Hello! Happy 4th of July!
Remember to teach your kids that Freedom is NEVER Free and to appreciate what we have in the country. ANDDDD to work toward KEEPING our freedoms.

Also remember that FITNESS is never FREE, either. Gotta work for it!
Have a great July! I'm enjoying my weeks off as much as possible by incorporating swimming several times a week.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Morning,

I hope you all are staying warn. We had snow Friday evening and Saturday morning. Nothing stuck enough for it to amount to anything. Luckily it warmed up enough we did not have a lot of black ice either. The only issue this caused for us was Friday night, my dd and I had a surprise Birthday Party emoticon for my ds. My ds 18th birthday is today! The weather cause a few people not to be able to attend.

The party was great. We had a good turn out, around 25 teens give or take a few. My ds was surprised! I felt like that was an accomplishment in itself. I am exhausted. I planned on resting yesterday, but my dh schedule got changed due to weather Friday and he did not get home until yesterday. We, then had family from out of town surprise us yesterday. It was great fun, but I need some rest.

I did get some things done last week, not as much as I would have liked. The 1st few days of the week I could just focus on what needed to be done, the meetings and stuff took over. The one thing about that was I have realized it is time to get rid of many things on my plate.

Have a blessed day,
Ali emoticon

Morning,

Happy Saturday everyone. It is so good to be home. I am still adjusting to be back and a new routine. We were gone for 2 weeks. We had a schedule during that time from the clinic so now we are getting back to our schedule.

Welcome Adrienne! My ds is 17 and he will soon be 18. He has suffered for 5 years. This clinic was such a blessing for him.

How is everyone doing at getting back into the swing of things? My ds is a senior this year so we are so very busy. I am trying to enjoy every moment.

Hope you all have a blessed Sunday!

Blessings,

Ali,

Welcome back! I just joined in November, so I haven't met you yet. My name is Adrienne and I'm in Indiana.

I'm glad that your son is able to see doctors and get treatment. What a blessing! How old is he?

Happy 2016!

Well it's been a while for me. I love the encouragements and the post. How is everyone? It's been sometime since anyone posted. Everyone is probably back in the groove now.

We are at a clinic in Wichita. My ds if you all remember has Lymes and RMSF, we are seeing doctors here. This is such a blessing for us. We have been here since January 3rd.

I just have not posted in a while and wanted to stop in. I have missed everyone.

Blessings,

I ordered Singapore Math books which came over break, and I also purchased another book about communication projects. I spent some time last night, preparing for today's lessons and I felt so excited this morning. I feel like I really have a handle on this whole homeschooling thing now, since I just started in November. My son (11) also said that he's glad he's homeschooled because I'm more helpful with assignments than "normal teachers". It made me feel good!

Just enjoying the last day of vacation before Homeschooling.... emoticon Not that I don't LOVE HOMESCHOOLING! But, it means getting up earlier and putting on my duke-it-out gloves with my strong-willed child on the days he feels like testing me {which is MOST of the time}! Although we had a LOVELY GOOD BEHAVIOR DAY yesterday! He DOES LOVE HOMESCHOOLING and he told me it was the HIGHLIGHT of his day ,generally ,so I guess I have to learn to not be so hard on myself! emoticon emoticon

Okay, today is the day AFTER Christmas....Know what what means? Put down all the leftovers and go for a walk. Or, if you're a runner (which I am SO not!), then go for a run!

Grab your bike and go for a ride. Do a workout video. Clean house.

Just MOVE!

Have a great day everyone!!!!

Merry Christmas! In about two hours our festivities begin for the next 18 hours. I am completely done and that has not happened in a long time! We spend Christmas Eve with my dad, Christmas morning at home (just our family) then Christmas day with my mom!
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

You're very welcome!

Today, I just want to encourage everyone to keep going. Even if you overeat, even if you can't find time to workout, even if you're sick, even if you have an unending list of things to do today, even if the kids are turning your hair gray as you read this......KEEP GOING!!!

Take 10 minutes to go for a walk. TAKE THE KIDS WITH YOU! They need the physical activity just as much as you do.

Remember, you can do this with God's help. So stop, pray, and tell him what you need. He's listening always!

