Gail, my left knee hurts also. I can only walk a short distance on it, which hampers my exercise. But I can still go on the stationary bike, which I have been trying to do, plus my PT exercises.

I am ahead of where I usually am in Christmas planning. I think it's because of the early Thanksgiving, sort of getting a jump on things.

I am waiting on my mammogram report. I have had 2 biopsies, so I'm hoping for the best this time around.

Hi team,
I had a full, good run today for the first time since my bike accident. I owe it mostly to a great physical therapist, and a bit to my own stubbornness!
Had a nice Thanksgiving in Ohio with the kids. Not much else new. December will be filled with family and friends events for birthdays and the holidays. Should be fun!

Good Evening:

How is everyone doing? My left knee is still gimpy but I've been going to the gym 3-4 times a week to move it with low impact exercise. It's getting better but it still hurts when I put weight on it.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I just got a talking-to from my primary care doctor about my weight -- I have gained 25# since I saw him last year! It seems all my health concerns are related to being obese, and now my blood pressure is up too, so that's motivating. I feel like I finally turned around my attitude and am on a good track now.

Gail I hope you get your swimsuit back OK. Congratulations for getting to the gym so faithfully.

Jet congratulations on your son's engagement! If that's going to help you focus, get the most out of it! When is the wedding -- have they set a date?

Have a great evening everyone. I am looking forward to a day off on Thursday, but a little worried about the dinner. My siblings sometimes have drama at holidays, we'll see what happens this year.

Good Afternoon:

I swear if my head weren't attached to my neck....Would you believe I left my swim suit at the gym today? I did the bike, went in the hot tub and then took a shower. I even remembered to put the suit in the extractor. But I didn't take it! Thankfully, someone at the gym retrieved it and I'll pick it up when I go tomorrow. Some people's kids....

Enjoy your Sunday.

Happy Birthday Kathleen! emoticon
I vaguely remember 51...
My younger son got engaged this week. Six years ago when my older son got engaged I finally got serious about losing some weight. Maybe this will key another commitment? Of the 25 pounds I lost I regained 8. So now really I need to lose 20, since I never really reached my goal. My concern is what if I lose it this time, and then start gaining again? I don't have any more children!!! emoticon

Gail, you are working hard. I hope you get a chance to rest sometimes. I liked the "British humour" on the election, funny, thank you!

I had another birthday on Monday (when there were flurries to remind us what is coming) and I turned 51. A childhood friend was visiting from Boulder CO for the weekend and we had some good talks and went to breakfast at La Brioche. It was nice, but I got sort of exhausted with staying up late, and only now feel like I have caught up on sleep.

Have a good Friday everyone.

Good Afternoon:

Hope your day is going well. I was going to take yesterday off but my SIL came by to help and for a few hours we went through several boxes.

This morning I went to the gym and did 20 minutes on the elliptical cross-trainer. Yeah! Then there was the trip to the bank with 3 huge boxes of old financial records for them to shred. Afterwards there were trips to 2 books stores to buy Vic's old magazines and DVDs. Finally, there was a trip to the attorney to sign some papers. I got home and crashed for a while. My friend Ann came by with lunch this afternoon and now she is helping prepare about 8 shopping bags/boxes of things for me to bring to the Hospice Thrift shop.

I decided to "bundle" my internet, phone and cable tv services. By doing this I will save about $70/month. That's a lot. Well, the old phone company forgot to take the HOLD off my account and because of that I they would not let the new company move my phone number over. Ladies, it to 7 phone calls to get things straightened out but I finally did. I caught myself steaming with frustration. But then I grabbed a pen and started to write HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, all the way down the page. OK, it's a bother and nuisance, but in the scheme of things it's nothing, right?

Enjoy the day and smile.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

We are having my all time favorite kind of Sunday. Get up and bake something for breakfast, relax and do your own thing for several hours while eating entirely too much baked deliciousness.

Not good for my eating plan but very good for my stress levels.

Good Morning;

An English Sparker sent this joke this morning in the aftermath of our presidential elections; you've got to love the English sense of humor.

Enjoy the day.

Gail

A MESSAGE FROM THE QUEEN

To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

In light of your failure in recent years to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. (You should look up 'revocation' in the Oxford English Dictionary.)

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except North Dakota, which she does not fancy).

Your new Prime Minister, David Cameron, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections.

Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

-----------------------

1. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,' 'favour,' 'labour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix '-ize' will be replaced by the suffix '-ise.' Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').

------------------------

2. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as ''like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S. English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter 'u'' and the elimination of '-ize.'

