Friday for a going a way brunch for another friend. Pray for me. I am in a situation where a couple of these ladies tend to stress me. I am not sure why I did this.

Hope you all are seeing sunshine, We were getting tired of the rain.

Happy Thursday,
Blessings, emoticon

Happy Wednesday!

I'm trying to get back on track. I feel so out of shape. I"m starting very, umm, well like I've been a couch potato and just getting started. I have a walking plan from Mayo clinic that I'm following. I'm sure I can do the speed they recommend but it will be a good starting point. Plus I'm throwing in some pilates/yoga type stuff. Slow and steady

I hope that hip pain can be resolved quickly! It's no fun to be in pain!

I also have left my goals in the DUST. I need to take them out and dust them off and get back on track. Not today. . . except for the fact that I finally feel like I'm not constantly sleep deprived. My folks came for Easter, then we took a road trip the next weekend. Just today I feel like I've finally caught up on laundry, and we did a full school day (including piano) for the first time in WEEKS!!! It was a great break, but we really do have to do school if I claim to homeschool. Maybe tomorrow I can throw some exercise back into the routine. The only thing counterindicating the chance of that is the fact that the kids are ready for me to start pulling out the summer clothes. AAAGGHHH!! It's that time of year again, and I'm Not Ready!! But fun, anyway!

Good Morning!

I had a very busy Easter week and feel like I am just now getting back into a routine. I left my health and exercise goals in the dust. I have been having hip pain and was diagnosed with bursitis so I have been fitting in physical therapy and home treatment. That has pretty much taken up any time I might have had for other exercise! My neice is coming to stay with us for her school vacation this week so some of us are going to have some time off from school. My oldest son has a major exam for a college course and is taking his SATs again on Saturday so he will be studying extra.

I am ready for summer break!

Blessings,
Valerie

Morning,

Wow, it has been a while again. We have been so busy, trying to help my ds, prom for my ds and dd, and my dd getting ready for the drama club play. Fun, but busy times. We have had rain for over 7 days, we need some sunshine!

Yes, 2BTHINMAMMA, we have many of those days. The rain does not help us. My ds has rocky mountain spotted fever and has not tested positive for lymes, but has all the symptoms

Thanks for the suggestion of coconut oil, we do use it.

Does anyone school year round?

Hope you all have a blessed Sunday,
Ali emoticon

Had one of those days where the boy doesn't seem to remember how to do ANYTHING. emoticon Do you all have those days? What do you do? I had him get up and move (it's raining today otherwise he would have been running laps around the house or riding his bike). Once we switched gears and did an art project. He gets so frustrated that his brain just shuts off I think! He eventually got it. Although he's still working on his outline for a paper so...we'll see! emoticon

Our art project was kinda cool and kids really enjoy them...flextangles! Fun to play with, too! babbledabbledo.com/paper-toys-flexta

Ali, so sorry your son's improvement didn't stick! It must be so frustrating for him and you. I happened to think of something a friend told me about it's a derivative of coconut oil. She said that it helps to inactivate harmful bacteria, viruses, and funguses and flush them from the system. She mentioned that a man from our church was taking it for Lymes. I'm not saying it will work or help or anything. It just came to mind and thought I'd share so that you could look into it if you wanted to do so.

Morning.

Well it is spring, but we have not seen much sun. We are definitely getting April showers. I love to be outside and seem to walk more so I am looking forward to sunshine.

We have tested with our homeschool group for the most part. The only time we did not we went through BJU. but I think they have changed theirs so that you have to have it proctored. I have a friend that tested her children every year and tested them a grade a head to see what they needed the most work in. Example if your child is currently doing 3rd grade work she would test them as if they were a 4th grader.

Thank you for the prayers for my ds. This week we are back to where we were. The improvement seems to be gone. I am asking for prayer again. We would appreciate any and all prayers.

Hope you all have a great day.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Good Morning!

We do the California Acheivement Test (CAT) on paper or on the computer through Christin Liberty. It is not too long and inexpensive and can be administered by anyone at home. Many of my friends favor the IOWA and the STANFORD.

