I've just moved into a Senior Housing apartment building. It's got great halls to walk on all 12 stories. emoticon emoticon I'll walk until I get tired, then get on the elevator and go 'home'. I love it.

Got to walk outside yesterday and got in a nice 35 minutes walk in the sun. It was liberating. Today is shopping day so I'll do laps at Walmart.

Wendy, starting slow is a good idea--better to go slow and be able to go again tomorrow than make yourself so tired that you have to wait another week before going again. Great job!

I got the new treadmill on Sunday and did a 15 minute walk/run. I know that is minimal, but I will do more and more. I put it in the living room so I can watch TV while I work out.

Man, will the stress of life never stop??? For the past week, week and a half, I have just been under the gun. I have not been responding well either. Wednesday was the final straw that broke me and I gave in and ate myself silly with Chinese food and potato chips. I did better yesterday and got in 45 minutes of exercise. I stayed pretty well with my meal plan and am looking for a repeat today. I am working on my exercise now, doing 5 minute increments of laps in the house. I am taking extra steps each time I do something. When I go go the kitchen to get my water I walk around the table twice to get those extra steps.

I got 10000 steps in yesterday, worked half a day, grocery shopped and helped do some heavy yard work. Feel good about all that even though I was hurting big time.

Walked Walmart for 50 minutes yesterday. I did get outside for a few minutes a couple of times yesterday. the weather was beautiful. I did manage to stay on track with my eating yesterday so it was a good day all around. Hoping for a repeat today.

Hope everyone has plans to make it a good day today. Keep Sparkin'!!!

Hi all... It is raining here but I am not letting that ruin a good day. I still want to get out and walk, just might need an umbrella. I have to keep working on my exercise because that is something I really need to up my game on. Been walking more and been reading here for suggestions for new things that I can do. I had back surgery and have degenerative disk problems so I just want to do more and trying to find more things to do. Have a wonderful day and thanks for the support!

walked for 60 minutes again on 4/22. Not doing so well with the eating department. that is still a struggle for me. I am trying my best and today I WILL succeed. I am working on my exercise now. I have in 25 minutes and am aiming for at least 30. I had terrible restless leg syndrome last night and I think it was from all the walking I have been doing so I am trying not to push too hard today.

So today starts a new week and I vow to do better. Made two goals for myself. The first one is to stick with my meal plan today and the second was to exercise. I took myself to Walmart today and walked for an hour. I did 10 laps. So that goal has been met. Now to stick with my meal plan. That is always the challenge for me. I know I can do it, I just have to have a little more discipline.

Been skimping on the exercise. I need to push myself this week!!!

I want to share a video with you all. Last November my insurance company, Humana, asked me to make a video for their coaching program. I have a personal coach from them and when they heard my story they asked me to be in a video. They sent a professional crew to my home and they spent four hours taping me and interviewing me. The video is now available for viewing. Please go to the link:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSH7Nh_NKum

Let me know what you think. I enjoyed doing it and think the message is a good one.

I've been kinda down and tired the past few days. I was so up and energetic last week. I think I know the reason. At first I thought it was because I had pushed myself with exercise last week, but now that I explore the issue I find that last week was a great sunny week. We had brilliant weather with lots of sun and warmth. Yesterday and today it has been gray and gloomy. It is so dark and makes me feel down and low. I need the sun!!! emoticon

I got in only 10 minutes of exercise yesterday and Sunday. I am hoping ot get in 30 today. Wish me well.

Glad to have you SHRIMPY5181. Welcome!!

Hi, I am new to this group. Besides being a plus size girl, I had back surgery two years ago and so excercise can be a challenge. But I have been trying to move more and to take up some stretching and walking again. It's all a process and I am hoping for success. Wishing you all a good day.

Missing the first training ride of the year because I'm sick and it's only 39 degrees out. Might try to get on the stationary cycle today.

MISSG180 - sorry to hear you're sick. Hoep you're feeling better

Talked myself into doing my exercise yesterday. I didn't really want to do it so I told myself to do just 10 minutes. I did that and then went back and did some more. I managed to get in 60 minutes of exercise in 10 and 15 minute increments. I am walking at almost my old speed. I am at 2.3 mph. I was able to walk at 2.4. Maybe in a few weeks. My goal for the year was to get to a speed of 2.5 mph. I still have some time to work on it.

Did 65 minutes of walking on the treadmill yesterday. I walked at a slightly slower pace as I couldn't do my usual 2.4 mph. it seemed fast and I had trouble keeping up. Not sure what that was all about, but I got the walk in just the same and burned 340 calories. Got up a little late today so my day is off. I'll get to my exercise later in the day. Gotta wait until my breakfast digests.

