What an interesting discussion. I've been trying to figure out the same thing. In the last year, i've exercised and ate pretty well and gained 15 pounds, then over the last couple months, have only lost like 3 pounds. I took my SP report of calories/activity and showed her and she checked my thyroid and did bloodwork to see if there is a medical reason. I've been trying to eat a little different (translating cheating a little) because I'm sick of not losing so I enjoyed reading the different opinions on this board. I swear, I will never get to my goal! emoticon

RPCLEM2000,

I add high quality fat to my diet by pouring one Tablespoon of first-cold-pressed, extra-virgin olive oil over my dinner each night. Adds wonderful flavor! Now I am addicted to it. My favorite brand is "Lucini" which is available at health food stores. This adds 120 calories to the day, but is well worth it.

If you are not consuming enough fat, you might want to try it.

Yesterday, August 10th, I burned 710 more calories that I ate, according to SP's Daily Calorie Differential Report.

Love it!

Since I have decided to lower my goal weight by a few more pounds, I will continue to accumulate calorie deficits on **most** days. When I decide to really and truly maintain, I will start out with a small daily calorie deficit of about 100 to 200 calories per day, and see how it goes.

This journey has been healthy, fun and easy, so I have no problem continuing on to a slightly lower weight. I have gone from 152 on April 13th to 134.5 today.

Of course these are "theoretical/calorie deficit" pounds lost; but the count is pretty accurate, based on what I see in the mirror, and how my clothes are fitting.

Celebrate every day of success!

Well I finished reading the articles that I think I needed. I need to up my calories SLOWLY, up my Monounsaturated oils a bit and up my complex carbs a lot.

Evidently if you don't eat enough carbs your body uses your protein to burn and is not available to build and repair the muscle. I was wondering why I was working and not building up my muscles much and why I never got hungry and forget to eat I will start modifying my diet and see what happens. If I gain weight for awhile I'm not going about it as long as it doesn't get over 10 lbs because I know once everything evens out I will lose it again.

Very glad I have my questions answered. Pam emoticon emoticon emoticon

That sounds great. I need to eat some complex carbs. I don't eat enough fat so I think am going to get some fish oil supplements. I think if I just keep up my exercise routine and sleep and drink water then eating an extra 100 cals shouldn't make me gain weight. I start tomorrow. Wish me luck. emoticon

I'm almost 5'3" and weigh currently about 123, but my goal was 115...I've been as low as 113. I have a fairly sedentary job and "run cool" (slow burning metabolism). If you're 50 pounds heavier and more active you'd need quite a bit more than I do! Unfortunately, I WANT to eat in your calorie range, but don't want to exercise enough to justify it. I find it hard to eat few enough calories without being under in nutrients or just plain hungry. I've heard a lot of people in your situation try to add maybe 50-100 calories for a week or so and see how they do. That's like 1-2 pieces of fruit...slowly, slowly, you can convince your body that the famine is over and it doesn't have to hang on for dear life to every ounce!

ONEWEIGH,

Do you mind if I ask your weight and height? My range is 1600-1900 and I can't imagine eating that much. I'm going to have to figure out how to eat more cals without eating the wrong things and gaining weight. I weigh between 171-175. It depends on how much water I'm carrying which varies from day to day. I've been reading an article that someone else sent to me. I now know I'm in starvation mode. I also know that if I just start eating like I should then I will instantly gain weight. I'm going to have play a delicate balancing game for awhile.

Thanks for the information.

Pam, I had a nutritionist tell me that 1250 calories was as low as anyone should go. My maintenance range is the same as my loss range, 1250-1550. I've been topping out of it a few days a week and that has been enough for me to gain almost 10 pounds (depends on the day...) Can we say, "Dangers of a little laxness and too little exercise"? My birthday week vacation is now underway. I hope I can get a lot done and not celebrate too much with food.

HELP

I've been eating about 1200-1300 cals a day not including exercise. I exercise and burn 300-500 almost every day. My plan says I should be eating 1600-1900 per day without calculating in the exercise. I'm in plan on protein most days. My fat and carbs are usually under plan, often by a lot. I do know that if you do not eat enough you go into starvation mode. I just don't know how many cals is not enough.

Is my body likely in starvation mode? Does the lack of carbs and fat effect the exercise and my body. I don't feel tired during the day and my mood is up on most days.

If you know anything about this or can tell me where to go, please let me know.

Please help. emoticon Pam. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Late check-in today. Yesterday was my sis' birthday, so it was work, then pick her up for dinner (shared a too big desert, but back on track today. Got up for a walk with friends, then PT, then a short nap while laundry was in and now getting ready for work 2-11. Work tomorrow 10-7, so my little sis will be in town to occupy big sis for Saturday and we will get togethter on Sunday for the "official" family birthday celebration.

