happy birthday, peri! sounds like you are ready to get right back on track.

it's my last evening in new york (and i will probably start the morning thread "tomorrow" when i get up to work swedish time). i gave up on trying to track food, have concentrated on portion size. still managed to get my miles in - ran 5 miles yesterday, and today my brother and i started walking in sunshine. we managed to get about 6 miles from home when the skies opened and it started pouring. took the subway and bus back to my dad's house. when we told my dad that we had almost reached the building where my brother was born (and where my mom and dad lived when they were first married), he wanted to drive to see it. so we took him there and of course it was very different from what he remembered, crowded, international, people everywhere. still, we found a parking place right by the house and he got to walk in the front door and be nostalgic.

hard to believe tomorrow is october - i will get up to work, then fly back to seattle, and drive over the mountains home to winthrop. long day ahead!

Happy Birthday Peri! That's a milestone birthday to be celebrated.

LOGOULD: Congrats on the 5K. Nice of you to stay for the awards. Just keep it up. By the time you're in my age group people are surprised you're still around. Fewer competitors too!

DH & I had a nice afternoon at a concert of our local Symphony Orchestra. Then he suggested we go to Golden Corral for dinner. I said no. I already had dinner planned at home. He's still kind of moping, but I probably saved an extra 1000 calories if not more, calories that neither of us needed.

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.

Having the same kind of weather here as you're having, CATMAGNET. I put apple cinnamon oatmeal in the crockpot last night. Woke up to an amazing smell, but a not so yummy oatmeal.. must've screwed something up, will try again. Bf and I hiked Kennesaw Mtn this morning. We got a great workout, and I was reminded why I love him so much. We were on our way up and he spotted a teenage girl with Downs having trouble negotioting the rocky jagged part of the trail. He immediately asked her if she wanted a hand and she said yes, and the mom was so touched she took a picture of him helping her.

Awwwwww... emoticon

Worked late last night (after a 4 hour meeting yesterday morning). Left the house at 7AM and didn't get back home until 10:30 last night. Long day! I didn't think I would have any problem sleeping, but even after all this time, still had the pre-race jitters. Got up at 5AM to get ready for my 5K and my friends picked me up at 6:40. Did the race and stayed around to watch the kids run and the awards get presented. Not that there is much of a chance for me to ever win one, but, if I ever did, I would want for people to be there cheering for me.

After the event, the three of us headed off to church and to wish other church family members good luck in their Chicago marathon next weekend.

Decided to sign up for two more events....a 5K and a 10K in Oct with the same two running buddies. Must be the new shoes inspiring me.

Now, to get a little grocery shopping done and then get ready for this next week. It's going to be a busy one!

8:30 ... Of course, I didn't get done everything I would have like to, but it is a decent hour, I'm almost ready to hit the sack (with about 1/2 hr to read beforehand) and the week is mostly prepped. Have three meals and snacks ready for the week. Only have to make sandwiches for my ladies group tomorrow night. Even got an extra load of laundry done. Nutrition was about as good as it gets - all in all - an AWESOME day - need more days like this one!

My eating is fine but my motivation to exercise has been wavering this weekend. I decided I was too ornery to let the latest plateau and whatever my mood issue is stop me though. It was touch and go this morning, but I got both the neighborhood walk and long beach walk in today. It is a beautiful, windy day here in Michigan and I am glad I got a few hours out in the sun today.

It's a cruddy day here in Memphis. Rainy, cool and grey, so I've had a lazy Sunday. However, since my team has a bye week, I know I have NO excuse to not go to the gym, so planning to go swimming after lunch. Sometimes it's hard to drag my shrinking butt there, but I know I always feel better after I exercise.

I also had a low calorie day yesterday, since I was either exercising or sleeping most of the day (finally on even keel with my sleep, I think!), so I'm eating a little more today.