In joined Sparkcoach too. It is my second time doing it but this time I did the trial and then paid for a subscription. for a year. I find it helps keep me accountable.

HI all. I went to my dermatologist on Friday my rash looked worse , she gave me a steroid topical cream and told me to stay inside out of the heat and not to get hot and sweaty said it would take 4 weeks before it would go away she took a biopsy, and told me to stop taking drugs. I have a bit of a fever. I don't feel well at all. I look Like humpty dumpty.

Was slow going yesterday. I only got in around 35 minutes walking at Walmart. the store was a little busy and I don't do well in busy environments. I was having to dodge people who were taking their time looking at stuff. many times they left their carts in the aisle while they wandered off somewhere else. I really hate that. take your cart with you!! I jsut stared my exercise at home and I have in 22 minutes on the treadmill. I'm taking a small break. I'll see how far I get today. emoticon

PJOY17 - sorry to hear of your difficulties. You're in my prayers daily. I pray for all my sparkfriends, for God knows what your needs are before you speak them.

I got some new exercise DVD's the other day. I had ordered the Richard Simmons Sweatin' To The Oldies DVD's. I may try one today. I am a little chicken. I know walking and I like it. I don't know if I can do the DVD's.

Hi Cat and Miss G!!! WTG YOU !!!!! I am proud of you both!!!!

Sorry for being so out of it. Miss G sent me a note and I wrote her back and I am just going to copy and paste what I wrote , I am not very well. . Big HUGS!

Hi MissG it has been one thing after another, I have a shoulder impingement going on and was in outpatient pt for 6 weeks, I developed trunkal lymphedema that then went through my entire hips, pelvis, and now is in my upper legs as well, my neurologist ordered home care lymphedema therapy and physical therapy so I can stay off my bike as much as possible since it is my transportation , he had ordered dylantin for pain 3 weeks ago , this past Friday I started breaking out in a rash in my groin and upper legs my internist was called by the home care company and anti fungal cream was ordered Monday the rash was different and spreading I called my neurologist and had him order a cbc and chem panel with the dilantin level and liver function , they came back all normal except my basophils were elevated , that was Tuesday , that day the rash was now on my belly and chest and flat and red welts.. I have a history of having a steven Johnsons syndrome to a drug years ago. So the doc had me stop the dylantin , start benadryl around the clock every 8 hours and ativan every 8 hours prn for dystonia if that gets triggered by being taken of the dylantin so abruptly. I haven't been to the gym in months, my self esteem with the lymphedema which has me looking like a big swollen balloon is in the pits. AT this point I can't do a lot of anything until the allergy gets through my body , it was really limited to begin with . I think I will copy and paste this to the site.
Thank you for caring.

Walked 60 minutes at Walmart today!! Dhw as with me and he was looking around so while he window shopped I walked and got in 9 laps. That's a record for me. I did 40 minutes yesterday of walking around the house. So far I have been doing well this week with my exercise.

WooHoo!! I walked 45 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. I am looking to do it again today. I need to be more consistent with my exercise. ON another team someone mentioned Richard Simmons Sweatin' To THe Oldies. I used to have a VHS tape but it is long gone. So yesterday I checked out Walmart on-line and found the collection of DVD's. I ordered them to give me some other forms of exercise. I just hope I can do the workouts. That' s a problem for me. i get the exercise DVD's but then can't do the exercise as the pace is too fast for me. I'll see what happens when I get them.

I've been walking around the house...doing my laps to get in my exericse. Been getting in 25-35 minutes each day. Today I am on the treadmill. Did my first 15 minutes and am now taking a short break. Need to get in at least another 10 mintues before my phone call with my coach. I have a lot to talk to her about today. I've made some discoveries about my progress or lack thereof. Also read some good spark articles that I want to share with her. The sutff I read really opened my eyes and put a new spin on the problems I've been encountering. Thank good ness for Spark!!

Have been slacking off on the exercise. I am doing better today and am getting some walking done. I wanted to go to Walmart, but we got 5" of snow and that means not getting out of the yard today to be frivilous about traveling.

52 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. Today was a challenge as i was out doing laundry. There was no one else in the laundromat so after my clothes were in I started making laps around the washers and folding tables. I got in 30 minutes of walking. It was exercise for sure as when I talked to my DH I was winded while talking.