Wow! I can't believe I am back ,or at least trying to get back regularly on SP! It's been 6 years since I was on faithfully! Well, after having moved across country, and now that we are on Christmas break , I feel I can get back on ! I like how some things are still the same like riding a bike, I am remembering how to do the tracking and everything ,bit by bit.
I am sorry to hear of your loss,Jenn. I lost my parents both in my youth and it is always hard. Praying for your family.
Susan, my how the kids are growing up sooo fast ! I can't believe my third grader is in third grade ! I remember when you were telling me about how the first two were just finished and getting jobs !
Valerie, stick with SP and you'll lose weight. YOU CAN do this !!! Think positive! I did it in 2012 for my 50th birthday and I know I can lose the weight again. It's the maintaining that is REALLY hard for me !
Happy to get to chat however, few times I get to do it ,with fellow Homeschooling moms.
In case you want to know, I have one child and have homeschooled him since Pre-K {he asked to be Homeschooled at 3 and 1/2 and to teach him to read at age 2 and 1/2 }. I am a retired elem. schoolteacher after 21 years with two school districts and am HAPPY to be Homeschooling {I always capitalize Homeschooling as I feel it warrants respect for what God has led me to do !} . When I taught in the public schools, long before my son was born , I knew when I would be raising my child, that I would Homeschool. The public schools that I was raised in and taught in are not the same today. I have the 10 commandments in my classroom {yes, we have a separate schoolroom } and speak about Jesus all the time without fear as we are born again Christians and know the Lord as our Saviour.
I am happy to be on this Homeschooling team !
Sincerely,
A fellow Homeschooling mom,
Betsy

Morning,

Wow, I did not realize it has been so long. Busy school year. Life is just flying by. I have gained so much weight by not paying attention and just going.

Yes we have been working on school some. Both my children worked on school Wednesday, my ds did Friday and my dd did Saturday and we probably will today. This is dual enrollment. They both have papers and speeches due for their final. We are not going to dual enroll next semester. The children just want to enjoy some time. We will continue the high school subjects we are doing.

Jenn, so sorry for your loss. Praying for your family. So much change during this season for you all. Wow! Remember to take some time for yourself.

Welcome back, Valerie! you can do this.

We are working at enjoying this year with the children. We are going on a cruise with many of their friends and parents. There are 15 of us going in a couple of weeks. We have tried to have something for them every month. We is the team working with the juniors and seniors in our homeschool group.

Hope everyone has had a blessed Thanksgiving and enjoyed some time with family and friends.
We all have so much to be thankful for. Enjoy!

Blessings,

Jenn,

I'm sorry for all your loss. I'm sure you are feeling overwhelmed to say the least. A few years ago was a season like that for our family. It was hard, and we weren't on top of everything, but we did what we could, and I made a committment to 1. make sure we all did Bible time together, and prayer, especially the Psalms as they deal with so many emotions like you are going through. 2. I did math and english every day, the rest we did as we could. In the younger grades, 1-3 you could actually do a year in 6 months, so there is lots of grace. In 4-8 you need to get the math and language in, and let them read the science, history, etc. In high school, I let them take more responsibility for following the curriculum plan on their own, and helped tutor when needed. They all did well, graduated and got into college on scholarships! So my fears that I was ruining them were just that, fears. What we were giving them was real life. And the sorrows of family life are part of what helps us grow in our faith, draws us closer to the Lord and actually helps us to heal rather than stuff it or compartmentalize it the way the rest of the world does. praying for God to be your Comfort in these trials, your strength, and your wisdom as you make decisions. He has promised to never leave nor forsake you, You can count on Him when all else around you is swirling. And don't forget to take a few minutes for you to talk to God. Even if you meditate on one verse a week, it will keep you grounded. Lord bless and keep you...

He that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge, my Fortress, my God in whom I trust. Ps 91:1

Hi team!
Hope you all are doing well. We've had a rough 5+ months so I haven't been on SP very much except for the team I lead. My Mom passed away in early June. At the same time my father in law was diagnosed w/stage 3 pancreatic cancer and started chemo 8 days after my Mom died. My sister in law got married 5 weeks later in a wedding that required a lot of family/friends helping! Life has been crazy, sad, overwhelming, and at times good. Unfortunately, life isn't going to get any easier with my father in law's cancer being inoperable, my husband's grandmother's health is failing and requiring lots of help (she's 96), and trying to be there for my Dad as he deals with the loss of his wife of almost 57 yrs. All that being said b/c I want to know how you all deal with life and homeschooling. I feel like I'm failing everything. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