We need a test every year so I looked for the quickest, least expensive option.

Ali, will be praying for your ds, you and the doctors. Praise the Lord for some improvement w/the brain fog...hope it continues! Wow 4 years...that's a long time!

We had some rain yesterday and the most beautiful sky w/a rainbow at sunset. Back down to freezing this morning but at least the sun is out. emoticon My ds has to take a standardized test this year and I'm struggling to choose the test. He wants to do the paper version as he struggles w/reading on the computer for long periods of time. Do you all have any suggestions?

Have a great day!

Good Sunday Morning.

Praying you all are having a blessed Sunday. We are back to being cold again. GA weather is just that way, 70 one day and 40 the next.

We had a good week with some improvement in my ds. Please pray this continues. My ds has been sick for 4 years and the last 2 have been the hardest. Not sure how much I have shared on this team, but he had an accident and broke his wrist, severed his elbow, had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, parasites and some other issues due to a tick bite. All of these caused some other things. Sorry if I am repeating things.

All of that has caused great fatigue and brain fog for my ds. Last week he finally felt some of the brain fog leaving. This is the 1st light we have seen in over a year.

Did not mean to be a Debbie downer, just wanted to share.

We appreciate any and all prayers.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Morning,

Hope you all have a blessed Sunday. How Spring where you are? We are warmer but overcast and rainy, very little sun.

Yes, the lights for SADS can be expensive, but we are desperate. My ds has been sick for about 4 years and in the last year are so the brain fog is getting worse. Prayers appreciated.

Wow, Marlene, homeschool for 30 years. what an awesome thing. Enjoy your next season. What a great thing that your children are continuing.

Have a great day all.

I just wanted to stop in and let you all know that I will be leaving the team. My time as a homeschooler is coming to an end, and I will be travelling back to the States, and when we are on the road, I have a hard time keeping up.
I have appreciated you ladies. Keep up the good work with homeschooling your children. I have homeschooled for nearly 30 years and am thankful that we were able to do this. I am also thankful that my own children are schooling their children. So, time for me to pass the baton and look for God's path for my new phase of life.
Blessings!

In CHRIST I can!

We had an tease of spring on Monday and it was wonderful! Yesterday we had rain so that made the yard quite yucky. After this week we will go on break which will be nice.

The Peru decision sounds like it was for the best.

We had SADs around here and I have thought about one of those lights but they are expensive. It's nice to here that they help at least.

Morning,

We are having much better weather this week. Well, it is warmer, we are suppose to even be in the 70's, however it is overcast and rainy. Still not fun to be outside. We just need some sunshine!

The light seems to be helping. My ds is also taking vitamin D. We are very prayerful we can get caught up with everything and that everyone will be healed. My ds seems to be able to do a couple of subjects a day is all right now. Please pray for both of my children. My dh had both of them scheduled to take the SAT this weekend. I am thinking about seeing if I can change this.

Our Bible Study group is doing a Ken Ham study right now. but last week we took a break from that and looked at a Chuck Missler. Have you ever heard of him? The video moved very fast but was loaded with info. Some of the kids found it hard to listen to.

VALERX, sounds like the decision for the Peru trip is the best one. It appears you all have peace about this. I understand about the driving thing. My ds has been driving for a year, we wish he could get a job. His health just want allow that right now.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Ali, I am in NH. SADS is a common thing up here in the north. It almost always goes along with a vitamin D deficeincy. The most pleasant thing for me about getting outside for any length of time is to feel some sunshine on my skin. We had gotten into the 40's the other day but it had plunged back to well below freezing. Come on spring!

We decided that my daughter could go to Peru but not until the next trip in June 2016. She was in the depths of despair about our decision for about an hour and a half and then picked herself up and began to plan some local missionary work this summer and brainstorm about fundraising for next year. She is one a roll!

Since my son got his license on Monday he has been mobile. He must feel good. He is going to a friend's youth group and staying for the night and for another event tomorrow. It will be strange just to see him take the car and be gone for acouple of days.New frontiers!

