Hi,
I started taking zetia within the past week. I began to feel very irritable and edgy. Kind of like I was in a fog. Needless to say, I went off of it and feel much better. I can't take the statins because of the side effects. I am hoping to lower my high total (279) cholesterol through diet and exercise. Up for any other suggestions.

I know that the Omega III fish oil, Flax seed oil, and Niacin will help to bring numbers down. Niacin side effects include "Hot Flashes". Make sure you get the timed release tabs and start out with 1 twice a day. You could also ask your dr about prescription strength niacin. I have never had a side effect from the oils.

I guess I was "fortunate" that I usually got Zetia samples at my doctor's office and only had to pay for it a couple of times. Still, I'm out about $200 dollars (no prescription coverage) and now I wonder if there are side-effects that we haven't been told about. I've always thought the whole "cholesterol" thing was a scam (someone came up with a drug and then discovered a "disease" it helped "control"), but my doctor insists my cholesterol is too high. So what do I do now; I can't take statins.

I'm sure this is just the tip of the ice burg. If they've done this with two drugs, how many more are out there that they've been making billions off of that don't really work? It is really a scary time. I remember when you never saw a drug ad on TV. I just heard that one of the executives (not sure if it was the CEO or who) sold off 900,000 shares of the company for 29 million dollars. I can't even imagine numbers like that. Millions and Billions!!!! I guess there's going to be a class action suit, but are those executives and drug reps going to give back all the bonuses they took? I think not.

When I checked with my Dr last month, he said Zetia was not effective and he didn't recommend it.

Well, since when have the big drug companies been our friend? They spend more on advertising than development.

It's sad, but they are big business and ethics isn't part of the bottom line.

(i was very disappointed as well. when i heard it on the news yesterday they said the drug companies kept the results a secret for over a year.

it's not like i ever thought the big pharmas were the epitome of 'ethical' but seriously? this is outrageous.)

I am very disappointed in the study that shows that Zetia does nothing to prevent heart attacks/strokes. It will lower your Bad cholesterol levels, but that's it. Only a number. My body makes more cholesterol than normal and the Zetia was supposed to help with ingested cholesterol by blocking its absorption. But why spend the money for something that does nothing to prevent heart attacks or strokes. I would like to know what others think about this.