PJ, one of the things I found to be best for working on shoulder adhesions is belly dancing moves. The snake arms really worked on my shoulder. I'm sorry you are having so many problems.

Did an hour on the ski machine yesterday and 55 minutes today, but suddenly felt sore in the inner thigh, so taking it a little easier for a while. I just wish it would warm up so I could ride my bike!

Walked Walmart yesterday and today. I find I get a workout there. I do work up a sweat. I did 45 minutes yesterday and 55 minutes today. I also find I am walking faster, getting in more laps in the same amount of time. I did 9 laps today. I wanted to do 10 but DH was finished with his looking around and I didn't want to put him off so I could do one more lap. There's always tomorrow and the store won't be as busy because it will be a weekday. Despite the rainy weather today there were a lot of people out.

Happy St. Patricks' Day everyone. On this day everyone is a little Irish!!! emoticon

Good Job Miss G on the treadmill desk! Wow cool. I went to my last visit to see Brian my PT today had ultra sound and some other thing he does to decrease the inflmmation and then the exercises most of them are assisted we hit some adhesions and that popped and it hurt and he made me move my arm through there again to break through the adheasions again and I screamed and cried and kicked my feet and made the most awful sounds. Brian said keep moving that shoulder. This is what I am afraid of I had just had therapy with him on Tuesday and walked 6 miles yesterday and I had an adhesion grow already! This new therapist has to work my shoulder as well on the lymphedema or I am in big trouble. I had to cancel my tutoring today I was in too much pain. I haven't heard from the people who are supposed to come tomorrow. A nurse , an occupational therapist and a physical therapist, BOY ARE THEY GOING TO MILK MY MEDICARE, I will run out of coverage fast. I think the occupational therapist orders the compression stocking for my arm or sleeve why the nurse can't do that I don't know , or the phyiscal therapist. We will see.
Bob will take me tomorrow for MY CT SCAN.
Cat thank you for the prayers. WTG on your hard work
I did ride my bike 6 miles today to my appointment.

I finally put together the treadmill desk hubby ordered a couple weeks ago. I'm liking it so far. Just finishing up my first hour on it. It's going to take some getting used to, but everything I read about sitting and how bad it is for people makes me want to stay on this thing all day!

Sorry to hear about your troubles PJ. Hope all gets better for you. Will keep you in my prayers.

I walked Walmart yesterday and did 45 minutes. Not sure what I will do today. I really don't "feel" like doing anything. I am waiting for a phone call and I know if I get started on the
treadmill the phone will ring and interrupt me. that happened the other day. I got so frustrated that I gave up on the exercise. I wanted to take myself to Walmart again today, but we are hoping to hear something positive about my DH's disability claim. Gotta wait for the phone!!!

Wow Cat WTG!
Miss G Big hugs! 2013 is the pits for me too!
I am sorry I have been not here. I am having a horrible time.
this is my post for my other team that has dwindled down to 2 people. . Boy today was a long day. I had Andy take me to the bus stop and I took the connector bus to PSL then walked the 3 miles to Dr Maraist's . I had the nurse bring me a gown so I could show him the lymphedema, my weight today in all of my clothes and shoes was to an all time high in almost 3 years of 200 pounds! I am not even going to worry about it, what can I do the swelling is out of control everywhere my chest, my arm and realize now it is in my groin as well. Rolling my eyes. I showed Dr Maraist and he examined me felt my lymph nodes in my neck and above my collar bone hadn't noticed they hurt but they are tender in some areas , he ordered ct scans of my chest abdomen and groin with iodine and barium to check for obstructions that will be done on Friday , he also ordered lymphedea therapy that will be done in the home , physical therapy, the therapist will call Brian my physical therapist and see what he is doing with my shoulder and continue that at home as well because I can't have both therapies at the same time outpatient and in patient , Brian does't do the lymph therapy doesn't know how . So they will fit me with a sleeve for my arm ( a compression stocking ) they have to get on top of this quickly before it gets worse. Dr Maraist also prescribed another drug , dylantin another seizure drug for pain not seizures , trying to get the RSD pain to calm down he said ' WE HAVE TO GET THIS PAIN TO CALM DOWN FAST" . So I go see Brian for one last time, I am sad and concerned I am worried that my shoulder will get worse. I know crazy huh. I feel like I am in a time warp from 20 years ago.
Good night.
I have a screwed up shoulder that I was told on Monday that I needed pt for 4 more weeks PT, no torn rotator cuff, tendonosis , bursitis , shoulder impingment I have been in PT for 6 weeks now , I have RSD and it is flared up , have had it for 20 years and it was quiet for a long time and now it is back and now having lymphedema under my arm and chest and showing up in my groin and legs, weight is up up up I look like a big balloon and I am very upset.
Big hugs girls.

