Good Afternoon:

It's been rough going since Friday but I'm pulling out of it. I've been dealing with the attorney's bill, selecting a tombstone and coming to grips with the death of a friend over the weekend. Today, for the first time since Friday, I got dressed and have been reading a book by Jonathan Kellerman from his Dr. Deleware series. It's engrossing and has gotten my mind off my woes.

Today the lady from the monument company came and I ordered the headstone. My kids liked what I picked out and that made me feel very good. It's a double headstone in a medium grey marble with a serpentine top. I paid half today and will pay the rest after it's completed.

I've had an aversion to going out for several days now so I haven't been going to the gym. However, yesterday I did all my PT. Yeah!

Wishing you all a healthy, happy and prosperous new year.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

Anyone have special plans to welcome in the new year? With the big problem we have with drunken drivers, I'll stay off the road and greet the new year quietly, snug as a bug in a rug. Vic and I never made a big deal out of new year's eve and I'm sure I'll be fine alone.

Got a long TO DO list today, and though I may not get through the whole thing I'd better get started.

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail, I think your inscription sounds heartfelt and succinct. I hope the appointment goes smoothly, without emotional or financial distress.
We had a very quiet Christmas. The boys were at the homes of their in-laws and in-laws-to-be. We tried to go see the movie Lincoln with the next door neighbors, but it was sold out. So we spent an hour or so back at their house having cookies and mulled wine.
Now three of the four "kids" are on their way back here; the Ohio pair until New Year's Eve, and the son who lives here. His fiancee is headed west for a bike trip.
Hoping they all have safe travels, we should be a lively household for the next few days. Oh, they just pulled in!

Good Morning:

I had a wonderful time last night with my friends at a sumptuous Christmas dinner. No, I didn't overeat and the food was truly healthy and delicious. The company was great too and it was quiet and relaxed. I'm glad I went because I was going out of obligation more than anything.

I've already done some things on my TO DO list for today but it's unclear as to whether or not I'll get to the other stuff. For one thing, I called the monument company and a rep is coming to my house on Friday afternoon to discuss options and prices with me. Hopefully, the cost won't take me to the cleaners. I figured I'd get a double monument and have it good to go when I die. In addition to his name, birth and death dates I was thinking of having the following inscription: He deeply loved his family, music and life. The rabbi said that was completely appropriate. What do you think?

Hoping you all had a very happy holiday.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Happy Holidays to you too Gail!
It is apparently going to be comedy of errors Christmas. Yesterday instead of 5 ounces of evap milk I used the whole 12 oz can for my fudge, giving me a lovely creamy....frosting. I will either use it as frosting or the fudge layer of an ice cream dessert. Sigh.
Last year I decided to keep my Christmas cookie cutters upstairs, and put all the others I rarely use in the basement. I have no idea where the Christmas cutters are. We looked all over. I don't think I loaned them to anyone. So our Christmas cookies are shaped like flowers, chicks, eggs, whales, butterflies and teapots. They still taste good.

Hey kids! Checking in to wish you all a very Merry Christmast!

I had a bit of a set back this summer with my Dermatomyositis. It has caused me to cut my workouts in half and increase my Prednisone :{ but we are whipping it back into compliance so I'll be back to my old self in no time. The bummer is this happened when I just met my goal weight. With the needed changes I have gained some back. I'm working hard to not let it get away from me so when I'm cleared to go back to normal I'm hoping it won't take as long to lose those 10# than it did the last time. LOL!

Don survivied the down sizing American Family had done. In fact some depts who lost people was asking Don to appy for a position in thier dept. He did accept a different position and is happy with the change. :} right now the stress is considerably less so that's worth the change itself!

I'm happy to see the snow coming and I will be digging out our snow shoes. Last year was more like winter hiking instead of snow shoeing. :}

Happy Holidays and safe travels tomorrow :}

Sounds yummy Gail!
Kathleen, I know Fontana, and I think REI, rent snowshoes. That way you can give them a try before you decide you need your own.
I am glad we will be getting snow, but a little concerned about our Ohio kids who are supposed to head this way Friday.
I am ready, except no cookies have been baked yet.

I did all my PT exercises yesterday but I just couldn't get out of the house to go to the gym. Late in the afternoon I was going to bring my garbage trolly to the curb and get my mail. Well, a couple of steps told me the driveway was as slippery as glass so I retreated. If I get it out today fine. If not, no worries; there's just one bag of garbage and it can surely wait a week.