Hi Team,

I am back on SP after a 6 month break. I am still homeschooling 4 and my eldest (and I) have been very busy with the whole college thing this fall.

last April grew very tired of how much time/energy I was putting into diet and exercise. I quit exercise and picked up intuitive eating (there is a book by that title). I tried to simply eat when hungry and stop when full. This idea also encourages you to eat what you want to when you get hungry. I learned a lot over the last six months but my weight has slowly crept up and my nutrition took a nose dive. Since I am always a little tired, I want to eat sugar when I am hungry. emoticon

I am not giving up on intuitive eating but I would like to loose the weight I gained, develop some sensible nutrition and begin a gentle exercise program. I would like to do all of this without having to focus all of my free energy on it. I pray that such a thing is possible!

Blessings,
Valerie

I am doing well, actually, and quite PROUD of it. I got back on Spark in September and have been fully faithful so far since. I eased into it with the 10 minutes of exercise challenge. ( I usually did 30, but committed to 10 JUST. IN. CASE.) I also felt capable of sticking to Coach Nicole's sit down workouts-you know, the ones for arms and shoulders, core, and even the cardio. Those are nice and short-none of them were more than 14 minutes so i highly recommend them.
I have lost 6 pounds and am aiming for 10 pounds by Nov. 30, which is my doctor appointment.
I'm mostly proud of the fact that I am ACTUALLY, in REAL LIFE (not just my imagination) FOLLOWING THROUGH on this. I aim to succeed with one week at a time. Just ONE week at a time. Last week I was so proud that I made it, that I felt like truly CELEBRATING and shouting it to the rooftops (Lol, I'm THAT bad on 'follow-through'. )
Please be encouraged to COMMIT to TEN. It took 4 weeks to realize that my energy had increased. As a Mother, that is VERY important.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Morning,

Susan, that was very well put. These seasons with our children are all a blessing, but we do grieve when they pass. Enjoy each moment, friends!

Well weight wise I have been in the same place for quite some time. I go up and down a few pounds and that is it. It is time to work on me a little. How are the rest of you doing?

Blessings,

Funny how life changes through the stages. The days of 3 carseats and packed diaper bags are behind me. Sometimes.....I don't even....carry a PURSE!!!! Can you IMAGINE??
My 'kids' are now 22, 20, 19, 18, almost 16, 14, almost 13, 10 and 9. My hubby and I were teary eyed last year when it was clear that my youngest was officially a READER. And how bittersweet to close a grade level of mathbook for the last time. But how wonderful when the kids can just go open a Science book or History book or English book and go read it by themselves!!!!! Ahhhh.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Evening,

Love the schooling you all have going. I miss the Lincoln Log days and wish we could go back to studying Constitution. We are doing Eng. 101 and I try to help edit and encourage. My dd and ds are dual enrolled this year in English, tutored in science and only doing a few things at home. We are in a new season. I am enjoying my children, just not as much time with them.

Thankful for homeschooling!

We are starting to enjoy the change of season. I am so enjoying being outside. How is the weather where you all are?

Enjoy Wednesday!

Those are great subjects, Susanski! I like your creative approach. Today we unintentionally "studied" Lincoln Logs for a while. Hmmm. It started because I dumped some Lincoln Logs on the floor so I could repurpose the basket for our swim gear. It turned into a great big Lincoln Log party all day, in between house work and regular school subjects and piano and errands. Funny! Tomorrow is girls' ballet while the boys and I stay home and learn usual stuff like cleaning mirrors.

Good morning everyone!

It has been an emotional morning for my littlest, so I am trying to give her time to "recoup" before we start school by distracting myself with SparkPeople. =) She seems to be doing much better now, so I think we'll get started in a few.

I hope everyone had a great week and enjoy your weekend.

We decided, in these dire times, that a good dose of the U.S. Constitution etc. would be imperative to our children's REAL education. So for September and October we will be taking a close look at the Declaration of Independence for starters.
As a family we are reading in the book of John this year. One chapter each month. Septembers chapter (9) was fun; there are many speakers in it so we made it exciting by taking different parts each day. Our school age kids this year are ages (almost) 16, 14, almost 13, 10 1/2 and 9 1/2. Acting out the parts really helps us each to get to know the passage.
As a family we are doing American Literature. Last year we read aloud both Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn (as well as The Hobbit-NOT American Lit but loved by all the kids, lol) And this year we have started with Little Women. I think next I'll be reading the diary of William Bradford to get ready for Thanksgiving. Now THAT'S early American Literature for sure! Other than these are math, botany and language stuff.
How about ya'll?

