Hope you are all staying warm. It looks beautiful out there but the roads must be a mess.

I'm starting a February thread. Please use that from now on.

Good Morning:

Well, I'm of the same mind about walking or driving on ice. I never did learn to ice skate...

I' was going to go to the gym this morning but I feel like I'm on the brink of the sniffles and it's best to stay in bed and drink hot tea.

Enjoy the day.

I agree with you on the snow vs. ice thing. Give me snow any day! I rarely drive, but icy sidewalks scare me silly, and so many people within a mile radius of my house do a poor job of clearing their sidewalks. In my most evil moments I want to make the folks who live in the houses with neglected sidewalks walk back and forth on their own walk until they fall!

Going to Forward Theatre today and hoping this cold I seem to have doesn't interfere.

Is everyone ready for the snow/ice that is headed our way today? I don't mind the snow but the ice scares me. I don't like to drive on it and I fell twice last winter on it walking the dogs.
Gail, good that you got the workout in, too bad you didn't get the "treat" of sittting in the hot tub after! And thank you for the "heads up" about the postage, I have a pile of things ready to go out and I hadn't heard. Hope everyone has a healthy and safe Sunday.

Good Evening;

Well, I went to the gym with every intention of exercising and going into the hot tub. When I opened my tote bag I saw that there was no towel! Oh, well, at least I got time on the elliptical.

BTW the postal rates change tomorrow. It will now be 46 cents for a first class letter. Those who by the FOREVER stamps have no worries. I, however, came across a boatload of old unused stamps...you know, the kind you lick... and I'll be using those up before I buy any new postage.

Sweet dreams everyone.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I'm actually itching to be outside and disappointed it is so cold. Our yard will need tons of work this year, so that's going to be a huge ton of my physical labor for the spring.

I took the dog for a walk on Wednesday and was disappointed to fall right on my butt! I need to step more carefully.

I agree- even though I don't like when mild winters lead to super hot summers, I prefer temps in the 20's to the single digits. I don't mind snow or shoveling. In fact, that's what I'm going to go do right now!

Good Morning:

Well, it was another one of those strange days. On Tuesday I spent a chunk for a new battery and tire rotation, and today I shot a wad to fix the steering mechanism. This week the car was a big expense. Ah, but wait....

For years I've had some silver and gold jewelry that I haven't worn in ages. Some of it was in need of repair, and in one case I only had one earring. Today I sold them and some coins I recently found at Middleton Coin and Jewelry. Surprise! I got enough cash to more than cover my auto expenses. I tell you my life continues to be a roller coaster.

The weather has really gotten to me and I just want to stay indoors. Any of you feel that way? I got a pile of books at the library so I'm all set.

Stay well and warm,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning;

UNBELIEVABLE! I just had a scarey experience. My friend was headed to O'Hare so I took her to the bus stop at 4:30AM this morning. We sat at the bus stop until the bus arrived but when I tried to restart the car to go home the battery went dead. It was about -6F and the wind chill was about -20F. The inside of the car cools off mighty fast at that temperature. I called for road service for the first time in my life and was told there would be a 45 minute wait. At that point I almost pushed the panic button. I have a blanket in the car, but was feeling the cold get to me quickly and there was no place that was opened at that hour where I could keep warm. By good fortune, my granddaughter lives 1 block from where the car stalled so I called her and waited at her place for a while. The road service arrived and got my car going pronto. As I looked at the dashboard I saw the icon that lets me know when one of my tires needs air. Oh goodie! I don't know how to test the tires or add air so I'll have to go to a gas station and have someone show me. What a harrowing experience.

Going to curl up with a book and a mug of tea now.

G.

Enjoy each day.

I'm rushing into January 2013 with ten minutes a day of exercise while recording food and sparking here and there. Then I'll stop and see where I end up by month's end to fine tune for a February Valentine for me. Right now I'm thinking a movie day reward for myself. Something entertaining enough to keep me laughing over eating. Any ideas for a good funny movie to give myself for V-Day?

Nice to meetcha all!

I've really been slacking too. I've never been a winter sports kinda girl and this weather makes me want to curl up in front of the fire with the cats, coffee and my Kindle! Walked the dogs earlier and my face still feels frozen. I think I will pack a gym bag to put in my car and stop at Gold's on my way home from work tommorow. Maybe if I am being more active it will help me want to make better food choices. Gail, it sounds like you are doing really well on food choices, good for you! I need to take the time to write out new goals also. It always seems to help me when I have a clear cut plan. :)

You dont have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Good Morning:

I couldn't do anything for a few days but read, watch movies and play computer games. But yesterday, my sil came over and helped me clear stuff out and arrange things in a bedroom Vic used to store his things, and I felt so much better. He also found the keys to one of the cabinets in that room and that was great. We had been looking for them forever.
Afterward we went out for lunch. I had iron broiled cod, spinach and cauliflower mashed potatoes. (It tastes like mashed potatoes but it's cauliflower. Ever try it?) When I got home I finished my book. For dinner I had a salad and fruit, so it was a good day food-wise too. Today I'm going to run some errands and start a new book. PRIVATE EYES, by J. Kellerman.

I've been feeling like I've been doing a monologue on this thread and was wondering if you all wanted to close it. Please let me know. I'll stop posting if nobody else posts in the next couple of days.

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

I was at a funeral in Manitowoc all day. My last living aunt died. Getting together with family reminded me of how important it is to get together just to get together, and not to wait for events.

Boy, am I a ditz. Turns out I only had a PT appointment today. My ortho appointment is Feb. 7. Regarding the PT, my left knee is close to normal with all the progress I've made. It's still swollen a bit and I've got a little more to go before it's just like the right knee. Patience and I'll get there.

Good Morning;

I'm off to an ortho appointment and later this morning to PT. The PT exercises really work and I'm so much better. For the last few days walking down the stairs in the morning is normal, though later in the day or in the evening I feel the problem. Ah well, it takes time.

Hope you're all doing well with food and exercise. If not, there's always today to start anew.

Sending hugs,

Gail

Goof Morning:

Yesterday my granddaughter came and helped me fill the SUV with boxes of vintage clothing, sports equipment, and magazines for Hospice, and books, CDs, and DVDs for Half Price. The guy at the thrift store told me the last time they got vintage stuff in they couldn't keep them on the rack they went so fast. I had about 37 dresses, 18 skirts, etc. There was a LOT of stuff. Afterward, my granddaughter and I went out for lunch/dinner.

Today I've got more to do. I think I'm going to try to assemble all the stuff I need for taxes. Right now it's not all in one place. I also want to work on setting some space aside to put all things of one category in a specific area. I think I'll start with office supplies and family photos/ memorabilia. My sil said he'd help me this weekend and I'm hoping my granddaughter will come again today. I will try to move some stuff so I can more easily get to the boxes that line the walls of my basement 2,3, and 4 deep.

Sending hugs for everyone.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I need to get back on track, just like every other year after the holidays. Trying not to beat myself up for weight gain, but it does seem that by age sixty I should have gained some wisdom about myself and Christmas cookies...

Good Morning and Happy New Year:

I'm planning on going to the gym, running some errands, doing my PT and boxing things up for the Hospice thrift store.

I have several boxes of clothes from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s that have been sitting for decades. They are not soiled but need to be washed and ironed. The Thrift store will take them and get volunteers to get them ready for the rack. The manager said she always hoped to have a vintage clothes corner and now she will.

It's cold but sunny so I'm a happy camper.

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.
