Life is a series of decisions... I decide every day whether I will eat on-plan or not, but at the end of the day, the days I ate on-plan are my happiest!!!!

Best of luck to you,

The official weight range considered "healthy" is HUGE! The weight that would give you a BMI of anywhere from 18.5 to 25 is so large that we usually laugh, but it's all healthy. Within that range, it's a personal (and style) consideration.

Brittney, you have been under a lot of stress lately, and now your weight fears are adding more. How about stepping back from the weight stress and concentrating on maintaining your current weight while handling the rest of what life is throwing at you. You are special just the way you are, and as others have said, you may decide in the future to lose more.

I was heavy and my doctor told me I have an under active thyroid. I was put on medication and lost more weight. I was also depressed and think I lost weight because of the depression also. I had less of a reason to eat. I drink more water, eat less and feel better. Best wishes, Linda from bean town

I chose to think positively. You will be thinner and feel good. You may not be at a prefect weight but It is really about how you feel. I weighed 110 pounds in my twenties and I was too thin. My bones where sticking out. I am now a 123.5 and feel good. I would like to be 120 pounds but I can not seem to get there. I am working on getting there. I really can't add much, but I agree with the comments! I personally believe you need to pick a weight that YOU are happy with. Some people like being thin, but others would rather have a few extra pounds and be able to eat some of "their forbidden foods."

I've also read that as we age it's sometimes better to have 5 to 10 extra pounds in case one gets ill. That "extra" weight is a "buffer."

Again, it's up to you! Do what you feel is right for you! emoticon

I would feel more comfortable with a lower weight that I'm currently having. Probalby, it would be the same effort to be in maintenance mode at this lower weight. However, to get there, would need "work". I thought I could any time start that, but probably I need more preparation for that. Like a new "mini-weight loss diet program".

There are lots of great comments here already and I definitely agree with the achievable vs. sustainable argument. I could definitely achieve a weight that's lower than where I'm at now, but I probably couldn't sustain it based on my current lifestyle. I live a full, active life that includes a lot of socializing. Although I do make certain sacrifices to maintain my weight, I do want to enjoy some of the food and drinks that are involved in my social activities so I maintain at a weight that allows me to do that without too much stress. I'm healthy and happy where I am, so there's really no need for me to shoot for something lower.

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

I decided to maintain BEFORE reaching my goal weight--cause my body seemed to be saying "I'm happy here". I'd like to lose another 5 pounds but do NOT want to spend ALL my free time worrying about more exercise and exactly what else can I eat. So--now I just try to stay below 150!! You need to decide what works for you and remember you can lose more weight in the future after sitting at this number for awhile!

You have to enjoy LIVING, not just working at the healthy lifestyle.

You are SO not alone. I too, have been struggling. As a matter of fact, I've been avoiding the scales, but I'm pretty sure I'm up at least 10 lbs. Since I've already had 3 cups of water and a cup of coffee, I'm going to wait and weigh in tomorrow. I will then log in the numbers on my spark people account and make a plan. I'm giving myself a personal goal of losing at least 5 lbs by July 4th. Who's in with me for a challenge?

Great idea to check out the Big Page of Links. I think that distinction between "achievable" and "sustainable" is SO important. If it's not sustainable, what's the point?

I recommend spending about an hour on our team's "Big Page of Links". There's an article about achievable weight loss vs. sustainable weight loss that I found helpful as well as many articles on what is a good weight goal. As others have said, it is a personal decision only you can make. I was struggling to stay at goal weight, and then resolved to accurately track my nutrition and stop guessing--reality check.

Best wishes to you

It is a personal decision my range has change Now I am back to lose a few extra and maintain at a little bit lower weight then last year As long as you are happy where you are then don't worry about if not then I would revamp your workout and nutrition plan You alone are the one who has to be happy with what you decide

I started with a maintenance goal that seemed reasonable to me, even though it was ten pounds higher than what my doctor had recommended when my first child was born. I arrived there and stayed slightly below and then lost more just exercising and "eating clean" without a new weight goal. I lost about five more and stayed there for a year and then started losing again, probably because I upped my exercise for fitness reasons. I am about twenty lbs. lower than my original goal. I would recommend setting a very doable goal and then try maintaining at that point for a while. Set new goals if you feel you want to lose more. Find the weight you are comfortable at and then try maintaining for life. Maintenance always takes some work, but it shouldn't be so overwhelming you miss out on living your life.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. I'd like to lose 10 lbs that I've regained over the last couple of months, but my body and circumstances are preventing that from happening and so I'm going with the flow and reminding myself of the 170 I've lost. I'm not worried about this 10 lbs. It it comes off, it does. If not, and as long as I don't continue to gain, I'm fine with it. Good luck!

I agree that it's a completely personal decision. Another thing to consider is that it's always good to work on maintaining, no matter at what weight, since most people around us are gaining! Maintaining ANY weight loss is quite a victory in my book, and that is the ultimate goal, no matter which weight we choose to maintain at.

I think it's more important for the loss to be sustainable, than to be able to continue losing.

i agree that it is a personal issue and it is up to you and your body what your comfortable at. I would like to lose 5 more lbs but my body seems to like where i'm at and so i'm just doing what i know is right and will take it day by day. If the 5lbs come off fine and if not fine. I'm still proud of the 106 lbs that I lost an keeping off.

I'm with you in this struggle. Doing better, but still a good bit over what I have thought would be a good maintenance weight. Just don't think I'm ready to "settle" for more...or should I say less? :-)

I agree wholeheartedly! It's up to each of us to choose our own goals and then choose to either do what it takes to reach them or examine both the goal and what habits we've formed to see if they are in harmony with what we really want. I've stayed in my goal range for 6 years now by reminding myself every day of how good it feels to be slim, healthy and active even if it's not as easy at the age of 82 as it was when I was younger. emoticon

You CAN be any weight you want to be, but you have to decide what you are willing to do to stay there. As we age, we have to eat less to stay the same weight, and no amount of exercise can change that. If you want a certain weight badly enough to maintain a low weight you'll be able to do it. But what if you don't? So what? Only you can decide what you are willing to do. There is no chart to tell you, and this isn't a competition. If you want to maintain at a higher level, then that's what you do. It's a very personal decision, and you'll change your mind as you live your life, and that's OK. Whatever you do, you need to be happy with your decision, and it's YOUR decision. Let no one judge you but you!!