Hoping everyone has a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Late check-in this morning - I was really slammed for time today! Finally taking a short break. I have a daunting amount of paperwork before me today and very little interest in doing it. I'm going to do my best to stay focused on it so I can move into a fun weekend without a bunch of work looming over my head. Among other things, I get to go clothes shopping, a task I used to dread, but am now looking forward to. I enjoy the size I am right now, and getting clothes that show that off definitely feels good!

Happy Friday!

Good morning team.
Playing hooky to take the girls to the pool. Or not :( It's super overcast and cool out. Makes me so sad because the pool is only open for one more week.
Ate way too much salt yesterday and the scale is up. Will focus on plenty of water. Taking a rest day today as I have a race tomorrow.

Thomasina, hope you get better news from the doctor.

Have a great vacation, Oneweigh!

Enjoy your reunion, Bess!

KTisfocused, you are very welcome here! The team is for transitioners as well as for maintainers.

Had my next-to-last swim lesson yesterday, though it seemed like it wouldn't happen. I arranged to leave work early to ensure the commuter bus would get me to my lot in time to drive to the rec center. Wouldn't you know there was an accident in the HOV lanes, and there is no pull-off area due to construction. We crawled, stopped, crawled, stopped.... What should have been a 15-minute trip took 45. I called the rec center from the bus to cancel and decided to go there anyway and practice. My instructor saw me, and though she had another class to teach and couldn't take me then, she introduced me to another really great instructor who had a break between students, so I got a super lesson anyway!

Hi Team
It's going to be a busy shopping day as we head for our nearest "large" town to do lots of things all at once.. lots of stops here and there..

I had a good day yesterday and have been spending time cleaning up the flower beds, cutting back the dried up flowers.. we are having an extremely dry summer..

Stomach woes have been less.. yeahhhhh

Good morning, team! So great to hear from you about your hard work. KTIS - glad you are here!

Kudos on two years of maintenance, Maree. You remind me to keep on keeping on. I'm so glad you show up here so often to remind us what it takes to be consistent, as well as the rewards.

Muggy day in VA. Got in an early walk with my fitness buddy and am looking forward to swimming later. I'll need water--reliable way to suck the humidity out of a body.

Looking forward to an active weekend. Toni

Hey all. TGIF. I'm trying to catch up on everyone's posts from yesterday. I was down and out! I hope everyone is doing well today and challenges will be overcome.

I asked myself this morning how I want to look back on this weekend on Monday. Will I post that I need to hit the reset button or will I post about some good activity and smart eating?

It's go time!

Just wanted to let you know I often check in on threads on this team even though I haven't made it to goal. I'm still about 15 or more pounds away but I hope someday to be there. My weight has been stuck for so long, in fact I'm getting some testing done to see if there might be a reason for that. I actually took in my SP calories in and burned report to show the doc that I'm doing what I need to with no results.

Anyway, just thought i would check in since I've been rather quiet. Keep up the good work, all of you maintainers. You're showing us how it's done so thank you.

Oh DC. I think you'll love your Farberware coffee maker. I LOVE mine. And Maree - congratulations on GD's birthday! What a happy time. And for maintaining for 2 years too.

I really pushed myself doing weights yesterday, even though my trainer had an emergency and had to cancel our session. It paid off on the ActiveLink monitor too. which is good since I've been stress eating all week long. Still at goal but I feel the weight creep.

But one of my stressors is gone now - the Family Movie Night at work last night - where the children in the movie making class debuted their film was a huge success. Yay staff who taught the class and Yay kids who made the movie. I'm so proud of them all.

And today is a day off as I get ready for the family reunion tomorrow. whoop whoop.

Happy Friday to one and all.

Bright and early as usual. Came in at 134.8. Up 1.6 pounds from yesterday and I worked by butt off yesterday. Sometime to much exercise can be counter productive. It's a bummer but, I'm still below my goal weight and I'm sure it will go down again

Chest day today -- Then outside for a little yard work.

Trying to limit caffeine. So I switched to decaf coffee yesterday morning and I'm trying the same today. Seem to bea little calmer.

New coffee maker still in the box that I need to set up shortly. Never had a Faberware but will be giving it a try considering Mt Coffee makers just don't seem to be what they use to be. They have become real cheap.

Anyway, Godspeed to all.

Good morning! It's Friday! And it's starting out great! Scale at 148.5 BMI 23.2. Friday morning is usually my lowest weight of the week, but there's something rewarding about being under 150. Yesterday a friend complimented me on my weight loss--something us maintainers don't hear as much as those who are losing weight. In thanking her, I was quick to add "...have maintained it for over 2 yrs now." {{ pride :)) }}

Granddaughter's 2 yr birthday today...ah, the memories of her preemie arrival--so, so grateful she is healthy and just love her to pieces.

30 min elliptical, 60 min RIPPED class at the gym this morning, headed to the River at 2:00. I hope WIFI works better -- I have some messaging to catch up on. If I'm MIA, that will be the reason.

Hope each and every one of you has a happy and healthy Friday!
