Goals keep me going too. I've stayed at the same weight now for 3 weeks or so, the longest period of staying the same I've had in 6 mo. I'd like to lose some more but my main goal is to build muscle and increase the amount I can lift. Getting stronger is so empowering!

When you say "Yes" to something, you include something you do want in your experience. When you say "No" to something, you include something you don't want in your experience.

Changing your priorities or goal is a good strategy. I took the fitness quize today and found that I am a Goal Getter, so creating new goals as I reach them is something I plan to do. I have met my goal weight. Next is my goal waist....

My range is now my maintenance range.

I have found that the best thing to do is continue to change my priorities! For now, I have decided that I need to start working on endurance because I have to take my military PT test in June - run 1.5 miles and do as many crunches and sit ups as I can in 1 min/ea. They also measure my waist and take my weight for a BMI calculation. I don't have to worry about THOSE any more, thank goodness. At my heaviest, my waist was about 32.5 and now it stays around 27.5. After my PT, I will work on losing a few more pounds in the weeks before I go on vacation.

Weight is not a priority anymore. I don't weigh myself nearly as much as I used too. What is important to me now is gaining muscles. When I start running again in the upcoming weeks I will probably eat more too just so I can keep up with all the cardio.

Weight is a priority in that it is a measure of how I am doing overall. If I continue to eat healthy and exercise regularly I could still slip by eating too much...and I am far less strict than I was while losing so I have to check ...right now I'm up but within my range...hoping to get a bit closer to the middle though not actually trying either.

Linda, at 5'5' I feel really thin at 120! I cannot imagine being able to get that low even with my fairly small frame...you must be a tiny wisp of a thing!!! Hope you get a good report from the doc so you can get a bit of training in...I know it gives me lots of energy too, along with some muscle. I wish I'd started sooner...I would love to have seen my body at 35 with this level of activity...I would be buff!!

It's a balancing act...I think it is important to keep focus on health but remember the weight is what got me started on the journey and I want to keep it where it is...not to be obsessive with it, but to keep track. I weigh myself weekly at home, once a month is my official Weight Watcher weigh-in. In any other situation, like a doctor visit, I just tend to ignore the scale...although when it was low I was kinda liking weighing 122 fully dressed!!!

Having struggled with being overweight most of my adult life, I never thought I'd look at myself in the mirror and think "yikes, getting a little boney." My situation is quite different from yours in that my diet is extremely restricted due to some medical problems. According to my doctors, if I maintain my weight at no more than 110, it will help control some of the problems I have with my health. BUT I have continued to lose and am beginning to feel TOO thin even though doctors are okay until I get into lower 100's. BUT they have made me quit doing any physical activity so that I do not burn any extra calories. I'm on a very high protein supplement - I cannot eat meat and can eat very, very little fat (cannot digest it without MAJOR pain).

So, that part of my situation is quite opposite of yours! Hopefully, when I go back for my check-up this week, they will let me try some strengh exercise because I'm losing what small amount of muscle I had.

I am 5'2" and yes, it is getting noticeable at this weight. My bones are getting edgy. Does that make sense? I don't want to weight this, and I am eating. I have been feeling guilty because all week I have been struggling to hit my bottom range of 1460, but that is a fair amount of calories if you are eating sensibly. Spaghetti 2 nights, chicken, ice cream even. And lots of veggies and fruit versus all of the breads and starches like most people. I am just so tired of having to make a show for people when I eat. I out eat my husband most days and have to point that out to him. I have also logged 21 miles this week running and have done 3 days of ST and some elliptical. I am just glad I have some people who understand. Seems like I have my furnace/metabolism on high is all and with the amout of exercise I get and nervous energy I have. I get tired of apologizing for being thin and small boned. Geez!

Sorry to rant. I am actually in tears writing this. It is just so old to me and I am only going to run more throughout the summer training for longer races. I am kind of at a loss. I just don't want to eat all the crap I used to, and I eat until I am full and do that 3 times per day with 1-2 snacks. I guess I just need to add more fat back in and start on some protein additives. And adjust my cals a bit higher.

