Try not to stress over it too much. For me if I stress over a weight gain it compounds the problem and I continue to gain. I just try to compensate a few days by eating a little less than what my daily calories intake is supposed to be then get back on track again. I pigged out yesterday and was up a pound today so I'll just eat less today.

Thanks Sweets and Bfit. This place is really a God send! It is nice to know I hve support when I need it. Husbands just don't get it. emoticon

I am back to 107.6 today. I feel better knowing I made it through. And I did about the same cardio this week so far. I am actually trying to rest some very tired legs. I am only at 8.5 miles this week so far versus 19-20 by now. So with that said I feel like I have just been over a big hurdle with my first scale shocker and feel more equiped to deal with the next one AND to lend a hand to someone else. How amazing is it that TOM, heat and some salt can do 6 pounds in just a couple of days? Why don't men get to deal with all of this???

Hey, don't worry about it at all!

It says on your signature that you want to maintain between 110-115 lbs. But you lost a bit more down to 106 maybe in order to have a bit more WIGGLE room. So even if you are bloated and weigh six more pounds now, that's why there is that wiggle range, so you WOULDN'T stress out when you see a little gain that is still within your range. I don't think you have to go mad on cardio and burn it all off this week (if in fact a part of it is gain, other part MUST be water retention), you can take your time to slowly go back down to 106 at your own pace that won't stress you out so much.

You are allowed to have some bad days, even if they are really really bad. Life would be too hard if you had to worry about this stuff ALL the time, for the rest of your life.

Hey Laura..
Glad you are feeling better..I can step on the scale and be up 3 pounds after one dinner out. I know that 6 pounds sounds like a lot but with your TOM it is probably not a real gain. You may also be adding muscle with all of your workouts. Good plan to wait until Friday..

Thanks for the support everyone. I know my sodium has been pretty high and a bit more alcohol than usual. I had an entire days worth of calories last night in Smirnoff Black! Arrrgghhhh. I was good until I put that in, lol. Back on it though and I did a run with my group tonight that I REALLY did NOT want to do. I was all set to stay asleep on the couch. Did 8.5 and had a good food day. I will wait to judge myself for a couple of days yet and stay on track. It will be much cooler the rest of the week and TOM will be winding down so I will make Friday the "judgement day" in regards to changing my calories and such for a week or two.

Thanks again everyone! You have made me feel better and I feel stronger to face my first challenge.

It is frustrating, but you're right, it could be a number of things and will probably go back to normal in a few days.

Hey THEGARDENCHICK, the week before my TOM I can't do *anything* to affect my weight, except maybe eat lots of sodium and pack on even MORE water weight!! Then my period arrives and the scale reflects whatever I've been doing, so I'll bet things aren't as bad as they seem...

Hi, when it gets really hot like that I tend to retain a lot of water as well...so much so that my rings which are normally loose, feel really tight!!!
All I do is to drink loads more water to combat it and it works everytime. Same for TOM...I always gain then too.

Go back to tracking your food, it may be just a little attention to detail that you need.

I find that I sweat a lot when it gets very hot, and I really have to keep on top of my water consumption. Add in TOM, and I get really bloated in the summer. I'd just up your water consumption, try to get lots of water-heavy foods (cucumber, lettuce, salady things), and watch your sodium.

Could all the extra cardio be causing you to retain some water too (to repair the muscles)? Are you still tracking your food? If so, then you could go back and look at your sodium. I highly doubt all 6 lbs are real weight gain. I had some super high days Friday, Sat and Sunday and yesterday my weigh in was 3.5 lbs over Friday mornings, but today I'm only up about .8 lbs. Just drink LOTS of water to combat water retention and try to get back in the saddle. As IrishAngel said, by knowing what is going on, you are empowered to do something about it!

Oh and with TOM I always gain 2-3 lbs in water weight...

I too have noticed the really hot humid days have me feeling more bloated....If sounds as if you haven't been too off track with eating so maybe it's a combination of TOM, few extra calories (sodium intake?)and the heat. Drink some extra water if you can...that does help flush you out and maybe change up some of your foods to jump yourself back down....I bet you'll see the drop soon.....

I haven't noticed myself experiencing water gain when its hot, but like you this is the first summer I've been keeping track of my weight. But I too have noticed the scale going up in recent days due to bad eating, between Father's Day BBQ and a wedding anniversary celebration I haven't been too good these past couple days...and haven't made it to the gym either.

It's natural to feel down about it, but look at it this way, you are aware of it. That alone is a HUGE thing. And you're doing something about it, working out like a mad woman. Our bodies retain weight or lose it for weird reasons sometimes, so you have to know that in time it will even itself out again, as long as you stay on track. And I'm sure your TOM has a lot to do with it. So don't stress about it too much, you'll be OK :)

I am just not a happy person right now. I am up 6 pounds in a week. (haven't had the guts to change my ticker yet) Not sure how much is food, bad eating, time of month and 90 degree humid days. I know some has to be my diet which is out of control for the last 10 days. 6 good days and 2 bad 2 really bad ones. I know everyone is different with water retention and all, but do you experience water gain in the the hot times? By that I mean 88-92 for the last week. I wasn't doing this last year when it was hot so I was not tuned into my body like I am now.

I have been doing cardio like a mad woman (3800 cals last week and already 1900 this week) to combat the the food part. But I just can not get my number on the scale to budge and do find it hard to believe it is all food. I guess I will find out sooner or later. It is supposed to be much cooler for the rest of the week and my TOM started today. Hoping it is just all coincidence...
