No one has yet mentioned Lock&Lock boxes, which I think are the closest things to a bento box we can easily get here. Some big department stores such as Kohl's even carry them at back-to-school time. They're actually square, or rectangular, with corners so that other square things fit into them, which I like, and they come in dozens of different sizes.

Oh, yes, and they have rubber gaskets around the lid so they absolutely DO... NOT... LEAK. Love that.

Wow...Thanks for all the yummy ideas....I spent way too much time on each website and it was fun. I actually have a new Japanese round three divider bento with a lid (have to be careful of wet stuff though....will have to pack drier lunches and carry dressings or sauces separately). Some of these ideas are great. How about sharing some ideas for american bentos on this forum?

Another great product are Easy Lunchboxes. I use them a couple times a week at least!

That Goodbyn looks really good too! I love my Laptpop Lunch, I'd probably get that one too, if I saw it in a store.

These guys are also making something that could be described as an "American Bento"

Tomato products haven't stained mine yet...nothing has. They're great so long as your foods aren't liquidyy or soupy and you knock them over. They'll leak that way but I always try for a bit dryer bento anyway. haha

For my city, some of the retailers listed on the website were wrong, and I just saw them in a kitchen store that wasn't listed at all. Mine is from at a vegetarian store called Panacea in Toronto.

Does anyone have one yet? I'm wondering if tomato sauce will stain this kind of plastic??

I'm DEFINITELY checking this out! I bought my mother a bento sent for her birthday and she's practically wearing it out and wants more, but since there are actual laptop lunch retailers here, I can get her something without having to wait for shipping!

If you go directly to their website you can even order just the outside container and the inside containers (whic also come with the smaller flatware). That was preferable for me since I didn't want the insulated carrier, water bottle and 'cookbook' that is offered as a set on amazon.com. I ordered one outer box and two inner sets. Since my tummy is surgically smaller, the laptop system provides enough food space for me to have breakfast, lunch and snacks in one package. Very nice!

So while perusing one of my Nick Jr. Family magazines i saw an article about healthy lunches and what schools and parents are doing to help teach children about healthier choices.. and i came across this website.. www.laptoplunches.com

in essence they've transformed your traditional lunchbox into a bento! it looks AWESOME! and seriously.. something we here could adapt the idea to our budgets if one can't afford a 'traditional' bento box.. which i STILL want to get for all my family members.. i need new chopsticks too.. ours have worn out LOL!

just thought i'd pass along this great info :)