Morning,

Our weather here in GA is as weird as always 35 yesterday, 70+ the day before. Today 50-60, partly cloudy. This weekend should be about the same and Saturday we should get some sunshine.

The weather has not helped my ds. We bought him one of this lights that are like day light to help him. It seems to be helping. He was diagnosed with SADs. I just do not get all of this and I feel like I am always saying something about his health. This is something you would have to live to believe. Praying for God to show us what to do. I know God will use this somehow.

Everyone did have a good time Saturday night. My ds and his buddy over did it and now they both feel bad. They moved my ds aquarium. It is 125 gallons and had leaked some so there was some mold underneath.

VALERX, wow you have a lot going on. Awesome for your ds, license and a job! What did you all decide about the mission trip? We are also preparing for the SAT March 14th and from the way you describe the weather I do not think we are in the same area. We are in GA.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Blessings,

Ali, I hope that you had fun with your boy!

It got up to 40 degrees today here for the first time in 44 days. I took a walk on our messy roads (it snowed last night). It felt so good to be outside!

My 15 year old dd is begging to go on a mission trip to Peru with Global Expeditions. We have to decide in the next 24 hours. It is a tough one.

I was so pleased that my son got his license and a job all in 24 hours. Now for the SAT next saturday...

Evening Friends,

How did everyone do last week with the weather? We really just got cold and wet. North of us did get some snow, but we got nothing.

My dd and dh are at a father/daughter event tonight so it is just me and my ds. I am waiting to see what he wants. There are a few other mother/sons available so I think they are planing a dinner out for us. I am just looking forward to spending some time with my ds.

Hope you all are having a fun Saturday.

Blessings,

Morning Friends,

We had a great week at Teenpact. We are looking forward to rest today. It is just cold here. We do not get snow much, we just get dreary cold weather.

Here is some info on Teenpact:

TeenPact Leadership Schools State Classes
teenpact.com/programs/state-classes Cached
TeenPact trains young people to be leaders who will impact the nation and world for Jesus Christ. This is a comprehensive leadership experience that challenges ...

I know here if you do 2 Teenpacts, you have your Government requirements completed.

I now have to get back to me again.

Hope you all have a blessed weekend.

Oh, I hate those random food allergy things! Sympathy for you and the mango situation!

It's the first I've heard of TeenPact. I'll definitely look into it with all the rave reviews here.

I hope everyone has a great week. Don't forget to listen for what God is asking you to do. . . because it might not be what you would expect, but it will be good!

Morning Friends,

I know I am missing a lot, just very emotional and busy. I think I said before I just felt like hibernating. The weather is making that very easy. The hibernating and spending time with the Lord is helping.

My ds appears to have some improvement and we are still searching for answers for my dd. My dd agreed to see the naturalpath. We seem to have a plan now. My dd did not want to see the naturalpath because a NP had told my dd it was her diet. We all knew it was not, but dd was afraid the naturalpath might say the same.

Yes, I think Teenpact is worth it. We have great children in the program here in GA. They dress modestly and have that influence since they are all dressed that way. They learn a great deal hands on. The work is hard and it is challenging. My dd just finished 2 essays that had to be a minimum of 500 words, plus some other homework. The good news is after completing 2 Teenpacts, your child has the government requirement fulfilled. We will go to Teenpact Monday. We go to the camp. Anyone else doing the camp? This is so much easier then driving back and forth. The children enjoy a great bond.

Hope you all have a blessed Valentines.

Oh your poor dd! What are the odds of her bag having a mango???

We have snow showers in the forecast for the next few days but nothing major. Or so they say. It's going to get very cold too. I don't like the cold.

This week has had it's bumps but we are going with them and moving on. I'm working on getting things printed out for the kids as we speak.

Yup! Everthing is canceled again today. My husband has been gone all morning with the shovel.

It took me over an hour to do the SAT sign-up. Why do they make it so complicated?

