For energy some whole grain carbs are also good. I like to make Onigiri with brown sushi rice (I buy it at an Asian Grocery store, just look for a long or medium grain rice so it'll be sticky). It's a good idea with brown rice to soak it overnight before you make it.
Ohh .. I love both almonds and dried fruit. I've been avoiding them due to the calories .. but a little bit should be work-able. Thanks for the suggestions!

I bring dried fruit, especially dates, figs, and plums. Dates and figs in particular have a lot of natural sugar, so just a small handful gives me energy.

I like almonds with some cheese and cherry tomatoes. Blue diamond makes great flavored almonds like Wasabi soy and Lime+Chile.

Lately I've been hitting a wall around 2pm .. I'm not sure if I'm not eatting the right stuff or what ... so .. any low-ish cal stuff that I can put in my bento for energy? I can't do artificial sweeteners or caffeine so coffee/coke zero is out of the question.