Happy late birthday, Perri. emoticon

I guess I get to learn balance right out of the gate. Hit goal weight this week same time dd was in icu (she is now out and there is a long new road in front of her and our family). I can't focus on maintaining and caretaking at the same time and obviously caretaking comes first. Past pattern has been to just totally put my health last...and that hasn't worked so well. But what I eat, exercise, tracking, etc. cannot take much time. So now onto balance...maintaining my health while caring for someone else. Guess that is the goal anyways, right? To live healthy while living real life.

Have had a good month. Lost 3.5 pounds over the last 3 weeks. Nice to feel like things are going well in that department. It's like I've come through 7 months of maintenance that turned out to be a plateau. I'm not sure what to make of it. I haven't really changed calorie intake or calories burned. This all happened in spite of a vacation. I was sick for a little with bronchitis, but my fewer calories in and fewer calories burned evened out.

I hoped to lose a little for the upcoming holiday season. Just for a cushion. I guess my goal is in sight.

Sounds like a lot of us are in the same "working off the indulgence" boat. Isn't it funny how yucky you can feel after a day or two of eating badly? And to think, I used to eat like that all day, every day!! Now I feel fat and gross, just from eating that way, even though realistically my body hasn't changed. Really goes to show you that maintenance is about the habits and being healthy--and thus feeling better!

Hi everyone! After making it through a challenging week having done pretty well, I had a bit of a "lost weekend" with way too much food and wine and not nearly enough exercise. Tomorrow's a new day and I've already got my plan in place to get back on track. I'm dedicating October and the first part of November to slowly working my way down to the lower end of my range to preempt some of the inevitable holiday overindulgence. I figure since I'm only talking about a few pounds and more than six weeks, I'll only need to make subtle changes to my current plan. Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

Well, that was a Saturday! I started well but ended badly. Had a reasonable breakfast, took the cat to the vet (he's doing well) and then our Fun Day began. We made a long anticipated trip to the Root Beer Store. We bought many diet varieties but got some sugared ones too. Then a big burger and split order of onion rings for lunch, then to the Cinerama for a movie (The Master) where they have....CHOCOLATE POPCORN! emoticon It's sort of like caramel corn or kettle corn, but chocolate flavored. My husband ordered a medium bag and agreed later that a small would have been more prudent. We took most of it home. That evening we split a bottle of cane sugar sweetened cream soda. When I said, "I want something not sweet." My beloved broke out one ounce bags of Doritos. Then we finished off the popcorn. I'm sure I've had more sugar at a go in recent memory, but not to the exclusion of other food. Went to bed feeling queasy.
I'm singing with the choir for church this morning. Husband went for early golf and then will check on his parents. He is resigned to the fact that it's going to be one crisis after another from here on to the end. I hope to do some real cooking this afternoon for work lunches, but we'll see how things go.

You said it all, Peri: "It feels so much better to be healthy and fit than fat, gluttonous and blahhhh."

This team just influenced me to do a little more protein and less carbs, but this made me exceed my new calorie limit yesterday. Sigh. I ate well though.

Can you believe it's the last day of September? Wow, the summer really flew by! I'm back from vacation without any weight gain, and ready to get some gym time in this week.

with your plan for today, you will be on track Peri

Hi everyone,

The munchkin spent the night and she won't go home until about 1:00 today. We will go to the park this morning.

After she leaves, I need to get all the stuff that accumulates around so that the cleaning crew can actually clean tomorrow. Plus gather up my work stuff

Have a healthy day by making good choices that won't lead to regret

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

Don't make todays choices be tomorrows regret

Excited to be the one to start this thread! After a crazy blow-out birthday celebration last night in which much wine was drunk, many cheetos and brownies were eaten, and much ice cream was slurped, I felt appropriately ill, bloated and chagrined last night. Luckily, turning 40 only comes around once!

Thanks for the encouragement from yesterday everyone. It helped put today's two pound gain in perspective. Planning on getting all the crap out of the house today, running 6 miles and weight lifting. Then I'm hoping I'l feel back on track. Key is not to let one event turn into a erosion of my good habits. Already started off with a healthy breakfast. It feels so much better to be healthy and fit than fat, gluttonous and blahhhh. I guess it took an evening like last night to really help me remember that!

Have a great day, everyone ~
