I think it depends on what you eat.

I donated blood again this weekend and the wellness check was back to my "norm" cholesterol of 222. So somewhere there is a weak link. I have an appointment to see my dr on the 23rd so I will go over what is being reported and I'm sure she will send me for another blood draw and then talk about options with her and see what would be best.

Thank you everyone!

I had a stroke. They said my cholesteral was 257. I ask if that was bad. It took me two years
taking my med. and I read books at the library about what to eat (fiber) was a big one 35 to 45 grams a day of fiber. I changed the way I started eating but still took my meds. Two years later my cholesterol is 115 you can do it. You need to try. Talk to you doctor. Get books on it read read read. It works. Tell your doctor what you read. He can help.

Mine seems to change very fast, especially if I eat a lot of red meat.

I have borderline high cholesterol my doc said with med you can see a change within 2-4 weeks, dietary changes are not reflected for 3-6 months. My cholesterol has been dropping 5-10 pts over months. Fasting or not fasting affects triglyceride levels but not total cholesterol. I'm not sure why it could spike like that. I would say something sounds wrong and follow up is your best option.

Wow! That is interesting! I am anxious to hear what others may have to say as well.

Yeah, that is interesting then. I never thought cholesterol changed quickly from everything I have seen. Even with exercise and diet, it took mine a long time to come down. Wonder what others will have to say.

Well, the 253 was a 12 hour fasting test, the 200 was a non fasting as it was just something lifesource does when you donate.

Technically if my cholesterol was going to be higher for eating the 200 number would have been higher.

Are both of these fasting blood tests? IE if not, I doubt they can be accurate at all.

I donate blood at lifesource enough that I can see a wellness check after each blood donation. I donated last on 08/11/12 and was vey excited to see my total cholesterol was 200 after YEARS of hovering around 230. I had a biometic testing at work on 09/18/12 and got the results from that and my cholesterol was 253! Needless to say I was shocked at that result and will follow up with more than likely another draw from my dr's office at my annual physical next month but that seemed crazy! Granted one or both tests 'could' technically be off but even if the lifesource test was wrong and I was again around my norm of 230 it still jumped 23 points.

I know there are lots of factors for cholesterol causing it to flux up and down but if both tests were right for that time that's 53 points in just over a month! That seems extreme! Has anyone else had that type of issue previously?