We have having a good school day except for my 8 year old who is struggling with another allergic reaction. Monthes ago I mentioned that she had an outrageous week long allergic reaction after eating a mango. On Friday we went to a 4-H food event and there was a game where kids could stick their hands in a paper bag and guess what food item was inside. My 8 year old stuck her poor little hand inside a bag with a mango. She didn't think that touching it would hurt her so she didn't wash her hands right away. Now she has a very irritating rash on her face and chest. No where near as bad as last time but it drives her crazy even while on benadryl. I'll call the doctor again once the snow is over to check in about it.

Let us know how the planning goes. I need to do some planning with my junior this month. I am signing him up for the SAT and subject tests today.

My big goal for today is to clean bedrooms and get laundry done (after basketball games). We have another blizzard in the forecast for Monday. This time I will have to resuffle some of the things on our schedule. I don't think I can manage anymore cancellations on certain items.

So I slacked in January. We got the main subjects done but with minimal work if you know what I mean. I need to do better for this month. I have mapped out the rest of the year which means it probably time to start planning for next year, especially my oldest. He will be in 10th next years.

Ali, I am considering doing teenpact in our state this April. Do you recommend it?

We are in the midst of another blizzard. The snow is over the top of our fence. It looks so..white out there. The weather has slowed down our outside activities so my stress level is lower than usual for this time of year. My kids are getting a lot of work done and I am beginning to catch up on grading. I would love one more blizzard this month on a school day. emoticon

Morning,

I hope you all had a great week. We are taking it one day at a time and making slow progress, but we are making progress. We would love to see snow, it just get cold and yucky here.

Val, I wish I was in a position to help you. I am just not there. I will pray for you and the team.

We are busy with Teenpact right now. Do any of you participate in Teenpact?

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Hi, all!

I love this team and would love to see it thrive. I don't have the time to put into leadership the way I thought I would this semester. Anyone interested in co-leading so that team gets the attention it needs?

Thanks,

Val

We got some snow but not really enough to do anything with and its a powdery snow so it's not good for snowballs. The one year we had a lot of snow and the kids made tunnels especially where it was higher due to,the snowblower piles.

It will soon be time to give myself a pep talk of why I want to exercise. Lunch and reading to the kids first though.

Kim, My kids are not huge fans of the snow however they do have plans to creat an igloo out of the snowbank at the back of out parking lot. They are going stir crazy so this will help get them out and work off some energy.

My neighbor has 2 small children and he used his snowblower to make a maze in his back yard. I can just see their pom-pom hats as they run through the maze. Now that was smart! They will burn some energy!

We got over 2 feet of snow! The pblic schools are closed an extra day. I was going to do some catch up on school since all my teens are stuck inside without friends over. But I ran out of mental gas and ended up having a lite school day yesterday and a slow morning. I am on my way to start history....maybe this day will turn out more focused.

I had a week off from exercise while recovering from the flu. It was hard to get back into my routine but have managed three days in a row. I plan to exercise everyday because that is the only way I can get into an habit.

Homeschooling with a newborn does add a new challenge but some of it also depends on how independent the other children are. Sometimes doing unit studies and combing as many children together as possible works but again it depends on your family dynamics.

We are getting a fresh coat of snow today and part of me would like to take a snow day. However we really shouldn't. I'm hoping to get at least 3 days of exercising in this week. Ideally 5 but I'm shooting for 3. Anyone else have some goals for this week?

How is everyone doing? I hope that everyone is healing. There is a lot of sickness going around!

Kim, I tried many different strategies when my youngest was a baby. For a while it really worked well to have one child on baby duty while I did school with another child. Babies will slow us down for a time but it all works out in the end. It really does emoticon !

