Hey there - there's really no "magic diet" that they know of - if there was, everyone would know about it by now. Just like here in the States, they are influenced greatly by popular media and often find the latest "fad" diets to jump onto in hopes of getting those tiny Asian figures they see on TV. Asian markets (including those in my own city) consistently sell "slimming teas" and boxes of spices promising slimming effects
Granted, their portion sizes are significantly smaller there - which means generally they consume less calories than the average American (thus leading to lower average body weight). Also, their foods are generally based upon veggies and other healthy carbs - traditional Japanese foods rarely have excess fats or hidden calories that can increase waistlines.
