Completing a climb while hiking w/o the need to stop. My hiking buddy and I have attempted this twice and not been able to complete the last push to the ridge. This evening we did it!

Our first attempt took place almost 7 months ago to the day. What I also noticed is that our pace improved as well...today we were 6 minutes per mile faster than we were 7 months ago and we were also able to complete the climb to the ridge. Exciting!

My race results were posted today. I placed 28th out of 218 women in my age division. I'm proud of that accomplishment, given that I only started running a year ago and that two years ago I was morbidly obese.

It has been awhile since I checked in with an NSV. Yesterday, I was so sore, I skipped the gym but hit the elliptical machine instead. Made sure to get a short ST workout in too.

after having a miserably off-program day yesterday, i got back on track today. for cardio, i did four leslie sansone walk-at-home videos, in this order (total of 15 miles, 200 minutes): 4 fast miles, 4 fast miles, 5 miles, 2 miles. for non-cardio, i did core work and stretching for a total of about 30 minutes. and btw, for 4 out of 5 miles on the 5-mile walk, and for the entire 2-mile walk, i used "hand weights" (which are, for me, cans of beans that weight about 1.25 pounds each--i'll buy real hand weights when i am back in the states, maybe some time this fall). i have made wise food choices today. and i have no idea what tomorrow will look like! wishing everyone a delightful weekend that nourishes your bodies, minds, and spirits. emoticon

emoticon , martha. emoticon a laudable achievement, for sure. i try to be mindful of the bigger picture--more beneficial choices in my life and fewer destructive ones, but i do tend to default to the scale numbers to evaluate my success, which is not always helpful, even when the scale is kind. yippee that your are celebrating two years of a healthier lifestyle!

My NSV has been over two years of healthy eating. While I'm happy that I lost weight, I am proud that I have changed the way I eat to regularly choose real food, lots of plants, and less of it!

I bought myself a jump rope today and used it for 30 minutes while listening to music.

My doctor told me " I would not advise losing any more weight" and called me a success story today.

Saw the candy thread! I love chocolate, but my biggest craving is salty chips with guacamole. I will by-pass the candy for chips and dip.

Today, I did not let the girls school delay derail my gym time. Still got to the gym for treadmill and 60 minutes of ST.

nell, i appreciate your wisdom and tenacity. i love reese's AND butterfingers (didn't know about the combo candy, and i WON'T be looking for it!) and all sorts of candy, and i consider it a real victory when i can pass them up. good for you for advanced planning and perseverance!

btw, on this day in 1971, my dad moved us (the family) to los angeles from maryland (after a decade in northern virginia), and i'll be off now to email him, as i do each year, the biggest thank you for that decision! virginia is a great place to visit, but i would not want to live there! too, too cold! emoticon

Julie, I live in Virginia, and it's been a cold winter. Reeses are one of the things I cannot eat at all; they start that craving I can live without. There is a difference between anticipation and craving. I'll plan and prepare, and enjoy anticipation. No food is worth fighting a craving.

Of course, there was an ad on the Superbowl about Butterfinger Reeses. I've never heard of that, and I guess I'll never have one. Or 20, more like.

nell, if you were in a hot climate (are you?) with access to a freezer (or a small ice chest or thermal bag), i would suggest frozen grapes, but cold food is anathema to me in a cold climate. if you do indulge, please do yourself a huge favor and ENJOY and SAVOR the treat; otherwise, it is not really a treat! emoticon

Was strong enough to get on and off the boat (snorkeling trip) without any assistance from anyone!

Airplane bathroom and seats are almost ROOMY now, compared to how they used to feel!

hi, all. once again, i was way off my routine today, and although my beau and i accomplished some important tasks this afternoon, i was left with 2.5 hours of exercise time instead of my preferred 3+. i am still oriented toward cardio, especially if i have not done my non-cardio (abs, stretching, resistance bands) first thing in the day (not the optimum decision, i know), so i decided i would try to up my pace for my whole jog, and was successful! i felt myself really pushing, and was happy to see that my SPAT reflected my increased effort. i averaged a tad over 4mph for 160 straight minutes, which i believe is a personal best. the impact on my body is hard (i am so NOT a runner!), so i won't be doing that again any time soon, but i was sure happy i achieved that nsv today! thanks for listening.

after a day off exercise yesterday, put in over 40,000 steps, over 16 miles, over 4.5 hours of jogging today. so far (the hardest few hours are still ahead of me), am in my calorie range for first time in eons.

Wow! Went dress shopping yesterday and I tried on 12 dresses in 20 to 30 minutes. It was so much fun to be able to zip them all up and choose which one looked good and not just pick one that I could squeeze into. I cannot remember feeling this good when I go clothes shopping. It is an amazing feeling and one that I will not get tired of any time soon! emoticon emoticon emoticon

My husband was discharged last night. There was no acute event this time, but the cat scan and MRI showed continued deterioration of the blood vessels in his brain, directly attributable to diabetes. You read about all the possible problems related to diabetes, but it never seems real until you see the MRI after the damage is done.

I only ate one meal yesterday, eggs and toast, nothing else. When stress related to fear hits, I just don't eat.
