Hmmm... Does that mean RioRioGirl had a slightly cooler day yesterday? It's still perfect here. Amazing!

Well, HOLLYHOCK must be at her convention by now. I hope she tells us about it when she gets back. Oh! And I hope she got her two costumes done in time!

Anybody else have any special plans for the Labor Day weekend? I've got nothing planned, except hoping to bask in perfect weather and maybe have a bonfire.

Thanks for the history lesson, RioRioGirl! VERY interesting!!

9/2 is also my cat's birthday, but I don't think that registers on the world stage.

RioRioGirl, I second Anime77's wish that you're in a safe area away from that horrible fire. But I'll let Anime77 take your extra weather, because the weather doesn't get any more perfect than it is here this week!

We don't have mountains in Minnesota, but your description made me think of Minnesota in the winter. The snow...in the early evening...the cold...the skin of the people outside taking on a blue-purple color...

Born and raised in Illinois...I do miss the four seasons...California is hot or hotter...mixed with smog...but there are good days...when I look out my windows and see the beautiful mountains...sometimes with snow...and in the early evening..they can take on a blue-purple color....

Nice weather in Michigan! Although a little cool for the end of August/beginning of September...

In the Twin Cities, Minnesota, we're looking at highs in the mid to upper 70's and lows in the 50's all week. Perfect weather, but it should be hot and humid for our state fair. I hope this doesn't mean an early, cold winter.

Oh ho! Sounds like you had cable back when Cartoon Network actually showed anime. It's pretty sparce these days, limited to 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM Eastern time, on Saturday nights. Pretty limited pickings. So you're not missing much now. As for living with your mom, there are a LOT of tough times going around right now! I was just laid off at the beginning of July myself.

Generally speaking, I don't think any of the anime you mentioned would be worse for a small child to watch than the casual, played-for-humor, violence of Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry--and THOSE are considered children's fare. Plus, you're watching with your daughter and can address anything that comes up.

She was introduced because i like it but i had to get her interested in something her age as when we used to have cable she would stay up and watch adult swim with me and i watched blood+, eureka seven, trinity blood and bleach and whatever else i liked and she never had nightmare but as i am currently freeloading of my mom right now she was the one with the problems not me. Thanks for the info about cardcaptors i would have no problem but as i said before my mom would as she is christian and i'm not. emoticon

Welcome Eliza!! This IS a fun group! So... was your daughter introduced to the kid's anime because YOU like it? I ask because I was introduced to anime & manga because my SON likes it.
emoticon
Still... Cardcaptors, huh? Perhaps "mom" might enjoy the original, unedited Cardcaptor Sakura, if she hasn't seen it. It has some tasteful bits alluding to a same-sex relationship, which may not be something you want your daughter dealing with; however, Cardcaptor Sakura is far superior to the edited & reassembled Cardcaptors. In my humble opinion, of course.

Hi all! (or is it Konnichiwa)? LOL,

I love the Japanese culture, food, and of course anime. Someday I hope to visit! I want to become fluent speaking Japanese (and writing/reading as well). Is anybody up for being a tutor? :)

Anyway, I just wanted to drop by and say "Hi!". It's very nice to meet all of you.

Did Sakura start to bloom already in Japan? I miss Sakura... I'm original from the place close to Sumida River in Tokyo, which is really really famous for Sakura festival and Fireworks show as well.

The only thing that I didn't like being in Japan in this season is Hay Fever!!! OMG that was so bad....

Dozo Yoroshiko Onigaishimasu!

watashi-wa Tessa. watashi-wa America-jin gunjin shufu desu.
(I am Tessa.) (I am an american military housewife.)

I live in Tokyo, near Tachikawa. I have lived here 20 months. I collect kimono/obi, kokeshi and hina dolls, and taiko drum. I love grocery shopping in Japanese produce section because of the high quality of the produce. :)

I am a senior member of an American/Japanese Folk dance group, known as Tanabata Dancers. We study folk dancing for festivals and parades, and we also do formal stage dances with sensu (dance fans) for Culture Day. Our teacher is a certified kabuki dance sensei. She also teaches the members how to properly wear summer yukata for Bon Odori, and how to tie simple obi. We wear Tabi socks w/ our Odori Zori. it is the most comfortable zori i have ever worn.

We have lots of fun joining the Japanese in the spring and summer festivals, in fact we are preparing dances for Sakura festival in April. Our dance season begins with Hina Matsuri in March (Girl's day) and ends in Nov after Culture Day.

I am lucky to live in one of my favorite Cultures. My husband and I consider ourselves global nomads --or cultural pilgrims, and our children are TCK (third culture kids). I don't know any other life, and I am happy for the opportunity to live and learn the Japanese lifestyle.

~:^) Tokyo Tess

I enjoy life, in moderation, and chocolate, well ... that's a love affair!

If Real Women have curves ... then ...
"Real Belly Dancers have clothes!"

I like to dance with swords, fire, and finger cymbals, not poles or gogo cages (grimace).

I lived in Okinawa for 3 years while I was in the Air Force. I use to work part-time for a famous japanese folk singer Kina Shokichi. I got to dress up in kimono and yukata for work. I loved many things while spending time in Japan but what I loved the most were the people.

I thought I'd already posted here, but I guess it was in a different spot. I, too, love everything Japanese, especially sushi, culture, and decor. My oldest son is into anime and is quite an artist himself. He got me re-interested in the Japanese way of life. We spent two years in Okinawa in the 1980s, during my last tour of duty in the Navy. I miss the access to all things Japanese and the culture.

Awesome! I just found your team! My son is an artist and that's how I got into gaming which led to anime. I have a friend in Japan and so that led to wanting to learn Japanese. I love many animes. Angelic Layer is cool so is Rozen Maiden (if you like Lolita doll type things). Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery...saw them all. I love Live Action GTO and right now am into Get Backers. I've seen just about everything. I'm 40 and my son is 17. I am hoping to take him to Japan in about a year or 2 and climb Mt Fuji. So I have to really REALLY get in shape and learn the language. I'm so glad to meet you all :)

Hi everyone,

As I have been living in Japan now for 4 years I have an interest in all things Japanese. I love the fashions here and the food is great too. I am a poor student and my language skills are still rudementary, but I try.

Well Japanese and Chinese culture are similar they tend to borrow from each other, there are some differences in culture, entertainment, fashion I do admit though that I do not know a lot about Chinese culture just Japanese!

Hi my name is Patsy and i am from South Africa and love anything to do with Japanese and or Chinese. I am an excellent Chinese cook and love the food. I just gave my bedroom a makeover in Chinese/Japanese. It looks beautifull even if i have to say so myself.
Can anyone explain to me what is the diff between Chinese and Japanese?
Until next time