Morning,

I know I have been out for quite a while. Just busy with my children. This is my ds senior year and the time is flying. I am spending as much time as I can with my children. Please take the time to enjoy every moment, even the not so good ones.

We are well on our way. My ds is duel enrolled so our school year started in August, much to my dismay. This messed up our vacation and everything.

I am also trying to give my self some more time. We need to do this. I am attempting to be purposeful about my time with the Lord, exercise and making time to date my husband.

How's everyone else doing?

Blessings,

here we go! First day of school today.

The little one showed up dressed to the nines, so excited for 3rd grade! Thank you Lord for your promise of grace, because I couldn't even think of doing this on my own. Thank you for your past faithfulness to this High and Holy calling you have given us to love our husbands and children. Thank you that you 'gently lead those with young'. Help me Lord to listen to your voice, rest in your promises, trust in your grace and mercy and to run to your throne when I need help. Love you Lord. Love all you homeschooling Mamas, let's do this!

Countdown starting. 2 days and a weekend till the new school year starts. I'm still getting used to my girls being gone every day after 20 years of a full house so it's taking some adjusting. I was thinking today how different verses sustained me throughout this amazing journey called homeschooling. One was 'do not grow weary in well doing, for in due season you shall reap a harvest if you faint not. For the marathon through high school it's a long time waiting for the 'due season', but that harvest sure is awesome! And, as I think back to the times I panicked, worried, fretted, was anxious I realized I didn't read the verse well, it says SHALL reap, not maybe, not possibly but shall! Ugh, why did I not read a bit slower... Hope someone else gets to enjoy the peaceful confidence that this knowledge can bring. Happy new school year.

Hi all,

Getting curriculum and books ready for a Sept start after labor day. We usually camp out after labor day, then start, but this year with three off to college in 2 weeks, we went last week. 25 years of camping with kids has been an amazing memory maker. 35 years of camping with my sweet husband has been one of the joys of my life. I still remember our first camping trip together when he offered to put rag curls into my hair so I could curl my hair while camping. Such a newly wed thing! emoticon This past weekend I watched my girls putting on their makeup and doing their long locks at the cabin, and had to giggle. Yup, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Well, it's back to our Deut 6 calling; bibles, and books, and babies, oh my!
Blessings to you all

Just started school this week. Ouch! Some things need some optimization. What to do with the two very active very young boys when the girls and I need a good solid couple of hours over corrections is the constant struggle! "Quiet time" can only last so long when the boys are not really tired. The children are very excited about their new books. I love their optimism!

I tried year-round schooling several years in a row. It was okay if you have to do it. But I do so love a summer break from the homeschool routine! This year, we took July and half of August. It was a good amount of time to catch up on those house-maintenance sorts of things that are easier to address in the summer when there's no snow on the ground and the temperature is above freezing! We had a bathroom with peeling wall-paper (not on purpose. . . it just decided it was time to stop sticking all over!) and potential water damage near the tub. (Turns out the baseboard was moldy, but everything underneath that was sound. Thankfully!!!!) So we did some painting this summer. One of my daughters is interested in interior design, so I let her help choose color/curtain fabric. Fun "school!"

I am feeling rather tubby. I have taken no weight off this summer, and I have no desire to eat less or exercise more. Hmmm. Little math problem there.

Morning,

I understand the year round schooling when doctors appointments make it necessary. We have almost done that with my ds. My ds has lymes and has been fighting it for years. We lost his whole 10th grade year. Last year we schooled every day he felt like it and ended up with a month off in July. We are now in his senior year and we are looking at taking him somewhere for treatment to stay for a while.

Hope everyone has had a great summer. We go in a small vacation last week. I really miss getting away for a week, but still know I am so blessed to be able to get away at all.

Has everyone started the school year? My children started yesterday. We are nearing the end of our journey. They both started English 101 at the local college yesterday. Both of them are duel enrolled this year for that one class.

The time is flying by. How about you all?

Blessings,

My youngest and I took turns being sick last week too! Ick! So we started back to school this week. We are slowly easing ourselves back into it.