Hi Kimm! Many of us have homeschooled while tending to a newborn. It can be a BIG challenge. For some the solution is to take a couple of months off and then work thru other "scheduled" breaks. For others it is a reduction in the quantity of time devoted to the daily school routine. Then others change the method from which they were schooling. So a charlotte mason mom may pull out workbooks, or a Sunlight mom may switch to unschooling, I have had a few friends that went to a technique where they had the kids school them while they nursed and tended to the baby..... The thing is that you will have to find a solution that works best for your family. I can't guarantee that you will find one you are happy with... that is until the baby is doing schoolwork as well ;-)

Mary,
mom to 4 beautiful children that deserve a healthy and active mother

Hi ladies, I think this is my first post in this thread. It sounds like many are dealing with illness, sorry to hear that. We are too; it is just a cold virus I think. I hope my 2 month old doesn't catch it.

Have any of you home schooled older kids while caring for a newborn? Im really struggling to get a routine and system working. I'm feeling really down about it. Each week I plan to start off really well but then things just keep me from following through.Advice/wisdom would be appreciated. :)

Ali, I payed for your you and your children.

Maybe you should hiberbate for a while;take time to heal and rest and think about school later. Homeschooling gives us freedom for times of illness or crisis.

Morning Friends,

We are maintaining around here. I am so praying for my children. My ds did not have his best day yesterday and my dd just keeps going. My dd is exhausted with pneumonia and my ds does the best he can with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I am starting to get very emotional about it all. I really just want to hibernate with everything.

Hope you all are having a great week!

Blessings,

Morning,

Praying for everyone to be better soon and that none of these nasty illnesses are shared.
We have been sick too. Some days worse than others and I feel like I had a relapse once already. I feel better now.

Great idea for the high schoolers. I have friends that are not in an area that they can go to a local community college so they take online classes and still qualify for the hope. Just fyi if you do not have that opportunity.

I too am very thankful for this team.

Hope you all have a blessed day.

We're also struggling with health at our house. Colds/fevers and skin rashes. Kids coughing in the night. That sort of stuff. I'm exhausted. I gave up this week. That probably wasn't so great. I ate horribly today! Tomorrow's a new day, right?!

Good ideas about the motivation, Valerie! Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad for this team!

I have been struggling with the flu for the past few days. Today I had to mostly stay in bed. I am so glad to have a laptop!

I have my high school students take classes through the community college. They relate to the professors as adults. The reading material and essay assignments are nicely challenging. They also feel motivated because they are getting their first year of college done rather than feeling like their work doesn't count for much. It prompts them to look toward their future and talk about what they would like to study further.

I am not sure if this is a option for your son but my son would be very restless at home if he wasn't doing some college work.

Can I just say this has been a stressful week and I'm looking forward to hopefully a calm weekend?

On the health side of things I have done better about exercise but still haven't meet my goal. I did stress binge eat this week though. Hoping to get it back under control this weekend though.

School is going semi well. Does anyone have tips for how to motivate a high schooler to aim higher? My son has the smarts but does the minimum on subjects he doesn't like. I don't expect him to be perfect, I'd just like to see him challenge himself just a little to help with confidence.

Morning,

Wow, I did not realize it has been so long since I posted. I got sick, cold like feeling and just can not seem to totally get rid of it. I am trying to avoid taking antibiotics. I am using oils and some natural meds. I am doing better, but my follow through is not get so I seem to relapse some. I know, just like antibiotics I need to finish all. I just get in mommy mode and do not take as good of care of myself as I should.

I understand just wanting to curl up!

We are on our 2nd week of trying to get back into the routine. We are getting better. Both of my children have been very sick and so we are also spending a lot of time at the dr. My ds has many things due to a tick bite, my dd we are not sure. She spent 3 weeks in the bed this summer after many hospital and dr. visit with really no answers. We are prayerful and just keep going.

Hope you all have a great day.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Fourth day of "routine." My sinuses feel yucky, and it's very dry here (and cold!). I'm fighting discouragement. Blah! I want to curl up in bed and nap, but I did that yesterday, and am sensing that the children need a little direct supervision this afternoon. I'm thinking of doing something "fun" with them. Maybe building an obstacle course in the basement for them to maneuver through. Hmmm. . .

We are mostly back into the swing as well. Course now i have a sick child. Exercise has been consistent so that's always good.

