My new norm is fitting into size 12 instead of extra large. I love to walk the dogs and exercise at the gym. I feel deprived if I can not go for a week. I love eating healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. Linda from bean town

OH MY! What Tina-Jane said!!!! Since joining spark I don't think I really ever felt that I would lose control and go back to my old ways of binge eating. I may have had days that I wasn't anywhere near "perfect" but I knew that I could stop and choose to be on track at that moment. Of course, that moment was invariably the next morning but that was okay and I always tracked my food. It has been such a sense of relief! My new norm is getting up in the morning weighing, dressing in my workout clothes eating breakfast and logging in my tracker what I will be eating that day. After coffee I walk my sister to her workout center and then I finish walking to mine. At that point I have already walked almost 2.5 miles. Then I begin my workout and strength training. Thank goodness I am retired or I might not have time for other things! LOL

I like fitting into skinny jeans and nice fitting clothes instead of pull on elastic waist pants. I enjoy going to the gym/pool and working out and socializing with the other members. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Oh yeah. ... the water. ...I am never without a water bottle in hand and if I have to go more than an hour without water I feel like I am shriveling up and dying of thirst.

Although I'm not technically in the maintenance phase but surging towards it, I love the fact that I eat when I'm hungry now, not out of boredom or stress or any other emotion that I might be entertaining. Also, it's become habit to drink eight glasses of water a day, and I make sure I add some form of fruit or vegetable to every meal. When I did "indulge" last week, I only ordered a single serving (230 calories) and found it was more than enough to satisfy the craving I had for that particular indulgence. I also do not have any form of junk food in my house because I simply do not crave it and find I prefer healthy foods instead.

I like fitting into my current size clothes. I have been focusing on getting my exercise minutes in each day. It is becoming a passion, even though I am not really liking the exercising. It is clear that the weight stays off if I MOVE. Otherwise I fall into bad eating habits. Still trying to make a good choices a habit.

My new norm is craving healthy foods, drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day, exercising daily, running 3 to 4 times a week, and staying within my calorie and weight range. It is now a way of life and I don't have to think much about how to stay healthy.

I rarely eat "unhealthy" foods and if I do, it's a taste. I've found that "a taste" is all I really need to satisfy the craving. In fact, I rarely want food that would be considered "junk."

It's been a great journey and learning experience. I plan on continuing this journey for the rest of my life! Here's to a healthy lifestyle!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my fruits and vegetables. Even when I do indulge in a "splurge meal", it never feels or tastes right without a healthy serving of freggies.

Every morning I weigh myself and say to myself "I need to get on track! This few pounds I need to lose just will NOT budge!" And then I realize that I have been on track, there is no more I can do and that my stubborn body just likes being where it is.
It used to be so easy to go on a diet and lose 10-20 pounds, now this old body just says 'PFFFT! I'm not falling for that again!"

My biggest 'norm' is the exercise. I always hated it, but now feel like a sloth if I don't get in a couple of hours of movement each day!

I always thought I HATED vegetables!! I actually am delighted to learn I love them!! Salads are super-every changing and never boring!!! Eating well really do feel good!
I love that we are able to learn, and do better at any age/at any time.
As "they" have always said, maintenance is a lifelong pursuit--and I find it a worthy goal :)

It's so comforting to know we are all developing the same strong feelings about our progress and that we have embraced our lifestyle changes. I can pass a table of treats now OR choose to take something and not feel guilty. I, too, feel more and more like someone in control, or a "normal" person. Parking farther from my destination feels normal, and not like something I need to brag about or pat myself on the back for. I enjoy moving, eating veggies (this is so mind boggling for someone who balked at them my whole life!), and shopping for clothes! Sometimes I wonder at who I am.

I agree. I've found that many of the changes I made along the way have become my new habits.

I now easily plan healthy meals without even thinking about it. If I have a lunch or dinner without at least one serving of veggies it doesn't feel right. I love that !

Exercise has become a regular part of my day and I make sure to make time for something most days of the week, even though I have to modify what I do or how long I do it. I focus on exercise that I enjoy and that keeps me going.

I'd have to say that my favorite new habit is the healthy eating. It feels so good to "want" to choose healthy and do it without thinking.

pooh-What an amazing thing-to be wheelchair free!!! I am happy for you! WOW- a real life changer!!!

I do still find myself a bit fearful of going too far outside my "comfort zone" with food-the old thoughts are still there-that if I eat something "bad" it might start the slippery slope---but, I am hoping the longer I am HERE, ( here being healthy and maintaining) the easier that will get too?!!!
This is good stuff, yes????

I agree with TinaJanet and i like the fact that i have learned that i control food and it doesn't control me. I also allow myself to enjoy special occassions but have learned how to do so in moderation. I enjoy the taste of good healthy food and enjoy exercising. for me the biggest joy is not being confined to a wheelchair anymore as my new me can tolerate the weight on my joints.

I think what I like best is feeling confident that, when I do stray from my usual plan for a bit, whether it's on vacation or the holidays or just for one meal, I'm able to get back on track reasonably easily. In past, I had always allowed big events to totally derail me and those would be starting points for regain. I've learned that I can loosen the reins a bit sometimes as long as I don't let that loosening be too often. I can partake in holiday festivities and other special events and eat what I want on vacation as long as I'm mindful of the fact that not every day is a holiday, special occasion or vacation. I feel like I function much more like a so-called normal person these days and and am more in control over my food and weight-related demons. Time and experience has taught me that the sky doesn't fall because of one bad meal, one bad day or even several bad days and that obsessive behavior is often the most counterproductive in the longer term.

I was walking last night, and it made me so happy to realize so many of my "new" habits are REALLY habits now!! I was tickled pink to think about the changes-
how much I love exercising and being active/how much I enjoy really good food that tastes wonderful and is good for me/how much I appreciate having a stronger, leaner, healthier body and most of all how my thinking has changed-I am now thinking like a real, live healthy person!!!!
Just wondering what other maintainers have found as their new norm, and what they like the best????
It is a great thing to wake up feeling good :)