Despite the broken tailbone, I went to the gym and walked for an hour on the treadmill. Trying not to fall off the wagon, but this is definitely worse than when I busted it in July. I am getting an MRI tomorrow.

I walked 50 minutes today at Walmart. I made myself get dressed and went out just to walk. The store was busy but I managed to get in 7 laps.

WTG CAT! GOOD JOB!
I made an appointment with my ortho for Monday. My arm is so painful and seems to be at a plateau. I saw my neurologist on Wednesday and suggested I do that. My pt wanted me to wait another week but I don't know why I don't seem to be getting any better.

I've been doing 30 minutes on the bike this week. that burns 600 calories each day. WooHoo!! Thanks to another challenge I am doing I get in additional exercise for the length of time my microwave works so yesterday I used my microwave for 12.75 minutes. I walked that on the treadmill and actually walked for 15 minutes to give myself a little more time.

Had a bad day yesterday and did not get in any exercise. By the time I decided to "try" it was late and I was still full from dinner so after 2 minutes on the treadmill I gave up:( I know, bad me!!! I am disappointed with myself. I am still learning to find other ways to get through my stress besdies eating too much and giving in to the "fill my face" syndrome. I got back on
track with dinner but lunch was a miserable failure. I am hoping to get on the stationary bike today wher I can burn mroe calories for less time. My aim is to do 30 minutes on the bike in 10 minute increments. Wish me luck!!!

Hi all!
Sorry for being missing in action. I am having a rough time as you all know. I am in my 3rd week of physical therapy, guess I am starting my 4th week. I haven't been exercising or much of anything and I am getting fatter every day . I am not exagerating. I had to buy new bras last week , I was in 38 B 2 years ago after my breast reduction last week had to get 40 C's . I am wearing size 16 Jeans a year ago I was in size 14s , I have basically no muscle tone probably 50 % body fat easily . I am being treated for a partially frozen shoulder, tendonitis , and bursitis , my RSD is flared up , everything I do hurts, even talking on the phone. I ride my bike to my pt appointment and he has me doing one exercise in there, he said I could go to the gym and do anything with my legs but so far I haven't my arm and shoulder hurts too much. So that is the story about me. I am proud of you all for Keeping on and showing up! Big hugs!
PJ

managed to exercise every day this week. That's good since I had stopped doing any the week before. I need to find the motivation to exericse today. I am in a "skip it" mood. I am in a challenge where I need to do 30 minutes of exercie each day so I know I HAVE to do it, I just don't want to!!!!!

I've worked out every day of Lent so far. I am not really a practicing Catholic anymore, but it seemed like a good idea.

Bad news is that I dropped my phone in the tub today. So much for a nice, relaxing bath. I immediately plunged it into a vat of rice in the hopes of saving it, but we won't know until tomorrow.

Ugh.

doing well with exercising but not with eating. i have been sleepy and am working on my attitude, but i am not doing well. i make a lot of excuses and get mad right way when some things don't go right. i do need to work on my debating skills better. i have a tendency to want to respond sarcasticly or just tell someone they are being stupid.

Got in 40 minutes of walking the last two days. I went to Walmart and did laps. At least I am doing something. Any exercise is good for me since I was not doing any.

Had to opportunity to rearrange my office because of new carpet being installed. Have put the copier/printer on the other side of the room. Now I have to get up and walk to the machine instead of just rolling my chair to the side to get my paperwork. Little steps, right?!

Going to bowling tonight, Tuesday night league. Unfortunately this is about all of the exercise I get. My willpower when it comes to exercise is virtually non-existent. At least in the summer I have yard work to keep me moving, not to mention daylight.

Hi Cat , hi everyone. Great on the 55 minutes on the treadmill! Good job getting your eating under control. Sorry I have been MIA so long again. I am struggling . I started physical therapy finally on my right shoulder tuesday I have a partial frozen shoulder my therapist says with bursitis and tendonitis , it really hurts, it wakes me up it hurts and when he stretches it out it really hurts, I haven't been exercising much at all just riding my bike to therapy and to get where i need to go. He says I can do all the leg exercises I want but for now my shoulder hurts with everything I do. I fell off my bike last week and fell on my left side of my head ( I had on my helmet and fell on my shoulder and elbow and hip and thigh, i have a huge bruise on my leg, 2 days later my left eye tooth started hurting, yesterday I went to the free dental clinic and had it extraced it was abscessed. I look so cute. NOT! I have a bruise on my face now where my tooth was taken out . I am drinking broth with chicken and veggies and I put it through the vitamix.
Not great but I am getting some nutrition!
Hi all!
Big hugs!