This year I am director for our homeschool group. We had our kickoff party last night - close to 200 people there. It was loads of fun but now that it is over I can think about other things for a bit! emoticon

I have many friends who school year round for the same reason you do. I hope it gets easier for you with having one year done now. I would think it would be better going year round and taking shorter breaks more often. My hubby does not want me to do that though. He is all for homeschooling and supports it 100% but he thinks they need a summer break!

Blessings!

This was our first year homeschooling year round. I didn't enjoy it at all to be honest, but it has become a necessity with my youngest being special needs and in and out of doctor's appts. We've taken the last couple of weeks off, so I'm hoping it will be just the refresher I need since we are starting back up on Monday!

ETERNALMINDED - We just had sickness sweep through our household a couple of weeks ago, too. Hope your son starts feeling better very soon.

I am so ready to get back into a routine! How about you all?!!! My son came home Saturday from a mission trip - sick! We were planning on getting back into the groove of things today but I am going to hold off a bit longer. He has had a temp but I think it is the good old fashioned crud. Keeping an eye on him though because he has asthma too.
How about you all - do you school year around or take a short break over the summer?
Blessings,

Morning Friends,

Wow, I missed all of July. We had our homeschool's group open house, camp for my daughter and I and then visited friends that have moved to Texas. My dd also did drivers ed last week. We never stopped in July. Time is flying by with my children. My ds is a senior this year! Where did the time go?

We are going to get to squeeze in a family vacation for about 5 days next week. Working to do this is getting harder and harder with everyone's schedule. I am just happy we finally worked something out.

Any fun things you all did or are going to do?

Julie, great to see you here!

Jenn, thanks for sharing, I will check out the blog. I think someone posted this on FB.

Have a great day!

Blessings,

Leaving in a little bit with friends to go to the Teach Them Diligently Conference! Whoohoo! If you ever have a chance to go to one of those - go! They are so fun!
Blessings,
Julie

Good Morning all. Welcome Julie

My kids are involved with a tennis camp 3 times a week right now at the local high school so that is keeping the opportunity to walk the track. I'm putting in 4-6 laps, depending on how I feel and how hot it is. Then for the rest of the time I'm reading or crocheting. It will soon be time to start printing and working on stuff for the new school year too. I'm also praying about going back to school my self. Right now the financial accept is the main hold up. I really don't want to acquire any more debt to do it but there might not be another way.

I hope everyone enjoys there swim lessons

Welcome Julie!

I have been on SP very little over the last 2 months. I am trying to get back into some good habits with diet and exercise.

We started swimming lessons this week too. I still have testing to do for 3 of my kids but summer is in full swing so it has been hard to carve out a quiet time to get it done.

Hello, Ali! Praying for you!

My name is Julie and I recently joined the group. This will be my 8th year of homeschooling my two boys. One is going into 8th and the other is going into 2nd grade. We are part of a co-op where I have taught the kindergarten class since we began the co-op seven years ago.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Blessings,
Julie

Praying about your situation, Ali! And we did swim lessons. I'm so discouraged about many things right now. My oldest daughter used the lessons as an opportunity to learn, but today the swim instructor reported that the next two girls wouldn't stop showing off what they could do long enough to learn something new. I'm at a dead-stop on some child-training issues. Blah!

We started swim lessons today and the kids did very well. They had a good attitude and listened to the instructions. I hope the next 2 weeks of lessons go as well and they move up in levels.

Have a Blessed day!

I hope everything worked out for you.

We don't have much in the way of exciting planned but that's not to say something won't surprise me. The kids have made a few requests as to some things they want to do. I'll do my best to accomadate them. Last week we didn't do much of anything and the same will hold true for this coming week.

Afternoon Friends,

Stopping by to ask for q quick prayer. I did not do something I thought I had done and this could end up being a costly mistake. Please pray that this gets worked and and that grace is extended.

Thanks,

Morning,

Hope you all have a blessed Memorial Day. My ds is a senior now! Wow time has flown by. We have many friends that had seniors this past school year. My diet has not been so good with all the graduation parties. This has been a double edge sword for me as it is the end of a season for us, so many play dates, parties and so on with the children that are now going on to college. We have 2 more parties to go.

I am not sure how much more school we have. Both my children need to finish their math. We will see. I know we need some test proctored.

Anyone have some fun plans for the summer? I think we are just going to enjoy time with friends and try to get organized. We need to also see where my ds is and what we can do for him. I am not sure what I have shared here, but he has lymes and rocky mountain spotted fever.

Have a great day.

Blessings,