Are you all done with your holiday preparations? I wrapped some gifts...the last of them...yesterday. I've only to fill the Christmas baskets, but that's no big thing since I have all the things with which to fill them.

My food has been very good since I got back last week and I've gotten into a routine. Homemade soup, salad, fruit, cereal and a ploughman's sandwich have been my mainstays. I got some bread at Clausen's and put it in the freezer. When I want a sandwich I defrost two slices. This really works well. BTW, a ploughman's sandwich consists of a hearty bread, mustard, cheese, lettuce and dill pickle slices. Have you ever tried it? As for the cereal, Cheerios and Chex have been my evening snack. Works well.

Wishing you all a good day.

Gail

I want to learn how to snowshoe. I think it would be fun. I will have to look into getting some equipment.

Good Morning:

Well, it's not even 10:30 am and I'm done with ALL my PT exercises for the day. Boy, does that feel good! My knee is getting better and my limp is not so pronounced. Woo Hoo!

Didn't get to the gym yesterday but I'm planning on going this afternoon. What are you all doing?

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail, it sounds like you had a good trip. I'm glad to hear it. I am struggling to do my PT exercises. If I do them 3 times a week I'm happy. But supposed to be every day.

I have the day off work tomorrow and am going out to lunch with my youngest daughter. Middle daughter is busy making cookies so I am not baking at all this year. We searched the house for the tins she used last year for giving to others -- no luck finding. It's a shame to have to buy new ones, because they will probably turn up.

I am supposed to be making pajama pants. Sounds simple, but I am procrastinating. Maybe tomorrow!

Hi Everyone:

I just got back late Tuesday night and was exhausted after a 12 hour trip. I had long layovers.
I got a bit of color though I was in the shade all the time. I relaxed, ate entirely too much, and read some books.

One wash is now in the machine and there will be another tomorrow. I got to the grocery (Aldi's) yesterday and bought myself a present...a new 6 cup food processor. I've been wanting a new one for a long time now, but the good ones cost close to $300. A bit high, don't you think? This one was only $20 and if I don't like the way it works I can return it. Such a deal!

I paid off the last of the funeral expenses yesterday and will soon be looking into buying a headstone. I figure I'll get a double headstone so that there is nothing but the inscriptions to write when I die. The unveiling ceremony is typically on the first anniversary of the the death, though the stone will go up as soon as I get one. I'm aiming for something simple. After all, we are all equal in death, right?

Yesterday I went to PT for my knee and I got 4 exercises. The good news is, though it will take a while, I will get better. The objective is to keep moving, stretch and strengthen the muscles behind the knee, and to do nothing to aggravate the situation.

Will catch you all later after I've had a chance to read all the postings.

Sending hugs to all,

Gail

Kathleen: I'm overjoyed to learn that your biopsy was negative.

Gosh. Where is everybody, or am I not getting the most recent posts? Maybe people are, like me, a little pressured by holiday tasks.

I have great news, my 2 biopsy pathology reports came in today, and everything is benign. I wish I hadn't worried as much as I did. It was a waste of mental energy.

Other good news, my oldest daughter who lives in NC is coming for Christmas. Means ratchet up the high intensity/drama! But I am excited to see her.

Be well everyone.

Good Morning:

My daughter and sil came by yesterday to take me to lunch. Afterward, we came back to my home and they helped me go through things, tossing out a lot and setting the rest aside for charity. We did manage to fill a few boxes of books and I'll go over to HALF PRICE BOOKS to sell them later. Also, we found a box of books that may contain archival material and books that may have some value. It's sometimes hard to tell if the material is written in a language I cannot read.

I'm going to take it easy today and tomorrow. Tuesday I'm going away for a week's rest and I need to get up at 3:30am so that I can get to the airport in time. The thought of a good rest is keeping me going.

Hope you all have a nice Sunday.

Gail

I'm glad for your relatively good news Gail!
We went to the farmers market and fair trade fair today and had fun. I don't know if anyone else has noticed the scarcity of apples at the farmers markets and local orchards this year. The vendor we usually buy from had no apples; another orchard simply was not there. I'm bummed that I will have to eat grocery store apples all winter. Even organic ones from the grocery store don't taste as good as ones that travel a shorter distance. I'm more sad for the folks whose crops failed, or were scanty. It can't be easy, financially.

Good Morning:

Well, I went to see an orthopedist yesterday and the good news is that my knees are good. I probably have a little tear which is causing the pain. It is getting better, but I'm still limping.

Happy December to you all.