Oh gee...where has eveyrone been??? I have been in a slump for the past week or so. Not doing well wth my eating and certainly not doing good with exercise. Actually no exercise. I did read some articles and a blog yesterday that perked me up and I got on the treamdill and walked for 55 minutes. I felt better about myeslf after walking. Got my eating back on track three days ago so that is under better control.

I reached an exercise goal yesterday. I exercised for 70 minutes. WooHoo!!! I did it all on the treadmill. I was really excited. I'll try to repeat it today. I already have in 40 minutes of walking at Walmart so I need an additional 30 minutes. I can do that.

Hope everyone is feeling good this Sunday. We headed out earlier to go visit some friends. The husband was in the hospital last week so we wanted to go check and make sure they didn't need anything. When we got back I worked out in the back, moving lumber and stacking it for Bob for a project he's working on. That's my exercise for the day (mainly) cause it was a large amount of lumber that needed to be stacked. Tomorrow it'll be back to the fitness center.
Have a great day everyone.

I decided this year I would view my exercise differently. I am going to have fun to my goals. I have found that I enjoy playing the Wii and I spent hours playing versus the 2 hours I would workout. I plan on still doing my stretching and flexiblity workouts but I plan to have fun this year having fun to my goals. There are an enormous amount of games out there and on the Kinect also. My daughter plays a game where she has to walk and jump and move side to side and she gets a good workout. She used to use joy sticks and now she uses her body. I got the Wii Sports and that is fun. I play tennis, bowl, box and golf. I never thought I would enjoy golfing but it is a blast. I find the time just slips away and I go to bed and have a well rested sleep. Just like an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Some fun every day will help the pounds go away. LOL

I have been really straining in the exercise department. Straining to get it done. I did 15 minutes on Friday and then pushed myself to do 40 minutes of walking Walmart yesterday. I felt better after getting in the 40 minutes. I do feel bad when I don't push myself to do any. I also feel bad if I do a nominal amount of time when I know I could have done more. I feel guilty. Sometimes I just do 10 minutes to get "something" done. Maybe today I will do better, no....today I WILL do better!!!

Today is a taking it easy day for me. I went to the gym yesterday and worked out and will be going tomorrow to do the water aerobics with Bob. Cutting the weight from 25# down to 20# worked well yesterday. I wasn't nearly as sore as I was last week.
Hope everyone is having a great morning.

Todays going pretty well so far. Went to the gym first thing this morning then came home and got a few things done. Going to answer pen pal letters for awhile this afternoon so I can get them in the mail tomorrow morning.
Hope everyone is having a great day.

Got in 20 minutes of exercise yesterday and that was rough. Today I did much better and got in 60 minutes on the treadmill as well as some strength training. I listen to sermons from my church while I walk on the treadmill and I really get a lot out of it. I strengthen my phsyical body as well as my spiritual self.

Happy Tuesday everyone. Hope your day is starting off well. I've gotten in my morning walk and stretching and in a little while I'll be heading to the library to pick up a bunch of books I've requested. I usually get a large number of books since I only get there a couple times a month. If I don't have at least one book going all the time, I'm lost. LOL!
Hope everyone has a great day.

Did 30 minutes on the bike yesterday in 10 minute increments. Today I will do the treadmill and some strength training. ST is difficult for me so I will work hard this week to get it done Mon-Sat.

I couldn't do the scheduled workout today as the PT was showing others how to use the machines. I found out Wed. and Fri. are open session days so I'll do those Wednesday. I still had a good workout using the other machines while Bob used the pool.

Yesterday I got in 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill and an additional 13 minutes of strength training. I am having to push myself again to make sure i do some kind of exercise each day. Once I start I am fine. It's the starting that's hard.

Good Morning Team. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday. I'm feeling a lot better this morning than I did yesterday. At least today I can move without having a lot of pain. I flatly did too much at the fitness center Thursday and it kicked my butt. But I'll be there Monday and will go right back to those machines. But I think I'm going to go a little lighter with the weights and build up to the heavier ones. The personal trainer had me doing them at 25 lb weights and I think if I cut down to 20 lbs on them, it won't hurt me so much. Anyway, that's the plan. I won't see the personal trainer again for a month so I can set the weights to suit myself.
