I agree with Shani. I splurged, but even now, a splurge is so much LESS food than it used to be. Not only that, I'm more adventerous in what I'll eat.

Plus, my husband and I immediately compensated for us. We were full without being too full and ate lightly for the rest of the day.

Today is a new day and we're back to healthier eating!

I am with Shani..I always splurge a little on holidays too. Today I had two helpings of cheesy potatoes (small helpings, but 2 nonetheless) along with quite a bit of ham. luckily since it was at our house we had lots of veggies and fruit (with dip, of course). And oh, the wine. Anyways, I didn't stuff myself and I didn't deprive myself..that is the balance for me..

You know, I don't think there is anything wrong with splurging on holidays, as long as you go back to normal (or better yet compensate) on the following days. :)

That said, I *did* do well today, staying within my calorie range (probably, some I had to guestimate, but I also walked some for awhile that isn't in the tracker either). We had yummy strawberry parfaits... my husband doesn't like them, but my daughter and I eat them up!

Well, here's where I confess I totally blew it! But tomorrow will be much better and back on track.

We went out to a wonderful buffet - lots of veggies and wonderful protein - fish, chicken, lean ham. I ate a little potatoes, and no pasta. Then I had at least 4 desserts! And no more food for the rest of the day. Argh!! So, like I said, tomorrow will be much better!

We're going out for brunch. This isn't terribly healthy but once in a long while won't kill us... and it'll carry us until dinner time.

It's just my husband and I. We're not terribly religious so we don't do a lot. Nor do we exchange baskets o' candy. So I take my positives where I can. ;)

I've actually changed my mind... I'll be making Chicken Tetrazzini. Not nearly as healthy but the dessert will be, and I'll keep the vegetable sides light. ;)

Sounds like some good plans! Any other? This is an unuaual year for us because usually my mother and I split the cooking. She eats very healthy too so we do well at holidays. But this year my dad offered to take us ALL out to dinner at a very nice restaurant in a shopping village between Philly and NYC, so I just couldn't turn him down! I'll just have to make good food choices althoug Sunday is my day of rest. Although I find that I really try to eat good stuff most of the time even on the rest days. Have a good weekend - and I hope it is good and meaningful one for those of you who have a holiday going on - Easter or Passover (which started this week.)

Blessings,

Shani and Did..sounds very healthy to me. Too bad my family just expects ham but I do enjoy it once in awhile.

Speakiing of Easter, last night I dreamed that I started eating Easter candy and just couldn't stop..sort of a "binge" dream (well, nightmare). Probably because I did my grocery shopping for Easter late last night :) Maybe now it won't happen since I dreamed about it and will be more aware.

Hmmm.... interesting that you posted this because I was just wondering what I was going to do now that I have a little bit of time off and the ability to make something a bit nicer. My husband's stomach can't handle pork, so ham or a pork roast is out. We had lamb last year and I was really pleased with the results but I've got a veto from the family. I'm thinking I may roast chicken with asparagus and lemon... make a lower cal scalloped potatoes with no cheese (but sweet potatoes could be good), and my daughter wants me to make cauliflower au gratin. I'll use fat free for mine if I have any cheese at all. For dessert, I'd like to do something fruity, maybe with berries since they are in season.

Hi, this Easter, I've decided on a Turkey dinner, low cal/low fat gravey, baked sweet potatoes.and loads of veggies.I'm keeping everything simple. I've got 85% cocoa dark chocolate for my Easter Treat, so I think I'll do just fine. Got loads of exercise already planned for over the weekend.

Happy Easter, Didi emoticon

Good topic..thanks for starting it.

Luckily our relatives are coming over here..so I am having ham, fruit and veggie trays, cheese and crackers, chips and salsa. Other than that my sil is bringing cheesy potatoes (one of my weaknesses) and some breads. I will make some kind of green beans. Wine (red of course) and bday cake for my daughter..I am thinking that I will do just fine. Much easier than Christmas and New Years for me. Most of the Easter candy doesn't taste too good anyways especially now that I am used to dark chocolate.

Hi All!
A lot of us made it through the winter eating season (Halloween to New Years) with the support and encouragement of this group. Spring tend to me much easier - lots of fresh fruit and veggies in the market, we plant things outside and grill out too. But Easter dinner may present some challenges. What are your plans and how are you preparing to stay on track with your eating?
