I also extend my sympathy regarding your husband's diagnosis. My mother had Alzheimer's. Remember to use the resources available to you Irene. Take care of yourself!.

Irene - I'm a Health Care Aide so I strongly suggest when it gets to the point he can't be left alone to use someone in my profession for Respite care. We give the caregiver a break on a regular basis :o)
I'm trying to get back into working out. I got a new job last Aug and having to start at 7am has made my workouts very sporatic. 5am is just too early for me to workout and is too noisy for my poor family! I find though that if I don't workout first thing that I just don't do it. When I get home from work (1pm) there's laundry and housework and lots of other things to do before the kids get home.
So last week I got mad and decided I can't change what time I start work so I'm just going to ignore everything when I get home except my Wii and my running gear! So far so good - wish me luck. I am using Post to Facebook for both Spark and my Runtastic app so everyone sees when I workout and when I don't! Good incentive for me :o)

Run faster, run farther until you hit the wall of realization that you CAN do anything you put your mind to!

Irene, I hope you find answers to all your questions as they arise, it is hard to face new potentially intense health issues with your spouse. We will be here for you, as you know.

I've pushed through some rough days with urges to eat out of emotion, especially with the potential of binges. I am going to write a blog about the adventure I had with cupcakes in the grocery store yesterday.

Have a great and sane eating day today!

Irene, I echo the concern of others. Hugs and blessings as you face the challenges of your husband's health, and please take care of YOU.

Great Monday staying on the low end of my calorie range and walking over 15,000 steps. Then night fell. Our house alarm failed just before 1 am, when I'd been asleep for about 2.5 hours. I got up to tend to it but was afraid to try to arm it and bypass the bad sensor, so I left it unarmed. By then I was worrying that something happened to cause the failure, so I left lights on and lay awake watching the cat, ears perked up, staring alternately down the hall and toward the window. My ears kept "hearing" noises that were either nor real or the normal settling of the house. Finally fell asleep just before the alarm clock went off and dreamed about someone in the house (DH was away). Turned off the alarm and woke with a start after 7:30. Wrenched my back jumping out of bed and have felt groggy all morning.

Irene, so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. My thoughts and prayers are with you both as well as your family. He is very blessed to have you in his life, especially at this time. Please, don't forget to take care of yourself, and let others care for you too. Remember, water can't flow from an empty well....allow God, family and friends to pour into you too!

Feeling better about the scale again--since it seems to be on a downward trend after my 5 pound gain over the last 2 months.
Made it to the gym yesterday after work! It had been over a week, so it was a mission to get there!

Nan, I have a recipe for lemonade. I also have heard that there are some pretty good drugs out there right now for Alzheimers early stages. You are most surely in my thoughts and prayers.

We are going to a wake tonight. One of our firemen lost his wife to cancer. We had a benefit planned for this Saturday, her birthday. She passed this last Saturday.

I've been very bad. Too many cookies for the Cookie Monster. My injury is healing nicely and I should be easing back into my routine. Without motivation, determination and discipline should be at the front of my mind. The front of my mind must be a capacious space as I can't seem to locate the double D's.

Thinking about my maintainers who are facing challenges this morning. Try to focus on the things that you can control. Success there seems to make the rest easier to bear.

I woke up at 5 for a run. Halfway through I was so exhausted. I slowed down a little and finished, but it was a real struggle. Wasn't sure what the problem was, then I remembered that I didn't get to bed until 10:30. Not conducive to a 5 am workout. Duh. Had a healthy breakfast and have healthy meals/snacks planned the rest of the day.

We have snow! It has been a super mild winter here and it is coming down big time! It is the wet, slushy kind though and its not super cold so the roads aren't icy, which I am grateful for.

Everyone have a great day!

Had an abysmal day or two nutritionally....afraid to even get on the scale. Sad part is that it is completely emotionally triggered. I let a toxic person in my life get the best of me and the rest is history, or at least as of this morning, I hope that it is history. This is a whole new lesson for me to learn. I cannot remove that person from my life, so I will have to learn to set clearer and stronger boundaries. Any ideas?

Irene--I'm so sorry to hear your news. Please take care of yourself as you take care of him, and don't try to go it alone. You will need time away occasionally. Not enough sleep last night--home from rehearsal at 9:15, watched the second half of Sunday's Downton Abbey episode, then did bedtime chores and then couldn't resist reading for a half hour or so in bed.

Sorry to hear about that Nan. You'll be in my thoughts.

I woke up 20 minutes late (didn't reset my alarm), but managed to still get everything done - including my workout! - and got out the door in enough time to walk rather than run to the bus. It was a wee bit stressful, but I'm feeling like a boss right now. Having my meals planned out already definitely helps because I can just grab and go. I've also been saving muffins from the weekend to eat on these mornings when I have to come into work early so I don't have to mess with trying to preparing oatmeal when I have no time.

Anyway, need to get focused on work now. Hope you all have a great Tuesday.

Good Morning!

Irene-Sorry to hear about your DH.

BIGPAWSUP-I've wanted to ditch the scale too, but just haven't been able to. Maybe once the weather warms up and I start spending alot more time outdoors I will feel more comfortable about doing it.

Follow up Dr. appt today. Plus I have to get a really good workout in so I can get rid of the extra post surgery pounds I put on.

Have a great day!

Good morning all. Sorry I've been in my own little world for the last month or so. I'm really trying to break out of it.

I've decided to ditch the scale for a month and just try to get a good plan in motion to work. I did this once and I can do it again.

Irene, I join the others in offering sympathy about your husband's diagnosis and hope you find all the support you need.

I'm getting a very late start this morning. I didn't even wake up until almost 7 and can't remember the last time that happened. I'm always awake before sunrise.

Following my plan, since today is Tuesday I'll run the "loop" in town circling it till I reach 5 miles. The weather is cooperating and it's already mid 40s and sunny - my kind of day.

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.

I'm going to only be sporadic in checking in here the next couple of weeks because I have so much going on with work right now. I'm hanging in there, still in my weight range, and thankful that my first therapy appointment is this morning.

Hope all is well with you guys, and I'll be around a lot more come March. :)

Good morning, team.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis, Irene. I know the path from my mom and an uncle. As hard as it was there were also many blessed days when I felt close to them. Of course there were very difficult times too. Thinking of you and hoping you find support and real hugs when you need them. I hope our team remains a good place for you to be and stay healthy.

I hope everyone has a good day on their Spark path. The change in Irene's life makes me realize once again how important it is for us to do our best here.

Nan, I am so sorry about your husband, my mom had Alzheimers and it isn't an easy diagnosis to deal with - please look for a support group in your area as well as involving family and friends in taking care of him. And yourself!

Today - went a bit over, and not quite enough protein to make me happy - but I'm dealing with surgery next week and trying to not just curl up and hide, which is my inclination. Got out and walked a bit, too.

Good morning! Yesterday turned out to be a very good Monday--bright sunshine, good day at work, good workout and nutrition--no mindless snacking after dinner. I like Lori's idea of counting the number of days she hasn't binged. It's a response to stress and an old "pre-goal" habit that I had overcome to get to goal. I am making the elimination of that habit my priority. One day down.

Only 6 hrs of sleep last night, but I feel rested and need to pay a few bills before I'm off to the gym for 30 min treadmill incline, speed work and 60 min pilates. Another beautiful forecast so maybe I can get in a walk at lunch. I hope this nice weather makes it out to beantown for you, and that life returns to "normal" for those hit by the snowstorm. Also thinking of those waiting for test results and preparing for surgery and wishing you the very best outcomes and praying for wisdom for your medical advisers.

Hope Tuesday is a great day for all my team mates!
