I don't actually get a chance to make bentos very often, but I sometimes just like to chat, and I follow the challenges when I can. I like this group because it's smaller than a lot of the other teams I'm on, so it's ok that there's not a lot going on. As far as participation, I think it's ok if there's not much of it because this team has such a specific theme.
I'm not very active in the challenges on this group (okay: not active in the challenges at all), but being new to bento, and I only just made my first one a week or so ago (pic will be posted as soon as I find the USB cable for my camera). For me, there's no way I can do a 5-day challenge... once a week is a bit lofty at the moment.
What has me participate and stay in groups? Valid activity (I feel this bento group qualifies). Of the 7 or 8 groups I'm on, half have almost no activity.
I have been posting bento photos and photos in general on my Flickr account for as long as I remember, and I wish that we can attach photo in our SP messages to show what we've done with our bentos. Switching back and forth between Flickr and SP is time consuming and the focus is divided, so I would propose that we focus on this message thread since people need to log their food and exercise here.
An idea could be to upload photo in SP blog along with description or recipe of best bento of the week and do a quick announcement here so other people can check out the cool creations.

Personally the reason that I joined Bento Buddies was because of one of the people that commented on my site, Zircadia if you must know. I find that people I get along with generally are in teams that I would like being a part of. So my suggestion is just for the members of this team to reach out to new people. Commenting on their page, even inviting them to the team if its something they might be interested in. Also some of the biggest threads in other teams are game threads. Like A-Z ingredients for Bento might be a good one, or something like that. I don't know just some thoughts, lol.

I do like the idea of creative challenges, but don't know if they would actually get me to participate more--honestly, I don't know what would. Maybe if I joined the Flickr group and started packing more bento again.
Maybe we could do a "what's your bento..." topic each week? Example, "what's your go-to bento food?" or "what's your favorite bento space filler?" That way we all have a reason to visit and learn something, too?
I just moved into a new place last weekend and got my internet up and running yesterday so I'll be posting and logging in more. I'm not a huge talker/poster but I am intrested in bento menus and ideas for what to take with me to work. I think getting more active in a team will do me good so I'll work on that as one of my goals. I'm glad to see this team is getting revived!
I, too, am a lurker. When I started SP, I joined a great many teams related to my interests and goals, just in case I would find someone w/ similar background/life experiences.
Some of those teams, I am admitting, I've never posted anything relevant because the topics and "chatter" was too time-consuming for me. I am a W@HM and cannot afford spend my entire day posting on SP. I'll try to do better in the future, my Bento Buddies.
Honestly, I wish I had more time to post, but some days I don't even have time to Log-in, let alone track my calories and fitness. Usually, I track a day or two later. ~:^(
Some people seem to get to tracking daily, but my life happens at the speed of kids, and sometimes I'd rather spend my free time playing cars and planes w/ my 4 yr old, or giving a manicure to my 10 yr old.
Plus that, I have just added two Japanese/English Conversation Students to my schedule, soooo... maybe I'll ask them to teach me how THEY make bento. I'll post a blog about our recent first class together.

I just joined, and am on vacation, so I haven't had any bento opportunities yet. I value bento boxes because of their controlled portion size, and focus on grains and veggies (typically). I am a huge fan of the Vegan Lunchbox blog and I cannot wait to bust out my lavender bunny bento box and get back into preparing bento lunches. I think ELAINEVDW has some great ideas.
That's a great question -- I join teams like crazy but don't always participate.
One of the two teams I go back to on a semi-regular basis are the Calorie Cycling team, because the leader regularly does these point-based challenges, one of which got me within like 3 lbs of my goal weight over CHRISTMAS of all things. Sheesh!
The other team I check up on, though I'm not a member, is the At Goal and Maintaining team, because it's just inspirational hearing stories from people who have actually met their goals.
However, even though I joined a couple running, yoga and interval training teams... I don't participate in those, even though they have challenges and stuff regularly too. Not sure why.
Maybe we should start a bento-related challenge? Post a pic on Flickr of your bento lunch five days a week, and share a link to it in a challenge thread? If you use a point-based system, then maybe we could do something like...
Bento Fitness Cardio, 1 pt for every 30 mintues (max 4 pts) = Weights, 1 pt for every 15 minutes (max 4 pts) =
Bento Challenge Posting, 1 pt = BONUS: Meeting all nutrition goals, 1 pt = BONUS: Meeting all fitness goals, 1 pt = BONUS: Meeting all nutrition AND fitness goals, 1 pt = WEEKLY BONUS: Posting five or more bentos for the week, 5 pt =
At the end of the week, maybe we could have a weigh in and two weekly winners: One for points and a popular vote for the cutest bento of the week.
Then maybe every month we have a monthly winner for points and a monthly winner for pounds lost, and then start a new challenge the next month with a certain theme, a la Iron Chef?
We should probably have a thread of Flickr photos of the various winners' lunches stickied in the forum to get people excited about the team, too.