Did I share on herethatmy oldest daughter doesn't feel challenged enough with some subjects? She didn't bother to tell me until Sunday night emoticon I told her I would try to figure something out but that she could have told me sooner. I could have been figuring that out while on break.

We have snow and cold temperatures here and I don't feel like going out but we will soon need some stuff from the store so I'm trying to figure out when best to do that. I don't mind the snow really (and it was only like 3 inches) but I dislike temperatures in the teens for the highs.

We are mostly back into the swing of school.

How are you all doing?

There were a few tears on Monday and quite alot of looking for books that were not properly put away but that is behind us.

I am still plugging away on exercise and following my eating plan. I am hoping to loose 2.5 pounds this month.

I know how that feels! There's that two-sided bit about schedule: I'm really looking forward to jumping back in with both feet to get some normalcy going! But on the other hand, I know I'll feel like taking a break after about 3 weeks of January.

I'm starting the January Jump Start Fitness Challenge for a bit of a change-up. It's hard to jog outside several times a week when the roads and sidewalks are all iced up!!

And I get that about prepping for classes. I just sat down yesterday to try to map out what our homeschool co-op choir and singing games classes will work on next semester. I need to decide in time to order the music!!

Today I need to get back to reality and do some school planning and preparation. I teach 2 high school classes for our homeschool group and I need to do some prepwork for them as well.

I have been enthusiastic about health goals in the last month. I hope that I can maintain that enthusiasm once all my responsibilities return. I often feel unglued by March. The long winter and tight schedule get to me. This year I want to be prepared and workin some downtime during the winter.

We had a nice Christmas and while we don't go back to school until next week I need to start printing and planning this week. I must say having the holiday on a Thursday really messes with my week.

There is a lot of crud going around our area. Stomach bugs, bronchitis, I just want to stay healthy. We had sickness through our house in November and that was enough.

I really need to make a list of what needs done today. I'm quite sure I will forget something if I don't get it written down.

We had a blessed Christmas too. God is doing so many things in our family.

I still have New Years Eve to look forward to! We do a big open house that goes late into the night after our church service. There are games for the kids and lots of food. I need to clean and put away Chirstmas decorations tomorrow.

My neice came to stay with us for vacation. She has a respiratory illness and is wheezing though treatment is helping. I may have to arrange for her to go home. We already got exposed to the germ but I would hate to share it more.

Anyone else have New Years plans?

Morning Friends,

Hope everyone had a blessed Christmas, full of love and laughter. We were blessed to be with family. It was a good day.

We all have gotten the crud that is going around. It started with my dh, then my dd, ds and of course I got it. My dd has some other issues also, not sure. We are all on the mend. You would think I would drop a few pounds with this and probably would have in another season. It's all good.

Praying you all are healthy!

We are probably going to do a small amount of school this week. When do you all start back?

Have a blessed Sunday.

I hope you are all better soon! Exercise? What's that?

Garlic is supposed to be a good natural antibiotic. I think it has to be really fresh and a whole lot to work, though. . . it might not be worth it!

Thanks, my daughter is improving without antibiotics. I think that we will make it to our destinations this week. Still praying.. my 8 year old complained of a scratchy throat this morning!

Arn't you glad that you didn't have a playdate at my house!

My older daughter had a horrible infection from contaminated lake water that resulted in small intestine bacterial overgrowth. She spend 6 months on and off antibiotics when she was 10. Her stomach has been sensitive since then. It has been 4 years and we are just beginning to see real improvement. She needs probiotics daily. More antibiotics would set her back.

We had strep go through back at thanksgiving it was no fun. You know if an antibiotic causes further digestive issues you should see if something could be compounded that might remove the things that cause the problems unless it's the main ingredient in the antibiotic, then that won't help you.

My youngest asked me today when we were going back to school. I hope she always enjoys school.

I had high hopes of exercising this week but those are quickly disappearing .

