Deana, I'm also in WNY, and the weather has been so wonky, it's a wonder we haven't gone insane. LOL! This week, the weather rollercoaster has my ankle throbbing... ugh. But I still got my butt up and over to the gym! It's part of my schedule... not going is simply not an option. ;)

I have been having trouble getting my water in, too, though not the last week, because I have a cold that seems to mostly be centered in the throat region... so I am drinking A LOT to soothe it. :D

Lewis89 - that's it exactly. The body holds on to water if it thinks its not going to get what it needs. When we stay well hydrated, the body passes the water through. I think, though, at different times, we all need different amounts of water.

The weather changing in Michigan does have me wanting to curl up in a ball, though, since it makes my knee hurt REALLY BADLY. It's getting to be hard, emotionally, to go exercise because I know my knee will hurt.

Thank God I'm not the only one going through this!
I am proud to say I have been maintaining for 4 months now! And it is not easy!
I had no problem drinking around 12 glasses of water when I started SP,But now I struggle to get in 8!
I don't know why! UUUGGGHHHH!!!!
I also am having a problem working out, I'm just not motivated.
I live in Western New York and the season change always gets me a little blue.
I keep telling myself I have to workout but there always seems to be something else I have to do.I don't know what to do to get myself back into it.
HELP!!

Onward and Upward!!

Hi,
I'm new to this group, but found this topic close to home. I have been struggling to get my 8 glasses of water in myself as it has been a little cooler here, too.

For me, when I drink less, I get bloated. Sounds weird, but it's true. If I don't drink enough, I will retain water!

It doesn't help that I also tend to crave salty foods when I don't drink enough. Maybe my body trying to hold on to the fluid because it's not getting enough?

I don't know!

I really do feel better when I drink my 8 glasses, with at least 6 of them being water and the rest as flavored stuff (non caffeine stuff).

Thank for all of the encouragement from each of you! I think it's been hard for me this week too b/c TOM is coming so that ALWAYS makes it harder to do the healthier things! But, on a good note, I grabbed my work-out gear and threw it in the car on my way out of the house this morning so I can hit the gym tonight before heading home! Small steps...

I've noticed much the same thing with regards to water, especially at work. Our heating is done via steam so unlike my home forced hot air heat, I don't dry out nearly so badly and I do drink less water.

But I do drink more herbal tea which is kind of a comfort food.

I think the season change is hard on the system. Once fall started rolling in, my mind started asking for all the comfort foods of fall and it's been a bit of a struggle for me (and I reached goal last Thanksgiving!). I'm working on it.

But I do love the candy pumpkins. Six of them is a serving so if I pick up all six and walk away, I find that REALLY it's enough for me, which is unusual for me. I really like sweets.

However, it sounds like you've got a lot of really good habits! That's a huge part! Keep up THAT good work!

I think all the good points have already been made here but I will just add my 2 cents anyway..First of all the cooler weather does tend to make it harder to drink our water but we are sweating less too so it's not a huge issue. If you can get in 6 you're probably doing okay....but could need more based on your level of activity....and, the suggestion to substitute some non-caffeinated hot tea is a good one. Even here in Florida I find in the cooler months I like to drink hot tea in the evening. My sister actually drinks hot water (she calls it Wish Tea!) Try some different flavored waters too and see if that doesn't help you get in what you should.

And, the second good point...this time of year can be tricky, but, if you are mindful you can allow yourself to enjoy some goodies without feeling guilty. Those candy pumpkins are not a bad snack if don't eat too many...and if you are eating healthy the rest of the time you'll continue to maintain!

Water is so important to hydrate, energize, and flush out our body wastes. Granted water can help reduce our
intake of poor food choices since it fills up your stomach but for me I find the best benefit is that it combats fatigue and keeps me hydrated for the activities of the day.
Hang in there in the maintenance-it will get easier.

I feel a little guilty on the rare days I don't drink all my water. Sometimes I will chug a couple of glasses before I go to bed so that I can live with myself.

Morti - Let me first say congrats on meeting goal, I met mine a month ago. Secondly, let me say that I'm right there with ya on those Brach's candy pumpkins.

For me, this is a hard time of year to hit maintenance. From Oct. to Dec. we have three birthdays and 2 food holidays. Plus, I just have a hard time with Autumn and Halloween. The apple cobblers, candy etc. They become decorations, not just food and I have to see them around my house.

I wish that I had advice to give, but alas, I don't. I just want you to know that you're not alone.

Everyone else is right about setting new rewards or challenges. It's something to keep us going without needing to see a number on a scale move downward.

Keep up the great work. The one thing I remember is...If something was important enough to be a goal in the first place, it's remains important enough to have dedicated maintenance.

Rebecca - Take control of what you can.

I deserve the same attention, care, love, concern and effort that I put into everyone and everything else in my life.

Good Morning Ladies!!!

I have never been a water drinker and I really force myself to get 9 glasses a day. I keep a water bottle on my desk as a reminder but the last few days I have been noticing that my bottle is still full late in the day!!! I try to finish it before I go to sleep but have not been successful lately or I wake up having to use the bathroom which disrupts my sleep!!! I am wondering if I just need less water since it is getting cooler out. I have noticed that my skin looks better when I drink more water but maybe I don't need to stress my bladder to get the same results. Something to ponder!!!

*gasp!* not drink 8 glasses of water a day??? (just kidding)

I find that as the cooler weather is approaching the midwest (Chicago), it is getting harder and harder for me to drink enough water too. It's not so much that I need to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but rather that when I don't drink enough water, I tend to substitute food instead. And usually bad foods, too.

Maintaining is hard work! Maybe even harder than losing weight. I was just thinking today as I was running, that I tend to sabotage myself when I reach goal by gaining back 10lb just so I have something to work towards again. DON"T LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU! It's not a good thing!

Now that you are at your goal weight, Morti36, maybe you can focus on other rewarding activities, such as taking a cardio or yoga class or try cooking new foods.

Lately I've taken to drinking herbal tea, which seems to have helped my water issue. Maybe give that a try, if water intake is what keeps you on track.

Maintenance requires new rewards and new goals, now that the scale isn't the "big factor" any more. Congratulations on reaching your goal weight, and good luck on the next part of the journey!

Sounds like you are doing great. At the risk of being labled an apostate, I really don't see the point of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. I know that is a big thing here and I drink a lot of water before eating in a restaurant to try to fill me up, but it is my understanding that there are studies that show that people who drink a lot of water are no more healthy than those who don't.

So, I'm coming up on my 2 month anniversary of meeting my goal weight which I'm very proud of myself for that fact alone. I'm just getting frustrated with myself b/c I can't keep to force myself to anything productive about the lifestyle change. Yes, I eat far better now and make better choices when I'm in restaurants and grocery store. Yes, I do eat less food at fewer times during the day.

Lately I've been struggling, yes struggling, to get the 8 glasses of water during the day. That one has always been the easiest thing for me to do. I can definitely tell when I've gotten my water in, my mood really shows it!

I've always stood by the old saying of "everything in moderation" and that's honestly how I lost the majority of my weight. I just find myself pigging out on the stupid things...like Brach's candy pumpkins and the like. I'm just bummed at myself.

I'm mainly just frustrated in myself and looking to see if anyone else is having problems....