Thanks for listening!

My weight is coming back to the forefront a bit. I am still dropping and don't want to. I am getting to thin. It was bad enough having to defend every thing said and make a big deal out of waving a french fry at someone to prove I eat at 110, but at 106 it is getting harder.

I try not to get hung up on the weight, but I feel like you. I was heavier than I wanted to be for so many years, I'm afraid of gaining it back. I try to watch my waist measurement more than the pounds because I wouldn't mind adding a little muscle. I just don't want to grow any "love handles"

I still weigh myself a couple of times a week, and I want to keep up w/ the food trackers, etc. for at least 6 months.

Even though, like many of you are saying here, I feel like I've integrated a lot of healthy habits into my life, I am still afraid of regaining weight. I've lost weight before and gained it all back, and each of those times I thought it was for good...

This time, I want to be sure.

Physical fitness is now the priority and maintaining healthy eating patterns. Since I can tell how I'm doing by how my clothes fit, the scale really isn't the best indicator anymore, although I am sure I'll use it periodically.

Still a priority because it is synonomous with wellness for me. I also made enough of an investment in a new wardrobe to keep it fitting nicely.

I'm at a place where I do not have to weigh daily and healthy living is a habit so I enjoy the fact that I know what to do to maintain now! Love that part of this! I'm close to my points goal by the end of the month I'll be there and will be taking a break from sp because of the nice weather I can get plenty of exercise doing yard work and other outside
activies and I'll keep doing my fitness walking for at least 35 min. daily and weekly hikes.

How are you doing?

I'm like everyone else - yes and no. I want to maintain this healthy weight for me long term. But the other goals that I'm focusing on specifically are valuable on their own, and are instrumental (secondarily) in maintaining the weight. I used to see them as useful only so far as getting me to goal weight was concerned.

I want to eat more fruits and vegetables...get in enough exercise to maintain my present muscle tone and energy...avoid joint replacement surgery for as long as possible by exercising and keeping the weight down...and have the constant reminders to get enough sleep and pay attention to all the other aspects of a quality life that I now feel is within my grasp.

Yes and no. I stay on top of it so I can continue to learn for now. I find now that I run to run. Not to lose the weight. I am injured right now and have not run in a bit over a week. i had to cut out the ellipitcal this weekend too. I am pretty much crawling the walls right now and kind of find it humorous since a year ago I wouldn't have cared at all. I am very worried that I am losing precious time to train for my 1/2 in May. It has tempted me to eat from the stress, but I have held strong and learned a bit more about myself. I guess with taht elnghty answer maybe the actual number isn't so important after all.

I work out now to get into better shape and to maintain the cardio strength I have gained. Weight is not my priority. I am doing a strength and definition building program called MAX-OT to build muscle. I also do my cardio so that I can pass my fitness test in June, but I do it all year long for overall health and fitness. My clothes fit great and as long as I am buying Size 4, I am okay! (Just a side note - I love Tommy Hilfiger clothes because I can wear a Size 2 and they fit great too!)

It is and it isn't... I now workout for the energy and memory it gives me. Before I started working out I was forgetting everythng (it was awful!) and feeling very lethargic (granted some of this was from the added weight). Now on the days I workout, I feel like a million bucks. I'm hooked!

Also I'm in it to eat better so that I feel better overall. When I changed over to more complex carbs, more fruits and vegetables, more water, I started to have less low blood sugar moments...

I do still care about staying at the size I'm at, but I've learned so much that it is much more than that now!

Good question!

Shani

I've backslidden... I reached my goal and was now maintaining, but now I need to lose 10 pounds and firm up.

Of course when I started out, my goal was to lose weight. That's the reason I started running too. But somewhere along the way, the running became more important to me. A big part of what keeps me motivated is my running program. I get up at 5 am and go for a run not because I want to burn the calories, but because I'm training for a half marathon. Losing weight has helped me run faster and free of injury. It will also help me maintain my weight. If it weren't for running, I could probably cut down a lot on my exercise now that I've reached my weight goal, but instead I eat more so that I can run more.