-------------------

3. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday.

-----------------

4. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can't sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not ready to shoot grouse.

----------------------

5. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

----------------------

6. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

--------------------

7. The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it.

-------------------

8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.

-------------------

9. The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable, as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.

---------------------

10. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie Macdowell attempt English dialect in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.

---------------------

11. You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies).

---------------------

12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket, and we will let you face the South Africans first to take the sting out of their deliveries.

--------------------

13.. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

-----------------

14. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776).

---------------

15. Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 p.m. with proper cups, with saucers, and never mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; plus strawberries (with cream) when in season.

God Save the Queen!

Enjoy each day.

The two book festival talks I heard tonight were superb. The first was about being Muslim in America, with a Muslim man from Milwaukee who's written a novel about the topic and a Hindu man from South Carolina who's written a book about Islam. They read a little from their respective books and then there was a very interesting discussion. Second one was Michael Perry, a Wisconsin writer also who's written several books of essays about life...humorous, but deep. Anyway, I am a bit of a book nerd, in case you couldn't tell....
Kathleen, I'm glad you did not stay sick long. I guess we are in that season already.

Hello everyone, I had to miss work today due to a bout of nausea, it came and then went away fairly suddenly, so I think it was related to the vertigo I have had in the past. A lot of things are "going around" but I didn't have any other symptoms.

I seem to do much better when I am tracking, but I have to take a day off now and then when I eat lots of little things or mixed foods that are hard to track. Today is not a typical day, I have eaten mostly crackers!

I've gone back and forth with seven pounds for five years, and I'd like to be down about 20 from where I am now. When I track I lose, but I'm hungry and cranky. Maybe I need to increase my daily calories a bit and see if I lose. I like your attitude Emily!
Kathleen, congrats on your loss!
Gail, feeling better? My sis in Missouri seems to have come down with something overnight and doesn't think she will be able to vote.

Today, I am going to be over calories by one beer or so, I think. Although, maybe not with this headache.

I switched my focus from OMG LETS LOSE 2 LBS PER WEEK, because when I am trying this, I am hungry and discouraged all the time. So anyway, what's my rush? I'm aiming to lose .5 lbs per week. that gives me a reasonable amount of calories to work with and feels so lovely and manageable.

I would totally recommend everyone track every day, but if you are struggling, ease up on yourself a bit. The act of tracking might slow your consumption down. But what do I know? I've been this weight give or take 5 lbs for two years or so. Well, I've gone down about 15 lbs and gone up about 15 lbs. but the average would be right here.

If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.

Hey Emily, that's two days better than me! In an effort to make myself track food I thought I would try to track alternate days. Yeah, so on my non-tracking day yesterday I ate everything in sight. Time to find a new plan....

Gail, I hope you will feel better. That is a long day at the polls.

Jet, you are an amazing almost-sixty! Hope the physical therapy continues to go well.

I lost 2 pounds in the last week, which made me very very hopeful, but I still continue to snack more than I feel I should. If the weight loss could only continue! I am getting myself to do yoga tonight, I did some walking earlier today.

Good Afternoon:

I've been under the weather and will get back into bed after I post. Good news: I continue to work out 20 minutes every day at the gym. Also, I restarted doing the PT pulley exercise a few days ago. Got to incorporate that into my daily routine.

Tomorrow I am at the polls from 6am to 9:30pm. Please vote everyone.

we do need to be kind to our joints! My doc sent me to physical therapy for the pain I have while running. This guy is great! I'm not pain free yet, but I really feel like he listens, and comes up with good suggestions.
We just biked down to the Chazen to see the British watercolor and Uffizzi exhibits. I don't really know anything about art, but I still enjoy it.
Need to work on a baby quilt this afternoon. Everyone in the world (EXCEPT my kids) seems to be having babies these days...

Almost 60? Pshaw. YOU are awesome.

I've been having a lot of hip pain, so I am giving up running for the winter. I will try again if I can get under 200 lbs. My joints are almost 40 and I don't want to be mean to them.

I am doing ok, need to get back to working out but I have been away for awhile also. Not because of anything other than work stress and long hours.

I am getting back into zumba and running after a bike accident in early September. It's surprising how much of a difference 8 weeks makes. I still was able to walk a lot while I healed. but running and zumba are tiring me more than they did before, but a little less each time. What? You think it's cause I'm almost 60? Nah!

Hey everyone! Is anything exciting/interesting going on in November?

So far, we have vacation over Thanksgiving and I have a girl day in a few weeks, so I am very excited for this.

How are you all?
