I begin torvestatin (Lipitor) this week. I hope I don't get those dreaded muscle aches! But my cholesterol is over 300+ (genetically high and cupcake addiction) so I have no choice.

I was on every Statin drug there is and all of them caused muscle aches. Lipitor was the worst.I only took it for a very short time and the side effects were terrible. I had to go on some kind of cholesterol med.,so we tried Crestor with very good results. My Dr. started me on it very slowly like twice a week and gradually added another day until I took it everyday. I've been on it for over a year with no problems.

I hadn't heard about the effects of grapefruit on the medication. Interesting.

my doctor switched me, because my cholesterol was not as low as she wanted it and because I am taking iron pills, I drink orange juice to help my system digest the iron. So she said that although it is proven when you take lipitor then you have to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juices, but they didn't know the effects of other citrus fruits with lipitor, so she thought she'd try me on crestor which you can have citrus on and also she said she has seen improvements in other patients' cholesterol when the meds were switched with less of a dose.

I don't take statins, therefore I eat grapefruit whenever I choose. Sorry I can't help you.

quick question! when your doctor changes you from one medication to the other - how long is it before you can eat grapefruit?