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas emoticon

I found out that my 14 year was so out of sorts this morning because she has strep. My son has been on antibiotics for strep since last Saturday. I am hoping that my daughter can beat it without antibiotics because she has digestive issues and antibiotics make them worse. We have traveling to do for Christmas so I hope that everyone gets well before Wednesday. emoticon

Gotta go! I can hear that our rabbit is loose in the house somewhere.

We are moving through our work to get ready for break. My 14 year old seems ready to have a nervouse breakdown since she has final exams and essays for various group classes due today.

I have been exercising daily. A couple of days ago I did a lower body workout and still can't go up and down the stairs without serious pain. emoticon My hamstrings and quads are fine. It is all those muscles in my hips that are screaming. I have been having some trouble with my right hip this past year and am thinking perhaps I just need some strength training in the hip area. That would be an easy soultion!

Morning Friends,

This is a hard season to diet. I am just trying to maintain. I seem to go up and down a couple of pounds. I have decided to be happy if I lose just 1 pound. That has not happened, but that is my goal for Thanksgiving - New Years.

Delia, praying for you. One of my best friends went to be with the Lord this past July. We spent last New years and had Christmas events together so I understand the emotions.

We had 1 event cancelled today and 1 for tomorrow so I am going to enjoy some family time!
We had a party last night for some high schoolers. It was such fun. We had a gingerbread house decorating contest, white elephant gift exchange, games and a movie. My teens are exhausted today. We are going to try to get some school done. We will take some of a break, but not much, just break on days when we have plans.

Hope you all are taking the time to just enjoy family and friends!

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

Happy Monday everyone. We are on break until 1/5 and it couldn't have started soon enough 😉 My kids have so much happening this week.

I got a good workout in today and am hoping I can keep it going all week.

I'm sorry I didn't read back through to know all that is going on.

We have been busy with some Christmas events too. Doesn't look any slower for us this week.

One more week of school before Christmas break. Anyone planning to take this next week off...I am so tempted.

Morning,

Hope everyone is having a blessed day. This time of year can be so busy and stressful. We are slowing down to enjoy everything. My dd drama's club went to the nursing home Friday and performed USO type songs and skits. It was precious. Saturday, we had 3 events, I am running on exhaustion. Today we ave a tea and painting event, then 2 different things we are suppose to go to. Not sure we will make everything! This week it should start slowing down.

Mary, that is a good idea. I have found I exercise better when I do it 1st. When it is warm enough to go outside, I listen podcast sermons on my walk/run. Best way to start the day!

Have a blessed Sunday!

Anyone get a chance to fit in exercise today?

It is 4:00 here in the east and I have 30 minutes free so I am jumping into those exercise clothes right...now!

Thanks Mary, You gave me something to think about! I am always trying to figure out the best way to fit in exercise and devotions. My best success with exercise was when it was first thing in the morning. My best routine with quiet time have also been in the morning.I just can't seem to swing both.

Today I fit in exercise at 3:30 again. I am really enjoying Jessica Smith's Youtube channel. She has kept my muscles sore all week.

ValLittleMa, i don't have a favorite child training book, but I love the cds and free seminars frm CelebrateCalm.com

Valerx, the only way I have found I can exercise consistently is to do it first thing in the morning, wake up get dressed, get my exercise done, then at the end of my day I have my time to spend with God reflecting on all the blessings he gives me each day...since I often have insomnia I have found this gives me more time with God than when I was trying to put it at the start of my day. (And if I look at the activities of the day It is kind of like eating the least desired food off my plate first then giving myself a huge ice cream sundae savoring every bite.) good luck in finding the schedule that works best for you.

Mary,

Yes, it seems like we're booked with at least one event each day now for quite some time. Like you said, Valerie, it's good but stressful. Today our homeschool choir is visiting a nursing home.

Does anyone have a favorite book on child training?

Happy Friday everyone! Has everyone's schedule ramped up for the holidays? I have 2 kids going to a formal Christmas event tonight and 2 going to an ornament making party in addition to all the other things already planned. It is good stuff but it makes the day stressful.

I didn't get to exercise yesterday. The little window of free time was taken up by going to the store to get dress pants for my oldest for tonights event. He grew out of the pair I got him in the summer!

I honestly can't find any free time blocks today for exercise so I will have to look for a place to slip it in.

How is your December shaping up?

Gotta a go start my Geography lesson with child 3 and 4...

Morning,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful December so far and staying warm. We have been unseasonably warm for this time of year in Georgia. We have been in the 70's the last 2 days. Our weather is so weird. A week or so ago it was completely opposite.

I have been exercising most days. I take 1 or 2 days off a week. I have the spark tracker. Does anyone else? Valerx, Thanks for the info on the Youtube Channel. I will check it out. I have a friend doing the Youtube RUKillerFit? another one you all might want to try. I have not yet. This is my goal for today.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Blessings,

I did my exercise again today after school at 3:30. I had our church small group of 8 over for dinner so I only did a 20 minute video. I used the one that SP sent out today with info about Jessica Smith's Youtube Channel. The channel is well organized with a lot of short exercise videos. I think that I willuse it again.

Any one else fit in some exercise? What is working for you?

Not yet. Thanks for the nudge in that direction! I did get to the boys' dental appointments, though. The girls have finished their written work for the day, and we've folded and put away about 4 loads of laundry from the trip. (My bed looks clear again. . . and so inviting! I wonder if I could manage a nap today?)

Off to exercise and then make "peppermint spoons" with the kids for Christmas.

I kept my exercise plans (thank you Jesus). One day at a time. I will plan on the same time tomorrow. I need my morning time to get finished with some school planning which should have happened during vacation.

Did you all get to your exercise?

Hi, I am logging in while my coffee brews.

I agree about exercise. Lets make it happen! I have docotors appointments and classes until 3:00 so at 3:30 I have an appoinment with my exercise video..No excuses unless perhaps a child is bleeding (used that excuse Saturday, the dislocated finger excuse on Thursday and broken bone excuse the Friday before).

Finally getting back about the math. We used Fred for junior high. It was very entertaining. My daughter really enjoyed it. We did Saxon in high school for 3 years and my DD is taking Calculus at the community college now. (she's a senior) check out the "fred math" website. It's an interesting approach. :)

Hey Everybody,

Hope everyone has had a nice Thanksgiving. I need to get it together. I seem to be eating for no reason.

Quick thing on the math, just like PALIZ81 said about maybe not using the same program for all the kids, my ds did not prefer Teaching Textbooks.

I am going to start running and exercising tomorrow! There, I said it so now I am at least committed.

Blessings,
Ali emoticon

We are using life of fred for algrebra. So far so good. Not sure I will be able to use it for all of my kids but it is working for the oldest.

I have survived our 3 thanksgivings.

I'm trying to get back on the exercise bandwagon. It's been a rough month with sickness in my house so that hasn't helped motivation. My thought is why wait for Janiary 1st when tomorrow is December 1st and just as good as any day to start. I'm leaning towards doing the skinny jeans program here on spark people but I'm not sure yet. My low bar expectation of my self is to use the treadmill almost daily. I'd like to do more though.

Hope everyone has a great week

What a great discussion on math! My husband is the math guy at our house. I think we're going to try the Jacobs Algebra with our daughter next year. I heard it is not bad. We'll see. She might need to do something between Pre-Algebra and Algebra.

Had a great trip! When I set my "5 pounds by December 1st" goal, I kinda had in mind a negative number, not a positive one. Oops!!

I'm so thankful for y'all!!

Happy Thanksgiving!! All Glory and honor and praise and thanksgiving to God our father.

i agree that the best math program is the one that fits the child and family. Math U See really works for us. Also I have learned to have tight accountability with math so that I know if the children are forgetting anything or tracking well with the concepts.Once the kids hit that puberty stage they seem to develop holes in their brain. My son is going through a growth spurt and seems to have a foggy brain sometimes. He can just forget how to divide or the rules of negative numbers one day. It is a struggle at that age but it passes!

I have my kids keep a math memory book that they review at times to remember formulas and rules.
